Hi
I have two main questions...
1) I wish to modify a custom ROM (for personal use)-to do this I was thinking of 'mixing' apps, for example using apps from other ROMS and putting them into one. So my question is once I am done mixing around with these apps do I repackage the zip using something like 7Zip or do I need another special program?
2) I was thinking of theming some basic apps (changing their background wallpaper), how can I do this (any links)?
I cannot unlock my bootloader, but I don't think I need to anyway, also I am currently on Android 2.3.7 (GDXv029-stock).
Thanks.
P.S.: My PC is Windows 7 x64, incase it helps.

The way I think putting apps in roms the fastest way is zip it with 7z. Put apk's in system/app(not all apps will work in system) and then your done. Easy as that

Thanks for the replies . But can anyone help me on theming certain apps (e.g. CM7 messaging app etc...)?
Hi guys, Im not used to Xperia modding as it seems alot diffrent compared to other devices. Can someone explain to me whay odex and deodex is? ( if that how there spelt) also what are the bennifits compared to one another. Thanks
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
Odex is how stock firmware ships
Deodex is the same thing with no ".odex" files, this makes you able to use modified system files, so it allows you to use themes
Odex files are basically cache files that make your phone load faster for the first time, but if there are no odex files Android creates a replacement for them so there is no lost performance
This is not exclusive to Xperia, many devices have these files

Hey guys, which one of the newest firmwares are rootable? I downloaded some of the newest ones and the ace ginger root file doesn't work for it so I had to downgrade until I found one that was rootable.
Sorry if this has already been asked or talked about before but I'm a little off on the Cooper forums xD

I tried the upd_1.zip on ddkq8 & it had worked. But when I flashed int2ext+ on BE kernel, device didn't boot & after a factory reset via cwm, it did. But this time, all the apps that need root access like the cwm, sd maid, etc., failed to open up & stuck on black screen with the app name label at the top. What could be the reason ?

Let's clear something up !
First of all, ALL ROMS can be rooted !
I have alot of experience in that, and after 3 years of testings first and only problem when u try to root a rom is SYSTEM free SPACE !
So, before complain that a rom cannot be rooted, just see how much free space u got (u can do that without root, using last 3.0 root explorer).
After u do that, make a flashable zip only with meta scripts that remove Maps.apk or something, than try again. It's 100000% workin !
Peace all !
Hi everybody!
You could easily remove bloatware (and much more) via aroma filemanager 1.8, just mount all, install zip from sdcard, select aromafm-1.80.zip run it and enjoy. The easiest way! Good luck.

There's a bloatware removal script for galaxy y that works even for ace. It works even without root. It is just a updater script that removes many unwanted apps. Just flash via recovery. Easy as that

Thank you! Downloading. Thanks for everything guys. I gave cooper to my girlfriend and I had Stock on Fire installed and it's giving her problems. The /system seems to have gotten corrupted somehow and a lot of apps FC and when I try making a Nandroid it stops at backing up system.
I'm about to just flash the latest stock rom, root it and add the all in one ICS/lockscreen mod and just leave it there. Do you guys recommend anything else? I just want something that I can leave it at and not worry about anymore.

Hi SuperAce609, yesterday I installed S5830BUKT2_S5830VODKT1_S5830XWKT8_HOME.tar.md5, erased Thinkfreeoffice with aromafm-1.80, rooted with upd_1.zip, installed CWM recovery, flashed BE kernel and int2ext+, updated superuser and Google play and all went like a charm. Ok so I had gt-s5830 for a year and a half and flashed lots of roms, but a few months ago it started doing some strange things that never happened before (all of these are on STOCK ROM, I faced it with DDKQ6 and XWKTM because I usually use these two but I bet it would do that on every firmware because it never did it before):
- when deodexing with adb permissions in /system/app always set to rw-rw-rw- instead of rw-r--r-- and it makes possible to adb-push and use system app without rebooting but it never did it before (both kq6-ktm)
- when flashing cf-root 3.7 b84 by ketut everything is fine (except for the next issue of the list), then if I try battery extender (based on cf-root b83 that also cause me this issue) it changes su command's permissions (as it says titanium backup) to wrong ones, and even if I fix them it will causes problems like soft brick if I use mobile odin and slow restore from titanium (never happened before) (both kq6-ktm)
- still on cf-root/battery extender, sometimes wifi turns on but just don't receive any data, and when it does, mobile data will not turn on anymore and offline mode gets stuck, it sometimes gets solved with a reboot but not everytime (both kq6-ktm)
- some init.d script just don't work, like on dta2sd that says to me that I need to do an a2sd repair, then swap and zipaligning at boot don't work (kq6-ktm) or even project silk and similars
- when I try to flash slaid's gpu rendering patch my phone just don't make it to reach even bootanimation and I need to reflash the whole firmware
these are the main problems I'm getting that never happened before... is it normal so I can do something to fix it or my phone just need to be changed because is getting old?

dear friend:
i didnt read all the issues ,because they are a lot , so if facing all this , simply stop using stock , specially for our ace there are so many smooth roms like merge rom and nitrogen and cm10.1 modded by mardon , plus there are many perfect scripts to make your phone smooth like hell ,hope that i helped

The problem is the stock rom itself & not your phone. When you root your stock using upd_1.zip & you flash an alternative kernel to support init.d scripts, the root begins to act weird. All I can say is, root on stock is unstable for changes. You can either keep complete stock or you can just flash a custom rom. Or if you root the stock, you'll have to keep changes within the limits.

