Ok guys, I hope this helps some if not all of you. This is a list , or pictures, of apps that i usually delete or freeze depending on the app. Applications that may be used in the future like "AT&T Software Update" might be wise to just freeze. Applications like "Beats", unless you use them, I would delete them. If you are unsure of what applications to delete or freeze, it is safer to just freeze the application, as this leaves the application installed on your phone but it is no longer running in the background. When looking at the pictures, the pictures with items with a line accross, this are apps I uninstalled, the other ones are frozen. that are Many applications in the Google Playstore allow you to freeze or delete system apps, but I find Titanium Backup Pro to be more direct and easier to use.
DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility if you brake your phone, or find your balls after debloating the $#it out of your Galaxy S5.

Have you tried freezing S-Voice? That app is single handedly keeping me from buying an S5. I hate S-Voice with a passion and every time I get a Samsung phone, I put so much time and effort into disabling it, but it never goes completely away.

You didn't have to wait for root to disable S-Voice, was possible right out of the box to disable it.
this is weird, I just rooted my s5 using towelroot and installed chainfire's SU then installed TiBu pro with no problem but when I tried deleting some at&t bloatware like at&t navigator.. it keeps giving this "cannot delete system app, unable to locate apk file"..anyone encountered this?
Is there another app that can freeze the AT&T OTA? I have app freeze and app quarantine and it doesn't give me the option to freeze it.
I don't have TiBu pro yet, maybe I'll buy it next month. Are there any temporary solutions to stop with the OTA?

Force stopping the service and renaming the APK in the /system folder should work (e.g. 'softwareupdater.apk.dontrun'). I don't know what the file name of the updater is though, so you will have to do some research.
freeze/delete
i have deleted all apps on the delete list and my phone is booting faster, and i have no issues and i have turned off some of the apps too since i dont have the paid version of titanium backup. all is fine.
Im pretty sure deleting system apps ruins your chance of getting an OTA update in the future, should you choose to want one eventually. I wouldnt delete any system apps. Freezing is fine.

but at&t navigator isnt a system app, I just dont understand why TiBu sees this as a system app and cannot locate the apk. I have turned off this app including other bloatware even before we achieved root but I want to completely remove them

this is my first android smartphone and only my second smartphone (first being iphone 3gs). I was wondering if someone knew what the apk name and location was so that I could at least for the moment rename the updater services so I don't have to worry about getting an update. I know most people talk about titanium backup and some other paid apps but currently I don't have the money to go that route.
I am still learning this and I tried to search to see if someone had any good alternatives to TiBu but I didn't find any results. I saw some things on the Verizon section but none of those files they mentioned were on the AT&T phones (and I was hesitant to assume they would share the same updater service).

This can be disabled using the normal Android app manager. TiBu can't find the apk because the app isn't technically installed on your phone, yet. If you tried launching the app, it takes you to the google play store to download and install.

No, because you can just factory reset and have it back.
be careful please do not tick ultra power saving mode after rooting and removing some apps, it has not been tracked to exactly what is causing it but it is happening to a few of us.
I removed the standard AT&T ****, isis wallet, the google crap i dont use and a few others with titanium, tested it out for a few hours worked great, had apex installed as the default launcher,
CLICKED ultra power saving mode to test it.. POW on reboot phone loads to only a black and white AT&T logo and it is dead there..
Even if you go into recovery mode and factory reset, the phone will now boot, but after unlock its dead no background and just a black screen the pull down up top works and to get into settings and the lock screen works and that is it....
going to download the 900A zip and try a total reset via odin... I'll keep you updated..

i see no one has listed DLNA as a safe to freeze. I know it is constantly running on my D3 and am wondering if its safe to freeze or not.
Even after freezing DLNA, like a couple other apps like Task Manager and Voice Commands, it still seemed to stay resident. After doing an actual uninstall and reboot, I was good. (I did get an infinite force close loop, thus requiring the reboot. I seemed to be able to hold the power button and tap the force close then the shutdown item fast enough to avoid needing a battery pull.)
I agree we shouldn't have multiple threads for the same topic. I think we should take further discussion over to the more trafficked one:

Titanium backup or use es file manager with root access checked off in settings and delete them or any file manager that has root access really but you shouldn't delete them..just move them to a folder on your sd card or rename them to .bak or freeze them with titanium backup..this way if anything goes wrong you will be able to fix it
Hope I helped

Im not so sure about removing anything blur or moto related. It was said that com.motorola.android.buacontactadapter was removed, but does anyone know what it does? The main thing I dislike the most is the way the camera handles flash and the way it is linked to gallery. (I hate the moto gallery, QuickPic FTW). If camera360 supported FFCs I would be much more likely to use it.

