Go to the root kitkat thread. Or the firmware thread. Grab the Odin files for the 4.3 ota. Flash all of them except the bootloader tar. Then just wait. Don't pull battery or anything else.if you see the at&t logo keep waiting. When it fully boots, continue with kitkat upgrade and root. Be sure to grab my upgraded kk Ota from the last few pages of the kk root thread . Also make sure to look at my backup process so you'll be able to make and use backups. Oh and thank the other 43 people for not even bothering to help. I'll check back and see how things see going.

will let you know how the rest goes
Thank you so much

ok on 442 now
how do i flash your 442 update
and any clue why i cant flash the 442 carbon rom
and again thank you so much
as i just got this phone yesterday and couldnt believe i almost bricked it
as ive been modding phones since the original razr came out and never even came close to
what happened with this phone

Just flash it in safestrap as the KK update. Read the root kitkat thread again if you need a refresher on anything. Make sure you do not wipe cache/dalvik when installing the zip. Just reboot recovery and install the zip.As for the custom rom I would say because of locked bootloader. This is my first galaxy,I'm an HTC guy normally. Now that I think about it. Once your on KK safestrap cant mount the system.I found a work around using the pawned kernel, that is also in my backup thread.

Follow the exact steps I laid out above. If you went step by step following my instructions, then following the root instructions everything should be fine. Once you get 4.4 back up dont play around with it until you make a backup.

ok i am trying to sideload my ota update on my att s4 active sgh-i357. It had problem with digitizer not working. So i reset it a few times. Now it stuck in reboot loop, or it freezes on the battery. Not even the att symbol. I try to restore in recovery but it reboots out of recovery as well. I read this is a softbrick but im lost on what i should do next. I have tried several different things. But nothing will get past this point

[Q] Seems like I have the first bricked note 3

So I was messing with the system permissions in Es file exolorer, when I accidently set everyrhing to 666. As soon as I hit back I knew I was done for. I started getting foce closes on everything. I reset the phone hoping I could factory reset and be ok; but it keeps looping back to recovery when I turn it on. Im not home/in front a computer right now....but it seems my only hope is odin with the root files. I havent been able to find a stock rom for this phone. Att sucks for locking the bootloader. I will be donating to the bounty when I get in the house.
Anyone have any suggestions or know where a stock rom is oosted?

go to root de la vega site, and download the root. there is an odin image there to restore you to stock. you are ok.
thanks
Thanks a lot. Finally home will try right now

Ok so the root de la vega seems to have been taken down since there is a new method. And I cant find the firmware for our phones,
What will happen if I try to load a tmobile firmware to the phone?
At this point I think I have a brick and might try it.

Bricked
Well, I've done it too, but mine brick is probably worse. I updated with OTA update, then attempted to root so I tried flashing the Odin inside the Vega package, just to find out the OTA patched the "holes", now I'm stuck at the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
So I tried the One Click from the Vega package, but it doesn't do it, it fails with write protect error.
Kies don't have emergency recovery either, and won't even recognize the device.
I'm thinking I have to wait for the actual updated one click comes out to fix it.
Please be warned, DON'T try it

There are quite a few of us in that situation. There are a number of people working on it. Hopefully something will come up soon. I wish AT&T would actually release official firmware for our phone through Kies. Would make the recovery process so much faster than having to wait for people to rip MJ5 and re-package it.
i get a black screen....Help
i went ahead and rooted with kingo and deleted some stuff in the system/app folder and now after reboot i get com.google.process.gapps, dropbox, setup wizard and chaton [ unfortunately process has stop ] and it goes into a reboot loop, i can stop the reboot loop when i reroot with kingo but then all i get is a black screen with no apps, launcher, no access to any applications other than the systems settings. Hard Brick .... PLEASE help, I've tried everything

So, I've tried literally every video, or walkthrough I could find via youtube or this site and I am still stuck in a boot loop right now at the unlock custom screen.
I've tried using odin to go back to stock completely, i've tried the battery removal / wipe data etc option, I don't know what else to do here.
If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it. At this point I'm pretty desperate.
Which firmware version are you on? What were you doing when it bricked (flashing a ROM, rooting, etc)? Am I correct in assuming you're rooted because of the custom padlock icon?
Have you tried giving it a few minutes to boot up before pulling the battery? I thought my phone was bricked once, but all it needed was ~5 minutes to get going. Give it a good 10 minutes or so to boot up. If that doesn't work, report back with the information I requested and we'll go from there.

