Hi all,
Ive been a Lurker here on the forum for some time now, but decided to join cause im hoping to join the android Major leagues with an M7.
Ive loved the phone ever since i 1st saw it, but ive only gotten around to actually buying one "ONE" (excuse the pun) only now, & ive been revisiting the forum & reading up on the phone.
seems like it does have some issues with the camera though,
so far, thanks to the forum i know to look for the phone build date & the camera sensor info via a root explorer. what ive read so far indicates
build dates after 2013-Sep should be in the clear
sensors ->> VD6869 = BAD! , OV4688 = OK , SHARP = BEST . "Browse to "/sys/android_camera/sensor" and open the file with a document viewer."
best way to test the sensor is to place a hot phone face down & check the camera for pink/purple tinting
Green tinting is a software issue & fixable
Please correct/add-on any newer info or opinions with regards to the above. aside from these. is there anything else i should be looking for? or even any other noteable issues on the phone? i think i read something about the HDR mics biend excluded from later batches but havent got around to researching that yet.
EDIT: whats the general consensus on when the the HDR mics were swapped out? Is there a way to determine which mic you have?
Thanks !:good:

I just tested and this works. FYI, my sensor was replaced through warranty, and the new one is "ov". I think in my country, all the replacement chips are ov.
Just got my htc one back from htc service center. Had a purple tint issue. Now camera sensor is "ov ov4688 4m"
But its showing green tint now.
Can anybody explain what does SHARP camera sensor code name?

My camera works meaning it opens but the image looks off colored. Its like all the colors are separated. I have checked the modes on the camera while it is open. Is there anyone who knows how to fix this. Posted a picture I took and it had all the basic settings but pictureis still off. Running fasttest 2.9 and its freakin awesome.
I'd wish people would stop posting non-android development stuff in the android development thread...Most likely a hardware issue, you can prove me wrong though. I want to really punch someone in the face right now...Imma punch my own, STOP POSTING IN THE WRONG SECTION D:
would attempt to help if you posted in the right sub section.

ya, i had the same problem too, and no switching roms does not help.
its more likely a hardware problem, and i just sent it to t-mobile and got a new one back even though the phone was rooted........

Hi all,
I bought the HTC One yesterday, I got a good deal cut price of £210 I'm in the UK (London). I wanted something better looking, this phone certainly fits the bill. I posted on the suggest device thread before, most recommended the HTC One a week ago.
Today, I'm reading some threads in the HTC One section and it looks scary the amount of problems all kinds people are experiencing.
What is the root of all these problems? Is it to do with custom ROMs? I'm a simple user, I've never used anything but default/STOCK what the phone comes with.
If I don't update to 4.4.2 will it be safe to use?
Please advise, asap, thanks.
I'm referring to posts like cracking sounds with the speaker, loud speaker turning on by itself, purple tint on camera.

Purple tint is an issue which I've experienced, so have many of my classmates who own this phone. Ironically, my phone just came frm the Service Centre 2day after the purple tint issue.
Loudspeaker has never automatically turned on for me. Cracking sounds occur if the bass is exceptionally high. Turning off the Beats Audio from the Settings solves that problem. These 2 issues haven't affected as many people, and aren't really as big a deal as the purple tint issue.
Many problems occur when people are not well informed about what they're doing and make unnecessary modifications of their device. A very common issue is when they completely convert their device into a Google Edition, which I don't really understand why. Conversion to a Google Edition has screwed up many phones. If u want the Google Edition, u can simply flash a Google Edition ROM, which is identical to the actual phone and a BILLION TIMES EASIER than fully converting the phone.
If ur attempting something which u feel u aren't sure off, ideally u should create a thread asking for guidance before u start anything.
Thank you for your response. I'm not one to flash any ROM to it, you mentioned Google Edition. Is it ok to use it as it is?
I will check the purple tint on my phone camera. And adjust other things like dre beats for bass ect..

Look, the issue happens when u flash a Google Edition RUU on a non-GE One (Please read a little more about RUUs if ur not sure). Installing a Google Edition ROM is no issue whatsoever. But KitKat Google Edition ROMs require S-OFF.
P.S. Please hit the thanks button if you think I helped you

Not really necessary. I've been using this handset since 5 months now. I've used a variety of custom ROMs as well as stock. Never experienced anything like this. (I'm talking abt the speaker issue, not camera)
FYI: If ur using the built in speakers to play music/video, turning on Beats Audio will reduce the volume but increase the bass. Turning them off will increase volume but reduce bass. That's my experience. Turning on Beats Audio, the speakers were softer than the 5S. Turning them off, it was louder
If ur using earphones/headphones, keep Beats Audio on. Considerable improvement in bass and volume
Also, purple camera has no software fix. The phone will have to be sent to HTC for repair. Took 1 week for mine to be reapired in Dubai under local warranty.
Again, another FYI, Sense-based ROMs have a FAAR superior camera than the GE ROMs. So, if ur a camera freak, don't go 2 GE-based ROMs. Also, Beats audio doesn't work on GE ROMs
You know when you open up the Camera for HTC One, it goes pink/purple for maybe 1-2 seconds like it's trying to find it's colour level then back to normal, is this the same with everyones HTC?

