When trying to reboot theres no error just gets stuck on att loadup screen. In odin fails after nand write start
on the phone it says sys recovery check fail :no version
SECURE MAGICCODE CHECK FAIL : boot
my guess is I need the gs5 active firmware but I cant find it anywhere any suggestions?
Im guessing the phone isnt letting the firmware go through because its meant for a different mode.
thank you for the quick response

Is it safe to assume that the product name shown in download mode is the same name as the firmware because if so, the firmware is sm-g870a and I can not find that anywhere.
Also would it be reasonable to request the firmware in the general android section?

That's the name, but you may have a difficult time finding that firmware, if at all.

Im in the same boat, hangs on the ATT logo. tried the download booster mod and i think I'm screwed.

Ill asume they will get the stock firmware soon

I recent purchased the sm-870a (ATT S5 Active). I'd be happy to dump my firmware if anyone still needs it. My only request is that someone who is a mod point me to the preferred tool/procedure and also verify the dump does not have any personally identifiable information on it. Id hate to find out that I dumped private keys or passwords or some other tid bit that allowed someone to screw up my account. (FIRST POST) I do infosec for a living so I'm pretty sure I can handle whatever instructions you guys recommend, Just trying to give back a little to the site that has taught me Android.

Ahh if only I saw this 6 hours ago I just sent my phone into samsung to get it fixed. I think that many many people would appreciate you if you were to do so. you should probably make your own thread for this, there's definitely someone who will be willing to help you. if you manage to do it thank you.

I have the G870A as well. I got stuck on the boot logo after root but held the power button to force a reboot. You could have also forced a reboot to recovery and tried to wipe cache and reboot. If I get into this problem again I'll let everyone know how I got out of it.

It'll allow us to basically dump the partitions in our phones. However, there's no way I can think of to turn this into an Odin tar file (unless its as easy as compressing as tar?) but this might still be useful If I see anything else, I'll let you guys know

[Q] Can't update Sprint Tab (SPH-P100)

I have a refurbed Sprint Galaxy Tab SPH-P100 that I bought off Woot. It's off contract and I use it as a wifi-only device.
Firmware 2.2
Build SPH-P100.DJ14
From my understanding there have been a number of updates to this device from DJ14 to DJ30, EA24, EB28, and finally the Gingerbread.EF17
I've looked around and it seems most people receive the updates OTA via 3G, but some also got it over wifi. All have cited saying they've received notifications about the update, but my Tab hasn't received anything, so I can't update. When I manually click on update firmware, it'll run for a few seconds and give me an unknown error. And when I click on Update Android it'll say "your system is currently up to date."
If somebody knows how to solve this or maybe direct me in the right direction that'd be greatly appreciated!

Download that and rename it update.zip and put it on the root of your SD card, then boot into recovery using volume up and power I believe and choose apply update.zip
If that doesn't work let me know and I'll give you the Odin download. If you want rooted gingegread let me know before you do any of this since you will have to re-download the rooted gingerbread instead.

First of all, thanks for choosing to help me Jazz.
Okay, so I tried what you suggested and it began to show the unpacking animation but ultimately ended up giving me a / ! \ sign.
What I'm wondering could be the problem is...do I have to do stepwise updates starting from DJ14 > DJ30 > EA24 > EB28 > EF17?
Or is it okay to apply the EB28 update while I'm still on DJ14?
But that's just a guess. Anyway it's stuck on that exclamation point and doesn't seem to be proceeding. What should I do? Thanks!

Ok ya that's what it is but if your there you can reboot nothing installed so you should be fine. But you might have to update using Odin but this will factory reset your tablet because I can't find a link to update you to every firmware using recovery.

Okay. Thanks for the help. I'll try the Odin method. Is there anything I should know about Odin or is it pretty straightforward? I'd be okay with a factory reset.
I've been digging around a bit to see if there was a method already and Rodderik here provided a method but it looks like I still have to be on the latest EF17 before I make an attempt. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275031

Download and unzip that Just make sure you have your correct drivers installed.open the Odin that's in that zip, Boot into download mode and plug it in to the computer. Make sure you see a yellow com box pop up in Odin it means it detected a device. Click pit and search the pit file you just extracted and then click PDA and select that EF17 firmware and just hit start

So fast forward four years and here I am with this same question. I haven't the slightest idea how many updates have rolled out since then! I'd like to update my sph-p100 to be more current and while I'm computer savvy, I'm not "modification/programming savvy"
I also have a nook color and have been tossing around the idea of turning it into an android. I'm confused on some of the steps. Like 2-10 lol! Is there a link to a KitKat image (I think that's what it's called?) that I could save to that little chip and then pop into the nook, like how you suggested him to do to update his? I would appreciate it!!!
By the way, I'm a newbie on here, and you were my first. My first post that is. Lol, little humor for your Monday

