Hi ,
First I'd like to say hello to everybody here. I'm new at this forum (and not a very intelligent one)
I just bought a TyTNII and been reading these forums trying to gather as much info as possible but unfortunately most of it is beyond my intellectual power.
I found people that hate the phone, people that loves it and people that modified/upgraded it to make it more powerful, faster, etc.
I wonder if there is any link (movil phones for Dummies???) where I can learn some stuff since there are a lot of terms that I don't understand.
May be I can ask here some of my questions and some willing soul might spare some time to help...
I intend to use this phone mostly with Skype (through WiFi) but I'd like to get the most out of it.
So, are there any upgrades (Rom or anything else) that I need to do or should I use it as is?
I been reading about all these different roms people post here but to be honest I'm not 100% sure what are they (I guess they are upgrades for windows) but I don't understand why people design these and not the official Microsoft.
Anyway, too many questions at once. If I get any replis to this one I might be encourage to ask again
Thanks,
Fernando
Read this ROM Flashing FAQ To learn more about roms..
Go through the Kaiser Wiki theres a lot of information there.
Thanks, I'll give it a read
i just dont get this. i have been a member for 2 months and im just as lost as i was when i started. if i ask 1 of the people who know what to do they say search or gtfo. i search and end up more confused. the threads arent very friendly to a person just starting out like me. all of the language is written for people who already no what their doing. its not dumbed down at all. i think i will just use this site to download roms and themes since thats all i can seem to do
I am not trying to attack you or anything, but what is the purpose of this thread?
There are a lot of helpful people around here, maybe you aren't putting your questions in the Q&A thread? Or they aren't worded properly so people know how to assist you.... IDK.
Seeing as this is the only thread you have ever started here, I can't really say that it looks like you have posted much requesting help. I see one post where you were having problems flashing a new recovery image, but it looks like you probably just entered either the file name or path wrong. Or you didn't save the file in the root of your sdcard.
But, also, seeing as this is the XDA-Developers forum.... a certain level of knowledge seems to be expected by a lot of the members. I really don't see where anyone has told you to search or GTFO, in fact, I didn't really notice any responses to your posts.
If you want people to help you, post in the proper section and form coherent, explanatory questions.

See, another helpful person offering assistance..
This place isn't all that bad, now is it?
The issue is this I think...
Generally, you need to know something of what you are doing. The reasons are simple;
1) If things start to go wrong, you need to understand enough about the process to at least be able to follow instructions without them having to be written in a specific button-by-button manner,
2) People who blindly follow instructions are bound to miss a step or screw one up simply because they don't understand the instructions (this goes back to #1).
If you are a regular user of an android device, I suggest sticking with a stock build -- they are meant for people who know nothing about the platform. If you are an advanced user, you should be able to get the "gist" of things and fill in the blanks where necessary.
I'm not telling you to gtfo, what I'm telling you is that you really need to think about YOUR level of understanding of how things happen. If you aren't advanced enough to be able to fill in a few blanks here and there, then you might want to think about what you are doing, which is essentially putting a fairly expensive piece of technology into the hands of people you don't know and have no reason to trust. You also have to realize that the instructions that you get from here don't go through months of QA to verify that they are perfectly correct with no chance of, for example, bricking your phone. It is very possible that you could see a bunch of instructions that tell you what to do, but that the author maybe accidentally forgot to include a critical step, and it is absolutely UP TO YOU to be able to see that there is a missing step.
I concur. I have had numerous people ask me for help rooting their g1's. Some I help because they are computer literate and have hacked or altered software on other platforms and hardware. Those that have asked that still need help when basic things go wrong in a windows platform, I say no and tell them to enjoy their Android phone. If they are willing to dive in and learn, my offer may change down the road
What do you need help with?
Recently I started using an all in one DJ solution finding out that it uses Linux totally stoked then find out the company that makes this has just recently been sold many of the people in the forum have all decided to try to ask for the Linux OS as an open-source fearing this is probably not going to happen because the new company is a very large company. They're most likely not going to do anything else with this device at this time I thought of you all of course because I use you and have been using you to modify my android devices also linux based so just wanted to see if it was possible for you all or for any of the super awesome developers to get the kernel or whatever it is to make it possible to mod this device. I do know that on the web page they did release an update before they were bought and it tells you how to get the device in to the mode to upload , possible starting point , so in an end this is a Stanton scs.4dj let me know would so be stoked and so would so many others.
If you want to try and help please look up the Stanton SCS.4DJ
On the support tab for that deck there is an update file that I believe might give us an idea where to start with the device.
Thank you all in advance for looking and attempting anything you do try.
Hello all! I jump from phone to phone when ever I can catch a broken one to fix for nearly free. I recently ran into an HTC HD 7 and am not really vibing to the windows mobile 7, and from what I read there is not currently a pre made rom available for installing android on this device. I am pretty technologically advanced and feel confident given the right direction on how to accomplish this I would be capable of creating one. I have read a lot of information but am some what lost mainly because of some of the lingo terminology, being that I haven't hacked/developed outside of the ios platform. I can program in just about any c based language. Any one got ne thing that can help me out here? If I build one how would I install it or go about uploading it to the device? Thanks in advance for any replies I do greatly appreciate all your time! I apologize about the noobness like I said ios is whats been available to me for the past few years, and now I want android like a kid wants candy!!!

