I know I am new here and have been asking a question for a couple of days now and I would think with this many members at least someone would step up to the plate an offer some help or tell me where to go for being a newbie. Come on now I sure could use some help here. Please?

It would be a lot more productive if you actually posted what you needed help with...

At least someone out here is alive

Thanks for the reply. I have for the past 2 days in a row. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini SM-G730A with a locked bootloader that I need to figure out how to get unlocked so I can change carrier on. I love the phone and want to keep it but my patience has all but worn thin on. I have tried just about everything I can find out on the internet on and nothing has worked so far.

If you searched through some of the threads regarding the SM--G730A you would've learned that it's bootloader is not unlocked yet, and there exists no way to unlock it as of yet. I don't think any active developers have that phone either, and to my knowledge only a recovery has been built for the phone (but you can't flash it because of the locked bootloader), only root has been achieved for your phone.
The phone you have isn't the S3 Mini here (the S3 mini here is the GT-I8190), Samsung's naming conventions are really stupid at times - your phone and the GT-I8190 have nothing in common outside of it's name. I think the GT-I8190 was marketed heavily overseas in Europe and such, whereas your model's only available in the States and Canada.

Thanks for the reply

Just a tip - search through xda to see if there's any active development on your phone, it'll save you a crapload of trouble, and I'd also avoid verizon and at&t phones in general because of their tendency to lock boot-loaders, I notice the google play edition of phones and the t-mobile versions tend to have unlocked boot-loaders and have better support.
Oh and google's dropped the price on the Nexus 5, about $320 usd for the 16gb, if you're interested and have the money.

Thanks Again

Hi; Vivid fans
I am looking at buying a new phone i am currently using my Samsung Infuse.
I have have been reading your forum for a couple of days no and i have a couple of questions. I am leaning towards the Vivid
Now that the phone can be unlocked can the Raider Roms be used on the AT&T phones?
Do you think now that the phone can be unlocked will there be more Devs,Roms and just over all action in the Forum?
I like my Infuse but I have all ways been a fan of HTC and would like to come back over.
Thank You,

Unlock just happened, so its hard to tell. But before unlock there were a few devs saying they would make ROMs once it got unlocked.

I for one have been waiting for this to happen. I knew it was a matter of time, but the real issue was with how long. I can finally retire my N1 and may just run over to the AT&T store to pick one up tonight.
There was alot of angst going on here on these forums over the lack of a proper root, but now with hboot now being open it's become a viable platform again.
Once I have one in hand, may end up posting my N1 up for sale on the forums to keep the old but still free Android flagship flying.
You should also take into consideration that this is a Sense-based phone so you're bound to have many potential devs looking for a new platform to bring their roms from other devices to the first ATT LTE HTC phone. I mean Desire HD has a ton of devs that could really take off with the Holiday/Raider/Vivid.

I recieved my One on Friday, and been debating whether or not to root since I cut the seal.
If you rooted, convince me.
If you kept it stock convince me to.

Why do you suggest that I stay stock?
I am not a n00b or anything... I am just leary of HTC knowing what I am doing (i.e. voiding my warranty)
Yeah Dude, no one in here will "convince " you to root or not. If you are asking that question especially in this Forum you should not root and stay stock.
I just rooted mine to test out that logo to menu button but I couldn't because of the update.I'm just rooted waiting on a perfect rom with the updated base

LOL Definitely a NOOB, less that 50 post is a noob, besides HTC doesn't care what you do with your phone, In fact.. they give you the tools to unlock the bootloader on htcdev.
My advice ..stay stock. and have fun customizing your device on mycolorscreen.com

I rooted after a week, but I could personally care less if you root yours or not. If you aren't new, then you should already know what to do.
Personally I think it is a little deeper than the question you pose. To me it is all about pushing Android itself to better places and thus having wonderful developers in here doing just that. Supporting the developers as they help mold Android into the best it can be is what it is all about. HTC and other manufacturers do take note of what is going on by the developers on this website and thus, it is helping to mold Android to better things. That is just my humble feelings on that.
In saying all of that, I have not even rooted yet...LOL!!! I always root and support the devs but I will feel way more comfortable when that 4.2 update hits this phone to do so. I thought we had it for a sec there with that first update. Not real sure why I feel this way other than feeling all warm a cozy and to settle in on a particular rom and kernnel. I am not what you would call a flash junkie so when I flash something I like it to be at least based on the latest Android version if possible. And I am a dummy at this dev stuff so there ya go my 2 cents. :silly:

This forum isn't dead. The phone has been out for literally just over a month and we already have 4 custom TW ROM's and 7 AOSP based ROM's as well as several kernels available as well.
Plus, as time goes on, more and more devs will get their hands on this phone which will make things even more crazy.
Not trying to be a **** here, but honestly, what do you expect......the phone comes out and suddently there are 30 ROM's out for it?
Sometimes it's a good sign - means folks don't have many problems with it and/or it has a decent stock experience requiring less mods.