Well I just tried two scenarios:
After all cwm wipes
Flashed stock ddkq6 and just rooted it without kernels then deodexed and again wrong permissions in /system/app
Same with xwktm
Flashed stock ddkq6 only changed kernel and after deodex same thing again
It may be not a problem but all the issues on my first post start with wrong permissions in system...

Try a different root explorer. I'm saying this because I sometimes have strange issues with ES file explorer. Also as far as I know, su doesn't integrate well into the stock ROMs. Try freeing up some space in system by deleting some bloatware. Try using SD maid pro. Finally, try a fix permissions via recovery. Probably this might solve your problem.

[ROM] [LB&UB] Rooted, Deodexed & Zipaligned Stock 10.3.1.A.2.67 Rom V2 [21/10]
Rooted, Deodexed and Zipaligned Sony stock 10.3.1.A.2.67 Flashable Rom V2!For Locked and Unlocked Bootloaders
Hi Everyone,
Here is a rooted, deodexed and zipaligned stock 10.3.1.A.2.67 (Generic NL unbranded) rom. A deodexed rom makes it easier to modify apks and jars without having to worry about those pesky odex files. It should also make installing mods from the Themes & Apps section easier as well
Hope you like it
Rom features:
> Rooted with the latest SuperSU
> Deodexed for easier modding
> Zipaligned for optimised RAM usage
> Init.d script support (scripts can tweak system settings for better performance)
> Very smooth and fast
> XZDualRecovery included
Changelog
Stock 10.3.1.A.2.67 Rooted, Deodexed & Zipaligned V2 (21/10)
-Cleaned up some stuff
-Based on Generic NL .67 firmware (less bloatware)
-Added init.d script support
-Included XZDualRecovery

Click to collapse
Installation instructions:
If you're already running the 10.3.1.A.2.67 stock rom:
Copy the rom to your microSD
Backup any important data to your microSD
Boot into recovery and do a nandroid backup first
If you have CWM: select Wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache, go into 'mounts and storage' and select Format /system, then /data, then /cache
If you have TWRP: select Wipe then Advanced Wipe, tick Dalvik Cache, System, Cache and Data then wipe.
Install the rom and enjoy!
*the first boot will take a while just be patient
If you're running 10.3.1.A.0.244 or any previous firmware:
Copy the rom to your microSD
If you have the C6603/C6606 model download this file https://mega.co.nz/#!bIIDHJrB!Fk1iBgtMnmprlQNT2CP6YQcTdQc845spF0UfVsInYGc (15.2 MB) and drop it into your Flashtool firmwares folder on your PC
If you have the C6602 model download this file https://mega.co.nz/#!qIRxkAZb!RPqRCjwQQ0uw6tA5QrSAqh9rpJ4xt1Lx0uDstVsYsFI (15.3 MB) and drop it into your Flashtool firmwares folder on your PC
Now this is the important part, flash the rom as usual BUT DON'T REBOOT AFTER IT'S FINISHED, instead turn off the phone, in CWM it's in Advanced>Power Off, in TWRP it's in Reboot>Power OFF
Connect your phone in Flashmode (hold volume key down while plugging in USB)
Flash everything in the C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf or C6602_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf (depending on your model) in Flashtool
Turn on phone and enjoy!
If you're running any CM/AOSP based rom:
Follow the exact same steps for If you're running 10.3.1.A.0.244 or any previous firmware above.
Update instructions:
Coming from Stock 10.3.1.A.2.67 Rooted, Deodexed and Zipaligned V1:
Copy 'Stock_Generic_NL_10.3.1.A.2.67_deodexed_V2.zip' to your microSD
Boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup

Mine is usually fast (like 40Mbps), but I can't download it in order to upload it.
By the way, good work, I know you didn't throw in mods, or make your own, but that's what I like, completely stock, but de-odexed so we can choose what stuff to add ourselves.
Kinda-ish like my ROM, before I discontinued it (My laptop broke, and I didn't have anything else).

Could you make the recovery a separate flash? As some people like to use DooMKernel or other kernels, as opposed to this "built-in" recovery. Also, this uses TWRP; a lot of people don't like that.