Developers/programmers have been trying to figure out how to dual boot the HD7 (like the HD2) since it came out. The main problem seems to be how WP7 is compiled .NET and C#. WP7 securitys still aren't fully unlocked.
Take a look at the Project Haret thread, they seem to be making some progress at it and if you have the know how, maybe you can contribute.

Thanks for the heads up, appreciate the reply, btw where is the thanks button? sorry this is my second post here. I started to do some research into it. I believe the answer is in the coredll.dll file which may be stating the obvious. I think the way to go about accessing this or at least what I am going to try is an attempt to gain root access with my device tethered to my comp from terminal.

Your welcome! I've read through the whole Project Haret thread and there is alot of information, (some way to complicated for me) trial and error and it looks like as of recent there has been some good progress towards getting Haret to perform and (hopefully) run kernel mode and actually boot the kernel. You might be right, give it a shot or maybe put it on the thread and see what kind of feed back you get on it!
Is your device unlocked yet so that you can gain access to it and try it out?
Personally I would love to see the HD7 dual boot WP7 and Android. Don't get me wrong... I thoroughly enjoy WP7 and love my HD7it's very smooth, fast, stable and not once has it crashed on me. I believe that it would bring a longer life experience to the device and make it that much more versatile, especially since we're nearing the end of official support.
The thanks button should be there now, under the posts.

Ok so I realize I might sound like an idiot considering everything I said can be found within the haret documentation. I originally read something found on google with inaccurate information after you told me about the project, come to find out the information I read was in no way affiliated with the the actual project haha. Forgive my stupidy, I began to read and follow along the documaton for it at htc-linux.org, the only thing I am having issue with is obtaining haretconsole to explore the device. The link on the documentation I believe no longer exists, and I can't find a source anywhere! This is pretty good stuff though thanks for linking me up with it! Have you installed the development tools or haretconsole on a linux OS by chance? I was successful with the developement tools, just need to figure out this haretconsole problem. BTW which desktop OS do you prefer?
Sadly I can't tell if my device is unlocked yet haha. I work at a university doing LAN Administration currently and used my .edu e-mail to register as a developer. I then registered my device but don't see a single difference or maybe I just am doing something wrong. How do you suggest going about that(unlocking it that is, I don't care about it being official, just figured official would be easlier)? Also for the iPhone there is a desktop application which allows you to access the filesystem called iFunBox, is there anything similar for the wp7?
I would just love android lol, I like the HTC HD7 and have always been a fan of HTC products, It definately is pretty smooth and compared to my previous device a 3gs it's lightening fast! 3g isn't supported with the 3gs on t-mobile either. My biggest issue with wp7 is the fact it doesn't do anything I want to be done in a device, I use my mobile browser ALOT and I have never seen a browser period with this many bugs, I installed safari but it's not even the same lol! For the most part I strongly strongly dislike anything related to microsoft, but unfortunately I have to work with the windows platform quite often because of my job. There just such a dirty/shady/grimmy company period, I saw a commercial yesterday advertising bing where they claimed 2 out of three people choose bing over google in a blind study............how can they advertise that when they stole googles code! lol. Also it was a pretty dirty business move of microsoft to do what your talking about with the wp8. They claim there going to continue support on 7 but we both know they all say that and do put the effort towards the legacy system for a short period of time before cutting it. Screwing Nokia out of major growth potential within the U.S. while going back on the promise made to them regarding free upgrades to 8 for 7 devices. I think they feel like there invincible just because they currently run the desktop OS market share. I think their will likely be a major change in the preferred OS within the next 10 years, just because I work in an 30,000 user enterprise that refuses to upgrade their liscensing with microsoft because of windows 8's inability to meet our needs.
Sorry if this message way to long haha

