I read an article long ago which has the capability to root all android devices . It uses a flaw that is in the android itself. It seems even backup and restore app of sony uses this method

I have tried, OTA cannot update the new firware, can only use PCC to update the new fireware.
I can confirm Voodoo OTA RootKeeper cannot help protect root when u are updating using PCC.
I have Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and i update from PCC and my root is lost.....

I have tried bin4ry's method and it is confirmed by many users it is not working....
I have also tried motochpper and it is not working too.
But i know that if u unloack bootloader, you are still able to root.. but i just dont want to unlock my BL just yet....
Might need to confirm but I remember that on the arc to root you had to downgrade the kernel, root then re flash updated ed kernel
Needs to be confirmed first
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
My suggestion to preserve root is simple
Download the update.(just d update from the existing firmware)
Creating a .zip file
Modding it so that we don't lose root
Flash that zip through cwm so that we can enjoy updates widout losing root or trying to find new ways of rooting new firmware..

I woul also go with this solution approach..
1. For getting the FTF Files: http://mytechencounters.wordpress.c...eate-an-ftf-file-of-your-xperia-ics-firmware/
2. Then creating a Flashable Zip File: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183077
3. Preroot it..But how to do that?
I am looking for a easier way I didnt install CWM on my XZ...
unliess it is really no other ways, i will have unlock my BL but i will still wait

Madhouse was talking about Locked Bootloader phones, everybody knows how to root any firmware with an unlocked bootloader.
In the Xperia ARC, the procedure was to flash the newest firmware (not-rootable), then flash a previous kernel only (rootable) with flashtool, turn on phone, root it using any exploit available, turn it off, and flash the newest kernel alone with flashtool. Phone rooted and in the latest version.
I don't know, but maybe this method could work as this new firmware is still based on Android 4.1 just like the previous one, so the older, exploiteable, kernel should be able to boot the new firmware.

I already root my phone with this method , just flash old kernel with CWM_Recovery , reboot in recovery , flash root SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip , reboot in flash mode and then flash stock Kernel from 10.1.1.A.1.253 .

AGAIN, this is only possible on unlocked bootloaders. With locked bootloaders, once you update to 10.1.1.A.1.253, you loose root and recovery, so there is no way to do what you are saying. Once updated to .253, the only way to change kernel is via flashtool.

Hi Guys,
I'm new to Sony Devices and bough the US Lte version recently and started exploring it.. These are my finding related to SGP351, if anything mistakenly added, please let me know i will correct it..
Here is the Android 4.3 Update for SGP351 (US Lte Variant)...

*Root Possible
FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK
If you have flashed 4.3 and want to go back follow this
How to Flash
Use the Latest Flashtool (http://www.flashtool.net/index.php)
download and copy of the FTF file under Firware folder in Flashtool installed directory.
Click the Flash Icon in Flashtool, Select the Flash Mode and select the Firmware to flash it.
How to Root?
Currently Works only in SGP351, 4.1.2 version
1. Flash the 4.1.2 Version.
1a. Make sure USB Debugging and Unknown sources installation checked under Settings in XTZ
2. Install the Vroot from the site (DoomLord exploit will not work in SGP351 version)
3. It will identify your device, click the green icon on the bottom-left.
4. it will ask you for ADB authorizes in Tablet, select always tick mark and click ok.
5. Install the Root and reboot.. (additional Chinese market app will also be installed, you can uninstall later.)
6. Now you need to Install Reboot Fix from @[NUT] files(as the System R/W will not work properly) and follow the instructions
7. if no errors, your tablet is ready and rooted
8. if you want install the Super Su from market, get root access. and remove the Chinese Super User.
if you want to move to Custom Roms, from 4.3 or 4.1.2 version backup the TA partion
Backup the TA
Once rooted (follow the above steps), backup your TA partition which will have all the information related to Sony's Bravia Engine,,
Use the below TA Backup by @DevShaft
Now Unlock your Bootloader to Install the Custome CM/AOKP Roms if needed. and want to come back to Stock.. restore the TA backup to use your Bravia/Sony Sound Mods

