[Q] Verizon Moto X dev problems on T-Mobile - Moto X Q&A

Hi,
I have a Verizon Moto X Dev. Edition that I would like to use on T-Mobile network. So far I'm only able to get voice and data by disabling LTE and usting H+. Is there a way to use my XT1060 as a XT1053? in other words are the two models hardware different? or can i install the T-Mobile software and my phone so that I can use T-Mobile's LTE and have voice and data?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Best regards,
Rene

AT&T Moto X to T-Mobile

I am looking to buy a AT&T Moto X from a friend. Will I be able to switch this over to T-Mobile without any problems and be able to access all of the bands on T-Mobile.
I have read other threads, but seem to get different answers. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.

i dunno about the bands. you for sure would be able to use the hspa+ part. dunno about the lte. you would have to get an unlock code for the phone in order to unlock the sim and have it work on t-mobile. its like five bucks. just google moto x sim unlock. ill look for info on the lte bands.
here is a link on the subject. http://forums.androidcentral.com/moto-x/318624-how-does-t-moto-x-work-t-mobile.html

The AT&T Moto X does NOT support all the bands of T-mobile. You will get Tmobile's LTE wherever they have refarmed their 1900MHz spectrum, since thats what AT&T uses. But in places where they haven't (which is a lot), you will be downgraded to 2G or Edge speeds. Save yourself the frustration and buy the T-Mobile or GSM DE Moto X, which has all the necessary bands for T-Mobile 2G/3G/4G as well as AT&T 2G/4G.

Yeah this person's right, I tried going this route and bought a MotoMaker Moto X off contract to use on T-Mobile; way more trouble than it was worth. Ended up returning it for the plain black T-Mobile one and couldn't be happier (I ended up not liking my custom design after the first day anyway)
I'll just echo the other posts here. I tried bringing my MotoMaker X over to T-Mob and it was gigantic headache since I live in an unfarmed area (and an area with craptastic HSPA speeds, but that's another story for another day!). If you're looking to use a Moto X on T-Mob, just save yourself the trouble and either get the GSM Dev Edition, or the T-Mobile edition. Not as "pretty" but pretty don't mean diddly if it don't work!

[Q] Verizon Moto X in Asia (HK and Singapore)??

Does anyone know whether the radios packed into Verizon's Moto X will be able to get 4G data in Hong Kong or Singapore? If I walk into a 7eleven, would I just be able to pick up any SIM and get voice + decent data speeds?
Any help would be most appreciated!
Anthony.
Short and simple answer: no. I believe voice and 3G data shouldn't be a problem, but 4G spectra adopted by both Hong Kong and Singapore are not compatible with that used by Verizon.
Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
Yes you can use it on Asia, mostly UTMS / 3G/WCDMA Is using band 2100 mhz, I'm also use Att Moto X unlocked on Indonesia, and Verizon Moto x GSM is already unlock, so you just put you local sim card

I don't think the VZW ones support the 4G data in HongKong. AFAIK, the reogers ones support it.

Thanks for the info. I guess having 3G data will be better than nothing. Maybe i won't blow through my data allowance so quickly. Thanks!

In addition to CDMA for Verizon, the XT1060 Verizon X supports the following bands...
EDGE/GSM 850/900/1800/1900
HSPA/UMTS 850/900/1900/2100 with Rates of 42.2 Mbps down and 5.76Mbps up depending on the carrier network you connect to.
LTE band 4(AWS) and 13 <- likely not used outside the USA.
So if your carrier uses those, then you should be able to make use of the Verizon X.
You might also have to adjust the phone's APN settings for your carrier.
If you have a Retail or Moto Maker Verizon X, you might have troubles saving any changes you make to the APN settings due to write protection being enabled. (If you have 4.2.2 or 4.4 on your phone, you can Root and Disable Write Protection with the RockMyMoto, SlapMyMoto and MotoWpNoMo processes). If you have a Developer Edition Verizon X, you can unlock its bootloader which will disable Write Protection and makes it easy to root too (once bootloader unlocked, you can flash custom recovery, and install SuperSU from custom recovery to root).

