E-Cell Luxury Protective Leather Case [Review]

So I've just received the case today and here is my mini review. I apologise for the blurry photo's lol
First I will point out that I'm not sure whether it is real leather or not, it smells similar but is quite faint - I'd say that is isn't real. Either way I'm not fussed as it was £8.95 and it still looks and feels nice.

It was very easy to get the Nexus 7 into the case, first I put the right side into the case and gently pushed on the left and it popped straight in. defiantly feels secure.
It fits really well and the front flap will protect the screen from any hard objects,
As you can see all the ports are exposed, even the microphones have cut outs.
You can see the speaker has a cut out, I haven't noticed any difference in volume.
If you try to fold the flap behind the device you end up with this, which could be good for typing on the keyboard in landscape. Although if you place pressure on it you can hold it fine in portrait mode.
The case is very stable in the 'stand' mode and you can angle it to how you want.
Overall I am very happy with the case and I feel that it will defiantly protect the Nexus 7 so I won't really have to worry as much as it being 'naked'.
It also features the magnet sleep sensor function!

It looks pretty nice and it's what I was after as I don't really want a bulky case that covers the whole device, I've also purchased gloss and matte screen protectors.
Does anyone here have this already? or has ordered one too?
I'll update this with a review once I get it.

No problem, glad to help.
I don't think it does unfortunately but my device is charging atm so I haven't even tried. Tbh I think with a small enough magnet you could fit on yourself.
Or you can use the Proximity Sensor sleep applications.

I can confirm that it does indeed have the magnet sleep function! I have just been able to test it as my Nexus 7 was charging.
It does not turn the tablet off when you flip the front cover around to the back either!

Yeah it doesn't have a ridge, it depends how you place the tablet. If you are using it on a flat surface and you are not moving the tablet then it will stay in place. However if you start moving around the tablet will slowly start to slide until it comes off the front flap and stops.
It can stay in place well if you don't move around much if you are resting it on your legs though.

[Review] Seidio Active Case

Today before lunch, I got in the Seidio Active case with front cover/kickstand. It's much like the Kindle Fire case I had. So I am glad that I now have it protecting my N7.
As you can see it is the black version. All the cutouts are there EXCEPT for the POGO Pins. But I see it as if you are going to use the POGO pins, you HAVE to remove the case to use a POGO device, so I am am ok with covering it up at this time.
The case comes in three parts, the rubber polymer, hard exterior skeleton, and the mounting cover. The rubber does attract dust especially when brand new out of the box lol, but after a while, the dust and debris will get easier to wipe off with your hand. The front cover can be slipped on the back of the case for convenience and IMO added protection. And there is no magnets to speak of. Which is ok, IMO, I'll just use my volume rockers to turn it on, which I do anyway.
If you have any Seidio products on any of your devices, this does not disappoint. All the cutouts are there and the front camera is clear from the rubber exterior as well. Without the front cover, the Nexus 7 is comfy in my hand and i can see gaming on this more and more...if my 4 year old is not hogging it up lol....
To sum it up, the case is what I expected from Seidio and the quality of their cases. I have been a repeat customer for years and I forsee that I may be again when I get my next device, whatever that may be.

I answered those generally in the other Seidio thread but forgot to post the question and answers here, so here it goes:
1. Is it bulky?
Ans: No more bulkier than my Treegloo case. It actually feels thinner than the treegloo and Kindle Fire version IMO, that's without the front cover on the back :cyclops:.
2. Does it add to the thickness/weight?
Ans: It does seem a bit heavier. I think it has to do with the skeleton and rubber combo. But it feels comfortable in the hand because of the rubber exterior IMO. Is it thick? See answer one lol...well if you are coming from a naked N7 then this would be a major step but also major protection IMO.

I took some pics showing the difference in thickness (with measurements) with the case and cover part way down this page, also near the bottom I posted the weight of the bare 7, with case and with case/cover.

Is it me, or the case is somewhat "curvy"? Especially in you last picture, it looks like the rubber doesn't make straight lines around the screen.

I see what you mean. Keep in mind I had just put the case on prior in taking pics. As of now the case has "settled" around the device. Ill try to take a comparison pic.

Hmm...looks the same doesn't it? LOL. In the pics I see what you are saying but when looking at it, it looks ok to me lol.

Having a closer look, it looks like there's some barrel distortion with your camera, as even the screen itself isn't fully square. The case is probably fine (and the lines do look smoother in the more recent picture).

Can you use the harder protective back to cover the front of the screen?

Got mine and am not disappointed in the least. Pretty much great in every way. Highly recommended.