If its just for the first 2 seconds, not an issue. But the easiest way to test the purple cam issue is to cover the lens completely with ur hand or place it on a flat surface, with the lens touching the surface. Open the camera, look at the phone, if its the colour of the surface, then its ok. Even a small shade of any other colour will soon increase as time passes. So IMO, get it rectified now itself if u see such a problem
Hey guys...
I took a picture of myself indoors with flash and I am beside myself in utter disbelief. LG took away dual LED that was so awesome on the G3 and I can't help but wonder... who's the genius that thought this was a good idea??? Close range shots of people with flash makes them look like they have a severe case of jaundice and are about to throw up. Taking the same photo with a G3 or even a Galaxy S5 yields normal looking skin tone. What amazes me is that after a few days of searching, I've only been able to find at most 2 mentions of this. Has no one else noticed how badly yellow/green tinted flash pictures are with the G4?
Are there any fixes / adjustments? Any chance Marshmallow might address color balance to help with this situation? I must be missing something because I can't fathom LG making such an obvious oversight because I'm sure there had to have been some thought and argument around removal of the 2nd LED. I can't facepalm myself enough... although I really truly hope I'm wrong.
Anyone?

So I got the XZ1C recently, it's on Android 9, came like that out of the box. I think it was an ex display model from Russia.
The thing is, the camera seems absolutely awful. I've attached a picture I took of a simple grey carpet in OK light conditions. As you can see if you zoom in, there's loads of yellow and blue dots that appear on the picture. Most pictures also come out really noisy, making details a blur.
I have an XZ3 Compact here and it takes better pictures than this, and has never had the coloured dots issue. Is my XZ1C faulty, or is this normal?
Appreciate any help on this!
Oh and my bad for having 2 threads up. I just figured this was quite a different topic but if a mod wants to merge it with the other one that's fine :good:
Hm yeah something doesn't look right at all. How zoomed in is that photo? I just took an up close shot in medium lighting and this is how it came out. Granted I'm running LOS 16 but I think the stock camera should be just as good if not better.

It's not even zoomed in much. Here's a standard picture I just took. I've not got as good lighting, it's just with a dull light on but it's not exactly bad lighting.
When you zoom in slightly it's pretty easy to see the dots everywhere. A lot of my pictures are also immensely noisy, the detail is just completely lost on anything far away. It's like some sort of awful compression.
I tried messing around with some settings, It improved a little but it's still pretty bad. Even the pictures that come out better than my Z3C have the horrible dots everywhere.
Yours looks good though and more along the lines of what I'd expect from the Camera. What do you think it could be?

Have you looked in the service menu to see if the phone has been unlocked? An unlocked phone with no DRM would give you bad grainy pictures.
There's achance that it's been rooted and just had android 9 put back on it, which leaves the camera working, sort of.

I thought it might be that, but I'd be very surprised if it has been rooted. When I checked the service tests on 9, it said "Bootloader Unlock allowed: Yes", but I'm not sure how to see if it has actually been unlocked
I flashed an Oreo .ftf with Newflasher though, and my camera doesn't work on Oreo. The service menu here states rooting status is unknown and mentions nothing about the bootloader. I'm not sure if I just made a mistake somewhere though and that's why that's happened, It'd be very odd if it was rooted before
If you have Oreo installed, just flash DRM fix, if this gets the camera working properly then problem solved.

Yeah there's definitely something wrong. You'd know the bootloader was unlocked if when booting the device you get the screen this device cannot be trusted warning.
FWIW my device is rooted with no DRM keys and the photos are still coming out great. What I would do first is factory reset the device. If still no improvement, flash different Pie firmware using the flash tool, like Customized EU or Customized UK. Lastly see if the results vary with other camera apps.

Is this the fix? Unfortunately I'm not rooted, not sure I really want to do it just yet with Google updating SafetyNet to block people with unlocked bootloaders from apps.

Oh yeah I've not seen that screen, I assume it's still locked then. I tried 2 Oreo firmwares, one was a German one, the other a UK one. The camera worked on neither.
I then tried a Global one (couldn't find one on the latest version of Oreo so it was a few versions back) and the camera worked. The same issues are still present though, maybe a slight bit better. I'm pretty baffled by what it could be.

On one of the firmwares, I think it was a UK one, I updated manually through the phone to Pie. No improvements unfortunately. I may try another one just for testing sake, good idea.
I did find something interesting though. I was looking online and saw a techradar review of the XZ1C. I've attached a picture that they took with the camera. It has the same coloured dots issue I'm experiencing with the phone.
I also tested my Z3C some more. When I'm in camera mode and I zoom in, I can see a similar issue with coloured marks, but once I take the picture itself, the post processing fixes everything and I get a nice clean image. The post processing on my XZ1C doesn't seem to do the same. It's a much faster camera but doesn't seem as clean. I took a screen recording showing this, not sure if it'd really help if I uploaded it for you to see though.
Okay - I see what you mean but I don't think you'll get a better picture than that to be honest, the camera software is just not great at post-processing to begin with. It's great in medium to high lighting, but anything in low light comes out grainy. My images look about the same if I view them on a large screen and zoom in. I had vastly superior results running GCam on my Xperia X Compact but unfortunately GCam on the XZ1C is not possible currently, if at all.
Also, if you still want to try, there's bunch of firmware here to download:

Oh, so this is probably pretty normal for this phone then. I was worried my model was faulty honestly, I suppose it is a little relieving though disappointing to see. I flashed another Android 9 firmware, no difference. Thanks for all the help with this, appreciate the prompt responses and help!

No option that I know of in the stock camera app. Best bet would be to use a different camera app. I know Footej supports flipping the image.

Thanks, appreciate that! Seems bizarre that there isn't native support for it. Seems like a basic feature.
