Hasn't this already been discussed in the update thread? Flash the stock ATT JB, then accept the update.

If you ever rooted, ran a custom recovery, chances are you tweaked something under /system that's causing it to fail. Flash stock recovery and stock system then take the OTA.
Now, with my old Atrix HD, the OTA took just fine with a rooted system and Philz CWM, on my new Atrix HD, I had to be using stock recovery and unrooted...odd.

The OTA update should install even without an ATT SIM card in the phone. I have a Bell Atrix HD in Canada with an unlocked bootloader. I installed the stock JB ATT ROM, ran the update, installed a customer recovery, and went back to using a custom ROM.

Try using Myth Tools to flash back to stock, take the update, install a custom recovery, and flash a KK ROM.

A few weeks ago I decided to root my phone. I managed to get S-Off but didn't get past that because I couldn't install Clockwork. Today the official OTA 2.3 update became available and when I press install, it shuts down and restarts but my phone gets stuck on the startup white screen with the green HTC logo in the middle.
I tried removing battery and SIM and trying again but didn't work. When I try to do a hard reset the same problem white screen happens after phone shuts down and restarts. I'm incredibly (no pun intended) frustrated as I was really looking forward to getting this update. Other than this the phone works normally when I take out the battery and turn on again. The phone was originally locked to bell but I unlocked to work with Fido. Please help!!! Thank you!!!
I'm not a real expert but I would try installing clockwork again. Try the 4ext version found in the android development forum. You can get into recovery right?
I wasn't able to install Clockwork so I don't even have that. I can get into hboot by volume down+power but when I press factory reset phone shuts off and restarts then gets stuck on white startup screen with htc logo. The same thing happens when I try to install the OTA update.

The OTA update will not install if your phone doesn't have the standard HTC recovery on it. The fact that you have tried to instll ClockworkMod must have left your recovery image in bad state. Sounds like you need to use the 'fastboot flash recovery' command to flash good recovery image.
If i have S-Off, and clockwork recovery installed, but stock rom, i cant install the 2.3 OTA update?
Um what? Bell didn't release their 2.3 update... How did you get that? Can you please upload the RUU because I am stuck at bootloader until Bell releases their 2.3 update.

No, the OTA will not install if you have ClockworkMod recovery in place. Since you are S-OFF, you can flash the original HTC recovery to replace ClockworkMod and then the OTA should work.

Telstra ROM showing update available to ICS

Anyone else getting this?
My phone is on the standard Telstra ICS ROM, however is S-off and unlocked... and has recovery if I update will this bork my phone?
Download Here https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_yipCshKsIQa3B6bHl6UnVDMGs 58.8MB
I upgraded to this about 2 days ago, admittedly on a stock Velocity....rumblings seem to say that this is a radio fix from Telstra only at this stage (and an unsuccessful one at that)
Ah righto, I attempted applying it but it just made my phone display a belly up android with a hazard sign sticking our of its belly, I'm uploading the file now for people to play with should be done soon
I did the upgrade on stock too, any idea what it was supposed to fix? I've yet to notice any differences, not that I noticed any problems before...

I'm not sure that's it. The patent in my understanding is about apps/contacts/other stuff showing up in the universal search, which mine still does after the update.
Update fails. any hints welcome
I have a Velocity with the OTA 4.0.3 ICS update. When I bought it I tried to root it using hansoon2000s 1 in all kit. I did unlock the bootloader, but attempts to gain root access failed so at that time I relocked the bootloader and just forgot about it.
When I try to install the 3.44.841.3 update, the phone shuts down then reboots to the FASTBOOT menu which gives me the option of
BOOTLOADER,
REBOOT,
REBOOT BOOTLOADER or
POWER DOWN
and it shows at the top *RELOCKED*.
If I select BOOTLOADER I go to the HBOOT menu and I can see
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
I have limited skills but I am guessing if I got to the recovery menu I would be able to choose a zip file to run and I could point it at the OTA zipfile which it downloaded, but when I go to recovery it just goes back to the FASTBOOT menu.
Any ideas which course of action I should take. Because it's not rooted I don't have a good backup of app data so I'd really prefer not to take any action which is going to set the phone back to Factory unless I am fairly certain of the outcome. I'm still not even sure that I need to apply this update because I have no issues with my phone (but just for the sake of the exercise lets presume I'm trying to load a Jellybean OTA update, which is something I definitely would want to do even if I reset the phone).
Ideas or suggestions ?
Bro use all in one to unlock bootloader from the menu your talking about select recovery then when it boots into a recovery you chose from the all in one use the volume to navigate to the zip file there's a prerooted gb one that I'm using then once you install it and phone reboots let the phone update to ics