MJ5 ... flashing FireNote Rom
Problem I was having is I was using KnoxRaid Rom, well that rom is dead / thread locked so I figured I would try FireNote. When I rebooted to flash FireNote, I noticed Safestrap wasn't there anymore. I tried re-installing Safestrap a few times with no luck. After a factory wipe / reset, Safestrap magically re-appeared and was available for me to use. I figured what the hell, I'll flash FireNote. When I did, I noticed it was more or less a hodge-podge of the two Rom's and not a clean install. When I did the wipe again to re-install FireNote, I'm now stuck at the spash screen and have been since early this morning.
And yea, I've given it quite some time ... 10+ minutes, even an hour. Nothing.

I tried MJ5 restore. Maybe there's a different method I can try that you can point me to directly?
Were you on the Jellybean or KitKat version of Knoxraid? If you were on the KitKat version then the problem sounds like you tried to flash a JB ROM on top of a KK ROM without reverting back to JB first. Have you tried the MJ5 restore yet? I believe the thread is in the general section. I'll grab the link for you in a minute.

Maybe some of the files are corrupt. Try uninstalling Heimdall, the Microsoft plugins, delete everything you downloaded (Odin, the .tar files, etc), and redownload them and try again. On top of that, I would delete all of your USB drives and have Windows reinstall them or download them from Samsung's website. That way you will start nice and fresh and hopefully get out of this mess.

Oh, one more thing: have you tried different USB ports on your PC and/or different USB cables? In the past I've found that it's a must to use the USB cable that came with the phone for anything other than charging.

Yea, I've used different ports and only used the cable that came with it from the start.
Good. I'm betting it's a bad file or something didn't install properly that's causing your problem. I've used the MJ5 restore several times to get off of KitKat versions of Knoxraid with no problems, so I don't see why it shouldn't work for you.
Here's a tip: when you place the CSC file and the 28whatever file on your external SD card, rename them to "flash first" and "flash second" or something like that to avoid mixing them up. Renaming them won't hurt anything.

[Q] Newly Rooted LG G2, Tried Installing TWRP, Recovery not Working

Hi all,
I searched the forums and I'm not finding any information pertaining to my situation (or I'm getting bogged down and skipping over things that would pertain to my situation). I do apologize, but I've been searching for a few hours now and I can't figure this out.
I just rooted my phone this evening. I was following the directions on the cyanogenmod website and things got confusing when it started talking about Clockworkmod and TWRP. Installed clockwork and rebooted into recovery and couldn't figure out how to flash. So I started looking at youtube vids and I saw people using TWRP. So I downloaded it from the play store and that's when things took a turn for the worse.
I opened up the app, I went to Install TWRP, picked my g2vzw and started Install Recovery. The app started downloading the open recovery file and then I got a popup saying "WARNING Ensure the partition listed below is the correct one for your device...etc. and at the bottom it had "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery". I didn't know how to verify and I figured it was right (my idiot mistake), so I hit yes.
After I did that, I looked at clockwork again and saw an option to Install ROM from SD Card. When I hit that, I saw all the directories on my phone, so I figured I could dump the cyanogenmod zip file onto my phone via Android File Transfer and go back into Clockwork and flash the file.
So when I did that the phone rebooted and I got the white text at the top of my screen with Secure Booting Error and then the phone shuts off and I have to press and hold the power button a good while until the phone boots back up.
So is happening as a result of what I did using TWRP? Is there anything I can do to fix this? I would really like to experience different ROMs. I hope all is not lost.
Like I said, I'm using a Mac and I haven't used Terminal in a while. The only reason I was able to root was because the root folder I downloaded had an executable for Terminal that did everything for me.
Thanks in advance for your help!
i did the same i attempted to use ez unlock to unlock bootloader and just twrp manager to flash twrp. after trying to reboot i get no text no logo just a black screen and when holding the buttons it vibrates with an occasional red light can turn on and off just a black screen though shows in pc as bulk drive....on windows.....please help i only had the thing for a couple hrs.

It worked!!! You are the man!!! Now that I have the phone back to normal and Windows up and running, I would very much like to root and install cyanogenmod the Right way, especially the boot loader part, having to do with the loki master (that I didn't do the first time around), would happen to know a good thread that will help me?
Again, thank you so much. I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to fix this. The TOT method was awesome.

Ya, bro, this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51826092
The OP has a link for ioroot25 (which is the best way to root) and the freedom tool installs twrp. The steps are fairly straightforward but if you have questions, let me know! These are both for kitkat (so if you haven't, update) and you don't even have to worry about the bootloader. Updating to kk also erases some steps if you go the cm route. Also, do not use the "official" cm. It uses 4.2.2 base (crappy builds). Use JackpotCalvin's CM11, from what I've read it's top-notch.
Make sure you have ALL drivers for the phone installed before you start (including the adb drivers and debugging).
Glad you got it fixed, like I said, don't hesitate to ask if you have any doubts (easier to solve of you haven't done anything)!
As far as drivers, since I had to install them so that I could go back to stock, I should be good right?
ioroot25 is great, because it comes with "ioroot.tool" which is one click root for Macs.