Because it's on general section and It's information that should be available to all.
The thread you referring to is exclusively for 720T so I asked the question there first but since no one responded I searched and I thought It would be useful to let know the others on the thread!!
If the information about 4.4.2 update thread is already there provide the link.
Before posting I searched and wasn't able to find any OTA info.
So remove threads and pardon my ignorance but my intent was to help!!!
I really do think it is about time to add a SPH-L720T section, it is already quite difficult to find post about this phone, they are mixed in with the standard SPH-720.
Anyone agree?
I wouldn't mind a subform.....It is hard, but a little reading and searching will get you to where you need.

Awesome "Samsung Experience"
I hadn't noticed until last night that since I got this (NC6) update on my phone, that several things were screwed up. Namely, the Hotspot Toggle was gone from the "Connections" settings tab, Sprint Zone was replaced by something called Mobile Zone that always errored out when you tried to open it. And lastly, the Tethering and Roaming settings were completely missing - as in gone, as in not there. After much frustration I tried a factory reset, but to no avail. Nothing changed. Same problems. On a whim, I decided to see what the guys at the Samsung Experience at Best Buy could do for me. I was pleasantly surprised to be helped by a sharp, knowledgeable guy who really knew his stuff. He was a fellow geek and was familiar with XDA and all the ins and outs of Samsung/Android phones. He did not have the NC6 version available to flash, but he did have NAF (KitKat update). So he flashed NAF to my phone with Samsung's SMART firmware tool (a glorified Kies that I would love to have access to!). And unlike going to the Sprint store, I didn't have to wait 30 minutes to be helped and my phone didn't disappear to the back room for another 30 minutes to be abused and mishandled by an overworked and probably under-trained and underpaid sprint employee. I stood right there beside the guy at his laptop while he showed me the software and flashing process. Totally awesome!
This fixed all the above issues plus another interesting thing too. Some of you are probably familiar with a little quirk in the S4 (and S3 too) in the stock recovery - when you reboot, it would show "Error!" under the little android robot. This always bugged me because I knew it shouldn't do that. Well my newly flashed S4 no longer says "Error!" when you reboot from recovery. I have no idea why it did it before or what changed to make it go away, but I feel better now that it's gone. It's probably major placebo effect but my phone seems snappier and smoother than ever.
So to make a long story short, "Samsung Experience" is totally awesome compared to going to the Sprint store. I will be going back when they get the NC6 (and possibly every future update as well) to have it flashed properly to my phone. I know I probably could have done the same thing myself with Odin and the firmware packages from Sammobile.com, but having them do it makes them responsible if anything goes wrong. And since I'm still under warranty, I don't want to do anything to void my warranty.
Amazing when things actually work the way they're supposed to...
Upon further investigation, it looks like I actually can re-initialize my phone using Kies now. I had tried doing it before going to the Samsung place at Best Buy, but when I tried the "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization", it said is was unsupported or something to that effect. That was because I already had NC6 on my phone, which wasn't available in Kies yet - just like even the Samsung guys didn't have it yet. But now that I have NAF, when I try "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" it does give me the option to actually do it. The message says it will delete all user data and write the current software to the device - which is what I think they did for me at Best Buy. Only Kies couldn't load NAF for me while I had NC6 on my phone. So once NC6 makes it to Kies (if it ever does) I should be able to do a pristine flash using Kies instead of going to Best Buy if my phone starts acting up again.
You guys probably know all of this already, but I'm still learning...

No, you CAN'T. That was my original problem. Kies still thinks NAF is the latest version so it can't do anything with NC6 - it doesn't recognize it as the latest verstion - in fact it doesn't know NC6 exists at all. It will only initialize with what it thinks is the latest version. But since I have NAF now, Kies can do the full initialization with NAF. Like if I ever hosed my phone while it had NAF, I could fix it by doing a clean flash of NAF with Kies. And eventually I would think NC6 would become available in Kies. Then you should be able to do a clean flash of NC6 using Kies too.

No I didn't. I thought about it, and it probably would have worked, but everything I read said that would trip the Knox warranty flag. However now that I see the Samsung guy was able to do it - and it DIDN'T trip the Knox flag - I checked afterwards. And I even asked him if it would before he flashed my phone. So assuming the Samsung SMART firmware tool uses Odin at it's core, maybe I could have done it myself and not tripped the Knox flag. Or maybe the Samsung software has something that Odin doesn't that keeps it from tripping Knox. I just didn't want to use my phone as a guinea pig to prove or disprove whether or not downgrading firmware would trip Knox. Again, everything I read indicated that even flashing official Knox-enabled firmware that was a lower version than what was currently on the device would trip Knox.
My phone has downloaded this update automatically, and when it boots into stock recovery gives me an Error and aborted message. I'm assuming that's because I am stock rooted. So, can I download the zip and flash it myself through recovery? I honestly don't recall what recovery I'm running. It's been a couple months, and as a recovering flashaholic, I haven't gone beyond stock. I only wanted root to get rid of the bloat.

