How to unlock Lumia 521 t-mobile - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Prepaid Lumia 521 with T-mobile US carrier. I want to use my phone on a different network but it is asking for a code. I tried the t-mobile customer care, but to no use. Please provide me a way to unlock the phone for free....
Thanks in advance...

just pay for it if the phone is less than a year old (if that's the requirement with your provider).

I have been travelling a lot since then....and do not have a t-mobile service here....so I want it unlocked so that it can be used for other carriers....

Use their online service, if the phone is more than a year old it's free and if not it will cost you about a hundred euros, don't know how much in your currency

Is there any trustworthy online unlocking service available, which can unlock thhe phone cheaply

I think you have a warranty shop to ask for more specific advice . It is possible to intervene in the hardware

Expensive SIM Unlock

Hi guys, I'm a fellow XDA member from the HOX+ neck of the woods. Just got my dad an AT&T Xperia TL and wanted to unlock it for him since he uses it most overseas and was shocked at the cost difference between unlocking my HOX+ (also AT&T) and the Xperia TL...$15 vs $40...and 1hr vs 5 days.
What gives?
Unfortunately there's not much you can do about it. If he needs a sim unlocked phone that badly, he shouldn't have bought one on a contract. You could try searching online, but in my experience it's only shady websites offering sim unlocks. On the other hand, if it's absolutely necessary to sim unlock, $40 is not an extreme amount of money.

It says
All contract obligations, including any term commitment, associated with the device to be unlocked have been fully satisfied.

I'm guessing the contract is still running, as the phone is not yet THAT old.

Days and paid your bill
Yes, but that is stated under Additional. So the way I read it is that you first have to fulfill your contract and then, when you have no bills unpaid, they provide a sim unlock.

When I switched from my Samsung S3 to my Xperia TL, I just asked for the unlock code on an online chat session. They gave me the unlock code for the S3 immediately during the chat. But, I guess it could have been because I was selling the S3.
I ended up forking over the $39 for the unlock code. Unfortunately, need to use the phone abroad next week, can't wait the 60 days
Considering I paid $0.01 for the phone from Amazon, $39 doesn't seems like much then.
Just need to wait for the unlock code now, takes up to 6 days. We'll post an update when I get it.

Can I SIM unlock the phone once rooted?

If so, how do I do it?
Buy an unlock code online or contact your mobile provider, who after 3 months will charge around 15 quid for it

the best would be contact your network provider. these unlock sites are mostly crap and scam.
Ah, I thought there would be some special way to do it (for free) once rooted. No worries, I'll contact Three at some point.
I have heard of owners obtaining a SIM unlock code for £15, but there wasn't any need to wait three months

Not necessarily true mate I paid €20.81 last week with www.mobileunlocks.com and got the unlocking code within 7 minutes, you can't argue with that!

Be aware that if you unlock it, if you send it back to Sony for warranty repair, it will be reverted to factory settings, I.e. Simlocked again. I've just got my s back from having its yellow screen replaced and it's now simlocked to o2 and the bootloader unlock status is now no

Call Orange
All you have to do is call Orange Customer Service and they will send you the code.
Last time I did it, it cost me £15 payable on my next bill (if you are on pay monthly).
They can't say no to your request as they don't own the phone. Actually, the didn't ask me any questions, they just did it.
Hope that helps :good:

Wow you guys pay for sim unlock? All phones from carriers here are sim unlocked and have unlockable bootloaders.
It is required by law, but I like it.

Wow, you were lucky. I purchased a second hand Orange locked phone and because it didn't come with its original SIM Orange couldn't/wouldn't unlock it. They said it needed an Orange SIM in for them to see it to unlock, the IMEI alone wasn't enough. And, if they could have done it, they would have apparently charged £30. Advised me to go to one of those little high street shops to have it done.
Orange customer service (a misnomer) sucks, by the way. I've dealt with them before with a similar experience. Rant over.
It's now £20.50! For the unlock!!!

Go into the service menu *#*#7378423#*#*
Service info
SIM lock
If there's [x] next to network, it's locked. The number after it is the amount of unlock attempts remaining.
However, if the phone came from Orange, you will be able to use it on T-Mobile and EE without needing to unlock it.
