[Q] About Xperia SP - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone, So, i was about to buy 2 moto g's (1 for me and 1 for gf) But since she saw xperia sp led's she's in love with it and she really likes it, But i have some doubts if i should get it for us or not...
My question is: i did read alot that there is a serious touchscreen problem that plagues most Xperia sp, ghost touches, touch not responding.. problems like that
weak wifi signal, randomly rebooting, overheating for no causa..
Has this been fixed? what is the actual state about SP ? I don't care about it not beeing kit kat yet, i can just place a custom rom if needed
I just won't buy a phone for my girl knowing it'll probably give us more trouble than fun, thanks everyone.

The actual state for the Xperia SP in Android 4.3 Laggy, Buggy, por RAM Perfomanence , but in 4.1 .254 only have WiFi bug. i have cm11 oficial and have bugs in Led
I wish not bought my xperia SP. I wish buy moto g or iPhone 4s

Oh wow... Thanks alot, i guess this is a big no no, I'll just head to moto g along with my girl, thanks alot mate..

Moto G is a good phone but lacks of SD slot, and that makes the phone useless for me...
Now, Xperia SP NOT always is laggy and blablabla, mine have .201 (latest 4.3 update) stock, just instaled once when update was released and works perfect, no lag, no overheating, touch responding, good battery life, no RAM problem, just Wifi sometimes but that was always since 4.1...
Your or your GF has tried to repair or go to service center?

IF you don't upgrade to 4.3, you will have a decent phone. But you will need to root it to solve some issues.
I'm happy with my SP. wouldn't change it for nothing.

Root to solve issues like what?

And QBertoo, we don't have the phone yet, but since sp has so much problems we'll probably head to moto g despite it beeing weaker in terms of hardware but better in everything else.. sorry for double post

You can wait for the moto g LTE

Usually cleaning the screen from time to time solves that for me.

Wifi is good enough for me. Random reboots do happen every few weeks or so, but I'm using Xposed Framework and replaces lots of system apps so that may be the cause of it. Overheating hasn't been a problem for me, it gets hot when on mobile internet, but not very hot and all phones I have used do that.
The Xperia SP is a great phone, I think it is totally worth it and much better than the Moto G.
You could wait until Sony releases the next update this month to see if it fixes the problems.

[Q] [Xperia V] To buy or not to buy

Hi everyone,
For months I am eagerly waiting for the Xperia V to be released in France (it will be this week, with JB on board). But this morning I found a review from a quite serious blog (in French) and it sort of discouraged me :
- They had major 3G connectivity issues, which is a huge turn-off for me
- They say the screen is not that great after all (too yellow-ish, despite BRAVIAEngine 2)
- They found lots of non-uninstallable bloatware (Adobe Reader, McAfee, some games, etc.)
- They found lots of bugs (camera focus, SOD when using GPS and music player), despite the JB ROM !
Now I'm wavering :
- Is this Xperia V a good choice ? From what I can read on XDA forums, owners of this V seem happy with their choice, but for example, has someone experienced any 3G connectivity issues since the JB upgrade ? Are the other bugs really annoying ?
- I was planning to wait a few months before getting rid of Sony software and get CyanogenMod on this Xperia V ; now that I see the bugs I want to get CM as soon as possible, but is it safe to avoid the warranty of a smartphone right after spending €500 for it ?
- In a nutshell : is the Xperia V a good choice ? (I want a phone that runs JB smoothly on a minimum-300dpi screen, with a micro-SD slot, a removable battery, LTE-compliant, and that I can handle with one of my small hands )
Thanks to anyone who can help me decide whether to buy it or not...

