[Q] HELP random square/rectangle on home screen because of facebook/fb messenger???

A long time galaxy nexus user here, and since i think facebook 2.0 or 1.9 there have been a random rectangle the pops up when pressing back two times in a row from the firends list. Now i thought it was just my nexus, but now on the One i've been getting it too. Its easy to avoid but still annoying. Using ARHD rom. With latest facebook app.
From sense, I enter the facebook app/ fb messenger app, click the the freinds list / online tab scroll down to see who's online, press back twice to go to home screen then bam! A random reactangle appears. Now i can avoid this by pressing back once and scrolling through the timeline/ conversation list on facebook or anything inbetween the 1st back press and second back press (if you know what i mean)
Anyone at all can reproduce this?

EDIT: ive also tried to return to stock and only have facebook installed and I am still reproducing it...

Have you looked at Facebook settings?
I can't find the option now, but it was "chat heads" or something.

I have no idea what that is, but in response to BenPope, I use chat heads and no they don't do that at all.

It happens to me for some reason. I just open the facebook / messenger app. Click on the friends tab. Press back twice and then a rectangle appears.so strange

I tried reproducing what you said, nothing happens. It's odd that you say it happened on your nexus aswell, which would make me think its not a common bug but instead some app that you personally use which is interfering with facebook and causing the rectangle to form. Look around, close background processes and then see if it happens.
And if worst comes to worst..only click the back button....once.

Hmmm you might have a point there. Since i did restore all my previous apps when i went to stock.
Doesn't seem to fix... i even tried using another FB account. .. anyone know of a easy way to embed video here other than youtube so i can show you guys thanks.

Do you have any old phone laying around which you do reset and try on without any other apps?

I've seen this before too. It simply means the icon is selected. If we had hardware keys, hitting enter would open it. I don't quite know how to remove it though. Does tapping somewhere other than the icon deselect it?

Okay just tried wiping and flashing arhd on my one. Only set up facebook account. (installed through aroma) and problem still exists.random rectangle when pressing back twice from online friends list tab inside fb or fb messenger

If youre rooted and got custom recovery, make a nandroid and then factory reset your phone and try it out. Thatll tell you if the app itself has a glitch, or if its because of your setup of the phone

I just flashed mike1986's sotck 4.2.2, only set up fb app the was pre installed. verison 2.2. Nothing wrong. Updated to version 3.x and then the rectangle again... hmm

I just figured out a fix!!!! haha. But i was just wondering if there was a way you guys could show me if your doing the steps correctly to reproduce the problem :/

As in the friends list in the top right corner? Yup. I use teh fb messenger app to reporduce it. its faster haha.
So I have a shortcut either in my social folder or just an icon on the main homescreen, open app, slecect the top right corner online firends tab, wait to see the green dots, then press back twice .

Nothing. I did it slow, fast, but nothing happens, I return to the home screen. I just flashed a new ROM as well (paranoid) bit it didn't work on ARHD either. So I'm guessing it definitely has something to do with your phones setup. Something that you had on your nexus and have on this phone as well.

on ARHD, i had the google search bar and a 2x2 weather widget and a 2x1 clock widget.
On Paranoid i have the google search bar and the standard google clock.

[Q] Failing Equalizer

Hi all,
I am quite happy with my phone but there is one thing (that I also encounterd on my Samsung device) my equalizer stops working?
At the moment I use ZPlayer and this works fine but I can not change any sound settings. My Equalizer is gone?
In the Walkman application I get this error when I select Soundsettings:

Are you running any rom or have you rooted your device?
or you are using stock ?

Try backing up all of your data and try a SEUS repair if you didn't

If your computer is good you can always load up a virtual disk and load up Windows 7.Then use the Windows 7 virtual machine to restore with SEUS.There are many tutorials on how to install Windows 7 on a virtual disk.

Don't you have any friend that has a windows 7 machine?So you can do it there?It should approximatelly take around 30 minutes or less(based on computer speed - internet speed).
Or else you can also try Factory Reset(I don't remember where to find it) through the settings of your phone(Don't forget to backup!)

I'd say remove data from settings>apps and reboot.. I had this one too but a simple reboot solved it forever

Smart think nanostray .I didn't think of that.
If it still doesn't work try to check ClearAudio+ then uncheck it again..Go and clear the data-cache on "settings / apps" and reboot your phone.
(It worked for a friend )

I didn't have to do that in my case, but that's another good option. I gotta say... too bad Dutch translations isn't right (nietv i.o niet) haha

Hahaha .It depends on the phone.Mine never had problem with the equalizer but some people had.Some people had different solution than others .

After a reflash with SEUS. My little sister has a laptop with windows 7. The problem still occurs but I blaim Zplayer.. So I'll create a logcat to check if i can solve this myself..

Yeah I also think Zplayer has nothing to do with the Music effects...I think turning the audio tunneling off throughout build.prop would help(Not sure but maybe :/ - Requires root)

Unable to click on pop up notifications in hangout and messaging.

Has anyone had issues clicking on pop up notifications from hangouts and messaging? I can only swipe them away. I can no longer click on them and go into the message. Pop up notification for phone calls work fine. I can dismiss or answer them. I want to say I noticed it after flashing Franco r19 but can't say for sure it's related.

I think this is one of the inherent notification defects on 5.0. I encountered the same issue - please restart the device and see if this remedies the issue.

