I just set this up last night and have to say I was really impressed! I now have a complete media control device. If you have XBMC setup on your HTPC or Xbox, you just enable UPnP in XBMC settings, side load Eyecon on the Gtab (if you can't find it in Market), register or login as Guest and fire it up. It will automatically detect your media devices as long as they are able to share media. No need to enter IP addresses and ports, etc. Setup was easy.
The interface is great as it shows you 4 different panes for Search, Results, Play, and Plug (playlists). No need to use the XBMC remote to fight through menus to find your content. Don't get me wrong, I still like the official XBMC remote and will continue to use it for fine tuning, but Eyecon makes playing media easier and more high tech. Check it out.

hello to all! one question.. i want to buy a nas for save my photo - mp3 - documents from my note to it. do you know if it's possible? how can i do that? thank you
Look into the synology devices. They have android apps for music and photo.
So i could upload file to my nas with an app for android?

I can highly recommend a synology too. If you get one check synodroid if you're into torrents.
And yes, you can upload from anywhere to it. I do it via ftp.

just use something like andsmb in market, and use whatever network share or nas...

thank you very much for answers. could you please give me a model of sinology product? Dlna capable?

All recent NAS are DLNA compilant. Of all known manufacturers.
The best known manufacturers are Synology and QNAP. I own one of both and I actually prefer the QNAP to the Synology, QNAP seems more "adult", more serious, than Synology with all the flashy and glimmery interface. Unfortunately my TV did not work well with the TwonkyMedia server QNAP uses in their products, so I had to use the Synology as my main NAS.
Every NAS known to me offers FTP and SMB access. Android can do both with the right tools at hand, so you can even chose what kind of connection you'd like.
You could check out Foldersync from the Market. It can sync with a lot of services/protocols incl. Webdav and cifs. I use it to autosync some stuff every night from my phone to my home pc. It also have tasker support, so you also could start the sync right after you come home and it connects to your home wifi...
I can get the tab to show on the TV but the video content doesn't cast.

I got it to work from my laptop with the stand alone sling app. I used the cast whole screen option.
Hope the android app builds in native support!
Stand alone sling app? You mean something other than through the website streaming?

Yeah, there's a standalone Windows desktop app. Last I checked it was still available on their website, although I don't think it's supported anymore.
Awesome I'll look into it when I get home thanks.

The stand alone sling app is hard to find. Here is a link to the one I use.

I prefer it over the web apps. You can force it to stream HD and that is nice.
BTW, don't take any upgrade that the app offers or it won't work any more.
Confirmed the FB app for slingplayer worked for me.

Hi,
I was reading through the feeds from this thread and followed to download the stand alone app for slingplayer.
Got the stand alone slingplayer to install and actually can see my slingboxes.
Now - I've looked everywhere on the slingplayer to be able to "cast" it using chromecast but sorry, I can't find any option to do that.
The slingplayer version I got is 2.0.3.508
Any help please to further explain to a rookie?
Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have the Chromecast extension installed in Chrome Browser.
Click the cast button in the browser and you will see a little gray drop-down arrow.
In there click Cast Entire Screen.

So I started the standalone Slingplayer, got the video I needed showing already on my laptop, went back to my Chrome browser, then onto Chromecast icon just next to the url field. No gray drop down arrow to indicate option for clicking Cast Entire Screen.

For some reason, I cannot stream using the embedded player. It connects and shows my slingbox 350 (with an amber/yellow light), but when I try to access it, it says "Unable to connect, please make sure your slingbox is on and connected..."
I can connect and stream using the normal watch.slingbox.com site, but as soon as I use the embedded, it doesn't work. I should also mention it works fine on my Nexus 4 and 7.
Any thoughts?

The announcement was today, finally, but guess what? No Solo or HD support. My Solo works perfectly - hate to buy another box. I wonder what the chances are of getting this app to work with legacy products... They claim on their website that the reason they couldn't add support was because the older boxes weren't capable. If they can stream to a Roku, they're definitely capable. I believe that about as much as I believe the original iPhone was not "capable" of sending MMS. I get that they're a business, but I hate when trying to force current customers to upgrade is so blatant.

Yep, Sling is lying.
I replaced my Slingbox in UK a year ago. They only sold the Solo and Pro HD then. Neither is supported now for Chromecast, despite these not yet being officially legacy

Here is a list of Apps that are already working on CCast support
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromecast
As for what I would like to see....
1 - I would like to see the XBMC remote programs allow you to cast to Chromecast as a Target. But I think they would have to add transcoding to XBMC to do it well....
2 - Would like to see a good SCREEN CAST app which I think may in the end not require an APP because it will be native to Android.
3 - The Ability to leverage HDMI-CEC capabilities of Chromecast in an App to enable CCast to act as a Remote Control via IP. (But better would be an IR blaster port in the next generation CCast so those without HDMI-CEC setups can use it as well)
4 - Screen Mirroring support for PC outside of Chrome (Not really an App as much as a program for PC)
Twitch, undoubtedly my app I'd use the most.

I doubt that Dropbox would add casting to it's own app.
Whats funny is I looked at the DIAL homesite and saw the Bittorrent and uTorrent name registered in their database...So soon your Bittorrent client like Azureus or uTorrent may get the capability to stream to CCast.
Check out who has registered names and prefixes for DIAL support.

