Hey all, just wanted to see if this is more than a sporatic deal... For about a month now, my tethering on my Verizon moto x hasn't been working. I'm unlocked, 4.4.2 with the x tether module installed. I can activate the hotspot, and devices like my nexus 10 and ps4 recognize it and even connect to it, but there is no data exchanged (I have unlimited)... I tried the experimental WiFi tether apk too.. That worked for a couple weeks but now that too has crapped out...
This type of thing happening to anyone else?

I have a very strange problem with my Droid 3 XT862. I've owned it for about a month and right after purchase I rooted and did the TBH radio hack, which worked like a charm. As of last week, though, my wireless tether no longer works. I have tried the built in Mobile Hotspot, Wireless Tether for Root Users, and Barnacle. The only thing that happens is that my computer connects to an unidentified network and will not truly connect to the internet. After this began to happen, I reapplied the TBH hack, but it is still not working. I read around the forums a little bit and heard about CM7 not requiring the hack, so I safestrapped and flashed to it, but the wireless tether still does the same thing. Is there anything I can do to fix this? PDANet still works, but it drains my battery insanely fast.
My XT862's cdma network is not working.
3g and 1x are all wrong.
I can't use them.
but the wifi works correctly.
I flash some roms which downloaded from internet, but 3g and 1x still not work
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

it worked. read below.
did you did something? like trying androidtether?
well i dont know how tethering works. but usually i have seen that tether shares a adhoc network. in the case of the droid 3, it makes an infraestructure network, like having a router.
well while trying the androidtether app in Gingerbread, (which i imported from ICS build, dumb me i know) (in ICS creates i think an adhoc because kerner dont allow native tether) well when i tried that it BROKE my tethering capabilities. i think it switched an internal chip and is not solved by reloading the software software.
summarizing. after 2 SBF and seeing it didint corrected the issue, i installed varios market alternatives including the official ANDROIDTETHER en market, setup and loaded each one of them (barnacle too). the last one was ANDROIDtether. i think this one did the trick, as after not working i uninstalled everything and retried the native one. and it worked.
now i can tether
hope it helps.
Didn't see a definitive answer: Anyone figure out Foxfi/PDANet wifi tethering? USB works fine, but Wifi tethering says to lock the screen, then either enter credential passwords that don't exist even after clearing credentials. Enabling the hotspot of course brings up subscription check. Any success or tips? Or is there another working wifi tether app, non root?
I'm picking up an X this week and this is important to me as well. I tether to me nexus 7 all the time.
Sent from my Rezound using Tapatalk
Just updated to kit kat on my moto x and having the same problem. Verizon broke the foxfi app and none of the other non-root tethering apps appear to be working.
Does anyone know if the bluetooth tethering in pda net works on an unrooted kitkat x on vzw?
Very interested as well as I just got my Cyber Monday Moto X DevEd and my trusty Elixir Wifi toggle widget (or the Tasker equivalent) isn't doing the trick for me. This is vital to me as I have a grandfathered Verizon Unlimited plan and about 8-10 hrs of the day my Nexus 7 (and occasionally my laptop) is tethered.
This would possibly ruin my life... Not really, but I do connect to my phone far more than any other Wifi connection including my home Wifi. How else am I to bring down Verizons ridiculously immoral business model?
As for right now, I am keeping my trusty GS3 active until there is a solid fix, preferably root-not-required.
I used the method in this thread for native tether http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536166&page=4
on my verizon dev Moto X. Used the script in post 35. Worked great

This is my exact situation.
Also, I just spoke to motorola and they said it's impossible to revert back to 4.2.2. except if you root the device, which voids the warranty. Therefore, rooting is not preferred.
Also, the tech said that if you do not update an android device it will eventually force update itself. Is this true?
Will try the method used above in post #35.
So that option requires root, back to square one.
I can turn on wifi hotspot in settings and connect with other devices, but they can't actually connect to the internet. I've tried moto tether in xposed, wifi tether router(with the mooto x specific settings in the app guide), foxfi, and a plethora of other generically named wifi tether apps. Nothing I try is working. My Moto X has an unlocked bootloader, twrp recovery, stock rooted 4.4.2 and I am using straight talk (runs on AT&T's network). This problem has plagued me since I got the phone and I can't seem to find any solution that actually works. Does anyone know of a solution to this?

I had a similar issue with wifi and it was ultimately resolved by SBFing back to stock, re-trying, and it worked like a charm. You can read the whole thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/solved-republic-wireless-unlocked-t2755730
While we never did figure out what the issue was (because my device was completely stock, other than flashing SuperSU/TWRP), but now it works great. I'm using the WiFi Tether for root users...download link is in the thread I linked above. I know its a bit of a pain to have to reinstall your apps, etc, but it was worth it to me.
Good Luck

Has anyone or can someone test to see if foxfi wifi tethering works on the 2014 motoX. It did intially on the moto x 1st generation but then a software update disabled it.
Also, does the USB tether mode work? I'm looking to pick up a moto x this Friday when it releases on Verizon.

Interested in knowing the outcome of this.
I just posted the same thing a few hours ago - I really want to have the ability to tether - shoot, im tethering now!
Didn't work at first (said my carrier, T-Mobile, blocked it), but after a reboot It worked fine. But I think it just activated the built-in Hotspot functionality of Android.

FoxFi always appears to, the question is whether it counts against your tethering usage or not.
I use my Droid Turbo as a hotspot for the Nexus 7 I have installed in my dash. I use Tasker to automate the process, so that it turns on the hotspot when a connection is established with Tablet Talk, and then turns it off when the connection is lost. (Actually, because third party apps are apparently unable to turn off the hotspot, I just have it bring up the wifi settings page.) This worked well on my old rooted Razr Maxx, both on the original firmware and with CM11.
On the Droid Turbo, it will work great for 2-3 times, but after that it will stop sharing the phone's internet connection. The hotspot is still created, the Nexus still connects to the hotspot just fine, but it can't access the internet anymore. I tried a factory reset, and the same issue came up.
I know it's a bit obscure, but any suggestions? At this point I have to restart my phone every day or so to keep it working, which is quite annoying without root.

Its a bug introduced with the last OTA. It *should* be fixed next update.