The sprint version is the least developed of all the carriers. All those roms are carryovers from other GS4 hardware to the Sprint platform. There is not even a way to force roam on our phones yet. This is ridiculous. This is the kind of stuff that comes out during the first week of release for most phones.

Well said. This forum already blows away some Motorola/HTC phones that have been out for a long time. Be thankful to have a Samsung and sprint. Dev friendly. My first smart phone was the original. Galaxy s captivate on at&t. It had way too many rom/kernels/ports. It was messy and hard to find stuff. People saying some euro Rom ports wiping efs and borking phone- no good. The e4gt and this phone is much better. No worries.

Show some respect. Our Roms are not just ports from vzw ect. Blu kuban is built ground up. On the force roam well the roam control dev Has to fix his application. This rant does nothing and it's disrespectful to the great devs and contributors working on this phone.

Useless post in a useless thread. I'll give you another taste of my fabulous insight. Any other forum you may find, I would put money down they have the same development (roms, nightlies, mods, recoveries, rooting, debloating, DEVELOPERS & so forth & on & on & on). If you're looking for another Sprint Galaxy S4 forum that's more "hopping & happening", don't you think we would be posting anything & everything we also find, making this forum more "active"?! Here's a concept, show our devs some consideration & be patient. They may act like robots, but they're humans, too :good:

I highly doubt that.
Plus, the stock experience on this phone is pretty fantastic as is, and I've seen at least 2 ROM developers of E4GT ROM's hold off from doing anything and are just enjoying the phone as is.
There's a good chance that a few of your former phones desperately needed some development right off the bat where the anything out for the S4 is pretty much icing on the cake.

I think it wasn't said because it didn't need to be said.
I don't think he said anything against any devs. He was just speaking about lack of devlopement in general. And he is right. That doesn't mean the devs who are putting stuff out aren't good, cause they are.
I see it like this. I don't find as many themed roms as I've seen with some other phones I've had. Even the amount stock based roms that have personal twists to them is infrequent. Mods and things are also on the low side. Not that the quality of the ones we have are low. Just the amount.
I think the developers from Samsung pay attention to what the devs here and elsewhere are putting out and they do a bit of incorporating so the need for some Roms are not needed. The fact that some people bought the One may have sent a few devs over there. Not that the community over there is very big though. Sales are less than half of the S4.
Some new development will be coming with the nexus experience version of the phone so Roms will be on the uptick soon. But I as well think there is a bit of a low turnout for Roms and things this time around. Also as time goes on this is to be expected. As devs figure mods and things out they just incorporate them into other projects without the need for discussion and its not something that is taking up threads everywhere. The devs have grown a lot so to speak and just push things out that work better from the start. So it seems like less is happening sometimes.
Just my take.

I think there are less here because it is fairly new, and tbh the stock version of it isn't bad at all.
Thanks for that eskomo. I'm not going to reply to those kneejerkers who say "I don't agree and if you don't like it get out rabble rabble rabble"
I have always given proper thanks and respect to all the developers that I have benefited from. However, I am not on trial so I don't have to defend my opinions. Don't tell me where I should or should not post, or what phone/carrier I have your blessing to be on. Thanks, buh bye now.
Also agree on your points of development and customization. For being the biggest/baddest competitor vs the iPhone 5, I see this as a very poor showing of what xda can do with strong hardware. Shame.

You don't get it. You seriously don't. People have lives & sorry they aren't working for 24/7 just for you. Get over yourself & gtfo. Do you really think another Sprint S4 forum is going to have more development than this one? Everything we find, we post. If it's out there, it's here. If you aren't happy with how things are going, switch carriers or do more of your own homework on your own time & don't ask for someone else to do it for you. My "useless" post to your useless thread warned you about getting bad hits & trolls & gess what? I was right & you are still here bellyaching.

[Topic]G730A Root/KDZ

Hi, quick question and topic.
I've overcame a ton of comments primarily from last years release of the Samsung G730A S III Mini model claiming root to no root outcomes.
Is the community for devs still trying to open a port or a guide for a successful G730A root?
I ask this as I see that we were the only form of outcasted Mini users.
If that be said, what are the chances that KitKat could make for an easier root process?
Also, anyone know if a kdz flash is possible for this device?
I ask this after my first Android :sly: Thrill 4G was one of the outcasted phone that finally got a root with a kdz flash, the Thrill forum lost all support and anyone interested in new roms had to stay on a EU dedicated kdz that was promised a developer and rom set.
Basically stating that all users were stuck on an EU Baseband with 3G and sometimes 4G LTE if the rom provided even that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G730A using xda app-developers app
Bumping!
I'm not gonna watch a phone die out because people won't go out of their way to help the G730A community!
There's someone hiding in the dark and not giving answers.
Now we just sit here and watch others gloat and boast about their root? Whenever someone even mentions G730A in a thread the thread just dies out of communication.

