Its all depends on the tolerances of your chipset. What works for one will not works for others.
There are plenty of posts within that thread giving peoples settings.
try some for yourself, and see how you get on, then adjust them and check...

I've never been able to install doomlords custom kernel without having random reboots at some point, I don't believe its to do with the CPU speed as pimps one was just fine. Simply as it comes after a flash, changing nothing I get reboots. Flashing the advanced stock kernel allows me to use my phone without the worry of it rebooting at a time that I need it, I don't feel that I'm missing out on anything either. Not a solution for the custom kernel per say but certainly one for the stability of your device from my perspective. Changing the settings within safe limits and stressing the CPU will allow you to find your CPU/chipsets thresholds. Keep a copy of the advanced stock kernel on your internal memory invade your phone won't boot.

This question is very opinionated. As mentioned each chip is different as is each persons needs and usage. The two replies above are the best you will get, and this question cannot be answered further...

All things Discussion - Help, Problems, Advice

I saw few general threads describing problems within them. This is development forum and only development should be posted here. As we are lacking other sections like Q/A forum, General forum, hence I created this thread which will be a all in one general thread. So now onwards don't create a thread for your problem, help or advice instead post within this thread.
Only we are supposed to keep our forum clean and tidy.
Let the discussions begin!
i just want to thank all the great developers we have for this device, without you i think we wouldn`t receive our own forum.

I stopped using xda after seeing that my device is not present in it...before 3 months...
But now I opened it 2 days before and suddenly seen a separate section !!
Thanks for this section...:laugh::good:
I have a question. I noticed that when you want to root the device, the binary counter will increase, because you flash a kernel. In my galaxy tab 10.1, this can be avoided if you flash a custom recovery with odin and then use this to flash an update zip with root (the counter increases only when I flash a custom kernel). So the question is: As far as you know, does the counter increases only when you flash a kernel, or it will increase just by using odin? I plan to buy the device, and I don't want to be out of warranty in the first 1-2 months and I just can't live without root!

This device doesn't have a separate recovery partition!
So that cannot be done.

Thanks...I thought as much. That means that if I buy it, I will have to keep it stock at least until (if) there is a JB update. They separated the partition I think in ics onwards. Any chance the s2 jig woks?
Hey.
I've got one question: where I could found a local storage (internal memory (no sdcard)) in TWRP?
Is it possible to install *.zip without memory card? I can't found it.

governor and i/o
hi..
i not sure if this is the right place to ask but my question is, what is the best governor and i/o for performance and for battery life?
im using jetmod..
thanks
I want to ask a question, when i dial *#0228# on keypad the battery window comes up, below that window there is a button "Quick Start". I want to ask that what this button do. Sometimes when i put my phone in charging and press this "Quick Start" button after like 30 to 40 min laterwhile the phone is in charging , suddenly my battery level rises up approximately 15-20%

modem partition
Does anyone know where modem.bin is located? Is it in a separate partition or just lying there in /system?
Hi!
I've a question about the CyanogenMod 7 porting...
Is possibile to flash it in the I9070P device?
If not, can you create a rom that work with the nfc version?
Thanks for the job!

By the way sir, may i get your seperated kernel for JetMOD? I would like to try your Kernel Changer tool..

Help! How to disassemble it??
Hi,
i would like to open my Samsung S Advance (it was really easy to open my normal Galaxy S) but i don't know how?
it looks very different compared to the Galaxy S1,S2,S3, so after removing the screws, i don't know how to continue.
i searched everywhere...google,bing,youtube etc. but i got no answer. maybe someone of you knows it? Feeling a bit desperate
If i follow the next steps:
1-Root using the new method that does not increase the binary
2-Install TWRP using the DD method
3-Instal JetMOD using TWRP
Would i increase my binary counter by installing the custom rom? i dont want to loose my warranty.

[Q] GT-I8190N Custom Kernel

Specs :
GT-I8190N with DMod
Hi.
I am desperately seeking for a custom kernel for the above configuration (not for a CM based rom!).
A good governor and I/O-Scheduler to save my battery and my life would be so gorgeous...
Thanx in advance for your time and any help.