The points you list at the end overlap quite a bit with my criteria for picking the V, and I don't regret it at all. I was hoping Sony would push this model more than they have and that it would get strong sales so that "smaller" phones might not end up in a low-spec ghetto. Anyway, to address your points:
- The 3G connectivity issues may very well have to do with the network settings being set by default to connect to LTE. I had major issues until I changed the settings (my contract doesn't include LTE). Since then, no problems. If the review unit had this setting on, that's probably what happened.
- The display quality seems ok to me. This isn't honestly that huge a thing for me, so maybe somebody else has a stronger opinion on it than I do.
- There's no such thing as "uninstallable" . There is a (somewhat complicated) method for rooting the V without unlocking the bootloader, so as not to void your warranty. I didn't have any of the bloatware that you listed on mine, so it must be carrier-added bloat. I'm new to Xperia and I unlocked mine after about a week, so I may be wrong about this, but I think you can flash .ftf's with a locked bootloader, and just use a generic version of the firmware and voilà - no more bloat!
- I've never had a SOD. The only bug I've dealt with since upgrading to JB is long pauses between tracks when using the Walkman app. Admittedly a pretty big deal for me, I can only hope that since "Walkman" is pretty much synonymous with "Sony", they'll get this one sorted sooner rather than later.
Satisfied with everything except for the battery consumption while on data. Came from Galaxy Nexus. I leave data on for the whole day with my Nexus and it lasts. With this Xperia V, i turn off the data and switch to GSM when not in use.

Carriers are well-known to add in lots of bloatwares. Nothing to do with the phone. But currently there's no working version of CM10.1 (JB 4.2.x), though.
The FreeXperiaProject are on it, albeit not high in their priority list.
Those who tested the current testing version of CM10.1 reported that the ROM is too damn smooth. xD
So for us to have a working version of CM10.1, it will take some time...
Disclaimer: I don't personally own a V, but a T instead.
- Among all the phones I have used, I personally haven't ran into any phone with connectivity issue. Most of the times, it's due to either telco bad signals or half-baked ported roms (i.e. CM10.1), which is probably the less of your concern. However, I heard that V was equipped with 4G (whereas T was not), so you might want to explore this more.
- V screen is far superior compared to T (and maybe Z as well), according to comparison videos and videos I have seen so far. I'd love to have the V display screen.
- From what I saw, V and T shared the same bloatwares. Most of the bloatwares on T are Sony media connection utilities, which are not that annoying. EA Games, OfficeSuite and other stuff I don't really use can be deleted. Coming from a Nexus, I'm surprised that bloatwares did not annoy me at all.
- T suffers from a Walkman bug, that's all. I'm not sure about V.
Yes, you should buy it. It's the only phone with 720p resolution and ergonomic screen size, yet maintain a decent performance, and better yet, an SDCard slot.

Personally I love my Xperia V, there is no phone I would have rather bought. Well maybe Z. It just feels awesome in my hands, looks awesome, is really snappy, the camera is a beast in my opinion and the waterproofig is a plus too.
There are some disadvantages of course, the main one being the lack of developers. I know, I shouldn't "whine" about it, they do it for free and because they want to and I should start deving my self if I'm not satisfied. But I won't. Coming from HTC Desire I was a bit disappointed (shouldn't use that word) to see the lack of roms and mods etc. The battery is a bit too small too, I thought that smartphones would last longer nowadays, but nah, it's a minor upgrade to HTC Desire for example.
Another problem is that my phone seemed a bit bugged right out of the box, orientation sensor would sometimes get stuck and not rotate the screen. I took it to Sony care, let's see what they can do about it. Probably nothing, since the it happens very randomly.

