It's finally here lads, the official Sense 6 update. Rather surprising tbh, I expected the update to arrive at a later date but it's now here.
All I can say is that the update makes the phone bloody fast and responsive and all the apps that HTC can get hold of is totally redesigned and it looks absolutely beautiful. The update is neat and all but I found one rather annoying problem which is the lack of recent apps button to serve as a menu button. Previously, it gives me the option to do so, but now, the option is forgotten or I'm blind. Shame, as I frequently use the menu button.
Update: After a second minor update, HTC address the issue I was having with the recent apps button.
that's a shame about the menu button. How's the battery life? Is the location services battery drain bug fixed? Maybe they fixed it in 901e, not sure. For me, the first few cycles on KitKat had massive drain and constant awake, but now it seems about the same as 4.3.
901e still has no update, ridiculous that HTC would update international devices rather than their own country first. Took them a month to send out KitKat for 901e. Taiwanese users of the 3G version of the M7 are also raging as other M7s already have Sense 6. Perhaps they're just playing the safe side letting other countries try it first.
Well, so far the battery has been exactly the same but I can't confirm this as I just updated it. I'm also surprise that In Singapore we've gotten the update. When sense 5.5 was announced for our device, I had to wait for weeks to get it. I hope 901e isn't too far off.

Really appreciated that you show me how to do it but is there any way to make the recent apps button to function as a menu button as well? Before the update, I setup my phone to be long press for recent apps and press for menu.

That might be because for the CID HTC__622, the update hasn't been published yet. Either be patient or install a custom ROM.

Supercid is very unlikely to help you in this case, because even if you change the CID in your firmware, you won't change the ones written inside the system (like build.prop).
Sure, you can go ahead and modify it. I still doubt it will make the update appear on your phone, because you'll still have a version of system corresponding to your original CID. You may have already noticed that each CID has its unique version numbers, for instance, HTC__622 version strings always contain the number 708. Even if the update somehow did appear, it won't apply properly because the update contains binary diffs and those won't apply to different files from a different ROM.
In short, supercid won't affect your OTA updates, it would only affect which RUUs you'd be able to install if there were any.

Well, I had a One X for a while and flashing the boot everytime a new rom version was released or changing roms got a bit annoying after a while. I also like being able to flash a rom without being connecting to a PC to fastboot.

Yeah "a bit annoying", that's as far as it goes. As for being a deal breaker, I don't think so.
Some roms don't require you to flash the boot.img manually, such as ARHD
Wasn't there an app that would allow you to flash the boot.img from the phone itself? I think I remember seeing it mentioned on the AT&T HOX boards, but I never used it.
They should stickie the soff issue so users don't need to ask.

S-ON and locked bootloader is also what kept me away from this phone, starting on Samsung now and just going to port sense over.
This device can flash boot.img's, kernels, whatever from recovery. Unlike the one x with it's tegra processor. s-off doesn't really give you any benefits EXCEPT being able to downgrade firmware if you choose to do so.

No sorry. I haven't used it yet, few more weeks to wait for mine. But, with a Qualcomm processor you can flash kernels from recovery just fine. Look at ROMs like renovate for example, everything is from recovery now. I just don't see s off being a have to have thing like it was a couple years back with devices like the dhd. Tho s off could be useful to downgrade software ( flash an old ruu) or to change the unlocked flag back to locked for warranty purposes. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a s off one ** fingers crossed**
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Anybody who wants to flash custom kernels, should know the basic workings of ADB and fastboot. Some devs modify the ramdisk with their kernel, which can cause issues, if you decide to then flash another dev's kernel. A simple fastboot flash boot boot.img, will restore the stock ramdisk and save you a lot of grief.

Well yeah just to get signal back. After I installed viper rom is when i started to get this probelm. Ive had the viper rom for awhile and if my phone died or i had to restart it would loose signal so basically i would have to restart the phone again to get it back but now for like the past 5 days it seems to have lost it for good

You dug a deeper hole for yourself. Nice.
Well now you need to unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, and adb push or adb sideload a rom to get booting.

at OP, please disregard 99MB """RUU"""" (not sure how many quotes i can put)
go with @SaHiLzZ
What are you talking about? The first post ask for an RUU. If it's not what's wanted then so be it. But when did compiling a kernel ever occur in this equation? Do you know how to use HTC dev to find ruu's? It's all in the same spot. Been that way since the website opened. If an ruu exist it will appear in all after search is done.
If a full one isn't there then it isn't there. But it's a good spot to look.