Yeah... like seriously! I got the phone when it came out in sept 2013 and been waiting ever since. I voided my warranty by letting an idiot friend drop my phone, with physical damage to the bezel of the phone, I can now root it and do whatever I want. I'm still waiting. But to be honest, I'd rather have the s4 for the bigger screen. But until then I am waiting for kitkat.

US Varients (AT&T/T-MOBILE/VERIZON)root progress thread.

I have searched the forums and the web trying to find a thread for a "root progress" (like the one we had on the LG V30 side of the world) of our T-MOBILE/AT&T/VERIZON/SPRINT note 9, but didn't find any. If there is one already, please remove this thread and provide me a link to it if you may.
Anyway,
There are two reasons why I'm creating this thread:
1. We used to have forums that are carrier specific. It was very neat and organized. I'd never gotten confused on finding something related to my device. Now, it is just one and very very cluttered forum for all varients (to the point that I'm not sure which variant is rootable and which isn't. And that's why I left out the sprint varient because I'm honestly not sure). There are so many threads that makes it so hard to find what you're looking for.
2. I'd like to know if there are any devs out there that are working on root for this phone (on the carriers mentioned above) and whether they need help testing. If there is; I'm sure there are a ton of users who are willing to help, including me.
I'd love for some devs to chime in and give us some updates. Not asking for any ETAs, but would love to know if there is any work being done. If there is, then please consider this thread to share your progress with us
So, feel free to throw your comments on here. Also, if you're a user who's wondering about root, has thoughts about root, would like to chat about it, go ahead, vent it out.
Cheers

I am also interest in US variant root progress. I am on Sprint though. Wish you had included us too in OP. I am willing to test out if anyone is developing.
Hi
Great idea, maybe if we show interest some of the dev's might take up the challenge.
We can hope.

Wont ever happen thats why i returned it and got the 960f for tmobile i left sprijt
It's a pipe dream to get root on the US variants. Samsung has even blocked SamFail and similar root. The bootloaders cannot be unlocked and the snapdragon processor models are doomed.
Join @pbedard, myself, and others; return your snapdragon model and buy the 960F.
The Note 9 is great, but it's amazing with root. ??

carrier specific should be banned and never be implemented again.
it causes confusion and is just a waste of resources. people ask questions and get less visibility because 90% of all questions or releases are CPU based and not carrier related.
it's simply a less efficient way of going about things.
carrier related issues and questions should actually be discussed in that specific carriers website. what good is it to discuss or bring up carriers issues in xda when you actually want and need carriers support and visibility from their end to fix or correct their issues?
issues that are based on device type or general custom development should be kept on xda as is: by cpu. there are sections for general inquires and such that can easily be used for the 10% asking questions or support for a specific carrier.
BTW
extra extra read all about it:
no root for the n960 snapdragon. it's a moot point and progress is that there is no progress. I'd think if the people that were working and progressing getting root were actually getting somewhere they would have already posted info by now. speculative threads wishing for something is not progress and I don't think its gonna " attract " people to suddenly develope root because if it.
it will come when it does if it does.
edit:
to prove my point for the carrier thing:
in Canada we also have the note 9 snapdragon.
960w Bell/rogers/telus/videotron/wind mobile...etc and so on.
should the forums be re-spliced for all of these too? lol no

Sorry, budd. Didn't know that you guys didn't have root either. I'll edit later.

The way Samsung has been locking phones the past few years I'm starting to wonder why I shouldn't try an iPhone out.

I was telling myself the same thing.. then snapped out of it and got an LG lol. Get a Pixel or any other brand if you value root.

its really the carriers imo.. well the US mainly haha.. most all other devices are unlockable outside of the US..
but agreed, especially with the RMM stuff they implemented recently even on unlockable devices..

I honestly cant afford to pay for this phone outright. I wish I could. I would've gotten the exynos varient and called it a day, financing through tmobile was the only option I had to get my hands on this phone. Even without root, it's still a stellar phone.

Is root even worth it anymore tbh ? What if we tried to get Volte and wifi calling working on the unbranded firmware ?

You could have gotten one on ebay and pay it over six months with the PayPal Credit option. That's what I did to get Exynos model.