I loved my old HTC Desire. What a great phone it was.
I'm hoping to buy an Xperia V this weekend, too. I'm worried about battery life; has anyone bought an extended one?
I'm using an Xperia V, and I have rooted, added cwm, debloat the wares, still locked bootloader.
I heard that V have two kinds of screen too. And my screen's black color is truly black, not gray like T .
I've tested a film on my phone and my laptop, I just have to say that BE2 is great, it enhances the colors on the film, which is very nice, I've made a comparison with my friend's Xperia T, the BE2 sometimes enhances the colors too much which makes it a little bit unreal, but to tell the truth, most of the time, it makes u feel that the image is greater than the original xD
I'm from Vietnam, we only have 3G. But the connection speed is great, it doesn't take me long to download apps from Play Store . I think it may depends on your signal and the network provider speed . Cuz it depends in my country, if you have full signal, you will got speed around 6-7.2 mbps, but I usually got around 3-5mbps .
About Sony apps, Walkman has some bugs with playing, soon it will be fixed. SoD appears suddenly, I don't know if it just with GPS ). But this is a serious problem, it will be fixed soon either. And about the camera, I myself love the main camera with it's great speed of shoot, but the front camera sucks :|, I love the front camera of Xperia S more
One little thing I want to say that I love the water proof of this phone ). My friends' iPhone can't do that, and that's the way I troll them with my Xperia
Thank you all for your feedbacks, just bought my Xperia V this morning for €429 (great deal on Sony France e-shop, due to the loooong wait) !
I'll receive it next week, will root it as soon as possible to get rid of bloatware, change the networking settings since my contract isn't 4G, and wait for CM 10.1
I'm eagerly waiting for Xperia SP, or should I buy this Xperia V?
Plus of Xperia V : water/dust resistant, 13 MP camera
Plus of Xperia SP : bigger screen and battery capacity, higher CPU and GPU
Any suggestions?

Buy the SP. The V's flaps will soon fall out. Mine is already sticking out. If you want a waterproof one get the Z as they use a different and stronger material for their flaps. However if you're on a budget get the SP. It's high CPU ans GPU makes up for not having waterproof.

There are two things I hate about the Xperia V: 1) Disappointing battery performance on data connection (WiFi is significantly better), 2) Lack of development.

The LED strip and GPU is good. I mean it has an old processor but it's 1.7Ghz Dual Core. It's fine for me. It's also faster than the V. I have the V and overtime you'll lose water resistance as the flaps will fall off. Mine is already sticking out.

How long did it take for the flaps to fall out ? I have mine for 3 weeks now and despite the fact that they feel a bit fragile, I think if I take care of them they will hold on...
I am really fond of my V, it feels great in the hand, it is quite smooth, the battery life is acceptable, the camera is pretty good, and I dropped a pint of beer on it without any damage !

Thinking of going back to a Z1...

Hi guys,
I had a Z1 a few months ago but experienced quite a few issues with it. Anyway, I'm getting bored of my Note 3 now so I was considering going back to a Z1. I was just wondering, what a few issues been fixed.
I had an issue where when you type the phone seems to start vibrating and then as you continue to type the vibration got stronger and stronger like a build up...
Also do you really think the Z2 will drop soon? Why release two new Z1's and then a Z2? It leaves your product base a generation behind.
Mike
Never heard about this vibration issue, maybe a bug on the firmware or a bad configuration, but i have a Z1 and its perfect, i just had to change 3 times until solve the touch screen problem
But this phone is a BEAST, and i think that Z2 wont appear until next year.... I recommend you to come back to Z1 and be happy!
It's very normal and seems like it will build up but it's not. It vibrates less if you type quickly, if you type pressing well you see it vibrate stronger and typing consecutively let the vibration go up and you feel that but actually is normal.

BTW if ever the Z2 will be released it will be for the end of this year but before that there is Z1s and Compact. At the end depends of what you pretend exactly, Z1 it's a beast and when the Z2 will be released the Z1 will be more chipper so maybe you should think about it.

[Q] Buying Xperia Z1

So i'm going to buy the Xperia Z1 , but im scared that it heats up and it would have heating problems and other problems . should i go for it or not?
THANKS
Go for it, almost all the problems was solved with the FW .136 Update and with KitKat it will be much better. BTW there is no any Perfect phone on the market, all of them have + and -.
so heat problems were proved to be software problems? what about touchscreen . im afraid because in my country if it has minor problems like this ( They consider it minor ) they dont trade it for me. and why your phone is back to sony center @eclyptos ?
THANKS!