You have to completely be unmodified. I think root has not stopped it, but you'll likely lose it afterwards. If you stripped the Rom, themed, or installed a custom recovery, you have to revert back to stock.

[Q] Flashed TWRP Idiotically! :P && KNOX Tripped

Hey guys,
I flashed a TWRP recovery through flashfire and got this security error probably caused by a flagged KNOX. I found that the param.bin contains alot of of the POST/BOOT stuff including the boot logo. Digging deeper though found compiled stuff . I am posting the stuff maybe someone might be able to help that way we can get rid of that check and have a recovery. Don't get me wrong flashfire is awesome ,but at times you just need a recovery. As far as the KNOX stuff goes should I keep the phone?(since I may not be able to use MST, I still have 5 days to exchange it.)
See what att can do and if nothing then exchange it for a more customizable phone att locked bootloader caused this so if u still want the s6 get a tmobile varient and put the att chip in. It works and tmobile lets you do whatever you want with the phone so enjoy custimization.

FYI the phone is up and running a custom rom. Even on T-mobile I would still have to be careful with knox tripping after a recovery is flashed. Thanks for your reply man appreciated. Also if I could get some help on cracking the param.bin it would benefit every one that is not on T-mobile .

Hey KryptosXLayer2 ,
I did read I just wanted to do it anyway to see. That how I had found the param.bin in the official rom. I am actually trying to get help on fixing this issue. My thinking is that if we can remove the secure_error.jpg from the bin and repackage it correctly. I should just resume booting. Because there is nothing to be done.

Using the firmware of a differnt country/ model number? G925A to G920F

Hi, i wish i could figure this out on my own and not trouble anyone but i just i cant. I've already soft bricked the phone trying, though I've fixed that now and its back to normal.
What i am trying to do is put The UK H3G network firmware (SM-G920F) on to my American ATT phone (G925A). The reason is, i'm in the UK on the 3 network so it would be nice if the phone just worked as it should do if i had bought it here. I cant update it OTA and the phone seems to think its American in general.
Is this even possible? Im using Odin3. I downloaded the g920f firmware from sammobile. It was just one file, i put it into the AP section, i assume that's right? It didn't work though, a few different errors resulting in fails and nice soft brick at the end. The files i used to un-brick the phone had AP,CP,BL and CSC files. Sorry for my ignorance but do i need these 4 files to achieve what i want?
Well id be very grateful of any help or advice in this.
You cannot use firmware for a different version of the phone. Trying so can end in a hardbrick

Oh thanks, impossible or just risky? I'm sure i saw others talking about doing it and the guy in my phone shop even said i could try it. Do the phones have different internals or something?

The US AT&T and VZW branded devices have locked bootloaders. The international versions (which I would imagine is what your local cellular guy is familiar with, being in the UK) are somewhat more, ummm, flexible on what software they can run. I would guess (but don't know for sure) that you could probably recover with Odin if you bricked in attempting what you want to try.

Hey thanks, what kind of file would i need to try it though? I downloaded the at&T firmware from somewhere that matched the model number and it had 4 files, ap,bl,csc and another one, im not sure what they do individually, but they worked. When i looked up the uk firmware, it only had an ap file, which didn't work using odin, i got a fail. Do you know where i can find H3G uk SM-G920F that has all 4 files or at least the files i would need to do this? I am sorry, i'm sure i'm asking stupid questions but i appreciate your help thanks.

Check the non AT&T specific S6 forum. Much more activity there than here. If you can't find it in the stickies or with search, someone there can probably point you in the right direction.

Well i think it's just what you flash. For example, messing up the kernal will hardbrick but some thinks like AP and csc i think are fine to flash but may not work

Need help fixing my bootloop stuck s3 mini

The model is SM-G730V
and it is a verizon galaxy s3 mini (if anymore info is needed i can provide)
I dont know precisely how my phone ended up stuck in bootloop or what i did to cause it, it just shut off one day and when i rebooted it was seemingly done for. Tried for weeks and gave up, ive got a laptop now that im able to flash with, and judging by the fact it won't boot correctly i take it i need to flash new stock firmware entirely. Theres many downloads available for both odin and for the firmware i will need for my device, im hoping someone can point me in the direction of a safe virus free version of both as im not skilled in any of this and am worried about getting viruses. Anything will be appriciated
