What is the difference between the Semaphore_kernel_JVZ_2.1.1.tar and the Semaphore_kernel_JVZ_2.1.1bm.tar kernal?
Also, what is the advantage of a kernal like this over the stock?

The bm stands for bigmem which means it has an extra 17mb(or around this i cant remember the exact number) but it comes at the cost of 720p video recording.
edit: i just checked its 13mb

And the difference between a kernal like this and the stock one?
The stock kernel can't overclock and doesn't support backlight notifications, voodoo sound, etc.
Basically the Semaphore kernel adds a lot more features to your phone as opposed to the stock kernel so there's really no reason to not switch over from stock

Nice! So, are these changes automatic or built within the kernal or do you have to go out and get a separate app to make them?

The features are enabled automatically through the kernel. Once you install Semaphore, there should be an app installed that lets you control these features, but you might have to install some extra apps from the market for other things such as overclocking and voodoo sound/screen
Hello there lovely's.
OK, so yesterday I installed Darks 10.2.2 on my SGS, but I have a few noob-ish questions as this is the FIRST time I've ever flashed a ROM..
1) whats better, 10.2 or 10.2.2?
2) why has some of my data from int. SD been left over?
3) Why Can't I overclock with DarkCore 2.9.3 Kernel? Do I need a different one? If so whats a really good and fast one?
Thanks.
anyone?

Hi,
I rooted my phone and I installed gingercruzt with xrecovery.
I noticed that some roms specified a kernel to be intall.
My actual kernel is " 2.6.29-FF ".
How do we know which kernel to download to remplace the original one ?
Is there something special to do before installing custom kernel ?
With a new kernel can I play games by example that I couldn't play with the original one ?
Thank you
To install custom kernel you just need to unlock your bootloader nothing else

Changing kernel just helps you to improve performance of your phone. Now most of the roms require custom kernel. And about playing games you won't still be able to play HD Games thanks to our poor processor but yes there would be increased performance so a better experience in gaming and everything else..

It depends of the cROM. The developer will give you a list of the recommended kernels for his cROM, so before install anything read all the post
Just upgraded my I9000 to 2.3.6 JW4 and added a rooted kernel.
Since no kernel with features are available for this firmware, what hacks can I make manually?
Stuff like Voodoo sound, BLN, etc. (links to the corresponding threads would be nice).
Thanks.
Voodoo sound.. Search up in market

Did u try these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24256059&postcount=448
Yeh those mods worked a treat for me - I also installed this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571527
Odex version worked for me - my favourite aspect: landscape home that actually rotates quickly for once
This (and plants vs zombies) is giving me a hard time deciding whether to go back to aokp ics ...
That rom started randomly freezing up on my so restored to a nandroid version with just the mods - still enjoying jw4, contemplating slim ics...

Don't I need a kernel with Voodoo support for this? Or having root is enough?

Voodoo Sound Plus doesn't need kernel support. Just having root is enough, though it's a paid app.
Also consider installing ThunderBolt! for some speed/battery life increase
pantrif13 has some good hacks and themes for jw4

Most custom roms for mini 2 like cyanogenmod does not support overclock. Will just unlock the stock processor speed 1Ghz. I said that, because if you select an higher value phone will crash or reboot.
Just stock rom can be overclocked up to 1,12 Ghz and cm9 at 1,1 Ghz.
Also brian kernel can be installed on stock rom (but camcorder will not work) and cm10.1 but wifi and camera will not work. Brian kernel have 411 mb Ram avaiable for OS.
Also, to make this phone fast you should be rooted and deodexed and rom should be zipalligned with int.d scripts. To boost OS speed use squadzone kernel. To improve rom stability flash lastest 2014 rom from samsung (branded movistar). /Or another rom, but you will also need to de-bloatware it (deleting useless apps/files)
If you need more help just tell me

1)To root mini 2 is enough to install clockworkmod recovery and reboot phone. If you're not rooted it will ask you if you want to write su (superuser) binary.
To overclock stock rom you will need to install squadzone's kernel from an custom recovery like cwm or twrp.
2) Mini 2 does not have full working custom roms like stock rom. Cyanogenmod 10.1 rom have problems with fm radio and whitescreen. Well, all mini 2 cm have that problems.
If you decided to use cm10.1 and you want to boost it , delete useless apps (not neessary apps), like voice dialer or vpn config, gmail, dev tools, and other apps that you don't use.
Also, I need to mention here that all mini 2 custom roms have a problem with camcorder performance. It will lag while you rec. a video. I noticed , the bad video performance on cm10.1 and higher like cm10.2, cm11 (games have graphical issues instead stock rom) .
Else I don't know what to do to boost cm...
Playstore promoted apps in app or ads will just clear ram, and tell you to delete useless user apps.
There are 2 kind of apps:
-user apps (installed from playstore, sdcard, ext. sdcard, adb...)
-system apps (preinstalled rom apps, like phone , internet browser..., this apps can be deleted from rom .zip , before you flash it/ or if you're rooted, download root browser and go to system/app and delete what you want.)
Just search on internet (google) squadzone kernel mini 2 s6500, and flash it.
Tell me if you don't found it. I have it saved on my sdcard, and I will upload it.

Squadzone kernel does not have bugs till MD1 PDA verdsion.
If you flash MK1 ROM, wifi will be broken. A fix for that is avaiable on dev forum.
Last summer I've tried to flash squadzone's kernel into CyanogenMod 10.1 but I had a bootloop!
