Hello guys,
I hope somebody can help me with my problem.
I rooted my Z1 today and then decided to put CM11 on it. The rooting process was fine. I did towelroot and installed the dualrecovery that was recommended.
The problem was after flashing. The process itself seemed fine but after it was done the phone didn't boot. I also can't go into recovery again, which seems a bit strange... When I connect it with my computer Flashtool can detect the phone and it seems it disconnects and reconnects periodically (typical Windows sounds).
For Flashing I did use Philz Recovery I think and CM11 the latest nightly with the latest GApps.
What would you recommend?
Thanks for the help!
Best regards

Quick sanity check: you've unlocked the bootloader, right? CM cannot run under a locked bootloader.
I guess you didn't unlock the bootloader therefor you cannot run cm only stock based roms
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Free mobile app
CM 11 requires unlocked bootloader. Unlock bootloader allows users to install custom kernels that are necessary to boot CM 11. regardless the issue with your phone, if it still reacts to powering up, do the following steps to repair your phone
Do a hard reset. hold the power button and volume up key for 10 seconds,or until you feel 3 short vibrations.
Download sony update service and try to do a reinstallation of stock firmware.
this will remove root and all data with it. good luck
Doesn't Towelroot unlock the bootloader? Or did I misunderstand something here?
I think I did the hard reset already accidentally. Will the Sony Update Service work if I wiped the previous system with the Recovery Tool?
I can't test it right now, only later that day.
But thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it!
Best regards

Towelroot does exactly what it's called, root your device.
It's not called towelunlockbootloader

You, sir, are awesome!
It's working fine again. Now, I need to do this step by step and unlock the bootloader before flashing CM.
Thank you again!

Hi All,
Hoping for some advise and hopefully a fix. Been scouring these forums for 4 hours and cannot find a problem the same as mine or one that seems like it would fix.
I've always stuck to nexus phones in the past so the xperia z is new to me. picked it up this weekend but i've already had enough of sony's custom skin so thought i'd get a custom rom.
I updated to the latest software version using the pc suite and then used the xperia z root tool (v16).
After this i downloaded root checker and verified i was rooted
i then downloaded cwm recovery and installed
i then downloaded the 4.3 google edition rom for the xperia z, put it on the sd card and went into recovery, selected it from sd card. said it all installed ok so selected reboot...
after this it didnt come back on and just vibrates once when you press the power button. tried the hard reset thing where it vibrates 3 times but after this it does nothing.
it isnt recognised when plugged in to pc and the only sign of life that i can see is the light flashing red when plugged in as if charging.
Any ideas? never had something not switch on at all before.
Is your bootloader even unlocked?
4.3 roms and all other roms with non stock kernels cannot be flashed on a locked device.

Easy. Just repair with SUS
or
Download flashtool, and download the corresponding firmware you need (should be .ftf format) (i.e. if your a UK generic user download UK generic ROM) and flash the firmware.
fixed
Thanks guys. Flashtool got me back up and running.
Now, just because I'm obviously a complete tool does anyone know off the top of their head if it is actually possible to put the Google edition 4.3 on here after all of that or should I quit while I'm ahead???

Then finally follow instrustions from here and flash this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389823
It is an advanced build of 4.3 based on CM 10.2.
Remember to fastboot flash boot.img of kernel before flashing it form recovery.
If all that seems too complicated then i advice you don't attempt it right away, read around the XDA forum and familiarise yourself before attempting to brick your phone :silly:
Dude does your bootloader unlocked? If not maybe it cause u a soft brick. Try to flash the original ftf for xperia z use the latest flash tool then reflash it. Hope it helps you. Btw welcome to the SONY world ;p
Hey,
I downloaded the new version on cyanogenmod 10.1.2 to my phone and installed it via the Clockworkmod "Install from ZIP" fucnction. I formatted data and cache and the install completed successfully. After I hit reboot system now, the phone turned off and I was met with a blank screen and a green LED. I've tried all combination of resets, cables, etc. to no avail.
I'm not sure what else to do.
Also I'm not sure if the bootloader was unlocked or not, that might be partly the issue. And I think the way I installed it, which is the way I have always done on other phones, may not have worked on this particular phone.
Thanks in advance

You think?
If you are not sure if its unlocked then its not unloacked.
Repair your phone with pccompanion.