Hey mate, thanks a lot for the ftf files for sgp351 have been looking this files for a while, great to have this if you make a mistake instaling a rom
Unlocked bootloader here so no worries with that -
But even the vroot method does not work with the 4.3 update ?
And when you said you had problems flashing with the 4.3 files should we just hold off on trying to flash the zip you posted ?
Thanks

the files posted at first post are FTF files (not a flashable cwm files) of 4.1.2 and 4.3, that are working fine for me..
in order to get root in 4.3, i have tried the method posted by @[NUT] at Xperia Z forum. by using the CWM flashable method, that is not working...
currently, there is no direct method for rooting. all the methods will fail
we have to go back to 4.1.2, root it and then go with OTA (it's not available at the method), other approach is flash the files with root, currently i'm trying this approach with guidance from @[NUT]
EDIT: successfully rooted 4.3 will provide the details soon
No need to revert back to 4.1.2 cause 4.2.2 .67 can be easily rooted with vroot and then update to 4.3.

Okay .. So I'm running ver. 14.3.A.0.681 on my Z1 and I want to root it .. I heard of a method in which the phone must be downgraded, then rooted, then reupdated again using flashtool .. But every time I try to downgrade I get stuck in a boot loop .. I have managed to fix the boot loop problem by reflashing the 14.3.A.0.681.ftf
Please guys how can I downgrade without having this problem? And does this rooting method work? If not, what should I do?

Hi ralph97,
Here is what I did (although I was on .257 to start with)
1) Flashed C6903 14.1.G.1.534 Generic from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191
2) Install dualrecovery from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606
3) Flash SuperSU (via recovery) from here - http://download.chainfire.eu/282/SuperSU/
4) Update to NUTs .681 from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2687443
Each time I flashed an ftf, I cleared everything, so I made a backup (I just copied the stuff such as music, photos etc to my pc)
I hope that this helps.
PS - all cradits to helping me to @gregbradley

If you open the BL there is no need to make all the way back to 534.
You just have to open the BL install a recovery, on the 680 ftf, and then install the supersu.

Yes this is true, but you may want to backup your TA partition before unlocking the bootloader and this needs root, so you have to downgrade to .534 anyway.
So, yes technically you can do this, but I DO NOT advise it.
Well, the first time you do it, probably it shoud be done as you say.
i also do that...its work..dont need to downgrade..

You need root to do it, so it has to be done BEFORE you unlock.

Please remind to People the consequences in doing this! Like the Warranty, after Unlock Bootloader, will be Voided and even before that, like @gregbradley already said, Backup TA to not lose DRM Keys. The short way isn't the best all the time.
You do not reupdate by flashtool.
Only with the recovery.

The process is incorrect.
You can root up to version .254. You can't root .201 or .266. by the method you stated.
To root .201 or .266, you can install one of the customised roms (see android dev section)
Some roms required unlocked bootloader. Others do not. So read the instructions carefully.
I am current on rooted 201 using this ROM:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658043
(version 2.1 - you install v2 then update with v2.1 on top).
You will still need to downgrade to older version so that you can get root and recoveries before you can install the above rom
Good luck

Not sure what 284 is (probably global ftf of version 257), but the last version before 4.3 was 254. You can try though.
Answer to your last question:
As stated: YOU CANNOT ROOT 4.3 (266 OR 201) with doomlord's exploit- PERIOD.
Once you flash the 4.3 kernel, your phone will go into a bootloop.
You can only use doomlord's exploit for version 257 up to 254.

You only lose DRM keys if you unlock the bootloader, not through rooting.
The downgrade to older 4.1.2 will not cause the loss of the keys...

You didn't say how you rooted your device.
If it is through other roms, these roms would usually include a set of recoveries.
I have not tried (because I got both root and recoveries through customised roms for 201), but you can try dssmex's files to install your recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649923
O.k. Rooted my phone by downgrading to .254. If I use Flash tool to install .266 tft will that destroy the root?

xezrunner managed to flash Recovery on a force-locked Bootloader, and flash CM11 on it.

Late reply, but to be exact: There is a Locked Bootloader CWM available for the E1. I can no longer find it here on XDA, but I have the installer. I modified it myself because the script didn't quite work for me. But you still can't install it without root, so it's kinda useless.
In order to root, you either flash CWM (unlocked BL) or you flash back the .0.47 kernel, root, then flash the 2.13 or 2.14 kernel back. There's no other way known yet.