Question about T-Mobile/Unlocked Moto X

We have just purchased a Moto X made for T-Mobile and connected to AT&T towers and now are receiving terrible coverage. We are going through StraightTalk and are now actually roaming with good reception where we live, but we are roaming on USCellular towers. Is there any way that we can flash this phone to run on the USCellular network?
Ok, so I did a little research as far as coverage goes. If you're wanting to use the X on straight talk, then the at&t towers are going to be it for you. You could put the sprint version on straight talk, but if your Verizon straight talk phone is roaming onto us cellular, odds are Sprint is non existent where you live.
You could talk to the us cellular store about putting their version on prepaid, but you'll be looking at $65/month instead of the $45 that straight talk offers.
Now to answer your original question, it's impossible to put the t mobile x on us cellular because it doesn't have a CDMA radio.

If you're roaming on US Cellular and want to switch to US Cellular, all you would need to do is sign up with US Cellular and put their SIM in your phone. No flashing required. According to Wikipedia, the T-Mobile version supports all the non-LTE bands supported by the US Cellular version, but lacks some LTE bands that the US Cellular version supports, but this is a hardware limitation, AFAIK.

Unfortunately, both US Cellular and Verizon are CDMA carriers. Phones from GSM providers such as T-Mobile and AT&T will not work on their services.

The OP claims to be using a T-Mobile version of the Moto X with an AT&T SIM, which couldn't possibly roam on a CDMA carrier.
But a quick look at Wikipedia confirms that US Cellular is a CDMA carrier, although their Moto X version supports GSM bands also - which is what led me astray in my reply.

hi there. I'm looking to try out the tmobile $30 service and I have vzw right now. I was going to get a vzw model just in case things don't work out. As you said the tmobile service works with the vzw moto x but I was wondering if you're able to text/make calls while on the 4g LTE network? I've heard people having problems and not being able to surf the net while on call or not being able to receive texts/outgoing calls while on the 4G, but everything works on the HSPA network.
Thanks!

Does a Sprint X work on Verizon?

I've searched around and everywhere says that the VZW X works on Sprint but, does the opposite work? I know VZW's X is set up with a plethora of radios but I haven't seen how Sprint's is set up.
Thanks in advance!

No. No chance Verizon would allow a phone from another carrier to be activated on their network.

I've not seen any mention of the Verizon X working on Sprint. I have seen posts of the Verizon X working on GSM carriers due to the GSM bands it supports (mainly for global roaming as far as Verizon is concerned), and SIM Unlocked out of the box (due to VZW's 700Mhz auction win). And LTE working on carriers like T-Mobile who also use Band 4 for LTE.
Either way, Sprint and Verizon still use CDMA for Voice, SMS, and 2G/3G data but on different frequencies. So I would not expect the Sprint X to be able to work on Verizon.

[Q] Verizon Moto X in Europe

Hi -
Currently I am using a Verizon Moto X 16gb stock phone. I am going to be going to Spain for the year and am trying to figure out if I will be able to use the phone as is in Europe, or if I will need to do anything to it. Any help would be appreciated. I've read through the forums and there are a lot of threads out there on Tmobile and ATT phones, but can't seem to find a clear answer on my Verizon Moto X.
Thanks in advance!
There are several things to consider.
The Verizon Moto X is sim unlocked, so you can insert a SIM card from another carrier and use it.
Depending on the European carrier you pick, you may only get EDGE service. It really depends on the UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ frequencies those carriers use, and are they compatible with what the Verizon X supports. (VZW X supports the following bands for UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps (B5/B8/B2/B1)
Do not expect to get LTE over seas. The Verizon Moto X supports LTE Band 13 and band 4. I do not believe these are used in Europe.
You might have to enter the APN settings for the European carrier to get working voice, data, sms, mms, etc. The carrier you pick should be able to help you with this if its needed.

From what I understand, the VZW Moto X is already SIM unlocked for international use. There are reports that the most recent updates caused problems using domestic (U.S.) GSM providers, but I'm pretty sure you can use international GSM services without issue.
One way to find out....pop a SIM in and try! This may be difficult if you are still in the U.S., so perhaps someone with the VZW variant can comment here and confirm.
OR...if you don't plan to use Verizon again, you might consider selling it on Swappa and buying a GSM Unlocked version...the European model would probably be most likely to support all the frequencies you will encounter in Spain - if you can get your hands on one.
Good Luck