Sorry its taken me so long to get back with you... Been crazy busy!
Unfortunetly I only have Windows OS, PC and Laptop. Funny enough though, I just got my laptop back from the shop a couple weeks ago and I had to have the harddrive replaced. Last week my PC got the BSOD (blue screen of death) and I had to completly wipe and restore it.
My next computer will be a Linux OS forsure. I wish I had one currently to install Haret and play around with it!
The student registration is limited and you can only sideload a max of 3 unasigned apps. You would be better off to fully unlock your device and install a custom rom, this will give you more options to sideload as many unasighned apps as you want in the form of XAP's through IE. Access to the registry/file system and to apply hack and tweaks. you can then familurize yourself with the OS and file system.
I can help walk you through the unlock process, it's pretty easy.
Go to settings, about, more info. post back all the information from that screen. Enter your device into bootloader mode - Power device off, hold down the volume down button and power the device back on, while continuing to hold down the volume down button, this will bring you into BL mode a tri-colored screen. Post back the information from that screen also.We can go from there. The proccess to unlock it basicially is to downgrade the SPL to 3.xxx or lower to install RSPL/HSPL wich will allow flashing of a custom rom.
My IE works excellent. It might be due to what build version that your device is running on. Either way once we get it unlocked there's custom roms running on Tango 8779 build with nice features and the device runs buttery smooth. there's also more mobile browsers available to install once it's unlocked, Opera Mobile,UC browser and a bunch more. There's all kinds of XAP's you can install to cusromize the device and enhance the user experience.
Totaly agree with you on the Android development for WP7 and the above statement regarding MS

Do not ask for an ETA
Once the mods start getting onto people for asking, I'll take my dev work off site. I don't want to upset mods and admin over people being impatient.
I've been looking and root isn't available yet for the Snapdragon version. I've created root access for a few devices so far, be it years ago. I want root, so I've decided to start dev work on my own. Can't say how long it will take, or if I will be able to, but anyone that is willing to test or help, feel free to comment and say so, since help would be greatly appreciated. Testers are needed.
First off though, what advancements have been made so far? Several posts I've seen have dead links to data, so to start, I'll need to know what's been done already. No need to reproduce failed outcomes.
Reserved for future links.

One guy flashed a combination version of the firmware and got the OEM unlock toggle to show on a SM-G960U. It switched on and off but I am not sure if it actually unlocked the bootloader or not. There is a TWRP already ported to the Snapdragon version as well, although only for the Chinese and Hong Kong version, it should work on our device if you can get the bootloader unlocked first. I have been scouring online and in the forums since the phone came out and that's all I nave found thus far. Im sure you already know these things, but I figured I would say it just in case you weren't aware. Hope you get it figured out! Good luck! ?
The only development I've heard of is one user claiming he got a diagnostic boot with SElinux permissive. (In the S9 root dev forum/thread) I also have a source who is NOT trying to be identified publicly because he works for google, but he informed me that "the android O build for SAMSUNG DEVICES, was developed with special instructions in it to automatically kick a KERNEL PANIC , if ANY app NOT on some internal White List attempts to access, modify, or send SU commands through any NOT LISTED app with those permissions granted already." ... now I'm not an Android level programmer, but I'm an old Linux dev/ penetration systems tester (lol) and from what I am gathering is that the patches or whatever that Samsung added to the O.S. also included an encrypted or hidden white list, which he says is VERY small, (as in number of items actually in the list) , but even he said they do not have any access nor knowledge of where they stored this. He did tell me that they delivered an incomplete or infant code for Samsung Snapdragon Model Note 8,9 and s8,9, and it was so crude that not only would it not compile because of missing crap Samsung deliberately did not supply them with... but he said that it was NOT lockable in that state, so Samsung either inserted their own locked kernel and whatever to create this B.S. broke down version of Android that is Root crippled. BUT the only clue he could give me was that "On no level can an E-fuse provide an unbreakable chain of trust, and that if an extreme modded were to actually break down the system board of an S9, they could in theory remove or add some sort of device that would bypass the Qualcomm Secure boot completely!" ... now this ain't a best friend or nothing so truthfully I'm surprised I got this much from him... but I've known who he was and that hes worked for Google nearly 12 years as a developer and software engineer. So I dont know if any of that info helps... but my contribution is that I can get my device (s9+ from Sprint USA Sm-g965U) replaced with little to no hassle, so I'm 100% willing to do any tests u need, providing that you give me at least a basic level of instruction, as to each set of commands or package u want me to flash. I'm pretty android savvy considering it's just a linux derivative... and I know Samsung 100% .. I've had every S - galaxy since day 1 . BUT throwing blind commands at my device that I have 0 understanding of their impact, makes me feel like a squirrel running across the freeway during rush hour! Plz Do me a favor and shoot me a private message and I'll give you my cell number and email so u can reach me quicker when you have something u need tested! Now please people don't berate me if something he said to me was not correct or you have different data to disprove what he said. I literally took notes by hand and had him confirm them, so I'm just the messenger/informant and u gotta realize that as a google employee, he #1 is partially not knowledgeable of ways to exploit the O.S. which is what the hackers come into play for. And make the developers work **** tons harder to FIX the hole the ****ed up in the 1st place! ? Lol... and #2. I did ask about the possibility of a $$$$ number he would take in order to provide an actual Eng-boot like that of the S8, and he said that "Those are developed by each individual corporation after they are provided the build source code", and that "google has no interest in possessing or archiving any such file because the O.S. does not need it to provide a developers version of the O.S., which is as far as Google goes in providing a new system to the companies.... so for something like that, reach out to one of the underpaid factories full of workers and I'm sure they would happily give you what you want for much cheaper than you imagine!" Ok that was very long winded but I wanted to cover all I could because I prob wont check this thread anymore.... plz PM me bro so I can get you my info ... and let's put this Flashing Guinea Pig (me) to work in getting this ***** at least hack rooted or maybe full!!!
Hello, i've just finished reading all above and from what I've read I can tell that not all hopes are lost as well I'm offering my help to be a (TESTER) for any attempts you wanna try, however, please note that I'm NO DEV just a user who would like to his phone rooted ASAP that's all, so please explain the commands that you would give me and the steps. plz PM me so I can get you my contact info
It ain't happening with the known exploits.
Ok, so far I have a few routes I plan to take that have worked on other devices. Working on the first, but not at the moment. The rude comment compelled me to post my own. Devs don't follow old ways of doing things so get that out of your head if you want to think forward, not backwards. I have found what could be an exploit in the rom itself that "might" be the starting point to get root access. This is NOT an ETA but hopefully we can start testing in the next few weeks.
I'll say it now, don't get overly excited a possible exploit has been found. I make no guarantee on it being THE exploit needed. Just be patient, and if you have insight on a way to attack this or another possible exploit, do say so.
If anyone knows of the bootloader partition already having been copied, post a link. I share mine at the moment so I don't always have it around, so any of the bootloader data would help greatly.

