Is there a way to merge the Device Memory (1.97 GB) and the Internal Storage (10.85 GB)?
I hate it that I can't install alot of app due to it being in Device Memory. I barely use the internal storage as my media files are in my (Ext) Micro SD card. the DM fills up easily, and could not install or update app when it's around 130MB, which should be plenty. I had to manually move some app to Internal Storage, and not all apps can be moved.
FYI, I have an Xperia SP, Xperia Z and Xperia Z1s and Xperia L and Xperia M. All of which have Device Memory and Internal Storage merged. Z1s (26.11GB), Z (13.8 GB), etc. it's awesome, would never fill up, except for the L and M, and possibly SP.
Can the same be done for the Xperia T and TX? custom ROM? Root? CyanogenMod? btw, I never done any of this except flashing ROM. so if it's possible please post links for instructions.
There is a how-to in the General section on resizing these partitions, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712253

* I do it with titanium backup, the move to sd, and almost all can be passed. It frees up space, but not much.
it could take the system with root xplorer and then install from sd?
just wondering, because I have no idea if you can.

I just got my Xperia V and discovered that there is only 8GB of internal memory. I tried to move the apps from phone memory into sd card but there is no such option at all. I can only move apps to Internal memory.
The Batman Dark Knight Rises is 2GB and I would really hope that the apps can be installed to my microSD.
Please advice thank you!

What apps are you trying to move? Does the SD card show up in your settings->storage menu?
xperia v like an android, so strange that many of android machine they have sd card but always cannot be moving those application to sd card...
I heard that galaxy s3 also having this problem, until root the phone to using link2sd to solve this problem. I think Xperia v also need to do the same.

I tried to move the Batman to the SD card but it doesn't work. there's only 1 option, which I'd move to internal storage.

If you can see move to internal memory option. That app must be allready in sdcard partition.
If you move app to internal memory you will see mive to sdcard next time.

You cant move apps to SD quite yet.
Either root or wait for JB. With JB you will be able to move apps to SD according to my source at Sony.
If you are rooted you can try the old Xperia Play trick of changing the default install location.
Open a terminal window on your phone and use the command pm set-install-location 2
That should change the default install location for apps to the SD card. If its a preinstalled app you might need to uninstall any updates the app had then do that command then update them. I'll see if I can find the old Xperia Play thread about this method. It worked great on the Play.

I have double checked with Sony, I can't believe that the Xperia V has only 8GB of internal storage with no option to install app to SD. It's basically useless for me to install large size apps such as NOVA 3, Batman Dark Knight Rises, etc

guys, i just bought this phone n a 32 GB mmc
but i just found out we cant install to external SD
i try using adb shell set-install-location 2
but then i cant install anything it said "not enogh memory" so i had to return it back to 0
later i found out using shiaomi that this phone thinks its internal SD is both internal n external
cant we do anything about it?
btw my phone's bootloader is locked and it said it cannot be unlocked, does that mean i will not be able to root this phone for all eternity?
Please post your questions in the Q&A thread in future...
Thread moved.
They are working on a way to root for locked bootloader. You can send pics movies music etc to SD card. but not apps or data......I only found this out after buying the phone.
If they find way to root for locked bootloader then you might be able to use link 2sd and create partition, which you can then send the apps to the the SD card and create links so it looks like they are on internal memory

In the phone settings, there is a handy menu that says "Transfer data to SD card". It automatically cleans your media files from internal memory and moves them to external SD card. At least this should free some space for your apps.
Root is now available look in dev section for doomlords root tool

Try with doomlord's method. Don't think you could get problems. Otherwise post on root's thread and ask if it's possible

The combination of two programs (link2sd & foldermount) that u have mentioned are worked but i have 2 problems
1.link2sd does'nt move all apps and some of them take error
2.foldermount just pair apps and increase internal storage from ( setting/storage) and this section is good but my problem is this :
in the root explorer i check my free memory and see the data folder in both of source. like this : sdcard0/android/data/com.rockstar.gta3 & sdcard1/android/data/com.rockstar.gta3
this means in 2 storage (int & ext) contains data folders!
what can i do?
To use link2sd you need to make partition on ext card and set it to primary i used free easeus partition tool to make partition you won't lose data. You need to use pc and sd card connected to pc without phone.
I have 32gig card and made a 4gig partition.then you can send apps to ext card by creating a link
Foldermount you need to create a folder on ext card eg game data then create separate folder for each game/app you want to move.
open foldermount app then give the app you are moving a name, select folder you are copying then select where you want to move data to ie the folder you created on ext SD card then select go
When files have been m moved you need to press the pin and make sure it goes green.
this app will pair the folder and files and trick phone into seeing file on internal memory but are really in SD card, it may seem that it has copied it twice, it has not.
I have asphalt 7, real racing 3 NFS most wanted,NFS shift plus others that all have extra data between 200mb-600mb installed when these are on internal I only had 1-1.5 gig spare and constantly being told to move data as system apps where not running.
By using these apps I have over 4.5gig spare.
think of these apps like making shortcuts on pc desktop that's all they do is move data by creating link to internal and ext card.
If you are having issues with apps they both have xda threads where the devs are active in answering questions
I can't give any more info sorry these worked for me and found them very easy to use and set up that why I mentioned them if they are not working maybe try the swap internal/external trick which is posted in Sp thread

Anyone make link2sd run on fw 9.2.a.1.210 or 2.5?
I'm not able to, i tried every type of partition, fat32, ext2, ext3. After that link2sd creates script and reboot, xperia v does bootloop

