Nillkin 9H tempered glass just put to the test. - One (M8) Accessories

Well today while plasti-dipping my rims, I dropped my M8 from about 5ft right perfectly face down onto the edge of the concrete curb. The phone made the disgusting pop sound that I'm sure we all know and my heart sunk. When I picked it up the the glass was indeed shattered. I didn't think there was any way the Nillkin could've saved my display. Very much to my delight once I peeled off the Amazing 9H, my screen was perfectly unharmed. My slim armor took a few deep knicks in the bezel and the Nillkin cracked but the phone is perfect. Anyone on the fence about tempered glass, don't hesitate. Get it and install immediately. There is no way in hell a normal film protector would've saved my phone from sure disaster. Also the Nillkin has a film layer which keeps the shattered glass intact and easy to peel off. I really super highly recommend the Nillkin Amazing 9H tempered glass.

I have one but haven't put it on yet. How was the application? Bubbles dirt? Any dirt form around it? I'm in the construction business so I'm always in a dirty environment. P.s. pretty sure this should be in general.

Easy mate. Do it in a steamy bathroom. Get it on lightly and you have a little play to straighten it up. When happy press it down fully. I found it easier then plastic protectors.

Man, i use a TPU cover and an "Invisible Shield", both bought at ebay.
The TPU cover helps to prevent damage to the device as a whole while the Invisible shield protects effectively the phone screen (is made of a military material).
You can find those at the links below:
TPU Case: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250753752797&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Screen Protector: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220728211467&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Responding to your question: Yes! Definitely i think it's a best idea to have a cover and a screen shield, because otherwise your device will have a few scratches as the time goes by, even if you don't drop it accidentally. (IMO)
I have a protector on the back plastic cover but NO protector on the screen. I never use phone case. I always put the phone in my pants or jacket pocket. 3 months on & the screen is still like new.
Right now I'm using front and back but I want to take the front off just because the edge of the sheild getscrap on itand it annoys me

I roll au naturale.
Every time I get a new phone I usually end up spending over $60 on cases and screen protectors at the store, and within hours I just want to take them off.
So, this time... bareback.
No scratches on the screen, minor scuffs and micro scratches on back, one small indent on bezel. Dropped once onto linoleum.. no signs of damage.
Does the xtreme guard fit perfectly on the phone? I bought a 5 pack of some others on ebay, and they don't lay down all the way on the top and bottom of the phone. Because of the curve I'm guessing.
Also, is it a dry application?
On topic - I bought the phone last week and havent been using a screen protector. When I'm not using it it goes back into my belt holster case.

Ditto and 2 months here. Not a scratch on the phone. There is a scuff on the lip around the edge from when I slipped on ice and the phone went flying and landed screen down.
The my phone is naked, always Don't have one scratch or issues with dust etc.
Never use any covers or anyting. And its always like new, just dont put your phone and keys in the same pocket ant it'll be scratchless

Same here. No screen protector, no case!!!!!!
Really? I want to go naked but I'm too scared to. It feels like its going to slip out of my hands. But none of the cases do the phone justice. It just looks so nice naked.
And the screen protector...I have one and its annoying cuz it gets oily and smudges all over. But this phone is my baby and I don't want to scratch it.

not sure whether to stay naked or cover up ;-)
Had my NS for a few weeks (and lovin' it)
First I bought a leather flip case, then thought . . . why cover up such a sexy looking phone?
then after another week I got worried again and ordered a "S" curved gel case (that looks just as good as the phone), along with a car connector and a screen protector . . .
then struggled to get the case on ! (it's not gel it's plastic) and so stiff I'm scared I might break the screen whilst pushing the phone into it
and I always seem to get specks of fluff and little hairs under the screen protectors, so I haven't put that on yet
but so far my NS screen and body has remained scratch-free and shiny

It's a phone, do you want to preserve it perfectly for the next 2 years so that the person you sell it to benefits while you suffer with a bulky case and crappy screen protector? I've dropped mine on the bathroom tile screen down and there was no damage to the screen (some slighty scuff on the plastic). You're meant to use these things, not baby them, it's a TOOL. You'll get a new one in 1-2 years (less if you're like me lol).
Using ghost armor (invisible shield) on the screen otherwise its bareback. Keep it now in a plastic belt clip that newly came out on eBay. Funny thing...Sprint don't even have the holster for this new phone

Ctai. Wow. I always looked at nexus S as my phone (captivate) on steroids...unbelievable how they dont have g glass OR external sd. Back to topic...DEFINITELY use a quality screen protector. Otterbox commuter cases are usually pretty good looking and come with screen protectors. I have a cappy with g glass and would NEVER sport it without the proper profilactics.