Myself and a handful of other people involved in us snapdragon s8/s8+/n8+ took a brief crack at it a little while ago to no avail. I don't want to go into too many details on here as 1) Samsung is watching surely and 2) the contents from the peanut gallery get old quick but here are the cliff notes. Feel free to pm me here or on telegram for more details. (Backstory on me, I created samfail which was the first/only n8 root method and the second for the s8/s8+ and the only published one beyond bootloader v1.
- samfail is 100% patched. No known way to modify system
- you can't mix combo boot with stock images anymore. Samsung got wise to that. Figured out how to track it if we can force write a system image
- there is a ton of new system level security because they had to move out of the boot image due to treble. Probably the first big nail in the coffin I'm.
- don't waste your time on the oem unlock toggle in the combo/factory rom. No it doesn't unlock the bootloader. The us snapdragons don't respect it's value outside of turning off frp, but that was with the s8 idk if it is still true on the s9.
- the other poster is right about the anti root thing. It's in the open source kernel code. If anything being exexuted under uid 0 matches a list of common/known root mods/not stuff that is supposed to be there, instant kernel panic. Things like "binary is called BusyBox" are on that list.
This was the point I gave up. Partially because I don't have the device so testing is extremely difficult (I wised up this year and purchased a intl. Snapdragon sm-g9650 which has full oem unlock just like the exy).
In sure there's things in forgetting right now and again, being too transparent here results in root method bring patched faster, hit me up if you want more brain dump

Although I have seen a lot worse on these threads, his comment was pretty negative, which is what we do not need in this thread. I wish people would just keep their thoughts to themselves if they have nothing to add to the discussion. I also will test so let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
i also have a g965u and have been trying various mwthods to no avail at this point.. we need new exploits to be found.. all the obvious stuff will not work

You cannot buy Exynos from a carrier. You have to buy directly from Samsung for that. I know because I requested a Exynos variant. Sprint said they couldn't (or wouldn't) give me one.
edit: nvm not worth it.

i talked to samsung a couple months ago before i got my s9 and they told me they wont sell you one directly with the Exynos. I was going to get the s8 with the exynos if they would of sold me one. They wouldn'ty so i bought a tmobile s9 with my carrier.