Yeah same thing happened to me because of using a deodexed rom, but you can get it fixed pretty easily.
Only problem is I don't know how to get the update to work with the stock rom as i doesn't keep. I assume leigh kennedy knows how to apply the update to stock rom and then deodex, as he did it the for stock. Hope he does it for this too.

OTA update.
Hi I also have received the notification for an OTA update with a link to HTC.com for my Velocity 4G, But I am running "nightly Build 4" since it came out and it is running like a dream. I also got the error msg with Mr android, belly open and a triangle warning sign. Not surprised tho. However I am thirsty still and ofc with Jelly Bean bouncing in I am tempted to flash the new ROM when it is avail.. Any ideas when it will be? :fingers-crossed:
How can I flash this OTA manually?
My Velocity is stock non rooted an locked.
The phone is stuck at the HTC screen so really only have access to fastboot...
Also, does anyone have the stock build.prop for the velocity 4g?

If you have access to fastboot, try running the RUU while connected in fastboot (drivers must be installed). This will put the phone back to a factory state, then you can check for and install the OTA

How is one supposed to get out of a bootloop while loaded in a slot on safestrap? It only loops and never gives me a chance to load SS.
I recently took the update and was able to retain root. I am one of the few that it went from .51 to .54 and said failed update. luckily I was able to flash back to the original software and start over. So now for the time being I'll be staying with the ability to fxz back to stock and forgo the camera update.
So the real question is, how do you get out of a bootloop when your on a safestrap slot and you don't have the ability to flash back to stock because you took the update? @Hashcode

I'm assuming your non rooted motox sig is not accurate anymore lol. But I would take your question to rootzwiki. That seems to be where hashcode is doing his discussion and where others are posting questions who are in bootloops etc. You will probably get a better response. But if you can get to fastboot you should be able to flash recovery back on there and sort it out I think. But i haven't been keeping up with SS too much. I think i read some stuff over there about that though.

I need some help. My phone is capable of booting into fastboot mode, but doesn't seem to be able to boot normally.
I am seeing the android laying on it's side with a red triangle with an exclamation point, this keeps blinking on and off. I've tried using rsdlite as well as the flash back to stock options in the moto-x toolkit and nothing is working. I've also cleared the cache and userdata folders but nothing has worked.
Is there a way to fix this or will I need to send my phone back to motorola for a repair?

Well they're getting it back for a repair, I didn't pay 399 for a developer edition phone just to have a dang paperweight because they sent me an incompatible OTA update.

They didn't send you a incompatible boot loader, the ota's always come with a new boot loader, so what I like to know is, what version is your boot loader , its Motorola's fault that you accepted the ota while having a custom recovery, had you read my thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639102
You wouldn't have any issues.
If you don't want my help, thats fine by me, getting tired of this ota crap anyways

Clearly you don't really want us to help or you would have answered the previous posters question. You also gave no details into if you had rooted the phone or unlocked the bootloader.
From the bootloader screen select the "factory" option.
I may agree with the op here. Moto supplied me with a 4.4 version for my dev ed. If I take an update, have an issue and moto still only provides 4.4 sbf what a I supposed to do?
However, OP you do need to supply more information as we can only speculate as to what your issue is.

