If I root and rom my Kindle Fire HD 7, will I still be able to get and read my kindle books that I have bought from amazon? I want to put cyanogenmod on it.
Never mind, I was able to log in to my Amazon account on my rooted original Kindle Fire running the Otterx with CM11 and get my Kindle ebooks to load and be able to read. Thanks

My brother bought a kindle fire hd 7" from a guy on golsn. After getting home the guy reported it stolen and my brother's kindle won't allow him to do much. After contacting the company they told him he would have to file a police report and have proof of the purchase. Basically my brother is out of luck on that aspect... Does anyone know a work around for this or can at least point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Does it have a password lock if so there's not much you can do if it has a account on it just log it off and make your own Amazon account then it should work fine

No, it has no account currently and it will not allow him to sign up for an account or let me add my already currently working account. It just says error when we try.
Sounds like there's not much you can then

If you buy a factory cable, you might be able to boot the kindle into fastboot and factory reset it. I am not 100% sure about that and maybe someone else can confirm, but I think that is your best bet.
Yes, if I could get to fastboot I could do something. With his kindle fire. Anyone have any idea how to get kindle fire hd's into fastboot?
Hey everyone!!!
Great forum, so informative!! I think I've figured out how to root my new Nook HD. I do have a quick question though. I'm basically looking to root my Nook HD to be able to access my Kindle account and Amazon apps (I wanted a Kindle but I got the Nook as a gift).
Will the universal root work so that I can get Amazon apps & the Kindle reader? Also will that allow for videos from Amazon Prime as well?
Thanks
Maggie

Has anyone considered or know if it is possible to build a rom for this based on the stock kindle fire hd? If so I would be interested in trying.

I read this and thought it was sort of a goofy question at first but now you've got me thinking...
What happens if you install a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 ROM on the Nook HD+? For that matter, has anyone tried a stock Kindle Fire HD 8.9 restore? I know there are boot loader differences but I'm thinking leave the Nook HD+ bootloader or (working) custom recovery intact. Just the ROM itself. They're both OMAP 4 based - granted the Kindle has cameras and the Nook has the micro SD slot but they're pretty close to the same hardware-wise.
I'm intrigued to think I might be able to have my Nook think it's actually a Kindle Fire HD 8.9...
Thoughts?
Browsing around on the Kindle 8.9 Dev forum found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41301028
It mentions there being some secret data related to Amazon registration, along with serial # of the device. Given that, its probably not nearly as simple as getting a stock KF 8.9 ROM running on the Nook. You'd likely need a backup of the partition that post is referencing too. Also, could be that the Nook is using that area for something.
Very complex mess ... If you did happen to own both devices I guess you might be able to make your Nook spoof being your Kindle. Otherwise your best case I can imagine is your Nook is spoofing being someone else's Kindle which Amazon & that other Kindle's actual owner might not appreciate...

Ive been searching for a way to download Kindle Fire specific apps from the Amazon store to my Nook HD plus running cyanogen. Ive been "purchasing" the free Amazon app of the day for weeks, but a lot of them will only run on the kindle fire. You can purchase the app, but you cant download the kindle specific app unless you have a kindle fire.
As an alternative, has anyone tested downloading a kindle fire specific app, and copying the files over to another android device? Would the app still run?
Okay, I'm totally confused about my kindle and what guides I should be following. I mean, I see nearly a thread for every kindle but this one. I see a device section for just "Kindle Fire" then "Kindle Fire HD" 7"/8.9" and Kindle Fire 2. I have, from what's on the box, Kindle Fire HD. It's 7", but the "Kindle Fire HD 7"" shown on amazon's "what kindle do I have" page has a camera, and this one doesn't and I don't see any other Kindle Fire HD listed. Any help?
I have volume a power button on one side, a volume rocker on another side. No camera, and a software version of 11.3.0.3.
EDIT: UL'ed Home screen screenshot
EDIT: According to Amazon's adb set-up page it's a 3rd generation tablet.
Oh you have an hdx I think. There's a new forum for the kindle hdx, look for it on the main list of devices, I'd give you a link but I can't grab URLs for forums from within the xda app. I haven't seen any development yet for the new kindle, I wonder if binaries root method will still work or if they managed to patch that. Wouldn't try random rooting methods since the hdx is new and we don't know if there's a viable means to recover it after messing it up.

It's not an HDX but appears to be in the same generation.
I can't post the outside link to the amazon page because I'm new. But, go to amazon then append this after the .com, /dp/B00CU0NSCU
3rd gen should be hdx, also 11.x.x os is not an os used by any of the kfhd's or kf1/kf2. If you said 10.x.x I would say kindle fire 2.

Meh. So all 3rd gen kindle fires are considered HDX on XDA? I mean, that attempted "link" IT shows Mojito as the OS and is grouped with the HDXes but it just says HD on the page. It's an 8gb model and the HDXes come in 16, 32, and 64gb versions.
Yea I think amazon calls the, 4th, but we refer to them as third. Think it was mainly because of the processors used, 1st gen had omap, 2nd gen was omap but with m-shield on, now the new ones are snapdragons.

Might be the remake of the Kindle Fire HD 7 (not HDX). http://www.amazon.com/kindle-fire-hd-best-family-kids-tablet/dp/B00CU0NSCU The new one leaves out the features you mentioned but has 4.2 Jelly Bean, quad core etc.
Any of the newer generation have no exploits yet and it is strongly recommended not to even try any of them of you will kill that tablet.
I am confused
I have the $139 New Kindle Fire HD 7 and dont know what method to use to Root and Mod it.
The problem is the organization on the forum
KF and KF2 should be listed together, KFHD 7", 8.9" , 7" 2013, listed together, and the hdx's have there own group.
If its KFHD 7" w/o the camera its the 2013 version and do not use anything on this forum unless it specifically says 2013 model.
I am currently looking to buy Kindle Fire Hdx - 7" - 64gb and have lots of questions on purchase,
Should I wait to buy a different tablet which will be used mainly as an ereader of my color pdf books and magazines running my apps but I want a tablet good for gaming and watching movies as well so how is the Kindle in that regard?
The tablet I looking at has ads and how hard would be to totally remove the ads once rooted.
I want to be able to use the upcoming Fire OS 5.0 with a Lollipop ROM.
Is that possible now and how would it work as a dual boot or would the ROM and OS run concurrently?
Any words of wisdom on getting the right root and ROM for Kindle Fire Hdx?
I dont have tablet yet but seeing there are some conflicts with newest 4.5.3 or 7.5.1 firmwares. The number maybe higher that the ones I listed I just grabbed to numbers from YouTube posters.
Why 2 different numbers I am guessing 4.5.3 is for Kindle Fire Hdx what the other number mentioned?
I want to be able to use this tablet as a converted setup using google play store so how hard is that to add to tablet and what would it break in the process?
I want to purchase this tablet soon so posting now to get some feedback started. If this thread should be placed somewhere else for better coverage feel free to do so.
TIA!

Ok I bought my Kindle Fire HDX 7 and after updating the tablet its now version 4.5.4
I now want to root tablet and use a Lollipop ROM and if needed install I guessing I need to install GAPPS to add google play store and other google apps from what I been reading here or are the google apps installed when I install the new ROM?
So what ROM and Root method should I use and where do I get GAPPS if needed?