Also - word of warning - do not remove VSuiteApp.apk - I thought it was the VCast Media Manager, but removing it puts the phone into a "Force close" loop, which even ADB can't get you out of (can't SU while in the "force close" loop). I had to reboot the phone to get it working again and restore the APK file to its correct location, which was a pretty tense experience.
Click to collapse
I removed the VSuiteApp.apk just fine. No issues here. the force close loop is caused because the application was running at the time of deletion. VCast Media Manager is known as NewBayVault_4.2.99.36.Market.apk . this can happen to any of the apps if they are system apps that are running during time of deletion
@Darksurf -thanks for that, VCast media manager now removed.
Edited my earlier post to add that APK to the list.
On removing VSuiteApp.apk - what does that app do? It seems to be related to the voice recognition system as far as I can see. Be safe to remove if you don't want voice IO, perhaps?
I removed the DLNA app, it started giving immediate problems with repetitive force close notices. Pulled the battery, restarted, never happened again.
So I used Root Explorer to rename most of the same apps everyone is listing as .bak. I then gave my phone a few hours run to see how everything behaved and that I didn't freeze anything important. Once I was satisfied with that I started actually deleting certain apps (ie. blockbuster, zumo, any vzw app) because all we kept saying was "remove the bloatware." Now I'm seeing everyone say we shouldn't have actually removed anything. All that being said, how can I replace the apps I actually deleted and simply go back and .bak them?
Can I delete GlobalNWSwitch.apk? Is this what makes the phone keep on asking whether you want to switch back to Global mode once the signal is lost for a while?
so like always I get my phone from verizon and there are just LOADS of apps that I don't want and will never use. the first thing I usually do is download my browser of choice (xscope) and then I will go into an application and click a link or an ad. you are prompted with a dialogue of which of the browsers you want to use to open I chose xscope and tick the box that says use this as default. I am then safe to un install the stock browser and not run into any problems. I also took out the ones I knew wouldn't interfere with anything like netflix, blockbuster, pre loaded game demos.
my question is , is it safe to remove these moto blur applications, I never use facebook on my phone, I don't twitter...they're wasting space and I'd rather just get rid of them, but my last phone was the moto droid 1 and it didn't have any of this blur bull****.
so are there any complications if I remove my facebook or twitter apps then I click someones facebook link and my phone explodes because it cant find the moto blur app? Also can I get rid of the backup stuff...and Im not sure why...but Gallery has been replaced with 'my pictures' and it has that ****ing red thing on the top which indicates it will upload these to my verizon account....uhhh no thank you....do I have to keep this or can I just install an old gallery and make that default?
I wouldn't remove them, just freeze them. Titanium backup pro is a great tool and really worth the money. There's a lot of apps that can be frozen and not cause issues, check the Android development for the Droid 4, there's a thread about which apps you can freeze. Removing them can cause instability with the phone, and no sbf files have been released

You are not supposed to have sideloaded apps. Or that is what Samsung implies, now you could use Helium or Titanium with cloud backup if you are rooted, otherwise loose the data each time you upgrade and install them again. Most apps meant for the gear are a combination of software on the phone and on the watch and probably store the data on the phone anyways.
To backup my apps and restore I use.. Wondershare mobile go..
It is fast and easy. Before you update Gear manager, just do a manual backup with Wondershare.,( select Toolkit /one lock backup or restore.)
note 3/note8.0 for xda
I hate it that it does it too. Funny thing, all my ringtones, notifications and videos r still there after it restores.

