Hi all
I'm new to android and am having some major issues with my Sony New xperia z.
First off stamina mode is simply not working. It did to start but it's now not changing the expected battery life when toggled on and off. That's just the start though.
Battery life had been absolutely terrible. I have been deliberately stopping myself from using the handset just so I can make it through the day.
I have come from an iPhone 4 and am quite a heavy user normally, my battery always lasted well beyond one day. New I know the screen and processor on this are awesome but I'm literally not going to be able to use any apps or anything if this is the true battery life.:crying:
I noticed that android os was taking the majority of my battery for just if today, screen has since taken over since I got in because I've been searching the net for potential answers.
Android services is up there as well. I installed a battery checker to see if my phone is but going into deep sleep for some reason and found that there had been something like 3000 wakelocks since last charge (unplugged this morning). I'm now down to 3% after about 13.5 hours since unplugged.
Screenshot was from before I started writing this post.
Any help please. If this isn't some sort of bug/fixable errorI might have to see about returning this phone!
Is this amount of wake locks normal? How can I tell what's stopping my phone from sleeping? I'm new to android other than my nexus 7 which had always been amazing in terms of battery.
Thanks all
John

Thanks.
Factory reset once and fixed the stamina mode issue temporarily but nothing else and stamina issue came back within a few hours. Uh oh battery now 1%
Not wanting to have to reinstall all apps again forma second time. Any other tips? Any way to check what's keeping it from sleeping?
Are you using gsam battery app??
It has all the battery info needed.
Try not to use stamina mode.

I have downloaded gsam - its how I knew there were over 3000 wakelocks but to be honest I've found it all a bit baffling. I'm pretty sure something's happening in the background when it shouldn't be but its like trying to find a needle in a haystack - I'm not sure what processes are what, and what parts of the system should be doing certain things anyway... Does that make sense?
Its dead now, so using my nexus 7 instead. I'll charge tonight, use as normal and monitor it tomorrow. Is there anything I could post from gsam up here that you genius's could help me out with? I bow to your mightier wisdom and plead for help!!! I love my new handset but this is leaving a real sour taste and my excitement and joy of leaving iOS behind me is waning!
Should I use it without stamina mode tomorrow and see if that improved things? Or should I use it as I did today?!
Thanks again everyone for your help.
Maybe you can upload app usage screen and kernel wakelocks.
Reboot ur phone 2 3 times ant Try it tomorrow without stamina mode

Hi,
Software and stuff:
JellyMod 4.0
CoCore 5.1
CRT off
4cyl Turbo 0.31
Lately I've been noticing that my battery has been draining like crazy, especially when the screen is off. I turned off wifi and put on airplane mode just to see if it was them causing it, but since 9:00am at 100% it's now 21:00pm and it's down to 58% after 0 hours of use...
Obviously something is wrong but I don't know what
Battery usage is 41% Android OS, 27%Android system, device idle 15% and some other 2-3% things
Please Help,
William
Try removing the 4cyl turbo script. Caused high battery usage to more users.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda app-developers app
Ok I'll give that a go and tell you how it goes.
Edit:I installed the script and tried the others but nothing seemed to give me better results. At night with the same settings and no 4cyl I only lost 5%... Is there any way of getting this device to get better battery life. Google searches always give me results of stuff I already did...
Thanks,
William

Hey man, did you remove the 4cyl turbo script using the uninstall zip in the op? If so, has it been completely removed? Because after using that uninstall file, when I check in terminal emulator, it shows that the file is still there...

Try to install wakelock detector and see which app that acts like a child and won't sleep throughout your phone usage. The install greenify to auto hibernate that app(s) or just freeze it with romtoolbox / titanium
Hi,
I was so satisfied with how good battery lasts till JB update came. Before that I would rarely charge before night but now I have to do it every night I am sort of light to average user. My main concern brought this stats you can see screen shot where android system uses most of the battery. What is going onhhere? I have a few apps that using but not much changed in my habits. I am with 3UK

Did you do a full wipe after the update?
Yes I did. All from the scratch. I just red that one htc one owner had similar issue and his fast boot option was off he enabled it and things got way better. so was mine off just enabled it.
Why is everyone so surprised at Android System being at the top of the new battery stats?
It makes sense really. If you don't use your phone a lot, and nothing else is running taking up power, the system is going to be at the top...
As far as an actual drop in battery life, I'd download GSM battery monitor or Better Battery Stats and check for wakelocks.

Yeah I agree, especially if you reset your battery monitoring often, it can be highly confusing and misleading to read battery usage stats. I use Du Battery Monitor which I've been happy with.
I have wakelock detector installed. And also noticed android system wakelocks on cpu wakelocks are high on the high. Higher than anything else. And this happend in the first half an hour I am on the phone. First screenshot is cpu wakelock and second is wakelock triggers.
What would you guys advice to monitor for battery usage : over what time period and what to pay attention most. My wake lock detector is on now and I will do more screenshots tonight.

