Hi,
I saved a backup of Sony's firmware using TWRP's backup tool on my Xperia's SD card before moving to a custom ROM. The backup has my data, system, trim, and a few other partitions. The custom ROM came with CWM and my Sony firmware has TWRP, rooted. If I decide not to use the custom ROM, could I use CWM to flash my backup that has TWRP? Or do I use flashtool to flash .534 and then flash my backup?
Sorry for the questions.
You can use the backup
However, cmw and twrp backups may have a different format depending on your choices of backup format in twrp
best bet is to just install dual recovery then use the same recovery to restore the backup that you made it with

Hi,
I hope that my experience could help other persons that fall in my situation.
After a try of CM, I couldn't restore my stock backup anymore, the phone hanged up in the lg boot screen.
There were no problems about ext4 partition or wiping or fixing permission.
I was thinking to do a NVflash procedure, but i gave another try: using old modaco CWM recovery. I overwrited CWM 4.2.0.2, performed a wipe, installed the modaco zip ext4->ext3 (i didn't remember if i was ext 3 or 4) and then restore my STOCK backup: EVERYTHING WAS FINE!!!
Maybe there's a problem in the newest CWM during restore a backup, i don't know, but in this way i could restore my original firmware.
Hope that this could be usefull.
Did you do your stock backup with modaco CWM? It has different MD5 checksum than the CWM. Might be the case why you can't restore your backup.
No, I did the stock backup with the original CWM.
I think that the problem is in the restore procedure of the original CWM (4.2.0.2), in fact also the CM restore is impossible, only if you install the zip immediately after the restore. Instead... hangs up.
I find when that happens the best method is to reflash the rom your restoring and just restore the data from your nandroid backup. Always works for me.
confirm this issue with cm & nandroid restore

This is true, restore and then install the rom. But how if your restore is the stock rom? NVflash? It's not the same.
Fortunally, Modaco CWM solve it without this procedure.
Thanks!!
This solve my problem with my stock nandroid restore. I downgrade CWM to 3.1.4 (did the backup with 3.2.8 version) and now works perfect!!
Finally i could restore my stock rom.
my solution was...
1. nandroid backup of mcr
2. full wipe & installed cm7
3. nandroid restore of mcr
4. installed mcr without wipe (this solved bootloop after restoring)
Hey, so I decided to root my Mini. That part worked (installed the zip from stock recovery) but then I attempted to install the CWM recovery using the update zip method and I don't know whether I should of used ODIN instead because I can't backup my current ROM.
If I tried flashing CWM recovery using ODIN , will it overwrite existing recovery and will it allow me to backup my current ROM. Can't mount system can't mount cache errors??
Just to verify also, I wipe user data before installing new custom ROM ? Been a while since i last installed one.
Thanks for your help!
Flashing CWM will overwrite current recovery, you'd have to flash stock to remove it
As for creating backups you can't backup stock roms because of how they work, the closest to stock that can be backed up (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176927)
Hello I have an xperia z c6602 I'm currently using pac man rom with meow kernel
My bootloader is unlocked and I want to go back to stock
I have a CWM backup of my stock rom. And a backup of my TA partition (i read it was useful)
How do I go back to stock? Can I just restore my CWM backup? Or I have to flash through Emma? How do I restore my ta backup?
Can someone be so kind to guide in a newbie way please? (I'm use to play around with Samsung devices. This is really different!)

Hello, I was on pac rom few days ago as well, then i decided to try miui which is based on stock.
So here's the steps:
BACK UP ALL YOUR INTERNAL SD FILES AND FOLDERS because flashing ftf will erase everything inside internal sd, I never did a backup, lost all the chats and messages. :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:
copy all the flashable .zip u want to your sd card.
Flash a stock .ftf file .67 / .74 will do, then root it with any method u want
then flash original kernel using flashtool
then reboot str8 to recovery and proceed to do a clean wipe then flash any stock custom rom you want.
let me know if you have any doubts or question here.
My method is
1.Backup everything, photos, messages, app data using titanium backup, literally everything you need.
2.Store backups somewhere safe, especially titanium backup file(the whole thing).
3.Flash back stock rom and wiping everything.
4.Relock bootloader.
5.Now you have a clean phone, root it again and restore titanium backup app datas,
But be sure to only restore games, apps, but not system files, it may causes crash.
6.Restore the rest of them.

Thanks for the replies! Do you know how to restore my ta backup? Or by flashing the stock rom it would be the same? If not. At what part of the process should I do it?

restore ta backup is the last step basically, ( after flashing stock kernel and stock rom)
i think you used the backup ta for windows from one thread if i'm not wrong,
just restore dry run just to make sure the ta is correct and then just restore it
(the phone should be power on like normal, with usb debugging on)
for your concern, cwm backup also can be used, just restore it and it's done, but, the app data and all other things will return to the state during the time you made the backup, so the progress you did in this custom rom wil not be saved, unless you used titanium backup after you restore nandroid.
Excellent! Thanks man I will restore my backup and restore TA. And yes. I used a Windows tool to make the ta backup (don't even know what's that for. I just read it was important) haha

I want to flash the new TWRP recovery using CWM (Clockworkmod Rec), but i have a backup file (stock rom) from my CWM,
My question is:
IF i want to get back to stock how can i replace the new TWRP with CWM and restore my stock ROM ?
OR is it possible to restore CWM backup file with TWRP ?
Thanks :fingers-crossed:
Its not possible to restore CWM recovery backup under TWRP recovery
Make a new backup after flashing TWRP recovery
Another option is return to CWM recovery and after that restoring your stock rom CWM backup
Hi... If I do a nandroid backup then relock my boot loader, flash an ruu then restore the backup, will it restore my device to before the lock and flash? If so how would I back-up so that it doesn't do that?

If you make a nandroid and want to keep it you will need to copy it to your PC before running the RUU. And then copy it back to your internal storage afterwards as the Ruu will wipe your internal storage.
Restoring the nandroid would restore your ROM and apps to as it was before but you will still have the updated firmware. If your old rom and new rom are on the same base i.e both lollipop roms you can restore just the Data partition from your nandroid without effecting the new rom. But this is not recommended it updating from kitkat to lollipop.
You can also use titanium backup to backup your data then restore it to your new rom once you've finished updating. But again you will need to save your titanium backup folder to your PC before using the ruu.
In short if your updating from Lollipop to newer version of lollipop. You can use the Restore Data only from nandroid method.
Kitkat to Lollipop Titanium Backup would be best.
