Have had LTE in our area for years just noticed the other day both Moto X phone connecting on 4G?
Only setting I find is Auto and or 2 G
Under settings, Data, other, mobile network, preferred network type.
I'm I missing some other setting or trick ?
Pretty sure 4g is LTE. Some devices just say 4g.
Correcte if on wrong anyone. ?
Tmobile rom says 4g for hspa and 4g lte for lte. Usually when I'm in a call, it switches to 4g (hspa) and after the call it switches to lte

I can second this. My GSM Moto Xs say "4G" for both LTE and HSPA+
Interestingly, the Moto "G" shows "3G" while on HSPA+
One really useful app for checking which network type you are on is called "LTE Discovery" - free from the market. It will let you know if you are on LTE, or HSPA+ (or even EDGE).
You can also go to Settings > About Phone > Status and the network type will be listed under "Mobile Network Type".
Good Luck
I posted a decent response in your other thread.

Just wondering how do you know it was connected to LTE. Did the icon change?
Did you get your data back when it was switched back to HSDPA+?

Same here, I've been googling since this motning. New icon (4G LTE) showed in the corner and internet is gone. Tried fiddling with "LTE Setting"/"LTE Unlimited"/"LTE Discovery" apps from Appstore - no change. Weird... I think lots of people should be having that problem by now...
youll probably have to enter new APN settings. ask someone from the Tmo SGS3 or Note 2 forum for their LTE connected APN settings
Or look in the market for apn tweaker to get the settings.

i've set up a new access point and put fast.tmobile.com (no dash) in. Now internet works, showing 4G icon only, i didn't change my physical location though. I am in Houston now. Will check mms settings. i believe they've rolled out with the city-wide upgrade like a day before...

OK. Confirmed. For the 4G LTE to work you need to have in the APN settings:
fast.t-mobile.com (WITH the dash)
FULL internet is working now, did not notice much of a change of speed in comparison to 4G I had before.
Running on rooted 4.1.1 MB886 (AT&T Atrix HD, unlocked)
Mobile network type LTE:13
Sorry, I had been out all day. I tried all the APN settings they gave me and what the associate over the phone told me about, none worked. One of them said to go to a t-mobile store and ask for a "LTE" sim card. I did and now it's all working.

Hi,
I can confirm pjaca's method works.
Just change APN to "fast.t-mobile.com" nothing else.
I live in San Jose and it is one of the cities to get LTE but not where I live.
I was on a hunt for LTE this afternoon and not all area in San Jose have LTE.
If your phone is getting LTE signal you should see "4G LTE" logo next to your signal bars.

Couple questions -
I just got my Atrix HD and I'm in an area that doesn't have LTE currently. I get awesome HSPA service though. Any advantage/disadvantage of changing my APN?
Also, the APN setting is grayed out, do I need to make a new entry or something?
Thanks!
I have tmobile on my unlocked ahd..I tried three apn settings epc.tombile.com, fast.t-mobile.com and good old apn internet2.voicestream.com....they all show different reading in speedtest.net download speed range 1mb-8mb and upload speed range 768kb-2.1mb....as soon as I switch I get the highest range then it dies off....all apn behave all the same way..then again, I am in NYC and doing it from home avg 3bars but I don't think that mattters...and neither does any of the apn for me they all the same...however out of curiosity I will try again outside when I get full bar
But those of you having trouble in tmobile can try any of the above three apn setting and see which one(if not all) is working for you...technically they all should work
I added the new APN settings and the LTE icon appears in the status bar but I can't connect to the internet
Hey everyone,
I'm bashing my head over this since I just dropped $700 on a phone that won't do what my old Note 3 would do so easily. I'm on T-Mobile and in the SAME location as my old Note 3, my Nexus 6 refuses to get LTE unless I force it to LTE only. Issue there is that I then don't get phone calls. When I force LTE on it will get about 3-4 bars of LTE and speed test at 25+mbps. If I leave it default, I've never seen it go on LTE but one time. It constantly switches between HSPAP and 3G... it never stops this...
See attachments for screenshots. All images were taken with the device in the same physical location. I have LTE service here. My old Note 3 had LTE no issues.
Android 5.0.1 stock. Phone is 1 day old...
well, your hspa and 3G must be a much better signal, as thats why it would choose H/3G over lte. lte/gsm would be what you need to use to get lte and phone calls.

But my Note 3 had about the same signal strength and it ALWAYS choose LTE over HSPA / 3G.
Also after reboot it grabs LTE. Once I get a call, it drops to HSPAP and 3G. Refuses to go back to LTE.

that's normal behavior, to switch from lte to h or 3g, when you get a call. then it should switch back. unless you have data moving in/out, then it should wait until no data is moving, then go back to lte. do you have data moving in or out at that point? mine usually takes seconds to switch back, unless im using data.
New sim card. Fixed it up.
EDIT: Nope...
It could have also been tower issues. I was out Tuesday and for about half my trip route phone will not go into LTE unless forced.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
So apparently it'll boot to LTE and hold it fine. Once a call comes in, and it drops LTE for the voice call it won't hop back onto LTE.
Don't be fooled by TW signal reporting. Samsung phones will display 4g LTE even if they're on hspa or hspa +. It drops to 4g only when the signal switches to GPRS or Edge

But my speed test from 25mbps on LTE and 6mbps on HSPA+ is a missive speed difference. The indicator is correct when it says 3g / H
I'm not having the issues you are. I'm on a play store version but on Tmobile. I'd try clearing the cache if you haven't yet. Something is definitely wrong, either tower or the phone.

