I can cast video from that site using Android Chrome on my mobile. Load up the video, hit full screen, and the cast icon should appear.
Alternatively BubbleUpNp should be able to cast net based streams.
Alternatively you should be able to tab cast from Desktop Chrome.

It works!
It's so easy! thank you

Better Way To Stream Local Video?

Does anyone know if there is a better way to play local video through Chromecast? I know we can play certain video types through the Chrome browser but it seems to create noticeable frame dropping.

In the chrome extension for casting the tab, there is a drop down next to where it says BETA. In the drop down you can change setting between tab and the whole screen.

Playing the video in the browser with Plex and then casting that works great.
Yea but native plex will be better. In my case my pc is not near my bedroom TV with the Chromecast so I would have to get up walk all the way to the pc bla bla to get it done like that.
I'm not putting casting down because it's been quite smooth for me put I can't wait for native plex.

i'd like a casting button to be built into mx player. that way, i can can browse samba shares from my server/nas from es file explorer and play the video with mx player, then cast to the screen. is that possible?

I had some strange aspect ratio problems when I tried this. Admittedly I only played around with it for 10 minutes.

Not as of today. If the devs add it in (and Google approves the app) it is possible.

I do something similar with the BubbleUPnP app. My Dish Hopper and Asus Cube are DLNA capable so I choose one of those as my rendering device. Then I pick my shared videos as the source. The built-in media players of the Hopper and Cube then play the files over my local network that I select on my tablet. This also works for files on my tablet if I choose that as a source. I don't think this will work with Chromecast, though, as it is not DLNA capable nor does it support many codecs out of the gate.
When the Chromecast service gets pushed to the Google TV devices this fall, they will fill most everyone's needs. It will give the DLNA support for local files and the internet streaming capabilities of Chromecast with device control. If they also make a mobile PrimeTime app, then you will no longer need to use D-pad navigation for large libraries or channel guides.

VGET + AVIA + Chromecast = awesome!!!

I was trying to access my network storage and was running into issues with it. That's when i learned about VGET and the awesomeness of it.
Link to vget: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mb.videoget *
Prerequisites:
- must have chromecast suppported video's (i converted all our family video's using handbrake to compatible formats.)
- must have avia with casting enabled via in-app buy
- must have chromecast
- must have a tv!
Setup:
- Download vget from link above.
- open vget and in options menu, choose avia as the default video player for streaming videos from settings option.
- in vget options menu, disable desktop/flash mode (as flv can not be casted to chromecast)
How to stream local network video's on your router usb storage:
- get the http link to access your router. For netgear routers it is http://readyshare.routerlogin.net/shares
- open vget and browse to above url, and then keep drilling it to the MP4 you need
- when you open MP4 url on vget, it will give a popup to stream the video. Click it.
That's it! VGET will open avia and cast your video to chromecast with no hicups!
How to stream chromecast compatible internet video's
- open the website from where you need to stream a video, in VGET
- Instead of the video placeholder in the webpage, VGET will render a download type (down facing arrow) on the webpage.
- click on the downwards facing arrow image on the webpage and VGET will give an option to stream it.
- click the stream button.
That's it! VGET will open avia and cast your video to chromecast with no hicups!
I was able to play all my compatible local video's and most of internet video's directly.
Now this makes chromecast really really useful....

Both are diiferent...
plex can't stream videos embedded in websites. Also plex needs an additional server to run to be useful.
Where as vget and avia can be used anywhere to cast videos...
Plex is for transcoding video on runtime..which vget cant do.
So plex meets a need, but is not answer to everything.
So there is a difference

That's the main sticking point I have with Plex. I don't always want to turn on my PC, which takes 70 - 100 watts just to stream a video through Plex player using the required Plex Media Server. I often just want to use an USB drive, or an external hard drive connected to a wireless router that has DNLA and stream videos from there. Avia works fine for that. Avia can also see the Plex server and it looks really nice. But again, I don't want to turn on the PC just to stream videos.
I would like to get a small NAS server under $300. All have DNLA support but none I found that can be used to run Plex Media Server so far.
Unable to get VGET + AVIA + Chromecast to stream a few days ago but it did download the video. Tried it again yesterday on the same video(I think) and it wouldn't do nothing!! Vget wouldn't play the video from my PC either. Not sure what's going on. App interaction or an update on something doomed the process.