I, personally, will NEVER use a screen protector. When I see friends of mine with a screen protector on their phone, it looks so ugly!
It might not be Gorilla Glass (although I doubt Gorilla Glass is more scratch resistant than 'normal' glass), but it does have this curve in the screen, and I tell you: that helps a lot.

Screen Scratches

When I bought my phone,I ordered a full InvisibleShield from mobileden.co.uk for 20 pounds. It has been about 3 months and nothing arrived, they are not responding to emails and my screen has been scratched more that a lottery ticked in a retirement home...
Does anyone know a way to fix these,or maybe I can order another Invisibleshield that can cover these up,I cant find it in Montenegro,so how about a site with shipping?
If Im right, there should already be a factory fitted screen protector on the play. Try removing it, and try ordering off Amazon.co.uk for a new one.

I think there already is a screen protector preinstalled, i didn't noticited it. I think that's the reason why it's so hard to put another screen protector on it.

There's actually one under that, it's got a great fit to it and you can't even tell it's there. If you look where the buttons meet the glass you can see there's a film on the screen. It's not really a screen protector it's a film they put on to prevent the screen from shattering if you dropped your phone kind of like safety glass in your car windshield it will still break but it doesn't let the glass fly. The problem with it is it's super soft so it picks up a ton of scratches. I recommend removing it and if you want apply a real screen protector that won't pick up scratches. Like I said it isn't really a screen protector just a soft piece of thin vinyl that scratches like crazy. To get it off get a pin or tack and pick away at it by the search button and once you get it lifted a little you can just peal it off with no problem. The mineral glass underneath is pretty dang scratch resistant but once that crappy film is off you can apply a proper protector with ease. Hope that helps some

Thx,as soon as I get an InvisibleShield I will peel it off. Maybe I should sue mobileden for fraud?
Here is what it looks like when removing the factory vinyl. I had to use a thumb tack to get it started. I pushed down hard on it to get it started, and it did not harm the glass, but the vinyl scratches easily.
Edit: ack, the camera really captures the lint. I will say the colors are much more vibrant with that vinyl off. I should have taken a before and after pic of that.

I hate the Zagg "invisible" (quite the opposite) shields. The material is so uncomfortable I would take scratches on the screen instead every day of the week. Those shields are soft plastic of some sort and the fingers almost gets stuck on them while swiping (lots of friction). No smooth movement because of that and the image gets a lot more distorted than with the original screen protector on.
I really like the original screen protector as you can hardly tell it's there and it feels good on the finger. I regreted I ever removed mine and bought new original ones and am a happy camper again. They protect against speckles very well too which the Zagg ones doesn't do either. The Zagg shields are the most uncomfortable ones I have ever used and it's hard to get it on without getting bubbles and leftovers from the liquid that distorts the image even more.
I think it's the shatter proof one that's picking up most my scratches. Can somebody post a video of peeling it off? I see a very thin line with less than a millimeter gap between the phone edge and this protector. Can somebody confirm that it's the protector I'm looking at?

Recommended Screen Protectors?

I've seen a lot of talk about cases but not much on screen protectors (aside from the tempered glass ones). On my OG Droid I used a Zagg Invisible Shield that worked well but had a bad orange peel look to it. My GF's iPhone has a "Power Support" screen protector on it which is crystal clear and works well.
What is everybody using? Are the tempered glass protectors where it's at now?
I always have used sgp spigen screen protectors, think they are the best ones.

Has anyone ever rocked their phone without a screen protector? if so, did you screen get scratched up? Reason I ask is my Diztronic case for my Verizon G2 is great but it pushed up my Verizon screen protector (dry one from the store, which was working great). Am I going to ruin my screen without a screen protector? Does anyone have a Diztronic case and a screen protector that works well with it?

I've always gone back and forth using them or going naked about 50% of the time. Never scratched a screen till this one... one week into use there was a tiny one dead center. I think it was actually sorta caused by the flip case. Either the metal ring on it out something got sick between the flap and screen.