Well at least your phone is going into deep sleep and doesn't look like any rogue app. You may want to Greenify facebook though.
Also look here for a battery "calibration", some say it worked for them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43579577&postcount=36105
And don't forget you need to let your battery "settle" which takes a couple of days.

How would you advice to tackle FB. It looks FB is persistent though on battery guru it's set to refresh it self ,,only when you open it,,
I will do factory reset again and then battery calibration later.

Are your network location services on or off? If they are on, try turning them all off (as well as any Google Now network location service stuff). I found that sometimes the Google services updated badly and went into a situation where the battery would drain rapidly due to constant wakelocks.

I...don't think 16 hours is terrible considering that you seem to have been doing some Youtube and PDF-reading. The percentage on that PDF viewer seems pretty high but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Facebook is obviously the biggest culprit remaining.
I would try to use Facebook in your browser instead of the app. I'm not a heavy Facebook user and don't need the notifications. It gave me a big battery boost after deinstalling the app. Facebook is constantly syncing and tracking your location, it's very batterie unfriendly

I have thought the same today to have FB on browser rather than app. It is strange I have tweaked FB app a lot like refresh only 4 hours, no notifications left on but app still awakening mad. Now only FB bothers me other apps behave well and I get pretty good battery consumption.

I am using ARHD 21.0 and it's got 4.3 in it. Android system reports it's taking up like 50 Percent of my battery but I still get more time out of my phone than I did when I was on 4.2.2.

I'm digging in to this also. The Android OS process(?) wasn't on top of the list, now it is for 3-4 hours a day. Try to find what causes it. Fortunately the battery life isn't affected by much.

I'm getting this also.
I've done some digging around and found out that the Kernel has some long wake locks.
Namely :
bam_dmux_wakelock
msm_serial_hs_dma
msm_serial_hs_rx
I've never had these wakelocks before and they are popping up out of nowhere. My phone's battery was great when I first got the phone, but now its not as good anymore due to the phone not deep sleeping as much.

For those that are curious, install betterbatterystats from the playstore and you can see what is causing your phone to not go to deepsleep.
Same here, I already did a full wipe still happening, and I feel its affecting my battery. Going to give this a couple of days doing some different tests to see if I can nail out the issue.

Still don't know what causes it. The problem started right around when I configured lookout, so I uninstalled. I also disabled locations on any possible app but still no go.
Then got pissed, reinstalled lookout, enable location and stuff, pretty much everything stock, now the problem went away. No more android os on top, battery life is back. Don't know what to think of it, I'd like to know what exactly caused it.

having the same issue....
Didn't plug phone in over night (was at 100% when I went to sleep), woke up with it at 70%. That's a HUGE drain from Android OS.
Weird thing. I've played with the wifi settings, switched from dhcp to static ip and it disabled the connection due to slow conn mesage that appeared, although I was right next to the router. Anyways, I reverted back to automatic dhcp then just a thought to go back to processes and this is what I've found: android os for over 15 hours although i plugged the phone from charger about 5 hours ago...

Try removing the Samsung WatchOn app and disabling/deleting/freeze the system apk for it. I believe it's called "peel.apk"
It randomly goes crazy for me too. I just disabled the watch on app and the browser bar. Hopefully this helps as it constantly runs eating memory when I don't even use it
Android OS battery drain!
Hey Y'all,
So I've been having some really bad battery drain issues involving Android OS on my new Note 3. I've been looking around for days trying to find the culprit and stumbled upon this:
(SORRY, it's not letting me post the link I don't have enough posts so I'll change HTTP for hteeteep, mods I apologize but I can't easily summarize the processes and explanations offered on this page.)
hteeteep://gs3.wonderhowto.com/how-to/reduce-battery-drain-your-samsung-galaxy-s3-by-fixing-android-system-usage-0142361/
It has to do with gsiff_daemon a non-utilized but highly active GPS sensor daemon. I followed the instructions posted there and renamed the file. After that Android OS went back to normal % of CPU usage. When you look at CPU usage under developer option you can see that gsiff_daemon is constantly using resources. Since I disabled it my battery life has improved dramatically and I have yet to notice any "side effects". The phone works perfectly and all other apps are working properly. I think between this fix and staying away from "Enable location over Wi-Fi " should help most people with battery drain issues. I hope this helps!
I noticed the same issue since Sunday. Android OS is always under screen. I'm rooted and have freezed Knox related items in TiBU.

Okay so I was wondering, if you have more modules, does it slow down your phone? I am using about 5 modules and I was wondering if it slows down the phone at all. Also, what does the greenify module do? And is wanam better or gravity box? Thanks.

Check the Lag Fix thread in the general section for the lag fix.
Greenify helps extend your battery life and it does a great job of it too.
Try them both, that's really up to you.
Okay so I am using greenify app right now but what does the module do?

Root mode is set and forget. Install from the app store and Xposed will notify you the module needs to be activated. Do so, reboot, and all should be well.