I have a synology NAS with the ability to install plex (DS211J). Cost was about $300 with drives. I just set up a chromecast in combination with avia and it works like a charm to play local media so long as the format is capable of being played.

No need to thinker with XBMC on Android thanks to this combo.
Do you know what's the access link for a router that has ddwrt on it? it was a dlink 615 but I guess it changed after I flashed ddwrt.

Spend a bit of time to familiarise yourself with the website and the content in the desktop browser. VGET works the same way.
Funny I just kind of figured this combo out myself when I downloaded Vget a couple days ago and saw that it gave me Avia as a player option. For those saying it does nothing when clicking to stream other than taking it to Avia, that happens to me sometimes. It's kind of frustrating I have to try the same web video several times before it will finally play on Avia instead of just taking it to the default Avia screen. I always have little issues with Chromecast and Avia though. My phone always 'disconnects' from Chromecast even though things keep playing on my TV..but I can no longer control it. I go back into an app and re-connect to Chromecast and it starts videos over. I wonder if it's because my phone is old..Galaxy Nexus.
If only Chromecast supported more codec's because only few 1 channel and project free tv links work like Gorillavid works but not Putlocker.

[Q] udp stream to Chromecast

Hello,
from yesterday I have Chromecast and I have one question.
My internet provider streams also TV. I can watch it on Android with MXplayer and on PC with VLC. Tv is streamed e.g. with address udp://@239.255.0.30:5000
Can I somehow stream it to Chromecast from my tablet?

Native screen casting to Chromecast is here!
The list of supported devices is short, but there is [EXPERIMENTAL] Enable Mirroring from any device to enable it for unsupported devices (note that many devices/ROMs will not work - there are likely legitimate reasons the official list is short).
If you can't do native mirroring, you can try mirror4cast though when I tried it, it was more like watching a slideshow than a video.
Also VLC has stated that they will support the CCast in some future release....
So that maybe another option once they get it up and running.

Yes, I tried this, it is one of the solutions.
But my tablet has ratio 16:10 and TV is 16:9, so video is not in fullscreen is adapted to the height and quality is not so good.

turn old device into Chromecast

I have a note 2 with a cracked screen that's too expensive to fix at the mo and was wondering if there's a way to turn it into a Chromecast for my kitchen TV?
I will order a HDMI dongle if it's possible. I'd like it to have Chromecast functionality rather than manually using the device to select stuff.

You can turn it in to a dlna device using bubbleupnp. Install it on the note and on the device your gonna stream from.
It's not the same as chromecast (cast function in apps won't work). But you can stream movies, music, SoundCloud and youtube with it.

Both, i got an old android tvstick with bubbleupnp installed in my bedroom and i stream stuff from my server, tablet and showbox (last one is a internet stream).
You need to choose a external video player in bubbleupnp on your note to watch movies. I use Archos video player and the free codecpack in the playstore

Yes, AFAIK the Cast SDK 2.0 release had some device-specific key/identifier requirement that sunk the software emulators.

Currently the only PC screen to Chromecast mirroring is via the Chrome browser's beta Cast extension. You can cast entire desktop.
Note that...
Performance depends on both network throughput and available CPU power
Desktop cast is limited to 720p - any resolution higher than that will have to be downscaled, resulting in further reduced framerate and quality
There is perceivable delay
It may not work with all full-screen playback methods
Long story short, it's probably not going to work well for what you want to do. Sorry. I'd like to have the same (Chromecast DVD/Blu-ray playback) but so far, no dice.
I think DreamStream might play BD/DVDs, but it's a subscription and I'm generally averse to subscription software.

Current the best method i use is VideoStream Chrome app, though you do have to pay.(either monthly, yearly, or lifetime):cyclops:
@grimloktt : Cast video from PC to chromecast ? Easy with Android app as BubbleUPnP, or Plex, or AllCast... In fact, any Android app which support DLNA + chromecast. On your PC install Universal Media Server. Then, your PC + Android + Chromecast must be connected on same local network.
Not available yet but the devs for VLC have stated they intend to support CCast streaming in the future so keep an eye out for that...
With Chrome browser with Videostream extension you can play easily full hd 1080p better than bubble and others
(too more lag and freeze with 1080p) ! (Need to open ports on pc)
Edit: ports to open TCP 5556/5558, see Help in window of Videostream for more
