[Q] Unable to OTA update after HTCDev Bootloader Unlock - Sprint HTC One (M7)

It's been awhile since I've messed with ROMs, and much has changed. I think I might have bit off more than I can chew, but hopefully it's a quick fix. I've been trying to scan for solutions, but so far no luck.
About a week ago I decided I was tired of avoiding apps that had crazy permissions and decided to get root on my phone so I could use AppOpps. I went through the HTCDev route and unlocked the bootloader. I got stuck when firewater, temproot & Weaksauce wouldn't work.
So, I relocked the bootloader (shows **relocked**) and figured I'd wait until someone pushed an updated tool. Got an OTA notice, and now I can't update the software. The update fails about 1/3 of the way through, going from green circled arrows to red triangled exclamation.
I've tried using fastboot to push the OTA ROM, but have had no success. I can flash the newest firmware successfully (as noted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2766604), but still no joy on the OEM ROM.
Do I really have to go to the trouble of flashing older firmware, downgrading the HBoot and ROM to an older version, etc.. to get up and running with a **locked** phone that will get OTA update?
Such a PITA to get control over my data/permissions.
Thanks in advance for help.

So just RUU and call it a day

Weaksauce does not work on the Sprint variants.
I would give Firewater another shot as s-off will save you headaches like this down the road. I would also suggest doing it before you update HTC has a way of making thing harder for us with every OTA.
If your phone is inoperable at the moment use this guide to get up and running.

At the moment, all I can find is an older RUU, not the latest/greatest.
I've found a Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_4.06.651.4_RUU download, but my phone is reporting Software version 4.06.651.9
Would this be close enough?

So far, the phone seems to be working fine, other than deleting my Amazon saved games
If I run the RUU as suggested: Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_4.06.651.4_RUU, will I still be in a good position to try firewater again?

That RUU won't work it's older then the software you are currently on.
Give firewater a try without using weaksauce

You are correct, the RUU did not work. It failed completely on Windows 8.1 x64, so I ran in on Windows 7 x64, and it stopped at about 4%. The phone screen was black with the HTC logo and it just stayed like that for over an hour (I took the dog for a walk).
The Boot reports the following:

HBOOT-1.57.0000

OS-5.03.651.3
eMMC-boot 2048MB
May 15 2014, 16:31:22.0
Once the phone is booted up, the Settings->About reports the following:
Software version: 4.06.651.9
Android 4.4.2
HTC Sense 5.5
Can an OTA flash the firmware and die before updating the software?
Do I need to flash the firmware to match the reported software in the system?

I've never personally did an OTA so not sure.
If you use the guide I posted and use the 5.03.651.3 s-on firmware and rom it will be just like taking the OTA

OK, it took a little bit of research, because you probably assume most folks already know how to do this, but I got through your tutorial. Getting the latest TWRP was a bit confusing. At first I thought I had to have the TWRP app from the Google Play Store, which requires root, but then I found the TWRP page pointing to GooManager which automatically found the latest file and installed.
After that, it took a minute to figure out I had to go into HBOOT and select recovery to get the TWRP tool. I thought I was going to be using an Android utility to accomplish this (I guess I mean to say an app from the play store, not a BIOS like utility).
Lastly, for some reason the Android MyHTC driver died, so I had to manually remove and re-install. Re-running HTC Sync Manager install did not help. Once I got that figured out, I was able to adb push the file to the SDCard (Too bad one can't just drag and drop, but I'm guessing MTP dies with the flash?) and then load it from TWRP.
At the moment, I'm happy. I have the newer software and plenty to play with. I will give Firewater a try again, but I'm guessing it will be more difficult with the newest firmware/ROM?
I started with this guide a few days ago, but didn't push forward when I couldn't figure out the TWRP information. It might help to update that part of the guide, unless you want to avoid too many noobs getting into trouble.
Thanks for your help, and pointing me back in the right direction so quickly.

[Q] Flashed custom kernel on Stock rom..