Correct! Go to 24a ota freedom section. I've used it multiple times and never had an issue. It has the bat extension like ioroot25, just click and follow directions.
Autorec is another option (as mentioned) but I know nothing about it. As always, your choice!

Then my phone was automatically disconnected and then reconnected. Is that it? I figured the process would be longer.

Nevermind, it worked! I don't know what happened, maybe my USB Cable was loose or I didn't wait long enough, but I ran the program and waited and everything worked. I booted into recovery and Teamwin popped up (man we're really making progress!). So now I gotta get cyanogenmod. Should I just do a search for JackpotCalvin's, and once I find it how do I flash it?

Step 5 makes me nervous (seems like we've come so far, I hate to screw up now), and he saying this is off of Jelly Bean. I thought CM11 was based off of KitKat.
Once again, never mind I already did step 5 by doing KitKat Freedom. Looks like all I really have to do is download Jackpot's build, transfer it to my phone and install using TWRP.

My friend. Everything worked perfectly. I have Jackpot's build running and I got the Google Apps installed and running. Thank you so much for your help. That was quite an experience, I'm glad I had you leading every step of the way.

[Q] Can you help me get my Recovery Menu back and possibly Stock FW

Okay so to start I followed this Tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120 all the way through and my phone was rooted and I was happy. One day I tried to install TWRP since this is what I used on my Galaxy s3 before this phone. It got stuck on on a boot loop. I eventually tried flashing every stock ROM which did not fix the problem because ODIN would fail when trying to flash. Eventually I tried flashing the "G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel" supplied in the tutorial. My phone magically booted up and all my APPS and stuff was the same as I left it and it was still rooted. I decided not to mess with it anymore. This happened about a month ago.
Today, my phone had a notification saying that there was an update and I tapped remind me later. Eventually, I installed Titanium Back up to force closed the AT&T Software Update app the phone came with. Then. it automatically updated and eventually got stuck into the boot loop again. No problem, I fixed this before. What I noticed from the first time was that I had a screen that said "Secure Fail: Recovery. System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help" Once I flashed the stock kernel from the tutorial I never checked to see if the recover menu was there.
So right now I have my phone working and its rooted. I installed the "Phone Info" app and it says Bootloader Version:G900AUCU2ANG3. Eventually, my phone will try to update itself again and it will fail causing it to boot loop. I am not sure on what to do. Is there a way for me to have my recovery menu back? I just want to have the option in the future to revert everything back to normal in case I sell it or feel like having the newest OS. Also it would be cool to have a recovery menu on my phone again.
I know this was long but I needed to solve this problem before it gets out of hand in the future. Also I am pretty sure others have followed the tutorial and might have had the idea to update the OS or something else and had a problem similar to mine.
Thank You Very Much.

So you're still rooted?
And if so using titanium backup just freeze the ATT update app I forget what it's called exactly but you'll know it when you see it and that'll stop your device from trying to automatically trying to update

Yeah I'm still rooted and I found out about the freeze app option but do you know about the problem where I don't even have a recovery menu?

You need to download the safe strap recovery menu. That is for rooted phones with locked bootloaders.

Thank You very much I was able to install the Safe strap Recovery and am now backing it up. Hopefully my last question Is there a way to update in the future for example if I wanted to have the OTA firmwares from AT&T without root in case I were to sell the phone?
Thank you guys for the answers.

I've tried this in the past when my phone was stuck in bootloop, But it always failed since I have a different baseband or boatloader. Would you know which stock ROM I have to use because I tried many and had no luck in the past?

Wait, the thread is for Galaxy s5 Active. Will the G870AUCU1ANE4_Full_Odin.tar file work on my Galaxy s5 AT&T? Just making sure.

[Q] How do I 'unroot' and return to stock on a xt1095?

Even after a year on Android, I'm quite the novice, so please bear with me. So, I rooted my Moto X '14 using CF Autoroot because it was so easy. But, I had no idea how to unroot. So I googled some stuff and I attempted to flash back to total stock rooted rom and recovery. Foolishly, I picked the option to not wipe. So, when it rebooted, it went to the boot screen and crashed.
After trying everything, I realized I had no choice and did an external reset. So, hello 2014 because I'm back on KitKat but still was rooted. After looking around, I realized I can 'unroot' by pressing the option on SuperSU. But, I think all I did was revoke root access because on the bootloader, it still says modified.
I tried to go back to lolipop, but every time I take the OTA, the install crashes, but my phone works fine. So, what I wanna know is how I can go back to stock. Is it easy as flashing as flashing a 5.0 factory image? Or is there more I have to do?

Just flash system and the root will be gone. Also, if you have other mods like TWRP or different modem the OTA won't install, so in order to get the latest update just flash all the files
Good luck
