There are millions of tutorials here...
You have to downgrade to 534 firmware, root it and flash NUT ROM and stripped ftf (or any other stock based ROM)
Latest firmwares can't be rooted directly, that's wht you have to be on "current rooted" firmware

You can just proceed with [NUT]'s method. Now that you have root install recovery and the do the rest of the steps.
If you need help refer to my updated video:

Thanks for your advice
I just processed exactly as NUT guide and had the 4.3 c6903 14.2.A.0.290 rooted :good:
Just a question:
- as NUT guide, last step is flash the ...stripped.ftf
- as your video, i did not see you flash the stripped.ftf. Instead, you flash the original generic 14.2.A.0.290 ?
what is the different? If i flash again the original 14.2.A.0.290 like yours. will it loose root ?
Have a great day!

Oh i see. Now i can start enjoy my Z1 fully rooted 4.3 after 3 days joinning the android world.
Many thanks for helps :good:
Can someone explain me the process of reverting back to 4.3? I just have a lot of problems with 4.4.2 (touch screen issues and my battery is half as good as it was with 4.3 .290).
What should i do? Just download a 4.3 .290 TFT and flash it with FlashTool? Also i would like to root 4.3 .290?
Help, thanks!
In order to root it, just follow the link in my signature on how to get root on Kitkat, but instead of flashing a pre rooted KK rom, flash a pre rootrd 4.3 rom.
Done,
You can not directly root 4.3
Also, now I have ANSWERED your QUESTION I have asked the mods to move this thread to the QUESTION and ANSWER section
Can you link me where i can download pre rooted 4.3 .290 rom?
It's important to be .290 coz i found it to be the best!

BTW, I will recommend .136 instead of .290.

Where did you read that? ..lol..
It was .290 with problems, not .136, it's up to you. I have .136 and no problem at all.
I haven't faced any single problem with .290 so i think ill stick with that one, battery life was insane.

Since Greenify doesn't requires root anymore, i don't need root.
So in order do downgrade i just need to flash 4.3 TFT with FlashTool and that's it?

Well, download 4.3 and flash it through flashtool.
I remember we were losing IMEI if we downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.2 so check for that...
I think there's method (ftf) to avoid that..

CVE-2014-3153 (towelroot exploit) is patched in Sony kernel source and doesn't work any more.
To root, you need to flash a 230 kernel with Flashtool, root then flash back the 283 kernel.

Guys! Try this (read it some where)
1. Flash 4.4.4 tft
2. install supersu, and towelroot then
3. flash only 4.4.2 kernel (don't tick anything in wipe, in exclude list tick everything except kernel).
4.It will boot, then root with towelroot, give it a reboot.
5. u're rooted.
6. Now flash only 4.4.4 kernel back

Yes read before posting.
I and someone else already posted what you have to do.
1. Flash 230 kernel only with Flashtool.
2. Root with towelroot or Easy Root.
3. Flash back kernel from 283 with Flashtool.
Done.

That is for unlocked bootloader @Spock0785
Some cant unlock it so they need to know howto for locked bl
And its also easier of some can post only the .230 kernel to root and also put the kernel of 4.4.4 to flash it back to keep root.

Hi,
Today I have upgraded my "towelrooted" Xperia Z (C6603) from 10.5.1.A.0.230 to 10.5.1.A.0.283 and guess what? To my surprise, the root remained in place in my phone after this upgrade. This is contrary to all my previous experiences with upgrading firmwares in this phone. How did I do that? Nothing special. I have downloaded (OTA) the 10.5.1.A.0.283 firmware and then I let my phone upgrade itself. That's it.
I don't know if this is a region-specific anomaly but I have an unbranded phone purchased in Germany. I checked the details of this newest firmware in my phone and it is a German generic OTA version, exactly this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/stock-rom-xperia-z-c6603-10-5-1-0-283-t2876005 , so it's not some special build or something like that.
Until now, all firmware upgrades used to wipe out every single root I had but this upgrade didn't, luckily. Anyone here with the same experience?
Updating via OTA usually doesn't remove root as long as the OTA doesn't fail.
This is because an OTA doesn't format /system, rather it just replaces the necessary files.

You're on the latest available software for your device (C6606). It seems that T-Mo aren't interested in the C6606 any more and won't approve updates for it.
I've seen around the forum that some people have flashed the C6616 firmware to their C6606 with success. You could try that. I'm not sure if you would lose any T-Mo features like wifi calling though and it's obviously at your own risk. Nothing should go wrong though.
If you want to try, you can download and flash the latest C6616 firmware (10.6.A.0.454) by following my guide - How to package and flash stock roms in FTF format

Most people have found it better to do a clean flash when upgrading to Lollipop, so it's probably best to backup your apps and reinstall after flashing. Apart from that you shouldn't have problems if you follow my guide.