I don't recall. It was a SM-N900V (Verizon Note 3) that I was using on T-Mobile since I switched carriers.
If your note 3 had volte enabled then you phone was using LTE for phone calls. My best guess is that you're in a spotty H area and that's why you're seeing that on both the 6 and the 5. Check with somebody with a newer Samsung phone if calls are being routed through LTE

I do understand that. My main question / concern is why won't it hop BACK onto LTE after it drops it from getting a call. It will hold LTE, and speed test 25mbps through it. Yet once I make a call and it drops to HSPA+ it won't go back onto LTE. Just sits there doing: H->3G->H->3G->H->3G->H->3G->......
I see. So you have to force LTE back on. It seems that lollipop/nexus or what have you are not handling the signal dynamics correctly.

Now if you go out of that area, does the behavior continue?
---------- Post added at 09:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:12 PM ----------
Oh I forgot . My point before is that maybe the Samsung never dropped to H cause it didn't have to . I'm basically trying to figure out if it's a tower/signal issue or a phone/software issue.
tmobile doesnt have volte, yet. so it eirher dropped to H/3G or had a 2nd radio.

On a side note I had to switch back to regular network for calls cause there was quite a bit of static on LTE
I have a Nexus 6 activated on Sprint. My phone will only connect to either LTE or 1x. Any time it would normally connect to 3G, it will first show signal bars with no data icon. In LTE discovery I will have bars of eHRPD but it never actually establishes a 3G connection. Then after a few minutes of that it just drops down to 1x and stays there.
I have tried: flashing complete factory MRA58N, *#*#72786#*#* , update PRL, update profile, new SIM card and nothing fixes it. I think it's an issue on Sprint's end and not the phone but is there anything else I can try?
I ported my number to Project Fi, then decided to port back to Sprint to see if a new activation would help... but it didn't.
Any input?
how did you activate the phone? sprint isnt a "pop in a sim and you're good" carrier, you have to activate the sim AND the phone's radio for everything to work. go to a store if you cant figure it out with sprint over the phone
---------- Post added at 02:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:24 PM ----------
you also have to have the right model phone, if you have XT1103 you're good, but any other model wont work.
ive switched to CM13 and loving this phone... one gripe though..
on stock MIUI and CM, if i lose signal (usually 4g, running 1 sim) i will often stay with "no signal" for hours, unless i go into airplane mode and toggle on and off to force the phone to search for signal.
I've looked through all the settings and haven't found anything that could be causing it. I have it set to search for 4g first, then 3g, 2g.
I have the sim in tray 1 as well, but i highly doubt that could be causing issues.
I'm on Optus (Australia) and realize all bands arent supported out of the box, but the phone has 4g/3g signal where i am, it's just not looking for it.
Any ideas ?
I have the same problem

I have a paid-off Sprint LG G4 LS991 (firmware ZVG) that has received the over-the-air Domestic Sim Unlock from Sprint. I'm trying to use it on a T-Mobile account (actually Teltik reseller). The sim is not rejected and I can add/edit APNs and have added one with the recommended APN settings from Teltik. The phone connects to T-Mobile for voice, sms, mms and data ok, but the data is EDGE only and does not connect to LTE.
Can anybody suggest what to do to fix the LTE?
I do have the MSL and have looked in a lot of the hidden menus and didn't see anything. I don't have root on the device and there seems no way to get root on firmware ZVG. I have tried some of the shortcut menu apps but they seem to lack permissions to do anything, plus I don't know where or what to look for.
I've seen in other posts on the internet:
- Set the APN Bearer to LTE. However, the APN add/edit screen does not list a "Bearer" field.
- Set the mobile data mode to "Global". However, I couldn't find such a setting anywhere.
Thanks in advance.

Most places I've looked up TMO LTE bands list Band 2, 4, and 12, all of which are supported by the LS991.
Edit: This link indications 100% band compatibility of LS991 with TMO: https://www.frequencycheck.com/carr...-g4-ls991-td-lte-lg-p1/t-mobile-united-states
I'm convinced there is a settings or config issue preventing this from working. I just need to know where to look.
In other news, somehow the phone improved its connection to HSPA from EDGE, no changes on my end.

more update:
found the LTE roaming setting in the hidden menus. Enabling that forced a reboot and now LTE is working!
I can't find a way to reorder the LTE band priority though.
However, now MMS is not working, not sure why that happened, so working on that now. If I can get MMS and LTE at the same time, I think I'll be set!
