[Q] rooting nexus one

hey guys i just got my nexus one 2.3.3
im confused what 2 do first
root, unlock bootloader
what 2 do first?
and i preffer to do all these things WITHOUT adb, bcoz adb never works with me

You can't unlock bootloader without ADB (or actually without fastboot, but if you can't get ADB to work, then you probably won't be able to get fastboot to work - since they work the same way).
My suggestion is - do nothing. At least until you'll be able to follow one of the guides and get ADB and fastboot to work. Then you can decide yourself, whether you want the bootloader unlocked or not, and how will rooting benefit you.

what are the benefits of unlocked bootloader?
i just wanted it to get it rooted and flash CM7 on it

It has been discussed a lot, please search to get A LOT of answers.
In a very short version, the benefits are:
Safe radio updates (using fastboot)
Ability to flash whatever you want whenever you want - which is, permanent ability to have root access, regardless of the currently used OS.

If there's lock icon at the bottom of boot splash screen, it means the bootloader is already unlocked. Is it used one?

yes its used, i guess that guy alrdy unlocked it for me
another problem
i have serius wifi issue, its different from the other wifi problem
if i connect to my wifi its authenticating, then disabled
i dont even go to sleep its just says disabled after authenticating, i tried reconecctint but same things happens again...
i installed wifi fixer but that doesnt work either
also, my 3g drops after 4 sec and i cant get it to work afterwards

Flash a new ROM, wipe your data, and try.
Repeat.
If the problems will still persist - they're in HW and you can't do anything about them.

This is exactly the reason why I suggest not touching your phone.
You either don't understand what exactly I'm guiding you to do, or don't understand the difference between various maintenance/repair operations. Flashing a new ROM and wiping user data from custom recovery ISN'T the same as doing "factory reset" from within already-installed ROM. Flashing 2 ROMs with different base (for example, lightly modified stock and CM7, or CM7 and MIUI, etc) introduces enough difference on the SW size to (almost) make sure that any problem which persists in both new ROMs, is coming from HW.
In any case, I suggest either waiting for someone with much more patience than myself (which isn't hard - patience isn't one of my strengths) to explain you some basics that you're not willing to learn yourself by reading, reading and some more reading, or to give your phone to someone who knows what he's doing.

Ok well now I need to know if you have a custom recovery, if so then just 5X wipe plus 3X system wipe and flash a new ROM, if not then do you have root access if not I'll walk you through the process.

Don't use Clockwork Mod 3.+ as recovery--which seems to be your next step--get a lower version
I prefer Amon_Ra 2.2.1 for my recovery
BACKUP phone (NANDROID) as soon as you get the recovery
Look thru Cyanogen thread from OP page and last few dozen pages
Cyanogen flashes a little differnet with having to flash gapps separate and flashing Dark Tremor's a2sd after each Nightly flash

i think i wont use nightly builds, but a stable? or RC?
which should i take?

How about cm7.1 RC1 that is the latest version of cyanogen mod.

why not clockwork recovery 3? the cyanogenmod rc1 states that i need that?

should i use gingerbeak? im on 2.2.3 and install the recovery afterwards?

ok i rooted it with gingerbreak and flashed clockworkmod recovery on it
after that i went into recovery and couldnt find nandroid backup so i rebooted again
i tried to make a backup via rom manager and it ended up with a "!" icon
i tried to go into recovery again and again i got the "!" icon

I don't know anything about Gingerbreak
But, on CWMod 3.+, it has been unstable for a lot of people--I don't recommend it
If you have Rom Manager--flash something like 2.5.1.4??

I am not sure, but if you get the exclamation, you may not be rooted
If you are experienced at flashing, I would as another poster suggested--get to know your phone and study hard info from the Rom threads you want to try before trying.
What color was recovery--did it say ClockWork
I don't think you will see the name Nandroid in Clockwork--just Clockwork backups

A couple more suggestions, if you want
Back up sd card regularly--you will lose it on occasion--if you need to reformat it, use sdformatter outside of phone
Partition sdcard with zero swap
Wipe all (data/caches) multiple times before flashing new rom, including System

[Q] New to android

I just bought a Motorola Milestone from a friend with android 2.2.2 fryo already installed and running at 800mhz.
i was just wondering since this isnt exactly the latest rom, how easy is it to install a new rom (are they all ready to go, no weird stuff to install after?) and to go back to the current rom just in case.
it also already has been rooted.

Well if you have clockwork recovery already installed just put the custom rom file in your sd card and boot in to recovery then wipe, install zip from sd, pick the rom, wait for it to finish then reboot.

since you're asking for a good rom, and for the relative howto, these are my 2c:
1) you should really put in your sdcard a good recovery, if you don't know what version you have at the moment. Download the zip and put it in your sdcard.

