[Q] System apps safe to delete? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello fellow XperianSP's ...
I noted that there are so many system apps that I don't actually use, or apparently do not use.
Take, for instance. Xperia™ with Flickr. I already have the Flickr app, and the latter allows me greater control of uploading. So, I do not need that app, right?
Also, the Xperia Link™ app. The description on Play Store explicitly said that it's used to connect the SP with an Xperia Tablet or Vaio PC, neither of which I have. So, it should be safe to remove, no? My laptop can satisfactorily tether (via WiFi) to the SP anyways.
If you have a list of system apps safe to delete -- or, at the very least, freeze using Titanium Backup -- I'd be very grateful if you share.
TIA!
.

This may help you

Here is a detailed list
It explains which can be removed safely and the description of each one...
Some apps may not be there so you'd better check out the list that @greek_assassin mentioned above.

Thanks for the input, people!
I'm chronicling my de-bloatware-ing experience in the following Google Docs spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1F2JE_HWBRkp3yUhDUwGeK5Pl2I4fOQCRL0cPvEmn5HU/edit?usp=sharing
I'll continually update the spreadsheet as I go beyond Freezing to Uninstalling and/or finding more apps to Freeze/Uninstall.
(Do note that the list might not exactly match stock ROM because I'm running eXistenZ Ultra 3.3.0)

Can try System App Remover. It gives some recommendation on what can be removed (but you can remove more!).

Yes
I had already deleted some bloatwares from my phone.and its safe and beneficial to RAM also..Some of the Sony apps are eating RAM very much.
And eating battery also.
So removing bloatwares helps to Device perfomence better.

Undoubtedly. Of that, I have no objection.
The question was: Which bloatware apps are safe to remove.
As I've written above, and will now repeat, I'm doing experimentation through trial-and-error, and sharing the results for the world via this Google Drive spreadsheet:

TIPS: Increase Speed and Snapiness

Ok so I have tweaked my phone a bit for my liking and figured there are many out there that would like some pointers with this.
This is not a ROM or anything like that.
Things needed:
Titanium Backup
Launcher Pro
OS Monitor (optional)
Before we get started I have already rooted my phone as well as made it able to play tegra games using the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1251663
First install LauncherPro from the market. You can tweak this to your likings but these are the settings I have gone with for the purpose of speed and snappiness.
Preferences>Homescreen Settings>Transition Effect>None
Preferences>Behavior Settings>Home key to default screen(on)- this is just a personal preference
Preferences>Advanced Settings>App Drawer>Opening Speed>10
Preferences>Advanced Settings>Screen Previews>Opening Speed>10
You can also make a change in the phone settings
Menu>Settings>Display>Animation>No Animations
Disclaimer: These are simply subjective and have seemed to work the best for me and my phone. Everyone may be different.
Next we all know the stock rom likes to run A LOT of things in the background.
So let’s install Titanium Backup (make a backup first just in case, I didn’t have issues but someone may)
In TB find the app you wish to remove and select then un-install.
Here this is where I will provide pics to show the apps I still have installed on my phone. This is where OS Monitor came in handy to let me know what is running.
This is pretty obvious of the apps you would want to remove (bloat ware).

}
Again these are simply subjective to me and my phone, what may work for me may not work for another. Saying that I have had similar settings with my old captivate.
After all this make sure you give it a nice reboot.
I hope this helps some head in the right path of enjoying this nice phone.
I have noticed a nice increase in the snappiness of the phone and it just feels damn good to remove the damn bloat ware.
ENJOY!
For any other tips PM me or post em here and I will do my best to add to this to help others. At least until we can get a worthy ROM

Android OS consuming battery

So, recently, my battery life has gone to ****...mostly due to Android OS. I'm running MonsterRom 1.2. I just SBF'd the phone clean yesterday and restored apps via MyBackUp Root and TB. I made sure not to use a hand backup because I figured that would restore system settings causing the issue to re-surface. Any help would be much appreciated.
EDIT: I understand that this isn't a drained battery, but the volume of use remains proportional when the phone is nearly dead.

Me too
I've also had a similar problem on both copies of the droid 3 I own. Can't seem to find the answer. Anyone had any luck out there?
Looking into it further
There is a great thread here.
I installed betterbatterystats and turned off syncing for instant upload and Google Docs to see if that would help. Also, com.motorola.blur.service.sync.engine.wakelock.task seems to be a possible culprit on the wakelock side of things. It would be nice if we could put this problem to bed. Besides this and not being able to receive SMS with images in it (I think it's something to do with my provider, Koodo), I love this phone.
Assuming that the phone is rooted, download a app called battery calibration from the market, charge your battery to 100 percent or 4200mah,give the app root access and tap calibrate. You should be good. When changing roms it is important to calibrate your battery. Also you can do the same thing by booting to cwm recovery and erasing battery stats.

