I always use the Samsung Smart Camera app on my phone or tablet, it works amazing because you can see the image and even control zoom all through the app that connects through a Direct WiFi connection.

Thanks! Does it connect through means other than WiFi? Bluetooth perhaps?

I don't believe so, I have never had any issues though using the app. It is very easy to set up and use, you just start the Wi-Fi saring mode on the camera and then you connect to the hotspot that is created by the camera with your phone, once connected you should be able to connect the app to the camera.

If you don't want to use the Remote Viewfinder in the camera (to complement the Samsung Remote Viewfinder app on another device) search "Camera Remote" in the Google play store. There are several that you can install to use on another device for control of the camera. Though, Samsung's Remote Viewfinder is quiet good.

[Q] How in the world do I do video calling on this thing?

I admit it. I'm an idiot. I sold my Nook Color and bought the wi-fi Tab because I wanted a front facing camera. I got it, set it up, rooted it, tweaked the build.prop file so the icons aren't so freaking huge, added Zeam, and installed the apps I wanted/needed.
So, I'm all good to go now I think except for video calling. This I can't get to work. I need to do video calling from the Tab to a PC and possibly to an iOS device as well. The Tab to PC is what is critical though. I can't find oovoo in the market, but I found an APK posted here and tried it out. It didn't work. It used my rear facing camera instead of my front facing camera and video from the Tab never made it to the PC I was calling. I checked and the tick box is checked to use the front facing camera. No matter what I check, it goes to rear facing though. Plus, Oovoo never picked up my BT headset as a microphone. (Tested the headset with google voice search and confirmed it was working later.) Qik is pre-installed on the Tab, but when I click it I get a message that says, "service coming soon." I don't think that lets me call PCs anyway. Yahoo Messenger has been suggested to me, but I don't see it in the market for my device. Any ideas?
Oovoo seems to work for everybody on here
Maybe your Res is to low I know below 182 the camera forcloses try putting it above 182
I changed my build.prop back to 240 just to test if that was the problem. It made no difference so I set it back to 190. My phone and my Tab are on the same wifi network. I have no camera on my computer, but I don't see that as causing the problem. When I call my computer, or vice versa, this is what happens. On my Tab, I see a blank avatar for my computer caller. This is to be expected of course. On the upper left of the screen, I see an image of what my rear facing camera is seeing. This appears whether I check the box for front or rear facing camera. Doesn't matter, I still see the rear facing camera. On my computer I see a completely black screen on the left and a blank avatar on the right. The video from the Tab never ever gets to the computer. The BT headset I'm using doesn't get picked up as an audio source. I here just noise over my computer speakers. When I mute the microphone on my Tab, the noise on the computer speakers goes away so I know this is the problem with the audio.
Edit: Are there any apps I can use just to confirm the front facing camera is working?
A. Nonymous, i see you downloaded the oovoo.apk from here, is it the new mobile version that was released Wed. 27th April ?

No idea. I'm looking at it now, where do I need to go in the app to look?
You must be in a different country then the USA. I tried everything you complained about and everything works. GST Sprint 3g
I'm in the US and I'm using the wifi Tab.
To test the front facing camera, you can simply turn on the camera and then set it to self portrait... There's a white blob in the top left corner when you hold the tab wide ways. Clicking on it will give you camera options - including self portrait.
Sometimes the camera gets stuck and I find that you need to clear soom Ram...
Hope this helps

Yes. That is a huge help. Let's me confirm that the front facing camera is indeed working. So to summarize:
Rear camera works.
Front camera works.
ooVoo can't be found in the market and sideloaded APK doesn't work. Doesn't recognize my BT headset for audio. Doesn't recognize the front facing camera for video. I don't know what version of the app it is.
Yahoo Messenger can't be found in the market.
Any other ideas to do video calling from the Tab to a PC?

Thanks for the APK. When I run it, I get the message "Sorry, your device is not supported yet." But their website says it is. I guess I'm left to contact their tech support.

Kik - Doesn't seem to support video chat
qik - Can't call computers.
oovoo - Doesn't work as documented earlier
tango - Can't call computers, just other mobile devices.

