Noob alert.
Google voice does not appear to work on stock rom on Nook HD or +. Google search confirms this is widespread.
The most recent posts regarding rooted/rom'd devices are old (2012), where it was not working there either. They were working with Jellybean builds, I believe (not sure of CM version).
My question is, does Google Voice work on more recent CM, or other, roms on a Nook HD? Or is there another workaround I was unable to discover?
Unrelated: I quite like the nook built-in (launcher? Skin? Theme? I have yet to master my jargon). Does flashing the ROM remove this, and if so, is it available for download/installation somewhere?
Many Thanks In Advance!
Your pal,
fortfive
I am a big Google Voice user and I can verify it does not work on stock. But it does work on CM10/CM10.1/CM10.2. I don't know on CM11 since I don't run CM11. It does run on my kitkat Samsung device.
And the stock interface goes away with installing CM. And I don't think you can get it anywhere.

Any body have any idea what would make the Walgreens app incompatible with CM10? It worked fine with CM7.2. Could it be a screen resolution setting that needs to be changed? So far not many issues with CM10 running off of SD card. Does not get all the force closes of the task bar like I used to get with CM7.2. Lack of flash is annoying because I can't get Crackle to work now, but that is due to Adobe no longer supporting it after Android 4.0.

Could this be due to not having some phone capabilities built into CM10? I think the app is expecting to be able to make calls so that was my thinking. I wonder if I could install an old version of the .apk from CM72.
I installed the app from a backup on my cm72 SD card and it appears to be working fine.

I've been hesitating to install a CM variant, partly because I'm lazy and partly because I'm worried about the bluetooth issue. Early on, I used the trick to sideload apps and was able to get the Play Store and all that comes with it. My home button takes me to my launcher of choice.
I don't really need much more except its frustrating not being able to have access to the standard Jelly Bean button and in particular to get a list of currently open apps so I can switch easily. Does anyone know a way to do this without installing a new ROM?
Thanks.
How about this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wyLDEsImZhY3Rvcnkud2lkZ2V0cy5yZWNlbnRhcHBzIl0.
Haven't tried it myself.

Try recents plus from the Play Store. It was written for the Nook Color, but works on the HD/HD+.

I'm on the latest update. Google Earth starts up but then crashes.
Does it work for any of you?
Same here... just got one for my wife for mothers day (after confirming that Google Play store worked on mine when updated) and we have found that anything requiring gps or location access does not work or is "not compatible" with our devices. Google Earth, Google Maps, Fandango, Weather Channel, and countless others.
It is a shame, because I love the hd+, but hers is going right back if she can't get the first two apps she wanted.
Any ideas to keep it stock and fix the location problem?

Yes, go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a CWM bootable SD and flash my extras zip. It adds GPS permissions so those apps show as compatible.

Beautiful, thank you!
I flashed the extras zip several weeks ago and it works on most stuff. Google Earth does still crash.

Make sure you have the latest version of extras. I updated it to add GPS permissions.

I just reflashed with the 5/6 Extra. Google Earth works except when I ask it to locate me and it then closes. Other apps do the locate like Google Maps and streetview. It is not a problem for me, just a note for you.
And a big thanks for all your work on the Nook HD series.
@leapinlar
Isn't the 'extra' zip only for the stock ROM? I'm running into the same crashing with Earth in CM, and am wondering if there's any downside to having enabled GPS permission bundled into CM. If need to, we can use a fake-GPS app.

Yes, extras is for stock only. CM10.1 already has the GPS permissions XML in it. You could try removing it and see if that helps with Earth (or just comment out the GPS line in the file). It is in /etc/permissions.

Hey forum.
Before I begin, I'd just like to say this forum is incredible Been a massive help so far! So big thanks.
Anyway, I recently rooted my Kindle Fire HD 7". Incredible, and one of the bets decisions Ive made in regards to my tech.
However, after a few days, it seems to "de-root" itself. My Go Launcher HD disappears (reset to Home), the special offers come back (the ads on the lock screen - i change that as soon as im rooted), and the Superuser disappears. I still have Google Play Store etc, and can reinstall Superuser. The problem is, it still seems not to be rooted any longer.
I use ES3 file explorer, with the root manager, and after this rubbish happens, when I try to access the root manager i get "Test failed. Your phone is not compatible" or something like that.
So I simply reroot, and it's all back to normal (albeit with some annoyances such as having to reinstall Go Launcher).
I've not blocked OTA updates, so is it that?
Thanks for any help!
Ben.
I believe Amazon has updated the OS a few times over the last week or so. This will "de-root" the device each time.

wallpaper issue update 8.4.3
Since the first update to 8.4.1, i have been problems with wallpapers of my kindle fire HD 8.9''. I re-rooted the kindle many times, and actually i tried different launchers as nova or go launcher, however the wallpaper is impossible to change. ¿Some ideas to fix it?

