Issue with fingerprint unlock - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I set up the fingerprint scanner to unlock my screen exactly how it's supposed to be done, within the menus. I set up and registered my fingerprint without a problem. But, when I lock the screen, then go to unlock it, it has defaulted to me swiping the screen. If I restart the phone, the first time I have to unlock it, it asks for my fingerprint. I do that, then if I lock the screen again, it once again defaults to swipe. I dont understand why it doesn't stay on for every unlock. Someone help me, this is annoying.

System Settings > Lock Screen > Secured Lock time. What does it say here? change this to what ever you desire. Instant to 1 hour. mine was 10 min default I think. I use 3.

It said 10, you were dead on, that fixed the problem. Thanks so much for your help.

ATT Galaxy Note 3 won't change lock screen security methods?

I was wondering if anybody had noticed this.
When I change lock screen security from swipe to say "lock pattern", it does nothing.
It'll disable other lock widgets, because I guess in 4.3 or touchwiz you can't have widgets and lock patterns (but I digress).
The lock screen unlock will still be a swipe, no pattern.
Anybody else experience this?
Any work arounds?
Thanks.

I assume you changed the timeout for the lock engage?

That baffles me until I noticed I did not change the timeout for the Secured lock time to instant. Then I said to myself, this can be useful. Set Secured lock time out to 1 hour and use the password lock option. If I lost or displaced my phone, it will be password locked in 1 hour but if I use my phone constantly every 5-10 minutes, I still have the benefit of the easy to use slide to lock knowing that it is backed up with a password lock after 1 hours of no activity.
Then I try to repeat this on my old Sprint Note 2, Sprint Note 3, Samsung Note 10.1 2014 and I can't do it. Instead of a slide to unlock within the specified Secured lock time, I am greeted with a totally unlock screen. Which is really bad for butt dialing and accidental touch screen use since the screen is not protected by slide to unlock while it is in your pocket.
It seems this is a unique feature to AT&T note 3.
Try turning off the lock screen effect. I had this problem and I changed the effect from watercolor to none and that fixed it.

Do you mean that once you unlock your device using the fingerprint, and then lock your device, it doesn't ask for the fingerprint again? If so, that's because you need to change the "secured lock time". It's under Settings > Lock screen > Secured Lock Time. Set the timer lower or have it instantly lock whenever the display turns off.

This is what I had to do. It is unfortunate the fingerprint reader only lets you register 3 fingers.

Thanks that fixed it. Didn't see that option
It's been my experience so far that the default setting out of the box allows you to unlock the phone for a few minutes without requiring a fingerprint just in case you locked your phone & forgot to one last thing.
Of course, I can see the benefit of setting the time-out for this feature if one has a very suspicious mate or is doing things to warrant a mate to be suspicious.
I'm surprised, the reviews made it seems like fingerprint wasn't reliable but it's great. Even had my girlfriend try it. No GS5 for her.

If you watch some of the video reviews, not all...but some, it looks like they were trying to make it malfunction on purpose to make it look bad.
I still get a bad read every once in awhile, but I'm at probably a 99% success rate. I'm *very* pleased.

[Q] Screen lock to start - how to enable/disable?

A few weeks/months back I did some setting in my Nexus 6 that sets the screen unlock pattern whenever the phone boots.
i.e. when the phone boots, it asks you to enter you screen unlock pattern in order to boot.
Now I want to disable that so that I don't have to unlock my screen in order to boot. But I am not able to find that setting... I don't remember where it was. I looked under Security...Smart Lock...etc... can't find it. Where is that setting?
I haven't rooted or unlocked the phone. So it must be some default setting (which I am not able to find now).
In security- Change Screen Lock to None or Swipe.. This'll release your problem..
Then check in pattern lock again. There is the option available, which you mentioned..

Thanks! I should have looked at that.
This will be the option

Lock Screen Fingerprint Unlock

I have my lock screen set for fingerprint. If the device is shutdown or restarted, the lockscreen asks for a fingerprint. After that if the power button is pressed to shut off and lock the screen, the next time it is turned on the lockscreen asks for just a swipe. It wont ask for a fingerpring again until the system is restarted again. Anyone else have this problem? Solutions?
You have to go into settings and set the power button to lock device. Or you can change the settings to lock device after a certain period of time.
It's under Lockscreen/Secure Lock Settings

You can also set it to not lock if it's connected to a certain device, like a Bluetooth.
This is a god sent because it's always been a pain to unlock the phone in a car after it's gone to sleep and you are streaming music from it.
Thanks! That was driving me crazy. I knew it was there, but couldn't find it.
I know what you mean! It was confusing the heck out of me in the beginning but then caught on.
How do one wish to switch back to just a simple swipe after choosing fingerprint unlock
The SWIPE option is now greyed out ??

Fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone question

Just picked up the note 5 a couple days ago. the fingerprint scanner works great, but I have the fingerprint option to unlock the phone selected and still most of the time all it wants me to do is swipe to unlock, occasionally asking to use the fingerprint. Is this normal? I'm under the assumption that it should require a fingerprint everytime you unlock.
It always asks for fingerprint for me, unless I'm doing the quick camera. It will say swipe home key, its asking you to clean off the button with your finger
I believe the combination of "screen timeout" and "lock timeout" settings will take care of this. However, I used to be able to just use fingerprint to unlock, and now (after last update maybe) I have to sometimes use swipe AND fingerprint which is annoying, and I can't figure out the combination of settings to adjust this.

Are you using any form of smart unlock, via location or bluetooth connections?

I am using SmartLock (both locations and bluetooth), and from running into another forum thread, I believe I'm also treating the Padlock icon wrong, where I was dragging it thinking it was there to be dragged, when really it was there to let me lock the phone (which half makes sense I guess), hence then requiring the Fingerprint unlock. Confusing, but makes more sense now.

I was doing the same thing, which is why I asked about smart lock because I think that is the only time you will come across this issue. The more you know!