If you put your app apk's in /system/app instead of /data/app they won't disappear on upgrades
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
Another solution would require a bit of coding, a phone application without a launcher activity and APK files in assets folder and a few tweaks in the AndroidManifest.xml (I got one from ATNs phone app) would do a proper install of the apps through gear manager and they will survive the upgrades.
EDIT: not coding but you will need the IDE and SDK and know how of the process.
How about keeping root?
And now my MobileMe trial ends today. Damn it, may have to break down and pay for it. If anyone seems any discount codes, please post.

Keep a directory of all your apps on your desktop, reinstalling with wondershare is a breeze !
I also back up all my configurations, being novalauncher, tasker & widgets. You simply restore them once you reinstall your apps. They generally are stored on the SDCARD.
It shouldn't be a big bother, if you stay organized.
I full wipe my gear atleast 6 times a day (development purposes) and reinstalling everything literally takes 2 minutes at the most.

I don't have any sideloaded apps but one app I use from the Play store keeps getting deleted if I open the gear manager. When I install FEEDLY news reader it works fine and I can use but as soon as I open Gear Manager the app disappears from the phone.
When I go to install it from Google Play, it downloads and then this window appears with a Gear Manager unknown sources. I click OK to accept and it works and stays on the phone as long as I don't open gear manager.
It's starting to get me cheesed off as I use this app every day for news reading and having to reload it every time is really not good.
Loading any other app from Google Play seems to be OK and never shows this window.
Anyone else seen this?

I've been copying the apks to the "sdcard" then I just push the root explorer app to the watch and copy the apks back to data/app or system as needed. A little extra work but pretty quick that way.

Found the system folder in apps with Airdroid, so I've copied the apk's to it.
Just use titanium backup. It will keep your applications and data backed up. It has a batch restore so the apps are right back in the same state as before they were deleted. It also has the nice feature of exporting apps from your phone directly to the Gear over bluetooth. No more worries about side loading with that functionality.
My problem is that apps disappear from my gear's app drawer every time I open gear manager. If I restart the gear, sideloaded apps appear in the app drawer again. Ive used adb fasboot to sideload the apps. What do i need to do so that apps stick and dont dissapear?

I am sure Samsung is exercising control and trying to tell you what to run, and this I am not crazy about.

It seems to be ad pop ups. I would be using an app such as whatsapp or watching a video through my gallery and the add just pops up out nowhere. it has never done that before.
If you get apps from places that are not "trusted sources" many of them have these pop up ads.
Go through and we which apps have Device Admin, Accessibility, and Draw Over Other Apps permissions
Are you using stock Gallery or another app?

Personally, I do not use any antivirus on my phone. I tried some of them before but finally gave up due to the large consumption to the phone memory which results into a slowdown of system and a faster drain of power. Plus, the major drawbacks of these free AV, like Avira, Kapersky, Bitdefender and more in Top 5 Free Antivirus in 2018, are the ads and popups bundled with them. They keep sending annoying ads and pop-ups during running, and even worse, sometimes they downloaded and installed things automatically.
Thus, if you download apps from playstore, surf the safe websites and connect to a clean outside device, do not bother to install a AV on your phone.

Now for me to identify the culprit......? only issue though is if you have this issue your most likely the kind of user who experiments and installs several apps at once.... so here goes my trial by elimination process?
Hi had this problem.
I deleted the free APK that I had installed but I was still getting pop ups.
You need to go to settings / apps and right at the end of the list there was a app with no name or app logo.
Deleted it, problem solved.
I tried virus scan apps and nothing found it.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice! I deleted all the apps I installed in the past week and still no success until your post! Issue was starting to really bug me cos I kinda hate the idea that I dont have control over a device I paid for....lol
For anyone in the same position, see attached images if it helps and yes I installed a dodgy APK editor which i deleted but didn't notice this culprit App in the app list!

Yeah that's exactly what I saw on my list.
No AV will block an ad. They block known, to them, malware apks. Use something like Addons Detector from G Play store and/or Nice catch from S Galaxy store to list all the apks that have ads modules and then remove those you installed last or don't recognise or need.
Run Malwarebytes.