BBC iPlayer and LoveFilm.
Although I understand they're both UK and the ChromeCast isn't out in the UK yet...so probably not going to be soon.
I do wonder how many Chromecasts are "live" in the UK though!

Great Article! As great as the Chromecast is....It is the DIAL protocol itself that is what makes the device exciting and the Potential to change the way we do TV in the future.
Just imagine TVs with Two Way DIAL support...Whats on the TV can be sent to a second screen...
Or content from any device that supports DIAL can be sent to any TV.
No worrying about the Manufacturer keeping their smart Apps up to date anymore.
My new app PlexiCast lets you cast movies/videos from your plex library to your chromecast.
I know plex now has chromecast support built in. But I started this back last fall when the chromecast beta sdk first came out. I figure there are still some folks not wanting to pay for a plexpass subscription, so now they have another option until chromecast support is added to the regular features of the plex app.
My app has a free 7 day trial. Then a one time in app upgrade to the full version to get unlimited casting.
**** Now open to everybody -> Google Play Link
This app will not transcode your videos like the plex app will. So it will only play video formats supported by the chromecast.
Transcoding is now an experimental feature. You can enable in in the settings.
TRANSCODE WARNING
● No guarantees.
● Transcoding may not give good results.
● This app calls your Plex Media Server's transcoding engine.
● A number of factors like Wi-Fi network throughput, Plex server specs and server load play a part in successful transcoding.
● If you experience problems with transcoding, there are a number of suggestions in the plex forum to improve transcoding results.
● Please do not leave negative ratings/comments if transcoding does not work for you. The results you receive are beyond this app's control.
It also only works for movie/home movie categories. So no tv show, music or photo support currently.
To beta test:
1) join the communit - https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/112798222770978290122
2) opt-in for beta testing - https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.fivehellions.android.plexicast
3) download app (will only be visible once you've done steps 1&2) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fivehellions.android.plexicast
Installed it.

You have to have a Plex Media Server running on your local network. Get it here - https://plex.tv/downloads
Get that running and create at least one library that holds video files. Take note of the computer name or local ip address of the computer you installed it on. Then type that in the server name box.
I'll run it through some paces once I get home.
Went through first two steps and play store says item not found??? Did I miss the boat??? Wait..don't answer that...
Edit: works now

With my app you don't have to pay an ongoing subscription or wait for the chromecast feature to be available in the normal paid app.
I will admit the official plex app has advantages. It will transcode the files so it can play files not supported by the chromecast. It includes photo, tv and music support. It shows movie detail on your tv while your browsing titles. And it looks nicer. So if any of these things are important to you I'd recommend paying for the plex pass or waiting for the feature to be available to everybody.
I started this before plex even said that they would support the chromecast. Then google made regular devs wait 6 months before releasing the final SDK. If you look at the comments on the plex app you will see alot of people refuse to pay a subscription. I figured I'd go ahead and release it for those that don't want to wait and would rather pay a one time fee vs a subscription.

Not sure.
I had an icon designed that incorporated the cast icon and the plex > sign. But then I decided I probably wasn't allowed to use that symbol so I redesigned my icon (even though there are multiple apps in the play store that use it in their icon that are not made by plex)
I could see them having a problem with my app name. If they do I will gladly change it.
Other than that I access data in the official way that they make it available in their web api. So I don't think they can tell me that I'm not allowed to do this.
Cool. Next question.
Do you have play controls like play, pause, stop, etc..?
If so, how did you do it? I'm programming a remote control and have been trying to figure out how to access these controls.
The common and documented HTTP API did not work.

I was trying to do the beta the official way in the play store. They require you to be part of a google plus community or a google group. It is alot easier to deliver new app versions to the testers since they get an app update notification from the play store like regular apps.
But I don't plan on the beta being long. If everything keeps doing well and no major bugs are found I will release it to everybody on monday.

I would start by digging around the cast sdk http://developer.android.com/reference/com/google/android/gms/cast/package-summary.html
The way the sample shows, when you connect to a chromecast it changes the app on the chromecast to your app. So I couldn't control google play music playing on the chromecast with my app. But I bet there is a way to connect to the current session without changing the app. I know there was an app in the play store that does that. (RemoteCast - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benlc.camcast&hl=en)
Specifically I would look at the CastMediaControlIntent and MediaRouteSelector.
When my app connects it calls:
mMediaRouter = MediaRouter.getInstance(context);
mMediaRouteSelector = new MediaRouteSelector.Builder().addControlCategory(
CastMediaControlIntent.categoryForCast(mApplicationId)).build();
mMediaRouterCallback = new CastMediaRouterCallback(this, context);
mMediaRouter.addCallback(mMediaRouteSelector, mMediaRouterCallback,
MediaRouter.CALLBACK_FLAG_PERFORM_ACTIVE_SCAN);
But I'm wondering if you called it without adding a control category if that would work.
Or passed in categoryForRemotePlayback() instead of categoryForCast(mApplicationId) which would at least let you control apps that used the default Media Receiver.
I may look into it next week if I have time. Having an app that could control whatever is playing on the chromecast but also have hooks where app like tasker could interface with it would be pretty neat.
