So every once and a while I go with my father to his trailer and he has a TV there. We get little to no service there. We always bring a Wifi Hotspot (Even though theres no point). I also like to use the app ShowBox. If I download the movie through there, could I stream it through AllCast even though there is no internet connection? Just ShowBox app ------> Wifi Hotspot --------> Chromecast with out internet access?
Chromecast requires Internet access. And we don't talk about that app you mentioned here on XDA.

I have not tried yet this method in the absence of gsm connection, but it might work.

I dont know if this is the right place to place this but, this is my question: Since i tether to get internet access, (dont have internet access at home) and plus, i dont have the tethering plan, so i can hotspot or anything. so, is it possible to bridge my tethered internet connection into something, so that IF i buy a chromecast, i can get the chromecast to connect to it.
You can load ddwrt on to a compatible router. Set it up to repeat your tethered connection as a separate network that has the chrome cast and your remote device connected to it.

actually, is it possible? because, if i have it tethered, and then i connect to the router, would the internet still go through to my phone so that i still get an internet connection?
If you are tethering a phone connection then you also need a second remote device (tablet, phone, or computer) to control the chromecast. The phone won't show up on the network.

Hi Expert,
just wondering why CC is not working if we have no internet connection. for example for last several days I have a problem with my ISP and
we dont have internet connection but our local WIFI is working, and I was noticed when we have no internet CC is not working (I cannot play movie locally through extension or even cast photo using BubbleUPnP).
is it normal like this? I have rooted CC using latest eureka image.
Thanks
When you launch an app on the Chromecast, it has to download the app from the internet before it can run. Once the app has launched you can disconnect from the internet if it is only accessing local content (like Plex).

thanks DJames1 so in other words, if the CC is not connected to internet there is no way we can use it? because I thought we can stream local files using local wifi by utilizing local bandwidth. for example I would like to watch movie and using VideoStream that should be within local connection, because I can see when I have internet I dont see any bandwidth used on my WAN connection, its only using local bandwidth within my network.
DJames is correct. When an App connects to the CCast, the CCast goes on the Net to load up the player app associated with the App your trying to use.
Once that App is loaded however, Internet connection is no longer needed and all of the data is using the local network.
Good to know in cases where the only Net Access is via Mobile Data which on most Carriers is Metered.
The CCast Player Apps themselves are very small since most of the control code is on the launch device. So it won't eat up your Mobile Data while streaming unless your data is also coming over the Internet.
The default player app is always downloaded?
I thought that the problem was that as soon as it started and couldn't get to the Google DNS, it immediately acted as an AP to go to setup mode.
In any case, before a player can be loaded if needed, pretty sure it has to see if Google has whitelisted the app in question.
thanks guys for enlightening me ... is there anyway to make CCast can be working with no internet connection?
regarding white list, I was putting eureka as default white list.

Yes, that would be a problem too if you are starting from a power-off state. But even if the Chromecast was already on, it still needs internet access when you start a new app.

You may be right about looking for Google DNS on startup but I'm not sure it goes into setup mode if it fails to find it.
It will go into setup if it can not connect to or find the access point it was last setup to connect to, but if that access point just happens to not have Internet at the time and fails the Google DNS check I do not think the CCast will go into Setup AP mode. Just notifies you on the home screen that it does not have internet access,

If it can't reach Google DNS,
(requested refused/blocked) - it'll complain that it's connected to router but cannot reach Internet
(request timed out) - it'll fall back to DHCP-supplied DNS
It will not drop back to setup AP mode unless the configured router or access point cannot be associated.
You're right that in order for player to be loaded, it has to be on the whitelist.
Forgive me if I'm covering well-worn territory, I didn't see it posted, but I've also got a wicked head cold and my Google-fu is weak today.
The question I have is is it possible without the Full Internet permission to pass data to the internet via any Chromecast in WiFi range, or is full internet required just to connect to the Chromecast?
IE can an app with no internet access or restricted accesses using the Chromecast APIs/Google Play Services still connect to the first Chromecast it sees and then attempt to start streaming from http://hackyou.com&mediaid=myphonenumber&myemailaddress&whateverelseitstole
Leaving whoever runs that site with a log entry of your purloined info?
Hello. Just looking to know if the wifi tether router app works with the galaxy s6 edge for verizon that's rooted. If it does can someone list their setting gs and procedure to make it work
I apologize that I put this in the wrong section. Could an administrator place it in the right spot? Thanks.

if you look around a bit on the vzw s6 forum there is a modified .zip you can flash in flashfire to enable native tethering.. why not just use that?

Excuse my ignorance, but I have the full ability to tether from my device natively without any modification. Are we talking unlimited tether? Because the Verizon Hotspot app allows for tethering with no issue. Am I missing something? Is that not on every s6 edge?
Here's what I got going on. I have an app radio 3 in my car by pioneer. To be able to use the touch screen and to mirror my phone to the app radio, I need to use a Google Chromecast, and the app radio unchained reloaded app. With this in mind, when I use the native tether that comes with the phone, it disables wifi. Now my chrome cast is connected to the net like it's supposed to, but it doesn't see my phone cause the phone isn't on the same network. Make sense? Using the Wifi Tether Router App, it keeps wifi enabled so my phone is acting like a hotspot which the chrome cast connects to, AND allows my phone to also see the chrome cast. Hope that isn't too confusing.

wifi tether means you share your phones data connection with another device.. what you mean (correct me if im wrong) is to share your phones data connection AND have wifi on to connect it to your pioneer? have you tried the way you used it on other devices? howd you set it up before?

I figured it out. The stock tether that is native to the s6 galaxy edge works fine. I was going about this all wrong with the chromecast app. I don't need any of the fancy apps like foxfi or wifi tether router, etc.... So all is now good. I was an idiot to not figure it out sooner. Thanks.

I hated that that interface with a passion! Bought it a while ago and put it in my H3. Worst buy ever. Connection start to not connect after awhile and apps seemed to never work half the time.

I have Comcast.. sadly not an option for me to change ISPs. I am in the one of the few lucky areas that has a data cap on streaming.
I also have T-Mobile where I have unlimited uncapped streaming for Netflix.
I am wondering is there a way on an rooted Android Device (my case a Nexus 7 or Galaxy S5) that I can use my T-Mobile LTE line to stream netflix onto my Chromecast (2014) without going through my Comcast/Wifi connection?
Maybe this would work by turning on phone hotspot then connecting both chromecast and tablet to hotspot. Cast from tablet.

This worked. I had a phone signal today so tried it. I set up hotspot on N5, connected my N9, then had to set up the new network (I unplugged my router) via Chromecast on N9 using the hotspot. I opened Netflix, started a video, then cast it.
You can use your phone as a Hotspot, but you still need to have WiFi on to use the apps.