MAKE A FULL NANDROID BACKUP before flashing roms, to get back easily
2) to me, CyanogenMod 7 is the best rom for daily use, since you have a sort of equilibrium between features and performance. I prefere original kabaldan rom, but you could also try OH NO! version. In general, all you have to do is put the zip file you want to flash in sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates, and reboot by holding camera button. You'll get either OpenRecovery menu (wher you'll find "apply update" functions) or standard recovery screen (a warning triangle).
If you get the triangle you have to press volume up and camera button together, and "apply update"; you'll get the aformentioned OpenRecovery menu.

KEEP IN MIND that you'll have to put both the rom zip and the gapps zip in the updates fode of your sdcard (that is, these links: https://github.com/downloads/nadlabak/android/update-cm-7.1.2-Milestone-KANG-signed.zip and http://www.multiupload.com/NQAPSYPKIW)

Just wanted to know, current rom is actualy really nice and fast, so dont know if cm7 is going to make it slower. Just gonna give it a try then^^

[Q] My method of installing ROMs - unsafe for the Note?

Hello everybody,
First of all: I have rooted some devices before, often in very bad conditions (Softbricked ones, simlocked and branded ones et cetera). However, all of them were not mine.
My smartphone is the Samsung Galaxy Note w/o branding or simlock but with the original Samsung software.
There wasn't really a reason to root my phone up to the point when it broke down (ergo: Shut itself down, reinstalled everything) on one day a few months ago, since that day, my phone has got a really, really bad battery life, apps are destroyed and it is pretty slow. Built-in obsolescence, as I won that phone when it was released, so I got the earliest version.
Because of this, I want to root dat phone and install dat cyanogen-shizzle.
All the phones I rooted before were rooted with my untested and never-recommended method of rooting it with a exploit on the phone, putting up clockworkmod via rom manager and then flashing cyanogen. Sometimes the phone was going crazy, but it always worked, every phone is working way better than ever before.
However, I read some real horror-stories about hardbricks on the Note as Samsung did some really bad work as always. (My next phone will be a Nokia Lumia anyway.)
So, what I wanted to ask: Can I root my phone and then install clockworkmod via ROM manager and then install the ROM via Clockworkmod without being exposed to an enormously high risk of a hard brick? My phone is currently on Android version 4.1.2.
I checked the phone with "Got Brickbug" and yes, I'm having it.
Any help would be appreciated

Best, easiest and hassle free way to get root and custom recovery is to download the philz kernel (the one corresponding to your ROM):

you can do wipe, flash any custom rom, backup, restore and many more things on this.
Edit: download the zip file, put on ext sd, go to recovery select install zip from external storage, choose philz .zip file and that is it.

[8190N] How to root my phone and install CM 11 ?

Hi!
I encountered some issues with my battery. With a regular use of it, my battery can not last longer than 12/15 hours. Wifi/bluetooth/3g are never activated when I don't use them, and my screen luminosity is always on the minimum setting. After I checked on the internet what was wrong with the battery, I found out that its lifetime can be increased by installing a custom ROM, that's how I learned about Cyanogenmod.
I would like install Android 4.2.2 Kit Kat on my phone but I don't really know how to do it. I know that I need to root my phone but all the tutorials I found out about it was for the i8190 version of the phone (and I got the 8190NXXAB1) or seemed outdated (from 1 yr ago). I don't want to "kill" my phone by doing something stupid so it would be so nice of you if you guys could explain me how to root my phone and then how to install CM 11... I'd really appreciate it cause this battery issue is a real problem to me since it can't last the whole day...

You don't need to root the phone to install a new ROM - just:
1. Use ODIN
2. Install custom recovery
3. Dalvik and wipe
4. Flash ROM
5. Enjoy!
maclaw.pl has good instructions and downloads for all the tools including good quality ROMs for i8190N (although NFC may not work) - same model as my phone. I bit the bullet and went custom only last week, happy with Carbon at the moment
If you want better instructions with pictures, just google "flash a custom ROM with Odin" or something similar, there are plenty out there.

I searched for some instructions on Maclaw's website but I didn't find anything... Maybe the instructions are included in the ROM archives? (edit: found the instructions )
On many tutorials people were saying that it is needed that the phone is rooted, you sure I can install cm 11 without it? Also, they were talking about some apps like ClockworkMod, is it not needed too? (i don't have any SD card)

Just follow Maclaw instructions and you'll be ok. I believe they already include TWRP recovery so you don't need CWM.
Also if you want to say thanks just hit the "Thanks" button on my post

Maclaw´s rom are pre-rooted, that means you´ll get root-access automatically if you flash them. The gapps include all Google APPS (=Gapps), they´re not included in the rom nativly.