Flashed stock firmware with flashtool and that worked, Pc companion wouldn't detect it.
Unfortunately, now, the phone will not show up in ADB so I can root it again. Despite having every driver possible installed.
Search for doomlords or bin4rys root method

Hello, after unlocking the bootloader and then rooting my phone with doomlord's kernel I've noticed many problems. It seems like RAM gets stucked after opening a few applications or they can't shut down and they stay always open until they start to open themselves and then I have to reboot my phone. Also, it sometimes stucks as blackscreen when I take the charger off.Leds remain opened and phone has to be rebooted with the reset button only.
Is there any way to fix that? I want to relock the bootloader and take out the root.is it possible? Don't want to have this ****ty phone anymore..
Did you do a TA backup? else you cannot lock the bootloader again try to flash a custom rom the really make the phone faster and the problems you have shouldnt happen so try to reflash your phone via flashtool

nvm then if you didn't know it existed and you unlocked your bootloader there is no way of relocking (TA is DRM keys which allow a full lock of bootloader and being able to use sony apps again)
you can flash any CM rom which you can find in "original android development" but please carefully read the instructions before attempting to flash a custom rom on your phone

Bad RAM management has nothing to do with root or unlocked bootloader in this device. Latest SP firmware is very buggy and i think that causes your problems. Try different rom or do factory reset.
e: try also stock kernel
Ok so I decided after using this thing stock for ages I was going to try CM11. Spent all day reading and trying to figure this out.
Used Krabappel guide to downgrade to .534 via flashtools. SUCCESSFUL.
Unlocked Bootloader via Sony official. SUCCESSFUL.
Backed up TA via guide. SUCCESSFUL.
Rooted via Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v33. SUCCESSFUL.
Then moved onto trying to find/install a recovery so I could flash the CM11 rom. Now where things seem to have gone awry...
Flashed advanced stock kernel v4 by krabappel2548 in accordance to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439298
Via this command: fastboot flash boot adv-stock-v4.img
Claimed it ran through successfully. Tried to adb reboot recovery, no devices found.
Now device will not turn on. Holding down the power button resulted in a single buzz, no screen activity. Volume up+power gave the three vibrations for reset, no screen activity. Currently red blinking light when plugged in via usb.
Not sure where to go from here. Currently sitting and charging while blinking away.
Thanks for looking. This was so much easier on nexus devices lol!
Hello friend, i suppose you should try booting into fastboot mode via holding volume UP and connecting USB, see if flashtool recognizes it.
If it does, then we need to find you a pure stock kernel to install and later a recovery.
Also, what android firmware you had before flashing kernel?

Beautiful, flashtools does recognize it: blue LED and "device connected in fastboot mode"
I believe I was on 14.1.G.1.534 since I needed to downgrade to that in the first step, and I don't think any steps I took afterwards changed it AFAIK.

If you felt a vibration you are not bricked thankfully. Try flashing another ftf in flash tool and start over.
edit: oops you beat me to posting before I hit post.
Looking at my steps taken, did I mess something up? I'm not sure what I did wrong and would like to not repeat this mistake.
I found out what you did wrong.
You needed to have 14.2.A.1.136 fw to install the kernel. Read carefully what it says here.

If you messed up with the kernel, you might have to install a new one.
But firstly try what angryGTS said before me. Reflash .534 and see what happens, then i will happily help you get to a solid firmware and install CM11
Also, you backed up TA after unlcoking BL or before, and how you backed it up (recovery or other tool? )? (It's important that you have backed up BEFORE unlocking BL :/ )

That's just great news.
Your camera should not be working since you have unlocked BL and firmware version .534 . Root it using Kingo Root or such one click root programs.
And then install recovery from here .
-Use this to go to rooted 4.3 . thanks to NUT (at this point your camera should start working again)
-Use this to go to rooted 4.4 version .681 , thank NUT again (you can stay here if you want Z2 camera mods and DoomKernel and other stuff availiable to fw up to .681 )
And optional go to latest .757 KitKat using this thank NUT again , but you won't be able to do much here.
Also when you are at .681 , you might want to flash to CM11 there , check here and thank FXP team.
Have fun. And remember to read instructions carefully .

Do I need to be using his kernel/de-odexing at all?

Hey guys. I was trying to install Cm10 on my sister's xperia T. I rooted it, installed recovery, wiped everything but after I flashed CM and clicked reboot, the phone is dead. I can't turn it on, I can't enter recovery mode, the PC isn't recognising it. If I push the on/off button it vibrates once but then nothing and if I push at the same time power on and volume up, it vibrates three times but then again nothing.
I know I forgot to do something while installing the ROM but please any piece of help might be extremely useful as I ended up with a dead phone and nothing I can do.

Did you unlock the phone's bootloader? Because custom roms like cyanogenmod require an unlocked bootloader for xperia phones. Also, try using the flashtool to revive your phone. This sounds pretty much like a soft brick. If I'm right, it's 100% guarandeed you can bring the phone back to life.

Yes it was a problem caused by the ROM I was trying to install. I found one with stock 4.0.4 and flashed it and finally it came back to life.
And in fact it is faster than when it was running 4.3.3

Thanks for the tip. In fact I'll make another effort to install CM and this time I'll make sure to follow every step properly. But comparing the two editions, I think 4.0 is smoother than 4.3.
