[Q] wifi / hotspot not working

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me out. the wifi and portable hotspot are not working. The wifi has not been detecting open or locked wifi networks. When I try to create a portable hotspot, the phone displays the word, Error. I have Tmobile and use T-zones for my internet. Currently I am still using the internet but it is being used via USB. I still have and use internet so its not that Tmobile cancelled my internet but its more like something is wrong with the actual phone parts or the software. I have tired flashing other roms but no luck. I am currently using Android 2.3.4 on cyanogenmod 7.1.0-RC1-IncS and also has S-off. The phone is unlocked and rooted. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Try upgrading to cm 7.2.0

APN settings
No idea if this will work for you but it did for me. I am on t-mobile(UK). Wifi and tethering were both working fine for me until I rooted my phone and installed a custom rom. After going through loads of different options, I noticed that the APN had somehow changed when I rooted. (Settings>Wireless&networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names)
For me the correct APN (general.t-mobile.co.uk) became general.t-mobile.uk after I rooted for no known reason. Adding the 'co' resolved the issue and everything started working again.
I would suggest searching the internet for your network's APN settings and having a look at the settings on your IS.

I tried both and none worked. Thanks for the suggestions. Any other ideas anyone?

Any one know if there is a new wifi software update? That or a hotspots update but I think they might be the same.

tethering issue

Hi All
I surf on internet to find someone with my issue but all the solution I tried did not work, so my situation is this:
I bought an S3 with Three mobile I unlocked so I can use different networks and I also update the S3 with official rom (4.2.1) using Odin hoping that this will make work the tethering but unfortunately the portable hotspot still not working which means the PC can connect to the Phone but the internet connection is not available, I tried to install some apps like foxfi but the issue still there, now I hope that here I can find some help

[Q] T-Mobile blocks Wi-Fi tethering on TreveMod?

Hi guys, I was using TreveMod on my rooted, stock T-Mobile(US) device. I have everything unlimited plan. After couple days, when I try to connect web pages, it redirects me to T-Mobile Mobile Hotspot page and I can't surf other websites. Is there any workaround for this problem? How can they track I am tethering with different app? Do I need freeze something from stock ROM?

Sorry for bumping a (somewhat) old thread, but have you found a way to bypass this? I'm getting this issue also. I'm on one of the newer "No contract" plans for the unlimited if that helps.

[Q] S3/Gear bluetooth internet tether problem

Hey guys,
I recently rooted my gear and installed the null 14 ROM. My phone I am currently using is an S3 running stock 4.3. How do I go about tethering my internet from my phone to the gear? It seems they must have removed bluetooth tethering from the 4.3 as I only have wifi hotspot and usb tethering. Anybody else get this too or does somebody know what's wrong and how I can fix it? Thanks for any help guys

Im running stock rooted 4.3 on my gs4 with the tethering hack on verizon and i have bluetooth tethering under settings, more networks, tethering and then you check the bluetooth one. FYI bluetooth tethering is capped at about 3mpbs to is not exactly lightening fast but it does work. Make sure on your gear that you go into bluetooth settings and the click settings for the device your connected to and check use internet from device or whatever it says i forget exactly

So I have my S3 rooted now. What can I install to enable the bluetooth tether? Any info and/or links would truly help. I am not too smart when it comes to this rooting stuff. Thanks

[Q] What are settings for "Wifi Tether" app to get it to work on the Z3c?

Hi all,
I'm wondering if anybody knows the proper settings for Wifi Tether app to get it working on the Z3c.
My Z3c is rooted (bootloader locked). I've tried the Wifi Tether app with the TrevE mod, but was not able to get it to work.
The reason I want to use the Wifi Tether app is so my carrier (Cricket Wireless) won't know. I don't think they allow tethering with regular smart phone plan.
Also, should I use another app in addition to mask/encrypt my data going in and out?