I have ..., guess what ? a RAZR i (Ok, it's a friend's one) that I repaired changing the mad battery after factory resets didn't do anything. Then found OTA was available, applied and the RAZR i was 4.1.2 IIRC and the new battery went OK. My mistake, another OTA went soon, which I applied too, making the RAZR i a 4.4.2 kitkat piece of crap (no more write access to sdcard, this is well known ... by the ones aware , know I'm one).
Then I thought I could make the phone free and search the web for days to try to understand, found a french forum which said I can't do anything without unlocking the bootloader, what I did.
They directed me there to remove the boot-logo-warning but that's a razr hd thread and nothing worked for me. I can't remember where I read I should have CWM to do this, but as the french guy said he rather like twrp I didn't do anything at the moment, only failed to flash some logo from fastboot with various errors....
Well, I'm there, and it's cool because I hope this is the good place to have answers to questions that are still in my mind for years, and 2/3 new ones... fortunately they'll overlap and self-resolve once I get one. I'm not at all skilled in android, I only flashed a phone in 2010 and that's why I still have android SKD in my ubuntu (I also have a xp box, but I couldn't do anything for my old Acer LiquidMT). As you see, I'm a vintage things amateur (... okay, I'm vintage too).
Now the scene is built, please let me dare ask what still puzzles me :
1) For the Razr i 4.4.2 (french from sfr-vodafone kia20.74 now used with another carrier) do I have to search a specifically dedicated recovery ? Parsing this RAZR i Q&A, I found twrp seems to the preferred recovery, but I'd rather like to get confirmation from skilled ones, and also for version.
2) And please tell me if I'm wrong thinking the [RECOVERY] Unofficial TWRP 3.0.2-0 thread aim is to bring support to the RAZR i which is not supported by official teamw.in ? (BTW, @Hazou, the 1st link in the thread - DataMedia - is dead)
3) Assumed I have to go the TWRP way and I only have currently the stock recovery, do I guess right the only way is download img.zip and extract then do

Hey 1stStep,
A lot off assumptions and questions. And most of them are right.
1. Afaik there are 2 recoveries for the RAZR I. Stock and my build TWRP 3.0.2-0 unofficial. (Thanks for the heads up about the link)
2. Answered in 1.
3. Yep. If your bootloader is unlocked it gives u the function to flash non-stock firmware to the phone. Stock firmware are signed to prevent normal users flashing wrong firmware. Firmware consist of a couple of images. Those images contain data for the partition, just like in your PC. Every image does something else. Most known are boot, data, system, recovery and cache. There are many more. Some needed, some unnecessary.
To answer your question: when u have flashed the TWRP recovery u override the stock one. The TWRP can flash zip files and images to the most known device partitions. From here on u can flash a superuser zip(gives root access on the current ROM/system). Make sure u have the right superuser zip. There are many.
4.
Path to root on stock:
Unlock bootloader->install custom recovery (TWRP)->install superuser zip->reboot and test root on device
Path to custom ROM:
Unlock bootloader->install custom recovery (TWRP)->install ROM zip and extra's if needed like (Gapps(needed for Google playstore and more))->reboot and play with your new ROM.
Off course if u already have the bootloader unlocked and installed a custom recovery, u can skip those.
In the recovery u can also make backups, called nandroid backup. Read up on them and everything u wanna do.
5. The only thing u never want/should do is flashing Android 4.0.4 stock firmware without prior modifications. This is because from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 there was a change in bootloader (the thing u unlock). If u go back it corrupt a part of the firmware which is difficult to overcome or even impossible without some factory stuff. Everything above 4.1.2 is save. And can always be flashed. The latest stock is 4.4.2 (KIA 20.74) and latest available custom ROM is 4.4.4 (CM11 or soon Lineage 11).

- Most custom roms are prerooted.
- Cyanogenmod/LineageOS are prerooted
- Root installed by a zip will not survive any system flashing (rom flashing)
- Any modification to your system partition will not survive and system flashing (rom flashing), though 1 exception:
- installed gapps package (google apps/play store etc.) will survive system flashing on cyanogenmod based roms. But only when updating the rom to a newer version on the same android version. So:
CM11 version 1 to CM11 version 2. (because of a special script in the install zip)
Pre testing a boot or recovery image is blocked on our bootloader. So u can't do it. It's a shame they did it. Working on any boot or recovery changes is a pain in the spoken ass.
If u flash the recovery with:

there is nothing to be afraid off. The TWRP 3.0.2-0 recovery is well tested on this device.

[Edit] : I've been puzzled for days being stuck in endless "Flashing recovery ..."
In the ended I decided, after saying 1 hour waiting a hypothetical "success/congrats message", NOT QUITTING the current fastboot screen, to select the recovery option in this very fastboot menu (on a Razr i : Vol- to highlight recovery item, then Vol+ to select) and bang I was in TWRP menu. What to do next once in, it is another story.