However I purchased a Dev Ed phone. Motorola supplied me with a recovery firmware to restore my device to stock. I therefore expect the Factory supplied firmware to not brick my phone. If Motorola makes changes in an update that would cause previous versions of their software to damage phones when used as supplied Motorola needs to bear some of the responsibility. They can build a failsafe into the update that would prevent an attempt of a downgrade, supply upgrades that can safely be downgraded, add some kind of notification or not market "Dev Ed" phones for mass consumption.

But the update clearly and concisely says, YOU CANNOT roll back to a previous firmware after applying said update.
Onus is on the user at that point.
I have version 30.B2 according to the fastboot.
and I had originally flashed my phone with TWRP custom recovery and had rooted my phone. I used rsdlite to flash back to the current stock version then when after setting up wireless, etc. on my phone I checked for the OTA and it said that there was a new version that fixed battery issues, etc. so I downloaded it, then restarted. after it finished flashing and rebooted again is when the flashing android red triangle error message started happening. I tried to flash back to the previous stock version, and even tried re-flashing twrp custom recovery so I could go in and do a factory wipe and clear dalvik and cache, and data but nothing worked.

I tried again to select the factory option in fastboot and unlike the previous times I had tried, this time seems to have fixed it. It booted up into Android OS. has anyone tried it with the google play edition of the moto-g? I'm wondering if there is a way to convert from a regular retail rom over to a GPE rom for the moto-x after google starts selling it. I know you have fixed this now, but if you see the android with the red triangle and ! use the key combination pwr & up vol. That gets you into stock recovery and from there you should be able to boot up.
Okay so to start I followed this Tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120 all the way through and my phone was rooted and I was happy. One day I tried to install TWRP since this is what I used on my Galaxy s3 before this phone. It got stuck on on a boot loop. I eventually tried flashing every stock ROM which did not fix the problem because ODIN would fail when trying to flash. Eventually I tried flashing the "G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel" supplied in the tutorial. My phone magically booted up and all my APPS and stuff was the same as I left it and it was still rooted. I decided not to mess with it anymore. This happened about a month ago.
Today, my phone had a notification saying that there was an update and I tapped remind me later. Eventually, I installed Titanium Back up to force closed the AT&T Software Update app the phone came with. Then. it automatically updated and eventually got stuck into the boot loop again. No problem, I fixed this before. What I noticed from the first time was that I had a screen that said "Secure Fail: Recovery. System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help" Once I flashed the stock kernel from the tutorial I never checked to see if the recover menu was there.
So right now I have my phone working and its rooted. I installed the "Phone Info" app and it says Bootloader Version:G900AUCU2ANG3. Eventually, my phone will try to update itself again and it will fail causing it to boot loop. I am not sure on what to do. Is there a way for me to have my recovery menu back? I just want to have the option in the future to revert everything back to normal in case I sell it or feel like having the newest OS. Also it would be cool to have a recovery menu on my phone again.
I know this was long but I needed to solve this problem before it gets out of hand in the future. Also I am pretty sure others have followed the tutorial and might have had the idea to update the OS or something else and had a problem similar to mine.
Thank You Very Much.

So you're still rooted?
And if so using titanium backup just freeze the ATT update app I forget what it's called exactly but you'll know it when you see it and that'll stop your device from trying to automatically trying to update

Yeah I'm still rooted and I found out about the freeze app option but do you know about the problem where I don't even have a recovery menu?

You need to download the safe strap recovery menu. That is for rooted phones with locked bootloaders.

Thank You very much I was able to install the Safe strap Recovery and am now backing it up. Hopefully my last question Is there a way to update in the future for example if I wanted to have the OTA firmwares from AT&T without root in case I were to sell the phone?
Thank you guys for the answers.

I've tried this in the past when my phone was stuck in bootloop, But it always failed since I have a different baseband or boatloader. Would you know which stock ROM I have to use because I tried many and had no luck in the past?

Wait, the thread is for Galaxy s5 Active. Will the G870AUCU1ANE4_Full_Odin.tar file work on my Galaxy s5 AT&T? Just making sure.