I ran my DNA completely naked. After a year it ended up having a few very fine scratches on the screen. Nothing horrible, but still there. I really like the feel of the bare glass, but may go back to a screen protector for my G2. I'm just not very good at installing them - maybe a glass one would be better... I don't know.

Looking closely at the edges of the screen protector on the phone, you will notice that the screen has about a 0.5mm radius all the way round it that is not sticking to the phone glass as a result of the glass curvature around all the phone screens edges.
I am having this same issue with my iloome flexible glass protector on my LG G2 as well sadly.
Without an external case that overlaps this edge I CANNOT recommend this glass screen protector as you run the fair risk of slicing yourself (i had to buy a gel case with overlap to mitigate this very real issue) or worse yet having a piece of glass screen protector break off in your skin because the glass screen protector is so thin and the edge is exposed around all the edges of the screen protector...

Screen Protectors

What are the best options for screen protectors right now? Has anyone tried the spigen ultra crystal for the g2, i have had good experiences with them in the past. I know that with my galaxy nexus the glass was curved so much that a normal screen protector couldn't fit across the entire screen and the wet apply screen protectors were a mess and looked horrible. Does the g2 have the same problem?
I was wondering the same thing. Anyone bought a screen protector they're happy with? Not a big fan of the wet application type
I used one of the wet application ones from Phantom Skinz (sp?) on my Nexus. It worked so well that I plan on ordering one for the G2.
I actually got the ones from T-Mobile and was quite surprised on how much I like them! They are a dry application, very easy to install, not sticky at all (feel very much like the natural surface before the screen protector), and what I like most...very, very clear and fingerprint and smudge resistant. The only downside is they are a little bit more than I usually spend on screen protectors, $17 for 2.

Wow that seems like a good sign, the best screen protector is one that you can't tell is on the phone. I'm curious, how much of the screen does it cover and do you have any pictures of it installed that you could share?
I got the only one that AT&T stocked. It's a glossy as opposed to an anti glare but the fit and finish is spot on and I can't even tell it's there. Very pleased.
/except for the glossy part
I picked up a few screen protectors from xtreemguard .com. pretty much the same thing as best skins ever. Used code fall80 for 80 percent off. Order was 3 bucks for shipping and two screen. Shipping was fast. Not amazing but definitely the best under $10.
I'm currently rocking the XOSkins wet application screen protector and like it so far.

I have the iloome flex tempered glass screen protector on order so I picked up the Supershieldz off ebay (6 for $5 shipped) as a hold over. They're dry application, fit well, and have decent clarity. Probably not terribly different from most plastic films, but man it hazes up from fingerprints like nothing else. I cleaned it off today with rubbing alcohol and it has already picked up some mild scratches. Guess you cant expect too much for less than a buck per screen protector.

I use the Spigen Ultra Crystal. My third phone whith them. Would not use any other. It actually seems just a tad small but I guess that leaves room for a case. It leaves about an 1/8 of an inch around the sides.
I use to pay the big money for ZAGG. When I bought my G2 (9/12) there wasn't anyone that had screen protectors, so I bought the 3 pack from VZW. I still have the first one on, and no issues. Paid like 10 bucks. It works fine for me.

Enough with thin glass protectors

I am one of those who has removed the useless plastic screen protector, to apply one of those thin glass protectors. Three times... All of them somehow splinter on the long edge. After all 0,2mm may seem thin, but they are enough to create a small step, and if the phone hits a ring, a key or anything sharp, the glass breaks.
My question is: what happens if I use the phone with no protection? Actually all the phones I have had in the past never had an additional protection on the screen.

I ordered a Nillkin Amazin H screen protector and it's been awesome since day one! It's silky smooth and ridiculously durable (I tried scratching it with a steak knife and it did nothing!) but the only drawback is the coating on it as it gets kinda filmy every now and again but a quick buff with a dry washcloth or similar and it's great! I would totally recommend the Nillkin to any Z1 owner!!

I would totally recommend the Nillkin to any Z1 owner!!

same here, been using NILKIN and no problem/s encountered
Nillkin, all the way! Same here, have been using a Nillkin and no problems so far, no chipping, no scratches, it just works nicely.

Any particular place you guys get them from? Took my flip cover off to replace the sim, and man did I miss the thinness! I got a flip to avoid a screen protector but if you guys say nillkin is good, I'll give it a crack just to get the beauty back.

I've ordered a few different cases and the Nillkin Amazing H from this site. Prices are awesome and delivery can take a few weeks though!