I sideloaded Yahoo Messenger (loaded it to my phone, backed it up, restored on my Tab). It doesn't pick up audio either. This may be because I'm in so close proximity to the computer I'm calling. I may simply be picking up feedback from my computer's microphone. It also picked up the video from my rear facing camera and not the front facing one. I couldn't find any settings to change that.
received the same message on my Verizon SGT-I800
"Sorry, your device is not supported yet."
Tango works for me as I have 3g, but I'm trying to get this to work on my step fathers I800, it's a Verizon tab but doesn't have 3g service. Was hoping WiFi video calling would work! Ugh...
I think if I was doing calling to another Android device or another iOS device, things like Qik (sideloaded probably) or Tango might work. You'd think they would have some program pre-loaded on the Tab that would do video calling. I can't believe they don't.
If it helps anyone, I contacted ooVoo tech support and got the following response, "Thanks for the info. Currently this model -Galaxy Tab GT-P1010 is not on our supported list of units and I'll escalate to engineering to research and get it added to the list."
install skype and qik which is from skype and you have a perfect working video chat application which I use to see my grandchilds in philipinnes from the netherlands in almost perfect video quality

Hi. I have a new SGT (wifi & cellphone) which I bought in Australia & using in Philippines. I am using both YSM & ooVoo successfully. YSM only uses rear camera. ooVoo uses rear & front. I set ooVoo to front camera in settings but first few times I ran the app, it used rear camera! This confused me for a while but after manually switching to front camera (you touch the screen over camera image) it stayed using front camera. Manually switching back to rear camera again usually results in the avatar you mention for the PC viewer... only occasionally does the rear camera actually work and then it's in the wrong orientation for the person you are talking to on PC. Strangely, rotating the SGT does not rotate the image on the PC! It must be using the motion sensor to "correct" orientation. I'm also using SGT & PC on same network.
One more thing that may be of significance is that sometimes when I've viewed an AVI video (can't tell you if encoding format matters) both the cameras stop working. The "viewfinder" only shows a corrupted image of the last frame of the video that I viewed?! The only thing I can do is power off/on to fix this.
I hope this info helps & doesn't add to your confusion! By the way, every time I start ooVoo it tells me my device (SGT-P1000T) is not supported, so it's no surprise that there are a couple of glitches but it works pretty well.

I just picked up my tab today.......US here.....tried fring firstand that works fine......just a fyi....
Does Oovoo allow Oovoo to PC (skype) connections by chance?
- is there an application that allows for tab - skype or tab to google video chat connectivity as well?
I'll try out these options, just curious, thank you,

Everything I've read about Skype says they don't support the front facing camera on the Galaxy Tab. You're saying this is incorrect? Qik doesn't let you call computers.

Using TAB as vehicle DVR and Reverse cam

I am wondering if I might be able to interface the tablet with a camera, be it using the composite input, USB or Bluetooth, and then recording it to the SD.
Would make a great reverse camera display to. Perhaps used for both forward facing DVR and reverse camera selection/split screen.
Any known hardware and apps that would allow this?
Or is there another ~7" tablet that has better inputs to suit this application?

Is it possible to video call, using the gears camera?

Is it possible to make a video call (tango, skype, etc) and stream from the camera on your wrist ?
I would think it's possible, but would a bit awkward with current position of the camera. Gear2 might have a camera on the face.
You can. Requires Bluetooth tethering. Skype smashes the battery and doesn't behave particularly well. The problem with camera apps not designed for gear is that the default screen is turned 90degrees. Native Gear apps have this accounted for

Wonder if the Xposed module App Settings will display the camera correctly in portrait if you force the app to always portrait mode.... ? Seems to do the trick for other apps that default to lanscape mode. i.e. Netflix, games , etc...

I haven't tried. Would assume it would just stay at 90' to the natural direction of the app

Yeah, it may just work. Netflix for example, launches in portrait mode, then when you start playing a movie the screen rotates 90' to landscape. When you use App Settings and force portrait mode, it keeps the screen from rotating when you start playing a movie and displays it the correct way.

Ah.. that's a bummer then.
Would the battery last 2 hours of continuous streaming, without burning your wrist?
I made a Skype call on my watch. i needed the Bluetooth tethering of course. The other person could see everything my camera saw on the watch and also could hear the audio.
Yep. I did a Google Video Hangout the other day at Disneyland while on the roller coaster. They saw the whole thing and were mighty impressed with the video quality.

[2016.10.22] DSLR Controller *AFMA* v0.11 ALPHA

DSLR Controller AFMA is an app made to assist Auto-Focus Micro-Adjustment calibration of your lenses on your Canon EOS bodies, based on the moiré method.
It is based on the code for DSLR Controller (XDA thread) and as such runs on the same devices and has the same connection capabilities. It can be download from Google Play. Of course, your camera must support Auto-Focus Micro-Adjustment for this to be useful at all.
It is currently in alpha stage. I'm releasing it in the currect state because I will be out of the country for a while, and I won't be able to finish it up further before I go. The manual seems long and daunting, but once you've used it once or twice, it really only takes a minute or so to set up.
You can play with it now for free. Fair warning, it wil probably transition to a (cheapish) paid product if it ends up being useful.
Read more in the quickly improvised manual which can be found on the DSLR Controller AFMA website.

