My cousin wants to root his T599. Everything I have read is doing it from Gingerbread. His device is on 4.1.2. Can it be rooted through the same method as Gingerbread, Recovery and rootstock.zip?

There have been a couple of topics about fake I9000's. Apparantly they sell the Korean version as if it was an I9000. More info.
Could this be the case for you too? You may be able to salvage your device. Honestly I doubt you need to blame Samsung for this. Many people here are very happy with their Samsung device! (Including me.)

I used towelroot.apk by geohot. I think if you google it you can find instructions. After towelroot yo can run supersu.
Now i need iptables support in my kernel.
Talk about a mega bump!
