Thank you so much, but why do I keep giving vital stuff like that that never gets posted in Dev on XDA?
XDA isn't the only forum in the universe, lol. And I'm not big on redundancy so I post it on my preferred forum and refer people to it. Seems to be working okay, for the most part. A Google search will still get you there if the result isn't on XDA .

Sorry I'm a little noobish when it comes to Androids (trying to come over from an iPhone).
I understand rooting. But... Can you tell me advantages/disadvantages of all these ROMS? Do some have the latest radio firwmare and some don't? I thought I read I could also modify these ROMs as well. I would appreciate some insight. Thanks

You can do anything. If you read the forums you will learn a lot more than any 1 person here could ever teach you in one post. Happy reading.
P.s. posts like this are frowned upon around where when you could have searched.
ROMs are just modified versions of the standard firmware the developers that make them bundle certain apps with them and make some slight changes. IIRC they are all rooted.
I think the radio firmware can be updated seperatly as i downloaded the HTC radio directly from the HTC website.
There is a thread here that tries to chart the differences between builds (the name "rom" is kind of a misnomer).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517506
Also, for community ("hacked"/"rooted") builds, they generally don't include the radio. You would update the radio and bootloader separately. The official builds tend to include radio and or bootloader updates.
http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5692
This should help you out with any information on Firmwares, its alot better then a stupid chart.
Just do yourself a favor.. Do not Flash before you read the entire thread. Because you may find your new G1 is a brick.
If you want something or want to upgrade SPL or Recovery or Rom Make sure you competely read the thread you may find that other users that have previously flashed that particular item will give feedback.

that link also links to the same "stupid" chart. btw that chart is great for deciding which build suits your needs the best
I was sorta kindling.....
My thread has all the information and MORE. The chart is helpful but you can't get any helpful links with it. My thread has information/my thoughts/ and updates on how to find the newest firmware.

There are a bunch of radios... which one ie the best or which one should I pick? I believe that I'm on the latest one right now and my phone rarely goes to H and is usually 3G now.
Where can I even see all the radios? A link to some update.zip radios would be appreciated.
you can find downloads to all radio versions if you SEARCH and LOOK AROUND a bit... there is a sticky in the Development forum...

I've searched and not had any luck... I don't even know which version I should download hence why I started a thread.
Also the sticky only has 3 radios... I know there are more than that and it lists them as long form version codes rather than things like ERD79 which I've seen more often.
Thanks for the great help though. /sarcasm

Errr (sarcastic!!!).... There are only 3 radio versions (duhh!!!, u'd know if u read a bit)...
ERD79 - radio version 4.02.02.14
ERE27 - radio version 4.03.00.21_2
ERE36B, EPE54B, EPE68 & EPE76 - radio version 4.04.00.03_2
Which one works best u ask... reportedly 4.04.00.03_2 is the best... but you can try all out and see... no ROM is tied to any particular radio version...
Any reason why you want to flash a radio when you have no issues?
They all suck for me, though maybe where I live has bad coverage.
Running MyUI Euphoria, absolutely GREAT rom. I'm new to this stuff by the way. When I was at stock, I had no problem with AT&T signal (3g) or wifi anywhere, especially at home. Now, at home (only) I have either G or no bars at all. Cannot connect to wifi anywhere. I love this ROM, but if I have to change to another, I don't mind, but have no idea what would be better than this, or how can I fix this.
And, if I have to change ROMs, do I just flash the new one over this?
Thanks.
What have you tried to fix this? Have you researched your issue by searching? Tried different modems? Your question is not unique, there have been many threads on it, go through the stickies and see what you can find.

I haven't tried anything, hoping to be directed, like I said a noob with this stuff.
But I understand what you mean.
Here's another question, if you don't mind. The nightlies. Do I download those and install for an update, or do they have nothing to do with MyUI Euphoria? Also, when you install a nightly, does it (like any normal update) just write over what you have and install the updates, or do you install it as a new fresh rom?
Appreciate your patience with this lowly grasshopper.

I have no idea. Could you post a link to the ROM thread from Development? I'm not familiar with MyUI Euphoria as a ROM.
It seems like My UI runs has their own nightlies, unfortunately I lack a computer and 1 of the links appears dead other 2 are in French and my mobile browser is having a hard time translating it. Thing is there is no way to know unless you find the nightlies change log and see a commit on your specific issue. It seems to me though that it be easier to just check modems first... Just my 2 cents

I had to test around 10 different modems before finding one that worked on the ROM I am using.
Search for various different modems. With any luck you can find a post from some one in your area who already had good luck with a modem.
Google for "Captivate modem ics" (I can't post links yet...), first result is the one you want. Soggycashew.
Or the other link provided if its not ICS (I don't know anything about that ROM)
Also on the link they have a map with various results using different modems.

Hello everyone. This sure is a terific forum for android resources.
I have a i9000T on Android 2.2.1 and I'm planning to flash it to CM10 Jelly Bean when the next M series firmware is released. I'm comfortable with doing geeky things with computers but not so much on Android phones since I'm pretty new to it and hadn't been exposed to it that much. In the past so far I managed to root the I9000T with CMW to back it up and installed a commandline app on it.
I've done a lot of reading and research on the I9000 but I haven't gotten to any resources explaining how modems work or how one is compatible with another. I'm under the impression that after flashing to CM10 I might have to install the modem or a compatible modem for my i9000T to work. My current baseband shows UBJP9 which doesn't have a lot of useful hits on google. I've found the modem collection at this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870460) but couldn't find the exact match. (How come some on the list have only 3 digits?) My question is then how to figure which ones on the list are compatible with my device, and how to apply the file to the device?
On a side note, how do we decipher the baseband code and figure which other basebands are compatible with one another? The first 2 digits are country code, and the next 3 are modem codes?
If someone would help explain some of those questions or point me to resources to read about those things I greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I came from there initially, and wanted to ask in that thread but wasn't allowed to. I sort of not want to test the modems one by one because being a noob at androids usage I wouldn't be able to recognize if one is better than another. But reading that thread more closely I now know what the last 3 characters mean, although not all of it makes sense (for instance the P in my JP9 doesn't really map to a month).
I think the general tone one could get from that thread is more of like "try and see" and doesn't really answer my curiosities. Also from the discussions one would think that newer versions don't neccesarily mean better. I'm hoping to find more insight on what makes a firmware compatible with another, but the discussions there (or other sources I've come across) doesn't lead that way. The country code on my current modem is for Brazil but it is working in the US. That sort of suggests that the transmission bands the carrier operate on could be more important, and maybe some would suggest to go for modem firmwares in the country where the phone is actually being used. I was hoping to find discussions that tell us what all those firmware are, or what they do (i.e whether a firmware would make the phone work on one specific band or multiple bands, etc..) and things of that nature.

Thanks. So I'll flash to CM10, then flash the modem alone using one of the modem firmwares in the above thread? Is it possible to keep my current modem going from Froyo 2.2.1 to CM10 Jellybean? Ideally I'd like to keep my current modem in CM10 to see how well it works (if it works). Is the modem association separate from the OS, or does the OS already have a specific modem associated with it when the OS was put together? If the latter case, every time we flash CM10 with newer M or nightly builds we'll also need to flash the modem afterward again?
Thank everyone for your input so far. Sorry to throw all those questions out there, but I wish there's some kind of reference to how Androids work so we all can benefit from.
Hi,
I had many of the same questions as you. See my post at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1960693
I'll let you know what I find out and maybe you can do same.
-John
Going through all close to stock roms for the N9 and thought I would try N960FXXS2ARL4 from the following thread, that was a mistake. And I would have posted this in the above thread to make people aware, but its been closed. -
- https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga.../n960f-fd-rom-devbase-modified-final-t3903293
I ended up going down this rabbit hold because the N960FXXS2ARL3 listed in the OP failed to flash, I thought nothing of this and as I have seen this issue with many other roms in the past and figured it was just a corrupt file. So I wiped and proceeded to flash an earlier version of Alexandr's DevBase (based on Android 8.x) and it was at this point I start seeing the no-entry icon in-place of the signal meter.
According to the OP in that thread N960FXXS2ARL4 is supposed to be the lastest Rom/Bootloader for Android 8.1 and I thought I was safe to flash this rom via TWRP, as I had been specifically avoiding upgrading to any stock Android 9.x rom's due to the known issue of not being able to downgrade to either stock or custom Android 8.x roms. So I flashed Android 9.0 version of Alexanders Devbase and sure enough the signal meter is back, indicated that N960FXXS2ARL4 bootloader/rom from the Da-Boss thread for want of a better word f***ed something. Because even flashing the pure stock rom based on N960FXXS2ARL4 that this handset(SM-N960F) came with when I bought it will not get the signal meter to come back.
Can someone confirm if N960FXXS2ARL4 bootloader allow's backwards flashing? if yes what could have possible happened that's causing my issue?
Ok so to my chargrin after searching through Alexandr repo on androidfiles I see he had a version on his own thread that was newer than the one in Da-Boss thread. So currently I am trying various rom's to see if there is even a nats chance I can get this device back to 8.1 compliant.
plz dont post in the rom development section. post in the Q n A or general discussion sections.
also plz search about bootlaoder downgrades and revision number and modems and firmware files.
ud have seen that once you are on a revision, you cant downgrade to a lower one. BL rev is usualy 5 th character starting from the right. both your firmwares you point to are on rev 2. just check in system/software info. to know. moreover CP aka baseband aka modem dont always play nice when they arent in sync with a particular rom/base.
try this,
wipe everything > > flash latest csg5 bootloader > flash rom > flash latest csg2 modem and reboot for the first boot.
it should work properly.

I posted here because the thread with the ROM responsible for all my aggravation is in this section.
I didn't flash the modem to start with, just flashed the p.o.s. ROM from Da-Boss thread, which I can only assume tried to flash the bloody bootloader/modem which would be a feet in of itself as the flash in twrp failed. Also as I said previously this Note 9 came with N960FXXS2ARL4. Which is actually a newer version then the one in the Da-Boss thread, so flashing (or having the fail to flash) should not have caused the issue with the bootloader/modem it now has.
@mods, feel free to move this to another section, but can I request the download links in the Da-Boss thread be removed please -
As the thread is closed
It has been demonstrated here and in that thread that this ROM is badly broken.

Unless your saying that CSG5 Modem/Bootloader allow downgrading? if so got evidence of this...

I dont say you go for android 9.0 either.
if you dont flash latest bootloader and latest modem, you are unable to use android 8.1, I am using ASB1 oreo now.
you can downgrade BL and modem, but your modem wont work if you boot your ARL4.
thats why after rom is installed you have to flash latest modem for made it work.
I have reported the Da-BOSS thread requesting the download link be removed due to the rom being broken, so that other dont have to deal with the same aggravation I did.

The above suggestions/advice and resulted in a softbrick, where the phone would not boot. So now I am having to do what I didn't want to do and upgrade all the way to Android 9.0 just to get a working phone. To say I am unimpressed at this point is an understatement.
And to add insult to injury, I now no longer have the OEM unlock option in the dev options, for which there is no current work around.... happy ***ing days.
maybe @Da-BOSS should come and see what you went through and explain why originally you had issues and tell if it has anything to do with him requesting the rom thread to be closed.(if it was a known issue why not edit out rom links to save users from the problems...transparency is key...)
this situation reminds me of the broken twrp 3.3.1 thread from arteuse) ive asked it to be closed or at least edited to warn users about the issue with parsing scripts while flashing zip but i was told that as xda users, we should be aware that flashing what ever we find here is at or own risk. even if many have pointed out issues, they won't censure nor close anything.(mod told me this) funny how comments and posts are censured and deleted every day for foul language though....double standard maybe?
The ROM is no longer maintained and no longer supported by me so any issues you are having it surely not my fault especially if the thread are already closed due to Alexndrs already have the latest Oreo version which is ASB1 so... there's no need for ARL4 to be supported by me after ASB1 got released... why the duplication?
Why would you use something that its thread are closed? Even at the first page of the thread.. it will tell you that [Thread Closed] at the first sight ! so... it is good that you reported about the link! I didn't know that! it was taking space on my cloud drives for nothing
Edit:-
Removed the file from my drive! To prevent any new accidents from new people on xda.

I didn't say it was your fault in any of the thread's I have mentioned this specific issue, how ever in your thread a number of people mentioned having the same issue of the ROM not flashing correctly from twrp so imho you should/could have removed the link at that point. And I didn't know Alexandr's file repo was browseable untill after the fact, otherwise I would have never even looked at your thread.
Because I wanted de-bloated version of the rom already on the phone, grand atleast something good came of it and thank you for removing the link. I didnt think to email you directly about it mainly because the devs on this forum are on for the most part very busy individuals.
I gave up the fight with the Note9 in the end as I had to flash it to stock Android 9 which for me is a non-starter for the time being (no reliable xposed, so no Xprivacy), that and the CSG5 removes the OEM unlock option so no rooting and no twrp.

its been reported many many many times. I've had pm and posted thread comments to the dev.
dev only made a rant reply about it and never modiyed his op. since many people have had the issue and what's deceiving is they each report the problem and blame the rom( multiple report on ambasadii and light rom threads) because they don't realize its not the rom but twrp that's not flashing correctly the rom. anyways i think it's time to ask an mod to move this thread via PM or something.

Ok we are getting a bit off topic here but @ XDA mods, WTF like! Anyway this rings a bell so I take it the current consensus is to avoid 3.3.1.0 on all devices and use the previous version for the time being?
Im not, I sold the Note9 today. Android 9 is a non-starter for the time being (no reliable xposed, so no Xprivacy), that and the CSG5 removes the OEM unlock option so no rooting and no twrp. May get a s10 or s10e once we have a working & reliable magisk, twep and xposed.
