[Q] windows driver issues for vivid

I'm fairly new to android and i was wanting to root my htc vivid but it will not connect to my computer. I first plugged it in and the windows device manager installed a driver that just said unknown device. so i went and downloaded the htc sync software but even that won't recognize the vivid. I'm at a total loss and need direction.
Drivers at htc
Did you try the drivers at developer.htc.com ?
Page 4 from "Kernel Source code"
Download ADB http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/adb.html
Choose Connection Type
When you connect your Vivid to the PC via the USB cable, you should see a screen asking what type of connection you want - charging only, disk drive, sync, etc. If you are not trying to actually sync data, just select disk drive and the tap the Done button at the bottom. You can then see the internal storage (and the "external" SD card if you have one installed). This can be done even if HTC Sync does not work.
If you don't see the connection type screen, go into Settings and tap on Connect to PC. Check the Ask Me box so you will be prompted the next time you plug in the USB cord.
As to HTC Sync, see my posting elsewhere in this forum about HTC Sync not working. In my opnion, it's not a very good program.
As for the driver, you may need to uninstall the driver if you can. Then uninstall and re-install HTC Sync to get the correct driver.

I had similar issues trying to install the ICS update. Some searching lead me to this post that had just the drivers I needed.
-Brett.
I've tried the drivers from that post before and still no dice. And when I connect my phone it never asks for connection type even when I have it checked. I'm still in the same boat

Exactly what he said, Windows Vista didn't tell me any drivers were required (in charge only mode), but I had to install the XP drivers from that link before the RUU would proceed past the very first step. After I did that it worked fine.
Just unzip the drivers to a folder and when Windows tells you it can't find drivers, tell it to look there.
Ok I have the same issue but windows doesn't tell me it can't find drivers it just sits there. So how di I get it to accept the drivers?

I found the drivers for windows by going thru the at&t website... Then once I installed the HTC sync software (yes I know it doesn't work) and ran it... It told me there was a new version... I installed that and like magic it finally knew it was there...

HTC has new drivers that work when the old drivers did not. HTC SYNC from htc.com Load in Windows7 and they will run in the background.
read the posts above to set your phone correctly and you should be good to go. Gary

[Q] Xperia SP - ADB Drivers

Hi!
I cannot find ADB Drivers for Xperia SP (need them to root the phone )
Can someone provide a link to download them?
thanks!
Are you on 64bit Windows 8?
Coz I faced the same problem.
But then I tried rooting on a Windows 7 pc. And Windows automatically installed the correct drivers. Seems that adb isn't supported on 64bit Windows 8.

Connect your Xperia SP via USB. (Don't forget to enable USB Debugging)
Then run the Software (http://adbdriver.com/downloads/) and choose ur phone, which should be listed in the list.

If you get error(mostly on windows 8/8.1) while installing driver; then you have to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement and give another try.
To Disable Driver Signature Enforcement:
1) Move the mouse pointer to the BOTTOM RIGHT of the screen and go to SETTINGS.
2) Click CHANGE PC SETTINGS
3) Choose GENERAL from the left side and under Advanced Startup click on RESTART NOW
4) Your PC will restart and you will see some options.
5) Select TROUBLESHOOT > ADVANCED OPTIONS > STARTUP SETTINGS > RESTART
6) Select Disable Driver Signature Enforcement and your PC will boot.
Now install driver using above given link.

Windows will install adb drivers automatically once the phone is connected (depending on what mode).
Give time and let the "Windows Device Manager" do the rest.
If you want to try to unlock bootloader, thats another story...
Use this and follow the guide:

Try to let the Windows re-install the correct drivers.
Go to the Control Panel and open Device Manager (your device should be connected in charge mode only and debbuging ON),
you should see something like "ADB Interface" and "Android Sooner Single ADB Interface", right-click on it and choose "Update Software Driver"
(something like that, mine is in portuguese...). If it doesn't work, just uninstall it and "Search for Hardware Changes". Let Windows install it
from the Internet.
BTW, the driver location should be: "x:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\lgandnetadb.sys"

another way that maybe works but is more like a "pro" way , is to install to your pc the whole android sdk. this will search for drivers on its own and install them. it will install the latest google adb which is also working. if u dont make it to force the drivers in, let me know to show u link to the android sdk ( easy to find though ** if u end up to sdk careful to download the x32 version even if u are on x64 and double check that u have installed the latest java jdk also x32 even if u r on x64 ! )
i have sdk already, it dont matter which adb interface i want to add from google it always has the exclamation
adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20130917.zip
in your case i cant help any more. i told you exactly what to do. next step is if i was there to do it myself. ill try make some images to show you how i installed the drivers but it will be in greek. button and everything are in same place, only language will be different.

I got mine working with the following steps, but I had it working on Win8 before updating to 8.1 so it may or may not work for you:
Right click the xt1058 option that shows it has a problem
Select update driver software
Select browse my computer
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Select ADB interface and hit next
Select Mot Composite ADB interface and click next
After that I was able to get it to connect with mtp, get fastboot responses, and use the adb commands again properly
It works like a charm!

TY SO MUCH, WAS LOOKING FOR FIX FOR HOURS. I didnt notice that option at the bottom im so stupid..
How to get MTP and PTP working
I know this is an old thread. But after an hour of research I figured out the real problem.
You simply can't install the MTP or PTP driver properly because you may have Windows 8.1 Pro N
N is a special version used in Europe where there is no media player and software around it installed to give 3rd party media players a chance.
Howerver, to solve the problem and get the phone found you have to install the device drivers AND the Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8.1 .
I'm sorry. I would post the direct link to the microsoft download site. But I have never posted in this forum till now and so I'm not allowed to post outside links yet.
But if you copy & paste the following in google you'll be fine and find it in no time: Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8.1
After you have installed it and rebooted your system the drivers are found and you can see your phone (or camera) in the device manager.
Hope that helps some ppl.

Theirs also a workaround that worked for me .. it's a hack that installs the windows 8 drivers on windows 8.1
use the old dirty method (manually copy the files from your desktop)