So, with all the excitement of just getting my HTC one on saturday, I got down to business today doing some rooting. This is not my first htc device, i owned the evo 4g before.
With that said, What I did was have a rooted stock rom. I never flashed a new rom to the phone at all. I was trying to do the HTC logo button hack, I downloaded the kernel and flashed away. well, now the problem is the phone will start up and get to where the lock screen should be, It will show the status bar at the top and thats it, hangs for about 20 seconds and then restarts
It constantly does this... I have just updated the sprint software maybe 1.31 something? it was OTA I did before rooting.
I have tried to sideload a rooted odexed stock rom and have not had any success. I also tried running the sprint RUU but it was for 1.29, so it got almost to the end and told me it couldnt do it.
I am working from a mac, but have access to PC if needed. I am using clockwork mod recovery and can still get into it. just stuck on where to go from here..
All help is appreciated, ive spent the last 7 hours trying to fix this problem!
Guys, I am without a phone until this issue is fixed, any and all help is appreciated!!!

Do you have a rom downloaded on your phone? Did you make nandroid? If yes just restore. Do you have otg cable? If yes, download a rom. Do full wipe, cache, dalvik cache, data, and system. Try flashing the rom from otg. What kernel did you flash?
Sent from my lair.
The guy who made the htc one logo hack made a kernel that he released, I flashed that on top of the stock sprint rom. I had a nandroid, but it got wiped. I do not have an OTG cable. I have tried to sideload various roms and I can get it to boot, but I get no cell signal, sometimes i get the error that the system is not responding and i have the option to wait or kill.
I have gotten into the baseband settings and see that I do not have a baseband in there, maybe thats the issue? Also I just took the 1.31 ota update, I am getting an error using the sprint RUU about the boot loader not being correct version. from the fastboot screen I have the following
perhaps bad boot.img??

A flashed kernel will overwrite your boot.img, so that really shouldn't be it. An RUU requires your bootloader be locked though, which is probably part of your issue.

It keeps rebooting because of the system not responding, not getting any cell service at all

problem with that though, I do not see a windows executable from there. the other issue is im using a mac, as far as i know everything works the same when it comes to adb and fastboot.
How would I flash a zip file if I cannot access my recovery? for instance how do I push the file to my device? when i relock the phone, and try to enter recovery, i get routed right back to bootloader
Figured out the issue, turned out that the problem came from firmware being absent... I was able to reflash the firmware and away it went, able to get into the phone now and do what i please!
Thanks for all help from everyone!!!

I tried using a bunch of tools (All in one toolkit, old and new and others)
However I'm now rooted, With S-ON and most ROMS I try to flash fail in TWRP

OTA_M7_UL_JB43_SENSE55_MR_Vodafone_UK_3.63.16
OTA_M7_UL_JB_50_Vodafone_UK_1.29.161.11-1.28.161
First file does the same as quoted above
Second file gets stuck on "Running bug_fix1 tool then eventuall does the same as above.
Am I flashing the wrong files or something?
CM11 for M7UL is currently the only ROM i can get working...
Any help is appriciated I'm desperate at this point I've spent hours trying to make this work.
I think these are failing because i need to edit the CID or MID or whatever it is but I cant do that whilst its S-ON
Need to S-OFF! Told I cant do that with tools unless I'm stock.

Your firmware version is missing, I recommend you get S-Off to be able to freely update/downgrade firmware.
To get S-Off, use http://rumrunner.us/
You'll most likely need a stock Sense ROM; since you're on hboot 1.54, firmware should be 2.24.xxx.x, so either find a compatible custom ROM, or use a Guru Stock ROM from here: http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/stock-rom-downloads/
(use a 2.24.xxx.x one, and select root, but unselect stock recovery)
if you also need a unsecure kernel, use the appropriate version from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233665

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't change from S-OFF to S-ON well... not intentionally atleast!
Tried running Rumrunner before but it wouldn't work however I wasn't using a stock Rom so I'll get on that now.
Using the latest TWRP I believe.

"Latest" is always a bit vague, could refer to 2.6.3.0 or 2.6.3.3 or 2.6.3.4, depending where you look, eg:

I'm running 2.6.3.4
Just thought I'd give you a run down should any future forum members need to know how I finally achieved this.
I followed NKK71's advice.
I downloaded the Voda Rom from http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/stock-rom-downloads/
Flashed that and then attempted to use the HTC One Toolkit V2.0
Do you think I could get the drivers working in Windows 8? Not a chance.
Would detect it when it was in its normal boot state but when in Fastboot it would always pick it up as an unrecognised device.
After a couple of hours of removing drivers, usbdeview or whatever its called and removing stuff in t here I gave up with Windows 8 (Sorry if your looking for this) I just couldn't get it to work.
I broke out my trusty Linux laptop downloaded ADB and Fastboot and attempted Rumrunner on that.
Failed, 64bit Linux and 32bit Libs required...
Searched for about an hour or two looking what libs are required finally came across the Libs required.
For everyones information it requires "ia32-libs" however on Debian Wheezy I just couldn't get them to download they were a held package and no matter how I tried I couldn't unhold them.
I eventually downloaded 32bit Ubuntu and put it onto a usb pen.
Booted from that, Ran rumrunner and the first time it failed and told me that the phone didn't have root.
Tried it again and after 5 or so minutes it gave me the same error message. I went through the whole process of trying to re-root the phone before I realised that on the phone a SUPERSU window was popping up but wasn't visible and because I wasn't granting root rumrunner couldn't complete its work.
So anyway after wasting another hour I ran rumrunner again, realised this supersu issue accepted and rumrunner completed.
Phone is now S-OFF
Rooted
SuperCID 11111111
Updated the Firmware to the latest version 4.****
TWRP 2.6.3.3 (4 kept crashing on me)
Attempted to install MIUI. Failed again.
Do I need to change the MID too?
Its the same error message as before, So atleast I've re-rooted, altered the CID, updated the firmware and S-Off'd
It does say M7 when it trys to install but I'm M7UL (Or atleast I think I am.)
Any help is appreciated.

[Q] Help not sure what I did

So lets start out with I was using Beanstalk and really enjoyed it till my internet was malfunctioning. So I was checking out how to do a PLR update and noticed that the version I had didn't support it. So in turn I decided to look for a rom that had the Sense, so I chose the Viper rom. I went through the the CWM to load it and it wouldn't work (multiply tries.) I then tried using an older version of TWRP, I think 2.6, and it was working but then it would fail at status 7. I did some research and there were a few posts that mentioned to use the newest version. So I downloaded it, it gets as far as installing the rom and I still get the status 7 failure. So then the phone would only boot into the bootloader, so I reinstalled TWRP, it worked but wont load the rom. I reinstall the rom and I get as far as the bootloader again and need to reinstall TWRP. Now my phone is locked in the bootloader, it says at the top:

Yes I do know that when I did the previous rom it will always say tampered but I don't know why it is relocked and S-ON. It should have been unlocked and s-off. So I am not sure what I need to do. I was wondering if anyone could help. By the way I was using the One In All Kit v3.1 program off my computer to help me with all of my roms flashing.

your phone is M7_WLV variant which means its not a gsm variant (M7_UL or M7_U) so you must use recoveries and roms specifically for your phone variant, M7_WLV
bootloader doesnt lock back by itself, so you probably did by mistake, same for s-on/s-off.
learn how to use adb and fastboot and get rid of this toolkit. always better to use adb and fastboot directly from the terminal
then
unlock bootloader
flash the correct recovery for your phone variant
flash a compatible rom for your phone variant
here is the coorect forum for your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one

[Q] Updating to Lollipop with CWRM.

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, I have done lots of searching, and have failed miserably. A few months ago I attempted to root my HTC one but was unsuccessful. Some root checkers said it was rooted, while others said it was not, including Titanium Backup and Airdroid. I received a notification that there is an update on my phone, but I'm unsure if I should try it, considering I'm using CWM recovery. When I boot my phone holding the volume down button and pressing the power button, it says: "**TAMPERED ** *** UNLOCKED*** M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RH HBOOT-1.57.0000 RADIO-4T.28.3218.04 OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909 OS-6.10.531.10 eMMC-boot 2048MB DEC 15 2014, 17:32:16.0000"
I tried to do the OTA update, which failed, I'm assuming because CWRM is installed. I did some searching and found an RUU tool, for lollipop which didn't work, giving me a 155 error. After doing some searching, I believe it was because my bootloader is unlocked. I also tried another RUU tool to try and get my phone back to factory status, I believe it was "RUU_M7_UL_K443_SENSE60_MR_TMOUS_6.10.531.10_Radio_4T.28.3218.04_10.33E.1718.01L_release_405711_signed_2(1)" which also failed.
After doing some searching, I found a tool called Revone, which I pushed to my phone and attempted to follow these - http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...actory-settings-for-warranty-repairs-0149204/ instructions, although it gave me an error saying "Failed to open framebuffer device". Long story short, my phone is still saying Unlocked and tampered, with S-ON..
Considering the fact that my phone was never truly rooted, should I attempt to root my phone completely, then run try the revone method again? Do I need to lock my bootloader to complete the RUU process? At this point I don't care if my phone is rooted or not. I just want to upgrade to lollipop. Any help to lock my bootloader, or remove the custom recovery, or just get lollipop loaded would be greatly appreciated. I figured I could simply download the ROM for lollipop and push it to my phone, but I'd rather have it back to stock, so I can attempt the rooting process again, and have a rooted copy of Lollipop. Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions!

I did some searching and found an RUU tool, for lollipop which didn't work, giving me a 155 error. that RUU ==== 6.10.531.10 ====== should work, just relock your bootloader and try and run again with your phone already in fastbootUSB mode, if it errors, please post the error code.

Firs things first, revone will not work on your current bootloader version. Revone only works for hboot 1.44. The only method that will work for you to achieve S-OFF is sunshine, and this costs $25. There are no other current methods that work
The ERROR 155 happens when you are trying to install the wrong RUU for your phone. Can you post a fastboot gatvar all please and remove your serial no and IMEI?
You cannot flash an OTA via custom recovery, it needs to be stock recovery. I think this might be your version here >> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95864024717072433
You could try flashing the recovery through fastboot which should give you stock ROM and try the OTA again
Bear in mind tho, if you do update to lollipop now and you have a bootloader which is RELOCKED and TAMPERED there are currently no ways to achieve S OFF at present to reset the status of the bootloader to LOCKED and remove the TAMPERED message. So if you needed your phone repaired under warranty this would be very difficult
I would suggest getting S OFF anyway
**EDIT** I would check with http://theroot.ninja/ to see if it will work on a later hboot i.e. 1.61 - I think you could achieve it, if you wanted/needed to, using a 4.4.3 stock ROM. But see what you think yourself

use this RUU http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-t-mobile/news/
again relock your phone, use the manual update instructions, locked/re-locked bootloader required.
to lock the bootloader you will need to know how to use fastboot commands ??? do you ???
simple command "fastboot oem lock" without quotes, then do "fastboot reboot-bootloader" for changes to take effect, it should now say ***TAMPERED*** ***RELOCKED***, run the RUU.
This worked! Thank you so much!! The only reason I wanted to root my phone was to use Airdroid and Whatsapp, to message from my computer, turns out they have a new feature which doesn't require root, so I'm all done!! Thank you so much for your help!

if you do want to root now you've updated, its very easy, just unlock your bootloader again at HTC Dev, flash TWRP recovery 2.8.5.0 from here: http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/m7/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-m7.img
once done, put this zip on your internal storage and flash it from twrp recovery: http://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU
reboot your phone when flashed, open supersu from the app drawer and update the binary if required, when asked, select TWRP method not normal.
anytime you want to return to full stock again, like to receive newer updates, just flash the RUU again as per my last post instructions.

Can't get back to stock. Computer won't recognize phone now.

So my current setup is this:
Tampered
Relocked
SecurityWarning
M7_MLS PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT 1.57.0000
Radio 1.01.20.0904_2
Open DSPv32.120.274.0909
OS-3.04.651.2o (the little o at the end of this line is highlighted)
eMMC-boot 2048MB
I'm just trying to get this phone back in working condition so I can give it to my daughter. But nothing I do is working. Currently phone boots into some old version, not sure what. But I can't do over the air updates because it just reboots into the bootloader and won't finish.
I've refreshed back to stock from the bootloader, and started down the path found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618524
to get S-OFF (NOTE: I'm on hboot 1.57 and it's for 1.55, but I have no idea how to get back to 1.55)
I got through the first step (tricking it into thinking it's on version 3.04.651.2) and now when I do an adb devices, it isn't seeing my phone anymore. Also, I seem to have lost recovery? I had TRWP on there and now if I try to select 'recovery' it just returns to the bootloader screen and won't go into recovery any more.
Help. It literally just want to wipe the thing and put something useable on it. Stock, rooted or not, whatever. If I try to update the software on the phone from within the phone settings, it reboots into the bootloader and gets stuck.
Thanks in advance!
Probably the easiest thing to do then is to flash the full firmware first. Then run the RUU. You probably can get by with just the RUU, but it sometimes errors out if the firmware is not flashed first. You can get the firmware and the RUU (along with basic instructions on how to use them) from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795856