Same for me here (good thing I used the forum search before posting). It worked flawlessly under the Android 4.1 firmware, but after updating to 4.3, it does not anymore. Creating the boot script caused bootloops. And now, after using the phone without the script, link2sd cannot create one anymore (not exactly sure why). I guess we have to wait for 4.4 to give it another shot
No available internal memory, no new app but yes update
Hi there, I would to link at this thread to solve a critic problem on my rooted phone (lt25i)
Link2sd correct install. Everythings work correctly.
BUT
When new apps rise to the amout of space about the internal memory, Android 4.3 think there isn't space to get any new app, indeed updates are allowed.
I have almost 600mb free in the internal memory.
How to bypass this code?
Thankyou so much to anyone answer and want to beat this freedomless of jellybean.
Hell all ,
I am new to this wonderful forum and a newbie to Android.
I am using my Xperia ZR with stock rom 4.4.2 , very good device except battery issue.
My question is well known .......is there any Custom ROM available for XZR which support APP to SD feature?
with only 4.5GB of usable internal memory it very difficult to keep this device lag free while installing many apps and games.
At least if there is an option to swap internal memory with external sd card , it would be very helpful
I have rooted my phone , and checked almost every app which claims app to sd , but none of these works.
Any help ?
Thanks.
I don't see any of the custom roms with that option for now. I tried almost everything.
Hello everyone!
I flashed my XZR from Kitkat to Lollipop a view days ago.
After flashing I had 1 GB lower internal memory left, than a had before.
In detail, I had about 2 GB of memory left, when I started the download over OTA. The file loaded on my XZR and than it flashed. After end of flashing and reboot, only 800 MB to 1 GB internal memory are free now.
Could it be, that lollipop need 1 GB more internal memory as kitkat? I am confused now, cause I need more space in internal memory.
What happend and what can I do?
Greetings Lemmi.
Yes, lollipop needs more internal memory. Because lollipop is ART based, kitkat was Dalvik...
But 1GB, that is very much cause of only 8GB internal storage.
Try moving the apps to your SD. That's why I did to free up space from the internal storage.

Yes I tryed this already, but it dont helps much. Maybe I have to change to another smartphone with more than only 8 GB of internal memory.
Dont wanna go back to Kitkat, cause I think Lollipop runs smoother and better.
Think about rooting, but I think not everything works well right now on XZR and Lollipop with root and maybe there is no working recovery for it and the secong is I dont wanna open bootloader.
Maybe Link2SD could work and solve this storage problem. Aktually the app2sd function isnt enough on my side.

I have now installed about 100 apps (phone say it took 4,39GB - 900MB Free). After 60 apps installed phone say full storage, so i try scan by Xplore and I find in root folder one rly big folder. That folder is /data/data/com.android.providers.downloads/cache that I deleted and get around 1500MB of space. Seems to be some like thrash from Google Play Store. Root needed.
Ok, that helps me a lot. I will go on and root my XZR again. Think it is simple.
And by the way I read in your signatur that you have root and no recovery.
Here is the way to get a working recovery:

I will try it out, when I have root, but I think it will work!

All you need is Link2SD, I have a lot of apps installed on my phone, yet I still have over 2GB of free memory left
Do link2sd really work with our xperia zr? Cause on 4.4.4 we must do a workaround, cause if dont you end in a bootloop.
Can I use it without any problems on Lollipop now? I will try it, but it could be better, when I know problems before they happen
An how big you make the sdext partition on sdcard?
Just tried FolderMount for ColorDict and Telegram and both work fine.

There's no need for any workaround. I have an 8GB SD card (I don't know its class right now, doesn't matter), and I've split it 5 - 2:
-5GB for the sdcard1 partition,
-2,2GB for the sdext partition, which the Link2SD app uses.
There is a guide that tells you how to format your SD card right, the best way is via the MiniTool Partition Wizard.
If you've selected ext2 in that app, you want to select EXT4 in Link2SD. That way, when you reboot, everything will be fine.
This is because I've seen many bugs when it comes to creating mount scripts - you select ext2, but when you reboot, nothing happens.
Ok, good news.
I knew link2sd well from my old smartphone.
But I always formated the sdext partition with ext4 and normaly it worked. Hope so here too, cause it may be faster.
My SD is about 32 GB, so I can make a bigger partiton. But I think 2 GB should be best.

So do I. The guys at the Xperia M section helped me out a lot with Link2SD
Right now I had made a sdext partition of 2 GB and formated it 4ext.
After starting link2sd and setting mountscript to 4ext I get a bootloop Dont work!
Think I need a fix or a new remount boot fix for XZR. Think the old for kitkat will not work or will it?
Hello people.
Just updated my ZR to lollipop, yet I am suffering form the lack of internal storage, moving apps to my 64gb SD card seems useless, it refuses to transfer large data files to the SD card, like OALD 8 have a 450 mb data file that needed to be placed in the internal storage.
the ZR is really nice fast device but it`s internal storage is so horrible that makes you think seriously about changing the phone .
any help how to free some internal storage with out root?

Try uninstalling apps that you don't use. ARTS in Lollipop needs much more space than Dalvik, so every app counts. This is also true for system app. I uninstall several system apps, mostly from Sony. Then most important of all, after all these, wipe Dalvik and cache in recovery and let the system re-create them again. This process increase the free internal space from 500MB to > 1GB for me.