I am interested in this case as well. Could someone get a pic of the case and tab side by side laying flat on a desk/table? I'm trying to get a feel for how much thicker it ends up being with the top on it. Thanks

Has anyone tried this specific "smart cover" case?

I looked around for smart covers on ebay and found the cover below. It doesn't fold around like this case does and in general looks more stable judging by the pictures (they could be wrong though).
Have any of you tried it? I have not found a review of it yet but I figured it might be worth asking.

Yes I have this case, I tell you its a beautiful case to hold and look at. There are other colour variants available which I got the red one.
Its very sleek, doesn't add much weight or bulk to the device.
The sleep functions works brilliantly, and doesn't lock the device when you fold it over to hold like a book, which some do.
ONE DOWNSIDE!!!! - The stand is very hard to figure out (i have not yet figured how to fold it to make it stand up haha !)
Hope this helps answer your questions.
And I genuinly recommend this case as its ace ! (that rhymes weee)

Have you got a link for any of the other colours? The ones I see in multiple colours are the ones with the wrap-around magnetic closure in the back (which I have, I'd like to have one that just lies over the screen for use at home).

I think it's noticeable, especially when I have that extra flap to fold back over when I'm using the N7 in my hand.
I want to keep it closed and secure, sure, when it's in a bag or something. But my N7 spends most of its time on my coffee table or bar; I'd love to have a slim case with just a flap over the screen to keep the dust out. That doesn't cost $30+ like the Poetics or Portenzos of the world.

So do you have this exact case or not? I've seen the other ones and I'm not interested in them after reading the reviews. That's why I started a new thread about this one. If you do have this one, some pictures would be great.

I went and ordered one of these, but likely won't have it for a couple of weeks since it's coming from China. Will post my impressions when it arrives.

That's a different case, with the wrap-around flap on the right side. I already have that one.

look, heres the deal, that case may look pretty but any case like that wont stay closed. for it to be closed, there would have to be magnets along the edges like the portfolio. any case maker that says the case will stay closed without magnets on the border is lying.

I own one and its awesome. Buy it.

I have to admit, I never really liked these cases... but after seeing that YouTube review online, I'm curious enough to give it a shot.
I'm absolutely in love with this Speck case, but I do have a minor concern with it. I use my Nexus 7 frequently, very frequently, and not only that but I use it for work. I'm continually walking up and down the hall at work going from one problem to another, using my N7 along the way. As a result, I'm concerned I may wear out the clip on the Speck case quite a bit. This only became a thought when I realized the clipping mechanism is significantly easier now than it was when I bought it. Broken in? Maybe. Will it get even softer? Very possible. This case ensures that won't happen since the magnets of course don't have physical contact to wear like that. While the higher stand up position seems a bit easy to topple over, the other one with the N7 (one I'd likely prefer anyway) looks a bit better in terms of stability.
At any rate, ah, I bought one just now - we'll see what happens when it gets here.
Edit - for what it's worth the one I ordered did indeed have the magnetic flap that goes around back to ensure it stays shut. I'm not sure I'd consider one without...

Case arrived today, so far I like it, the cover lies flatter than the eBay case with the extra flap, and it feels slimmer. Only downside so far is that it sometimes puts the tablet to sleep when I fold it back. We'll see if it gets better over time. I'll try to take pictures when I have a chance.

maybe slip something to block the magnet on the back? not sure what can maybe help on that front, but maybe a little thickness might be enough.
Side note, anyone have this and the poetic slimline case? I got the first case they had for my uncle, but it's a bit difficult for him to open. I'd get him a portenzo like mine, but it might actually add more bulk than I'd want for him.

I also purchased the carbon fiber skin from slickwraps and I just received it today. I only purchased it to cover the back of the phone. I installed it and took some pics with a camera that can focus . As much as I liked the back of the phone, the dark color shows EVERYTHING and I wanted to protect it, so I figured this would be a good option. This wrap has a nice texture to it as well, so it is not nearly as slippery now. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

The instructions from Slickwraps show to start by aligning it around the camera opening. I tried that, but struggled to keep it straight on the sides. I ended up lining it up on one of the curved sides and it turned out great. I am thankful that it was not a clear cover, however, since did have to peel it off a couple of times when I tried aligning using the camera opening. Since my cover is black, it hides any issues, including any dust.

I've never used a skin before. but I see people really struggling to get screen protectors right, but everyone seems to get skins perfect. How does that work? I've considered a skin, but it would bug me so much if it wasn't perfect. Whats the deal with getting it so perfect?

