[ICONS] Shiny Boxes by coolof

Updated with hopefully a working link and a few more icons. 18/10 2010.
Updated with a hole bunch of new icons, some good others not that good perhaps...you decide . 3/10 2010.
This is a icon set made by coolof on swedroid.se, I love this set of icons and thought I would post my full (so far) package here.
All icons have been made by coolof himself, mannyb, Letterbox115, Verrox, Coldsnap and Klasoran, all located on Swedroid.

Yeah, I hope so to. Coolof have promised us that he will make some sort of tutorial for us photoshop newbies and if he'll make that in swedish and posts it on swedroid I will translate it as soon as I can and post it here.

This is not a flashable zip. You have to extract it on your sdcard and use either 'Desktop Visualizer','Folder organizer' or some other sort of desktop customizing app to change the shortcuts.

The key you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on Mediafire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or Mediafire.

This post is primarily to get feedback from people on a theme I am working on for Beautiful Widgets. The weather theme is pretty much ready to go, and I am working on the clock right now (and will post it soon once I am happy with how it looks).
These are meant to be used on either a dark wallpaper, or with a dark (alpha faded) widget background.
Please let me know what you think! Criticism is welcome but please try and suggest how you would fix any issues you might have so I can best sort it!

I tried unpacking and placing in respective folders on sdcard, but they don't show as an option to select/apply in BW.

If you put all of the clock files in:
(SDCard) /data/beautifulwidgets/skins/SwirlClock
And the Weather files in:
(SDCard) /data/beautifulwidgets/wskins/SwirlWeather
This is my fault because I renamed the ZIP files to add the version number to the end of them. I will fix this soon

Edit: Removed the version number from the end of the ZIP files, if you just extract them into a folder the same name as the ZIP itself (SwirlWeather or SwirlClock) then place the files in your skins or wskins folder then this will work correctly.

Edit: Didn't work, renamed and does not show when selecting skins for clock/weather. Am I missing something, have it renamed and in same path you mentioned?
Edit2: NM got it working, had to rename the screenshot and text file to match the folder names, look and works wonderfully, awesome job !!!!

Really glad people like these! I'm currently on holiday, so no Photoshop. But once I get back I'm planning to put up a black version, as well as a matching LauncherPro dock (and possibly some DTV icons). Any changes people suggest I will try and fix then too!

* The folder named “IFOLDERS” located in the zip file below
If you use TodayXLive (instal on device memory) the only thing you need is to unzip the file below and copy the folder “TodayXLive” to Program files on your device. Then copy the folder "IFolders" to the Program Files in the device memory.
If you use any of the other applications (IPhone Today, Metro Home or Host), you should create links to the exe in the respective folders in “IFolders” (see picture 1)

You will find it in your SDK starter package ( android sdk/tools )
The Draw 9-patch tool allows you to easily create a NinePatch graphic using a WYSIWYG editor.
3. xUltimate-d9pc.exe http://lmgtfy.com/?q=xUltimate-d9pc
Basically you will need to compile the edited 9.png to Draw9Patch Compiler

Now let's play with your pics in the graphic editor of your choice :
your 9.png's files would be in <drawable/drawable-hdpi> folder' apk
When you are done editing your image,
you can open it in the draw9patch tool to verify that it stretches properly.
Here is the most important part of the 9.png creation.
You need to define 2 parts :
* Stretch part ( always left and up side )
* Content part ( always right and bottom side )
When you are done stretching your image,
you can open it in the 9.png compiler tool to compile it properly.
you notice the 1pixel border created for the stretcheable 9.png
Place your files in example1/drawable-hdpi
Execute the xUltimate-d9pc.exe
If you defined properly your 9.png,
you must find no errors and you can hear a "peeep"
Compiled ready files are in /Done folder
When you are done compiling your image,
you can see that the 1pixel border disappeared.
Use 7-ZIP http://www.7-zip.org
(an open source file archiver with a high compression ratio)
to drag your files into the apk !

I know apktools do decompile it when decompiling complete apks, but I couldn't figure out how to do it to a single png file.

Great tutorial. Nice job making the front page on xda too. I assisted with making a new draw9patch a couple months ago and would highly recommend checking out my thread here on xda. It will literally save you hours of time from using the original draw9patch.

A little off topic, buddy, as it is not really a 9.png you are trying to work on but doubke check if the png is indexed. You will find many of the pngs indexed and some not.
Answering from my phone, will help you better tomorrow

Thank you, as this is a good guide. Took me awhile until it finally clicked. I know you emphasized but I do not think enough, the stretch and content lines are vital. I did not quite get WHAT that meant till messing over and over.
Any one trying fot the first time, definitely play with the examples he provided and you will be all good.

There is an app for Android called "9 Patch Editor" that can load .9.png (compiled or with border) and edit them or remove patches altogether. I hope that helps.

Alright, its time for some additional theming ! First i would like to share my custom Xtended dotview case theme (wallpaper). Download the wallpaper here and set it as the theme (crap the whole wallpaper when setting it).
Let me also give you the hint on which programs i use to edit the basic zip files and png (icon) files that i will be using in these small tutorials :
- 7zip to edit the .zip archives
- Paint.net 3.5.11 to edit the icons
First small tutorial on the agenda is the softkey mod
Download this softkeys example zip archive and open it up by :
- right clicking the .zip file and choose 7Zip
- open archive
you will see now the files inside the .zip in a new window :
I usually drag the files out to a custom folder and start editing them in Paint.net, once you opened the files you can edit them to your liking. Scout the internet for icons and images of your liking and edit the several icons to show as softkeys :
The preview.png is there to show how it looks like so edit the main icons (back/home/recent apps at least) into the preview.png. Edit the bar to full black and copy the edited png files into the bar. Once done and all the files are edited you save them and drag them back into the softkeys example archive :
After that you can close the 7Zip window and rename the softkeys example.zip to your own custom filename. And as a final step you can upload them to the Xtended online server !
Place the modified zip file to your phone's sdcard or internal storage and go to the Xtended online section on your phone.
select :
- Xtended online
- uploads
- softkeys theme
now select your zip file and upload it. When its processed we all can use and enjoy the new custom softkey set !
Next on the menu :
- Statusbar mods
- Animated backgrounds