Very nice idea!!!
But... I don't really get it.
Isn't the app supposed to alternatively focus using the AF module (which needs to be calibrated) and using LiveView?
When I start the calibration it quickly fully defocuses to nearest and to infinity and keeps doing something - but it does not focus using the AF module (or quick AF)...
Where am I missing the point?
Cheers
Make sure you AF-ON and shutter buttons are set to AF.

problem with 7d mark2
Set up app with target on my laptop. Using galaxy s3 and android 4.4.2 the app crashed before completion due to a communication error and the camera locked requiring a battery pull. The message on the camera display was err 80.
Not really sure what is going on, but I've been having issues with the 7DII as well. This is a very low priority project for me though, so I have no idea when I'll get around to fixing it.
7D Mk2 with Galaxy S5 under lollipop.
App starts, DSLR switches to remote controled mode, The appdoesn't recognise spot metering, I switch to center. Then the app show the mandaoty dialog but "Start AFMA test" stays gray.
Same problem if starting with center metering (appart that the app doesn(t complain about it anymore).
Is there any debug log or test I can do ?
I have the full paid DSLR controller if that is any help. I quickly tried to shoot a few test shots with DSLR controller and it works.
Cool app. It works with my Verizon LG G2 and 7D (mark 1).
Where can I download the targets to display on a computer screen? My phone's screen is too small to be a target at 30 feet.
I too have the DSLR Controller app and it is pretty fun as well.
overclockxp, you can connect to the URL displayed by AFMA on you G2 from you computer. The web-page will display the necessary target.

Did you have to do anything special to get it to work with the 7D? I can connect to standard DSLR Controller just fine on a Droid Maxx and a nexus 7 but AFMA refuses to recognize the camera.
EOS 5D Mk3 / HTC One M9
I have DSLR Controller working between these two devices (1) over a Lindy USB OTG cable and (2) over Wifi using a flashed MR3040. But the AFMA app does not find the camera over either connection method (not sure whether it is supposed to work over Wifi anyway). Am I missing something or should the AFMA app also work when using exactly the same connection cable and camera setup as the main DLSR Controller app does ?
Seems Good > ThankZ
Feature request / suggestion
Hi again. (Got this App working over Wifi finally but still not when using a direct connection, although the main DSLR Controller still runs fine both ways - see my earlier post; any reasons why AFMA might not work on the same cables as the main App does ?)
That aside, when testing zoom lenses it would be useful to have the focal length set for each test recorded into the saved report. (This data is recorded into the EXIF for images, so is presumably available in camera to the App but it isn't currently reported.) I've just run pairs of 4x tests on each end of 3 different zoom lens and so have 12 reports to collate. Differentiating between the various lenses' reports is easy with the report titles but the different focal lengths' reports can easily get confused for a given lens.
Hi, there!
v0.12 + canon 7dm2 fw1.1.0 + galaxy s5
it is hard to connect, it search for device, but it do not connects.
only 1 from like 20 attempts. I managed to really conect (get "online") just 3 times at all...
Then, after starting AFMA it focus, then defocus, then calculate and suddenly camera get Err 80 and that´s it.
Any help, please?
EDIT: The same setup but with Lenovo k920 = Communication Error on the phone, Err 80 on camera.
I do not believe it is working at all.
Unfortunately.

Need help with disabling shutter sound

Hello all,
Can someone point me on how to disable annoying shutter sound for camera? Tried deleting the shutter.ogg file, but no success. I'm on Dr. Ketan ROM and in ROM control, there is Screenshot sound off, tried that, but no success either.
Note 9 has different CSC partition and I can't activate cscfeatures.
Please.
I have no root to use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dc7.SilentModeToggle
Works o both Note 8 and 9 fine
Another work around is put the phone on silent, then open the camera app and voila.

Depends on the region/country. For most (like my AT&T version and your Verizon), it is in the camera settings at the bottom. But there are some countries (I believe Japan was the 1st) that does not allow the shutter sound to be disabled.
I have dr. Ketan ROM and there is no Shutter Sound in camera app. Is there a way but not with system sound off, I need notifications?
I would like not to try any app because an app installs a service and I do not want to.
Not an option for me, US Cellular

I don't use system sounds. I prefer my device to be as silent as possible. If I want to hear fake computer noises I can watch a movie.

I just use the Macrodroid app, I set it up that when I launch the camera it's turns off the system sound and then when I exit the camera it turn the system sound back on.
You can get it in the Play Store, just click above on Macrodroid.

Routines (part of GoodLock) or Tasker does the job for me. Switching mute<->sounds if camera is running. Routines has some bug and sometimes lowers ringtone volume to 1 (min. volume) so there's a risk of not hearing phone calls. I stopped using Routines and went back to Tasker where I already have several other tasks.
Routines are still good for maintaining some Samsung specific tasks (playing with blue light filter, power saver, and some automatizations).