Yes, problem was solved by Software. I sent back my phone to Sony Center via warranty for Touch Screen issues but that was before the FW .136 was released. Many reported they do not have problem with the Touch Screen anymore after update to .136. So in few days my phone will be back and I will check what exactly they did, replaced the Touch Screen or just Updated the FW to .136.

It's an amazing device and probably the best one out there.
Do bare in mind that a lot of new devices are being released in March (after MWC) and new features as well an next generation CPU and GPU's will be implemented, so if you do have the money and don't mind waiting, maybe it is worth holding off till then.
Z1 has amazing performance, is waterproof and the camera can take astonishing pictures.
The screen has vibrant colors but the viewing angles are not great ( could be a no no for some). The external speaker is also a disappointment as it has waterproofing membranes.
I would advise you to read reviews online and see if that's the device for you. Other phones to consider would include (LG G2, Nexus 5, HTC One, Oppo Find 5,SGSIV, Note 3 etc). None of the devices available in the market is perfect, so you just have to choose the one that suits your usage best.
I have quite a few Z1 videos on my YouTube channel so if you have time, come and check them out.

[Q] Shoul I buy the Z1? Touch and WiFi issues solved or not?

I have a good deal on the Xperia Z1. But I've seen a very long thread here where people are complaining WiFi is weak and touch screen has a problem registering touches. I want to know are the issues fixed as of now or not. Don't want to get disappointed after buying the phone.
Sony Xperia Z1
For the touch issues, it was already fixed (as far as i know) last year. it was October 2014 since i bought this phone, and i didnt see any issues with touch, even with 4.4.4 kitkat update. with the Wifi, sometimes i need to restart the modem or phone itself to connect with the wifi, but it only occurs once a week or twice a month. maybe they will fix it on the lollipop update this March.
Oh thanks. Very much. How is the phone? Any other issues?

if you'll stick to the stock rom and update it to kitkat, well for me there are no other issues aside from wifi drop..

bad screen? i guess yes, but i used a custom rom and the viewing sides re decent and actually readable.

I don't love this device, but i like it.
Only problems for me:
1.Low and disorted speaker sound (because of waterproof covering)
2.Wifi distance performance is a bit weak, and drops from connection once a week.
3.Easily scratching screen. You should buy screen protect.
4.Screen touch issues, happens when your hands are moist. Also fixible with root access.
But I like it for:
1.Really good performance for gaming and daily usage.
2.Battery life is pretty good.
3.Lollipop update on the way with good UI.
4.Phone is really durable. I dropped it many times from a tall distance but anything happened to the phone.
5.Good camera performance (with manual settings).
If there's a good deal for this phone, and if you don't have much money, you can buy it without any fear.

It depends on the price and the state of the phone, if used. I'd say that the xperia z1 is a great phone. Got this phone since september, bought mine with a broken screan and repaired it. The wi-fi bug happened to me only once since then, and didn't notice touch problems.

Z1 still worth it?

Hey guys,
I need a new Phone because my old one (xperia sp) died of water damage...
I made a list and now I've removed the LG G2 (no expandable storage, only 16gb model available) and the S4 VE (too much issues on custom roms). And the only Phone left is the xperia Z1!
Does the xperia Z1 still perform well? It has a cm12 build now, is it stable for daily driver use? Should I give sony another try because the xperia SP is an absolute POS it lagged like crazy, even on custom roms!
It is water proof so I can't kill my Phone again and it seems like a very nice Phone!
Any issues with the device?
thanks,
noahvt
i my self have xperia sp, and looking to buy xperia z1
my friend has one, and it's uncomparable to sp
lightning fast phone, all my attempts to make it lag failed lol, if you buy second hand, mak sure it still has sonylogo, beceause it's ugly without it , camera is superb, my sp's camera feels like a vga camera next to z1 camera
also all z1 phones have touch screen issues when the phone gets little hot from use, your screen will respond to ghost touches, so you have to turn it odd, then on and continue using it

I also came from an XSP. i bought my z1 at december and i happy with it. The price was good, and the phone is a beast.
did anyone face some ghost touches ?