Perhaps you should take a look at the second rule...
I am looking and of cause searching for a "none-CM" custom kernel with governors and schedulers for months.
So if i missed something, which of cause could happen, please share your knowledge with me.
Fine regards.

you are about the 5th person i have seen post this question
they also did not take the time to actually search through forums properly
if you had actually searched you would have seen at least 3 threads closed because of people asking the same question again
if you had perhaps asked for assistance in building your dev environment to make a custom kernel for a stock rom then perhaps i would have had something helpful to say
any way i have said my piece
there are no fully working kernels for stock rom N/L/International variants
there have been some attempts and there are a few people who are still trying but these still have a few bugs and may not be a daily runner
from my observations so far, a custom kernel on stock rom for this phone tends to have a bug where you are unable to set the governor in some instances and the CPU stays stuck in 1Ghz

I searched this forum and felt the whole internet to death before i decided to post here, and didn´t neither find a working kernel nor any information that there doesn´t exist one.
Perhaps i made a mistake with my search arguments "gt-i8190n kernel", but imho they are as basical as possible.
Atm i stay at the user side, but when i decide to become a dev, i´ll ask for assistance...of cause after using the forum search...
Yfi GoldenKernel is working on the N variant, but of cause without the advanced N features like NFC and so. The dev of this kernel wanted to build a N version of this kernel too, but this information is imho from april´2013...so perhaps he quit working on it...
So i finally hope that a cutom kernel maker will get some free time soon...:fingers-crossed:
Any way, thank you for your help and information!

Kernel without Logo2Wake and Logo2Menu

Hi,
so I'm currently running the Lunar-Kernel because I want to have more clockspeed-cteps, lower minimum clockspeed and voltage-controls so that I can undervolt the CPU slightly which saves a lot of battery.
I just realized that it has this stupid Logo2Wake and Logo2Menu-Feature that I don't need and now I want to know how I can disable those or if there is any kernel that supports those voltage and clockspeed-settings but doesn't have these Logo-Features.
Thanks for your time and help in advance!
Stupid?!

Ok so because you don't need them, doesn't mean these are stupid features. Devs are working hard to bring those features users asked for. What is stupid imo is someone not searching the forum for something evident. maybe you should read those threads
Not a single kernel there that does what I describe above, except this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301543
But the download isn't available anymore.

You ca n undervolt and overclock/underclock with elementalx
you can chose what features you want when installing in aroma so you won't be stuck with logo2wake or logo2menu if you don't want them

TeaMSeven kernel for CM11. Why would you not want logo to menu? It is so handy but even if it was there you wouldn't have to ever touch it. Anyway, aroma lets you choose whether to install or not. Btw, my first post after I got my One was asking for a kernel for CM that DID have that feature and I got my a** busted!!

This kernel doesn't have AROMA-Options for all the features :/
I don't need the features and at first I didn't know that they were there, was really confused when the phone randomly woke up or a random menu popped up.

what about it? what's your real question? stock is however stock is set up, custom kernels change the CPU setup, in many differing ways. there is no one correct answer as there are many different custom kernels and setups.

if you have issues with the stock kernel, yes. if you want root, yes. should you learn how to set up your cpu properly before changing kernels? yes. learn about the governor/scheduler, how changing them changes your cpu performance. besides that, some kernels add a few minor features as well.
Rooted but as close to stock as possible. I've always had issues with heavily tweaked custom kernels.
They have their place, but not if you wan't a solid rooted daily driver IMHO.

im a well known custom kernel user, and yet I NEVER use any custom kernel as they are set up by the developer. I ALWAYS use my own CPU setups, always. as far as I can tell, my setup is as solid for me as any stock kernel that google provides. but not only solid, my phones performance is kicked up a notch as well as its battery life. and my devices turn out much more responsive too.
Wow you must be very skilled and talented!
Sometimes messing with stuff like that can create bootloops and random freezes.
I also love how you have contributed to this thread by saying how you ALWAYS use your own CPU setups.
It was very informational an helpful.
Thanks!

and that's why its very important to know about governors and schedulers.
here's one of my examples.. for a long time, I was the only one using all 4 cores on , no hotplugging. and many people laughed at me about it, claiming my battery life must suck. but, for android 5.1 google changed the CPU settings for the nexus 6. and many people really noticed about how reactive the n6 became. what did google change? they set the cpu to be always on, no hotplugging
BTW, I use the ondemand governor with the deadline scheduler. with the sampling rate for ondemand set at 15000 and the sampling rate at 98.

Honestly, a lot of it is going to be subjective, it depends on the kinds of apps you use, whether or not you tweak the governors and settings or not, whether you are using an app to make doze more aggressive, etc...
Most of it is going to have to involve some trial and error from you
I'm using Franco. It seems OK and I can get 5 hours SOT which is enough for me. I asked the same question before and I was told that EX is more customizable and Franco is more easy to use, it's just flash and forget.

Almost none of the problems reported in the kernel threads are kernel related. Most are either from none stock roms, root, magisk, modules and other stuff people flash on top. I personally tried stock, elemental and franco's kernel. None had any Problems what so ever. I personally chose franco because I've been with him for years. He's a great guy and supports his kernel and app with great effort. From a pure performance/battery standpoint i haven't found much differences. But i also run my personal settings, so... :good:
