I have searched all over and not really found any fixes for this, if I missed it can someone post a link. Every time I get to the recovery page and do a backup it starts and then just says "failed". It creates a folder also, I just can't figure out how to get the backup to finish successfully.

Try using enable compression.
I have tried that, same thing happens. I have also tried backing up to my internal SD card and ext SD card. Both have plenty of free space.

I have the same problem... I would like to know as well.
I was able to back up the system alone. I tried Data alone and same failed message. I mainly just want to know if need to restore from a custom ROM do I need both or will the system part be enough?

It seems the lagfix screws up nandroid backups. I suggest uninstalling it then creating your backup.
You have to first flash ClockworkMod then do your backup. I do this by going into recovery just below the clockwork flash. Once getting into recovery menu choose the option for Nandroid, be patient it can take a full 10 minutes or more just be patient and let do it's thing. It may appear to hang but just let it run, it will take longer on certain files.

Gunny it just takes a little bit to get through that part. I thought the same thing but I just left it alone and it just took an extra few minutes and it did get through it.

depends on which one you used. The ext4 one and and the ext2 versions both have uninstallers.

I've never had a problem running nandroid backup and i'm using one of the lagfixes (damned if i remember which). I'm still using stock however, until the 2.1 (or even 2.2?) ROM scene gets a little more seasoned.
Must be just me then. I couldn't get nandroid backup/restore to work

Nandroid does work with the lagix one click or ext4, people are impatient and panic when it isn't instantly zipping through processes. I ran one last night and I am running ext4 and SRE.

Are you running the most recent Clockworkmod? I ran it last night, it definitely took a while so just sit tight and let it do it's thing.

I am trying to download the new bionic update files to my phone to perform the updates... i have performed all the steps to return to stock... and now i cant download. I get a message that download was unsuccessful. Any ideas why? My sd card is mounted and i can view all files in root explorer.

Try a different browser. Sometimes the stock browser acts weird.

Have you tried wifi or no wifi or both?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I've tried both. I was able to fix the issue this evening by completely formatting my external sd card via mass storage. I tried to download first with a quick format, and only worked when doing a full format. There has got to be another way. Now, if I can just figure out how to get to. 893 (forever root and fast boot, yada, yada, and I still get errors) and also figure out why after installing DT's current rom, the my apps page in the market app, does not allow me to see my apps, just a black screen.
Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm an amateur ROM flasher and I usually get around a problem after a few hours of messing around with the device and forums but I am absolutely stumped by this one. After unsuccessfully trying to flash a few roms, I decided to restore my phone back to what it was because I backed it up only a few hours before. All it would load is a black screen with the status bar showing the time and no signal, sometimes allowing me to slide to unlock to my saved launcher with still a black background. Not only would it never get reception, it would reboot within two minutes. This cycled until the battery would die. I ended up deleting everything on the device itself in attempt to fix something, not thinking I would delete my back ups and then my ability to ever get my phone past bootloader or recovery. I can still do fastboot commands and change the recovery, but besides that, it's a brick. Any kind of help would mean the world, thanks!

Im geussing you dont have any other phone to download a rom to an sd card and put it in ur phone?
It would beat having to go thru all the adb setup if your not familiar with adb .

It's not a brick until nothing lights up our charges. And since there is no sd slot, that's out. You have access to recovery, you're fine. Download a stable Rom and just like fastboot, do an adb push of the Rom like suggested above. Wipe data, caches, and format system before flashing. No worries. All its not lost.

Any of those adb commands results only with "error: device not found"
This may not be a fix for HTC phones, but on Samsung devices, I've had to uninstall and reinstall drivers several times. Do and uninstall, run a registry cleaner, reboot pc, reinstall drivers, reboot, and try adb again. I used to do that every so often with my Samsung devices that wouldn't be properly detected by my pc. It usually fixed my problem.

How would I get around to doing this on a Mac? It's all I got.
Sorry, I'm not a Mac guy. I couldn't tell you. Can you poach some time on pc at work or a friend's? You may also be able to boot a Linux live disc on your Mac and work from there. Takes some effort, but may help.

No offense meant, but that information really needs to be in the first post. It could have made things significantly easier. We also really need to know what ROMs you were trying, because the problems you'r edescribing vaguely sound like you've flashed a GSM ROM somewhere along the line by accident, in which case you will need to RUU (and most of the guides are unfortunately pretty Windows-centric).

No offense taken. Unfortunately, a Mac is all I'm able to use at the moment. I'm trying to run CleanRom from the sprint htc one development section of this site, so I'm fairly certain it should work. My main problem right now is that using adb commands my phone is not recognized. Using fastboot, though, works absolutely fine to do whatever I need and recognizes my device. I've tried using twrp and clockworkmod recovery touch to sideload any zip file and just won't work. All it says after trying that is "failed to open driver control: no such file or directory".
Please do tell me if any other information would help you help me faster. I don't frequent forums so I'd imagine I'm quite frustrating to work with.
Anybody have any idea?
I remembered a little while back a thread to get me back and running. This is for my htc one. Anyone know the link. I hit the search bar and I think I just too nervous to focus and find it.

Use ADB to sideload a rom then you can transfer your TWRP backup to the device and go from there.
here is the guide to sideload
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2318497
Don't you have to physically type yes in to wipe your internal memory?
can't you just boot into recovery, mount Internal memory, copy ROM into your phone and flash the rom?
I have never been in that situation but what about this:
I know that in TWRP recovery there is an option to acces USB OTG. I have one of those little adapters that I connect to my flash drive to save my nandroids and stuff like that. If you wiped your INTERNAL and EXTERNAL storage would you simple be able to mount the USB OTG and flash a ROM from it?
I'm guessing that it wouldn't be that simple...however, if anyone has any actual info on this please share.

I would've suggested trying to copy the backup you see in root browser to the external sd, you mentioned you installed to stock slot and wiped and every now and then ss does that, sometimes it erases your internal sd and maybe what you see in root browser are the "corpse" of the backup you made. Try to get an ex sd will save you a lot of headache in the future.