I have to ask, sure you are not just tapping on them once? In LP Stock, you tap once and get the "tap again to open" message lower down the screen.
What ROM you are running in addition to the kernel would be helpful, and I second the recommendation to reboot and retry, you could of course also go to a backup before you installed the new kernel, all things being equal, but the kernel shouldn't have anything to do with this.

That did it! wow, what is rule #1 of troubleshooting? REBOOT. I guess I tend to forget it when it comes to phones since we rarely ever have to restart.

Glad it worked! Hopefully 5.1 fixes this issue.

99% of problems can be solved by hitting the restart button. This has been universally true since the SNES console.

I get this problem every now and then after my phone has been on for a few weeks without a reboot. Reboot works every time.

Is there actually a "Restart" option for native Lollipop? I know you were being figurative, but having only a "Power off" option when running seems awfully spare compared to what I even had on an old Galaxy S III (plus, bootup on a Nexus 6 is rather long, but that's another point, I guess.)

Sure, though I was wondering if this was somehow hidden in stock Lollipop, because I want to run vanilla for a bit longer - keeping variables down to help with diagnosing any early problems I might find with this new phone.

in vanilla, no. but if you have root on vanilla, it can be done. if you use a terminal emulator, you can use the lines reboot, reboot recovery, reboot bootloader.

Thanks - do you find that Reboot is akin to a "fast reboot" or is startup more or less the same as going from initial powerup, perhaps?

its a hard reboot, not a soft reboot. it shuts down completely first, then the google logo, then it boots up. as apposed to a soft reboot, that starts after the google logo.

Man, that is weird. I've not had this issue at all on mine. Is it happening on all notifications or just messaging related ones? And if so, is it just Hangouts and Messages, or are other messaging clients (Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, etc) behaving the same way?

Are you having the issue because mine was resolved by a reboot. It was only happening on hangouts messages and texts. I don't have Facebook or what's app

[Q] Google Now : Voice Commands : WiFi

Hello!
I'm a happy new Nexus 6 owner.
Since 5.1, it's possible to use voice commands to turn on/off WiFi, bluetooth, and flashlight.
I have a problem. Bluetooth and flashlight work here perfectly with voice commands, but I NEVER can turn on/off WiFi. Any idea?

just tried. i said "turn on my wifi", and it did, sorry. try clearing all your data for google now and try again?

It doesn't work. G Now just searches the web for "turn on my WiFi".
I cleared the cache. And I'm running a fresh new install. (After upgrading to 5.1, I had a severe battery drain. So I wiped all my data to re-install everything again.)

You refer to Google Launcher, right? I have 1.1.1.1706998.

well, the play store version is 1.1.0.116, so it sounds like your version isnt a release version. so it very well could be broken.

As I told you before, I made a factory reset. I have a fresh new installation.
I believe it's better to reset the phone AGAIN... Maybe this could explain my BATTERY DRAIN. There's something wrong here.

I will reset. I've just checked the Play Store, Portugal store, and the version number is the same as yours. I shouldn't have a different number.
Considering that I have a huge battery drain, I accept now that there's something very wrong here.

Hey, good news, @simms22!
Everything is fine now. And I did NOT reset the phone.
Based on YOUR tip, I opened Google App in Settings > Apps and selected "Manage Space". Then: "Clear Google Search Data" + "Clear Launcher Data" + "Clear All Data", just to be sure.
After this, my home screen was reset. I organized it all again. And then... BANG! I turn on/off WiFi too!
Even better: until now, that battery drain is gone! I can't believe!
The app version is still different. Very strange. But all is working fine. That's waht matters.

Mirror screen on Android Auto - Disucssion thread

Hey, i'm opening this thread since i've noticed that some other threads are used to talk about this.
As i have already mentioned it should be possible to show the screen content via http using my app (https://github.com/nerone-github/WebViewAuto) (or any other webview app to be exact).
Basically we need something which can pass user input (tap) from Car -> Phone, and the Image from Phone -> Car.
Now at least i can confirm that the second - Image Phone -> Car is not a big deal. It even works without root using this wonderful application

I know that this is basically "against" the Android Auto concept of providing a distraction-free UI. But ultimately this will probably never be an easy thing to do, and probably just used by experienced and hopefully responsible drivers.

If i understood well, you succeed to have mirroring screen of the phone to the car with the above app? At least to see the screen, without tapping.
Can you write some details to try? What should write to the address bar of WebViewauto, and what settings to screen stream over http app?
You did this without using internet data?
If this work, it is very useful although not full mirroring.

Just use the IP and port you see in the screen stream app. If you're not connected to Wifi you can probably use 127.0.0.1 or localhost

All I really want is some way to use Android Auto without having to use Google Play Music -- it's horrendous.

i lost volume control when using your unleashedAudioplayer. something youtube auto experiencing too, but yta manage to solve it

It sounds good but can you describe it in more detail that everyone can understand it? The links to the regarding apps would be very helpful and maybe some screenshots. Thanks in advance.

I try this solution from OP in my car and it's working. I see my lockscreen and, if I unlock my phone, the writing "Android auto" with black background.
The problem is that AA overlays other apps and I don't have the ability to use Android normally. I try to disable the option that AA display over other apps but then AA always starts with configuration wizard.
Unfortunately, so far it's not a solution.

Use the integrated mini launcher to launch apps (lower left button).
I'll try getting back and menu button to work, but that will require root also.
Didn't test on phone with software buttons.

Works very fine. Audio, video and touch. It's really awesome!
Do you think it's possible to add a button to hide left bar (and android nav bar)?
If I turn off the screen of the phone, the mirroring is disconnected. Is there a way to leave it on?