On page 8 I posted a fix for the wallpaper, but I have hit and miss problems with bricking, suggest having a factory cable or twrp handy in case something happens. Feel free to try it.

There are some way to do this easier??? or what files we need to modify...
I see that you use CM10.1 why did you change it? I would like to change but there are a few issues with this so If i have a stable system (however the wallpaper doesnt work) why i should change?
I changed because I wanted to try cm10.1 then said to myself this is so much better, also I'm staying with cm10.1 because I don't like where amazon is going with the os, they just released another update that makes my fix not work because it now has an encrypted framework-res.apk, and I don't know if I can unobfuscate it, still waiting on someone to send me the new framework-res so I can analyze it. And i heard a rumor that they are going to patch the root exploit soon so i prefer stay in on something else that I don't have to constantly maintain and have compatibility problems with. Oh and despite then fact that cm is slightly unstable, i would call it stable enough to use overall. I having had the buggy mic issue yet nor have I had the 3d render issue when I played a 3d game, only problem I had was Google music related and I am not sure if other people have had it. I think HDMI may be slightly buggy but I don't know I have no minihdmi to HDMI cables. But having a full android is is worth it in my opinion, though if you use amazon prime I guess that would be reason enough to not change changes over because there's no such thing outside of kindle os from what I understand. Ironically most of my reading I do on a kindle isn't books but manga... So I have not really touched the bookstore.

Either flash CM10 or Hashcode's ROM that stops OTA updates.
Hi,
I'm really hoping someone can help or at the very least, put me out of my misery. My little girl loves playing Sims Freeplay that I downloaded from the Play Store onto my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7". So, we purchased a Nook HD for Christmas for her. After switching on for the first time, and loading the Play Store, Sims Freeplay didnt even appear on the Play Store. After searching through google it came up with the error message 'Your device isnt compatible with this version'.
After searching online, it was suggested that a rooted Nook HD would allow access to all Play Store Apps. So, I followed the root instructions on this site and downloaded CM 10-1-3 with all of the other relevant programs and installed. Everything went fine and I have a rooted Nook HD, great. Unfortunately, this has not solved the problem of Sims Freeplay. It still doesnt appear on the Play Store and when accessing it via Google it still gives the same error message.
Other users have suggested changing the LCD dpi resolution to 240 but this is the resolution already installed on CM 10-1-3. I have also tried changing it to 320 and 170 (which I believe is the dpi for the Samsung Tab 2 7") but with no joy.
Is there actually a way around this problem because if there isnt I would rather know as this was the main reason for buying my daughter her own tablet in the first place. Should I sell it and replace with a compatible device or is there something I have missed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot find a solution anywhere.
Stuart.
There is a way to get the game on your HD device with CM installed (through the 1mobile.com store), which I tried, but it would not run. It said it could not connect to the EA server and to contact customer support. You might want to try a different device.

One thing to try is grabbing the APK for the app from your compatible tablet and then sideloading it on your HD. I do this sometimes on my Nexus 7 for the Comcast email/accounts app, then move it to my HD+ and install it. The app I use to grab the APK is called "APK Fetcher" in the play store.
That said, the app may or may not run well on your HD, but it doesn't cost anything to try.
Oops, posted at the same time as Leapinlar (who would know better). Only other thought is: I wonder if the game would run on stock ? You can sideload apps on stock without root.

Seems strange, some people claim to have got it working by changing the LCD DPI which I have tried myself both up and down but it has done nothing. Do you think that DPI would have anything to do with why the device is coming up as incompatible?.
Someone else suggested installing a modded version of Play Store which is claimed to get rid of the problem but to be honest I dont really understand that process.
It's annoying that a tablet that I found to be inferior to the Nook HD (Samsung Tab 2 7") works perfectly but the Nook HD doesnt work at all (neither does the Nook HD+ for that matter I think).