Possible progress here
Removing the calendar widget, docs sync, facebook sync and instant update seem to have made a significant improvement over the last couple of hours. I will update as I get more data.
I should note that I'm on .890, I have rooted and debloated except for blur (I want the calendar app unless someone else can suggest a better one), motoprint and task manager.

[MOD] Build.prop faster optimizing apps after clearing Dalvic/Cache!!!!

This is for anyone, especially those that have way too many apps like myself and are flashaholics and tired of waiting 30+minutes for your apps to optimize after clearing Dalvic and Cache.
1. Download a build.prop editor.
I like using the one by JRUMMY , he is an excellent developer and programmer and has been doing it for a very long time.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor
2. Open the app and make sure you are in /system/build.prop
3. Search for this key
dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags
4. If it is not there, add it.
5. Change the property value to this
v=n,o=v,m=y
6. Should look like this now
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
7. Save and reboot.
Now go and clear your dalvic/cache and reboot and you should see a significant difference in your optimizing apps screen.
This took me awhile to figure out and a good bit of research, so if it helps anyone please hit the thanks button.
ALSO
If anyone wants to implement this to their ROM, feel free to, I encourage it! !!
Thanks and I hope this helps with people that have many apps.
I have about 986 right now so using this mod I cut my optimizing apps screen down from over 30 minutes to almost 3 minutes now.
Very nice looking forward to try it thanks sir
No problem man it has really been bugging me because I have so many apps.
Works great. What is it doing differently that allows it to load the apps so much faster?

v=a means verify all,
v=f means verify full,
o=v means optimize verify,
v=n will turn off bytecode verification
u=n means do not optimize for unprocessor
m=y means register maps yes
Found this info here, kinda outdated, but works.

Also, doing a search on google and a lot of research.

Found a way to actually open up some of the Evenwell apps using secret codes

I've spent a great deal of time trying to assess what these Evenwell apps do and have managed to open up a few using secret codes taken from the apps manifest.
1) Use this code on your phone dialler - *#"#3277#*#* it's for Stability Monitor app. This app from the looks of it is designed to send Nokia/Evenwell log reports from ANR crashes, boot reports amongst other things. By opening up the Stability Monitor app, you can actually choose to send yourself all the reports instead of them being uploaded to a server by periodically having zip files saved on your SD card! Very useful indeed.
2) *#*#666#*#* - EMM app. Yes one of the most hated of Evenwell apps that stays running constantly unless you're prepared to use ADB commands. You can manually set up CPU, GPU and DRAM Governors as if you have a rooted phone! You can either switch them off entirely or have them in use at your options. The option2s are switch off, default, screen or heavy app. There are even options for when force stop apps occur and something called dropcache.
You can also see all current app processes and even what EMM considers to be whitelisted apps. Surprisingly it doesn't consider Google Play Services to be whitelisted which answers my own question about why I would get popups to say the app stopped. There is even a way to manually add an app to the whitelist but I have not been successful with this yet as I am not as technically gifted as most people in here.
I will see about uploading some images to the net so I can post here of actual screenshots as I have not made 10 posts yet here so I cannot upload direct from my phone.
There are a few others I've discovered I can open and will update here as soon as I work out what each app does and what you can do on them when you open them up.
I would appreciate some technical assistance with regards to the EMM app as so far by making my own amendments, all I've done is heat my phone up so high I struggle to pick it up! If anyone can test out the CPU, GPU & DRAM Governor options to see which are the best, please update here.
*EDIT* Here's a link to the album I created here to post screenshots -

Unknown application

When acessing the application list that can be put into deep sleep (Battery and device care menu) , at the bottom of the list there is an application which contains 2 chinese symbols followed by 1 (see pic below)

. The application isn't however listed in normal app list, even if I am selecting to be displayed also the system apps. What is about, please ?
Translates to "Starry 1"...Where did you buy your device? If it's from a Chinese seller it's possible it's been loaded with China specific firmware which I would expect to include various monitoring and reporting apps.
It was bought from the one of the official shops of Orange - mobile phone company. How can i get rid of it ?

there are apps on PS that help you obtain the full package name of installed apps. with the package name you can use ADB to disable it.
Tried with some suggested apps, but unfortunately this app is not listed at all. As specified in my first post this weird app is listed only when accessing the menu "Battery and Device Care -> Battery -> Background usage limits" where I can select the apps that can be put into (deep) sleep. But if am accessing the menu "Settings -> Apps" it is not listed even if I am selecting to be dislayed also the system apps. Very strange....
you could also flash unlocked firmware too the phone. using the home_csc file will keep your own apps and data intact.
or you could phone up Orange and ask to be put thru to their technical department. maybe you can email them a link to this thread. they might enjoy the mystery detective quest.
The application is not using any permissions whatsoever. So for now I put it in deep sleep hoping that it does nothing. Will keep searching the net for some more info about it