I am right there with you on need to get it as perfect as possible. I had to peel it off a couple of times to get it to fit right. The key, in my opinion, is to take your time. Since the back is glass, the skins stick really well...almost too well when trying to install them. I did get it right on the first try as soon as I used one of the curved sides for alignment. It makes it a lot easier when it is not a clear protector because it hides any finger prints, dust, etc. that may make their way in during the installation. I am sure I would have had visible issues if this were a clear protector.

I tried the sides a couple times, but could never center it correctly. I ended up using the top and camera. That didn't end up very straight either lol

I got the natural series tan distressed leather from Slickwraps. I think it looks amazingly amazing to say the least. It was also the easiest skin to apply (Took me less than 2 minutes); due to the rigidity of the leather , and the precise fit. The leather looks, feels and smells great, all while adding a much needed grip to the back of the phone. One thing I was worried about was how thick the leather would be. I'm happy to say that the leather wrap fits perfectly and doesn't really add much bulk to the phone. The back now sits flush to the protruding camera; letting the phone sit perfectly flat on a table and not rock back and forth. I'll drop some pictures to give you guys a better idea of how it looks.

Amazing. Got the same color coming Monday. Any heat needed? Did you try burnishing the edges down at all? Seems like the guy with the black one did a good job of that with a pen.

I don't think it needed the heat, but I hit it with a blow dryer on the edges just to be sure. I also did burnish the edges a bit after I took the pictures so it would it would sit even closer to the metal frame on the sides. Honestly look great. You'll love it.

I installed it and took some pics with a camera that can focus . As much as I liked the back of the phone, the dark color shows EVERYTHING and I wanted to protect it, so I figured this would be a good option. I have tested this since I installed the skin and have seen no issues .

Any ideas if this skin could be removed and later re-applied? Just curious cause I like these, but may not always just wanna have a skin on. I may wanna use a case, and so then what...

I am they they can be removed, but I am not sure about being re-applied. They do really stick to the back of the phone since it is glass. It took me a couple of attempts to get it aligned just right and it was not easy to peel off. If you are able to remove it without damage and the wrap is not clear, I would think you may be able to re-apply it a couple of times.

It has nothing to do with bumping my review up as i dont benefit anything by doing that. I am just after some unbiased responses from other xda members. I am interested in knowing if others share my view or not. Like i have said before i dont make any money from my reviews it is a hobby and i am just trying to help others.

I never said that you did, but bumping a post less than 24 hours later isn't necessary without new additions. I was only mentioning this because it's something that I see quite often. I will let you know what my impressions are later tonight as I mentioned.

Did you get the black or red one? If you got the red could you please post some pics of it on the phone. Also do the sides feel well fitted or a little bit loose sometimes on the volume rocker side about a third way up? I

Black one, and my sides aren't loose, but it messes with ym screen protector I have to install a new one now. I'll post more about it in a bit; it also has a small defect on the back.

Well to be honest they all have been sh*ty thus far. I have the yootech currently which is nice depsite it lifting with most cases. I've tried 9 different ones so far without one really being 'great'. I'm going to replace it with one I bought from Verizon as an intern solution

Why did you bump your thread? You know that you are supposed to wait 24 hours before doing that.

I posted the review of it in my case OP. I was disappointed in more than one way with the case, and it did have the issues you mentioned, as well as some others.

Great review for a great looking case. I think buying this one or Spigen Rugged Armor. My main goal for a case is the minimal bulk, no fingerprints and nice looks. What do you think if i should go with spigen or evutec ? I am very familiar with Dupont Kevlar as i have had Kevlar on a number of old motorola phones, i like the kevlar material, you cant go wrong with it. I wouldn't think for a second and buy this if they used the following pattern instead of the boring and regular carbon pattern..Looks nicer, doesn't it ?

Hi and thanks for the kind words, the evutec will be more protective in my opinion. Evutec is also unusual as I would doubt anyone in Turkey has one so it's unique which is something I like as I love being different. The Spigen case is lovely you could always get both and return the one you don't like.
I bought my evutec case from eBay as the seller I bought it from was selling it cheaper and shipped to the UK in fact he ships internationally I am sure evutec don't ship internationally so it's worth checking out eBay or even mobile fun as they might ship to Turkey also there is a red version of this case for sale. I hope this helps

Thanks ram, good to know they ship to Turkey but the price including shipping cost is 40$ and i couldn't justify that much of money for a case. I am going to wait for prices to go down a little more. :good:

See if you can find it on eBay, I bought one from an American seller and shipping was free to the UK and it cost £21 which is not too bad.