So my situation is that I have previously bricked my phone, sent it to HTC for flashing and now after that, I am unable to install the OTA update for Sense 6. The download is fine, verification is fine, only at the installation part where the blue bar will go up to about 30+% then it will give me a red exclaimation mark error where it will then restart and the version will be as of before.
Things I've tried: clearing Updater cache and resetting phone both didn't work. I saw something about resetting the cache in the recovery or something but I realised that I have no recovery in my bootloader. Is that normal or is that something HTC forgot to add in after they reflash the rom for me?
Thanks for any help given.

Hello all, looking for a little guidance.
My symptoms: My phone (non hk, m8) boots and then reboots after about 3-4 seconds. I can't get through the initial set up at all.
I unlocked using the htc dev option, I don't have s-off, I flashed twrp 2.7.1.0,
I flashed the GPE 4.4.4 from within twrp and as per the instructions, followed that up by flashing the boot.img using fastboot. EDIT*** I also wiped cache, dalvik, and data prior to initial boot.
Everything went smoothly and I started the initial boot, it gets past google logo and the boot animation and it even starts the initial set up, after about 3 seconds it reboots.
I came from latest everything totally stock. (the .10 radio, and 4.4.3 stock rom) I accepted all the OTAs on stock then started the switch to GPE.
Anyone else experience this or know what I should look into to resolve this?
- Thanks in advance.
Update: I am fairly certain this has to do with SuperSU - I will attempt re-installing and ensuring SuperSu is flashed and ready to go before booting.
Update: Final edit - RESOLVED
For anyone else dealing with this, it is a matter of ensuring that SuperSu is flashed prior to booting. Once you've installed the rom, flash latest supersu and then boot as normal.
Same Problem
It'sbeen awhile since I've rooted. I am however having this same issue. How do I go about getting only a flashable SuperSU file? I looked it up and the only thing im getting is a flashable recovery. Any help would be greatly appreciated seeing how my phone is useless atm. Thanks

S-Off
Anyone had any luck obtaining S-Off with this rom? I tried using firewater but every time I get the "whelp, you can't use firewater" message. Any pointers on what I could be doing wrong

You're not doing anything wrong... Firewater only works on some M8s. You should definitely not be trying it in the GPE rom. Stock is what you want.
If you continue to get that message on a stock ROM you'll need to use SunShine S-off instead (I have a feeling that going back stock won't help the issue but it's recommended to be as close to stock as possible).

In the end it probably won't but it's recommended to be as close to stock as possible, meaning you should be on a Sense ROM.

Yeah he stated that he was trying to use firewater on a GPE rom... My suggestion was to flash to a stock rom, not go back to stock entirely.
Ahh **** finz you changed your sn... Didn't even realize...

What's this software version? 6.16.651.2
And there's nothing here that indicates a release date.
That is the software version for Android L . I can't share internal email from HTC . but I will tell you that Wi-Fi calling is good and runs very smooth. I just wanted to give everyone heads you should see update very soon.

Is there an exact release date, or is it one of those situations where they're aiming for the first week of February, but it could miss?
ETA Feb 5th . Keep in mind Sprint not happy or don't approve it. Delay may happen. It is the test lab right now.
Meh. Sprint being happy enough to release an update isn't saying much to me. This phone currently has a lot of weird network glitches. The handoff from one LTE tower to another is poor, and it drops back to 3g far too easily. Its not even signal strength that is the biggest problem.

Thanks! For those who don't know, tommyjoesanders is a very reliable source that we're lucky to have with us. He was extremely accurate with the previous sprint updates.

Guys I was thinking about rooting my phone, If I am rooted will I get the official OTA Lollipop update or not?
Also my phone was unlocked by sprint before I moved from USA, If I root my phone and install a custom rom
will I lose my international unlock?

I can tell you that if you root your phone, you'll have to wait for a rooted version of the Lollipop update to be released, or you'll lose root when you install the OTA.

No and no.
To take the OTA you will need a STOCK recovery and typically an unaltered version of HTC's Android (though sometimes it will take the OTA and just break root.
You should not lose international unlock since that is done completely different (a much deeper level then base android). If you do lose it for some reason call sprint and they will reissue your unlock code.

I'm not saying he doesn't know what he's talking about, but we all know sometimes things get mixed up. Just gotta wait and see. I, for one, hope it's for certain.
I think it's funny how everyone is soooo excited about Lollipop...once it arrives everyone will do what they always do regarding a new update.
They will complain!!

The grass is always greener...
Lollipop works pretty decent on my OG N7...NOW. But that first release; I'd rather have had a root canal.
