[Q] Did CM installer brick my phone? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Soft brick after CM installer
Hi guys, I could really need some help here. I tried the Cyanogenmod installer and everything went fine, except my phone was stuck in
bootscreen for too long time (never booted).
In CWM recovery I did a factory reset/wipe, reboot, but to no avail; still stucked on CM bootscreen.
I then tried to flash CM11 by recovery sideloader. This goes to 100% and recovery says "Installing update", but nothing happens.
Is it supposed to install and finally reboot by itself, or should I do something?
I tried to installed zip from SD-card, but got "E:Can't mount /sdcard". I guess that means that I can't push the .zip over ADB to /sdcard
either.
What else can I try?

Edit: I wiped /data and then I could suddenly push the .zip to /data/media and the, finally flash the .zip from sdcard!
Why on earth the installer didn't wipe everything from the beginning, I don't get...
Did I miss anything obvious about the wiping thing?

A factory reset should do the trick normally. But if you ever get a message that you can't mount something you have to wipe that partition in recovery. I haven't used CWM in a long time. I prefer twrp as a recovery these days

Thanks, I'll remember that, should it ever happen again. What's the benefit for TWRP over CWM?

in Htc One i always had this problem.
I'm pretty sure you will never be able to mount SD
but its not a big problem since you can still sidepush the zip file.
and to be honest there is not much difference between TWRP and CWM . its a matter of preference.
On my Htc one i always used TWRP but on other android devices for some reason i sticked with CWM.

Unfortunately, I was not able to sideload the image, the transfer went well, the phone said "Installing update" but nothing happened!

Post 2 implies op was able to flash the zip successfully after wiping /data.

Correct, and I could probably also have sideloaded after wiping /data...

Stuck on N1 logo but not bricked

I searched before I posted this question since I know it is a common question but I can't seem to figure out the problem with my phone.
I recently just bought it and I decided to root it. I following the instructions from wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Nexus_One_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod When I went through the instructions, everything went through smoothly. No errors, all were complete installs but my Nexus One is stuck at the boot screen now. I waited for over 20 minutes but it wouldn't budge at all. I've done the procedure after "fastboot oem unlock" and "Flash CyanogenMod" already but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The flash that I'm currently using is the update-cm-5.0.5.1-N1-signed and gapps-passion-ERE36B-2-signed. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with it or what do you suggest any steps I should take to fixing it?
I don't think my phone is bricked since I'm able to go into Bootloader mode and Recovery.
Try a wipe and if not reflash and re wipe.
Mine is doing this too and i did exactly what OP did
Even after a wipe. Im reflashing right now
5.0.5.2 has just been released. Apparently fixes this bug. get it while it's hot.
Its still taking forever to boot. Im still watching it. What exactly do i do to do a "Wipe"?
Damn I don't have a microSD reader. =\
Is there any way to put the ROM on the microSD via Nexus One?
I'm having the same problem. This is on the recently released ATT compatible N1. I am able to go into Amon_Ra's 1.7 recovery and successfully install the V5.0.5.2 and gapps-passion-EPE54B-signed.zip but still have the same problem. Stuck on the X with the lock. I keep putting the original Rom back and doing it again after a full wipe and still have the same problem.
you dont have your usb cable? I was thinking about that too. Cause i know the nexus has its own memory internally but it doesn't show up under my computer. maybe you can push files through command prompt or something. or on linux
If you have the Amon_Ra's recovery you can do a wipe once you're in recovery.
If you made a backup of the original rom you can just put that back and boot into the original rom. once there, you can mount the usb and download it to the sdcard
you can also download the cyanogen updater from the android market and download the rom to your sdcard to install.
What did the trick for me was fresh install of Cyanogen 5.0.5 which i got to boot succesfully AND THEN use cyanogen updater to get to 5.0.5.2

2 ways, either plug it in via usb and mount it from your notification bar on the phone, or download the rom via the web browser on your phone, then use Astro file browser(free) to move it from downloads to the root folder of your SD card, then flash from recovery.

How long does it usually take to restore? I have about 18 lines of dots. Should it be taking this long?
5.0.5 first then update
Install the base 5.0.5 first then the google add on if you want the apps. After you boot like that update to the latest CM. I saw this some other place and this worked for me, don't wanna take anyone's credit.
Thanks everyone. 5.0.5.2 worked flawlessly once I was able to put it on my microSD.
If you guys don't have a MicroSD Reader, and have the AmonRA recovery, just boot to the recovery and chose I think the 3rd option (Toggle MS USB). You'll be able to see the phone as a mass storage device.

Cyanogen Mod stuck on reboot loop

Hi
I helped my colleague to get Root via Alpharevx. No problem what so ever got clockwork recovery installed also without problems. Su installed via Clockwork rec. and finally rom Manager installed everything went smooth.
Then he did a backed up his data and installed Cyanogen latest mod RC1. Now it is stucked in a boot loop where the animations restarts over and over again. I restared in recovery and wiped dalvik and cache and data all the jazz. I reaplayed the update still the same.
I'm fresh out of ideas. What to do?

Get 4EXT Recovery from HERE. Flash it and then flash CM7.
thank you i found the thread but i donno how to flash it? do i put it on /SD and flash it via recovery "install update.zip" or do i use fast boot. i'm sorry i'm a noob i kinda need step by step instructions
i don't know which one to download. There are several files to download from there
Download the first v1.1.1 file.
Place it on your SD Card.
Boot into Recovery.
Choose 'Install Zip from SD Card' then 'Choose zip from SD Card'
Choose the 4EXT Recovery file.
After flashing that go into the 'Wipe/format' menu
First Factory Reset, then wipe cache, then wipe dalvik cache
Then go into the install zip from SD Card and install CM7
It should work.
I would also suggest flashing cm through clockwork...
It is a personal opinion...but I had errors when using Rom manager

Thank you very much for your help Cardiiiii! It worked like a charm!
I was a bit worried since i could no longer boot in any of the roms (original or CM) but i knew it can be fixed as long as i could boot in clockwork recovery.
Thank you NikonElite i'll keep that in mind. It appears Incredible S is harder to play around with that my Nexus S. Never had any problems flashing any roms.

On CM 7.0.3, if you pull down the notification bar, there was a toolbar that you could configure for toggling your data connection on/off. I believe you configure it under Settings-> CM settings
@hussainmushahid, if your data wont work, ur ****ed, same as me, you need a custom version of cyanogenmod, ask attn1 for it, he has it
the reason is the ril got changed after it got changed data wont work for vodafone nl users, and most likely your carrier as well

[Q] No OS installed

I had installed CM10 on my optimus 2x but I had a problem with the rom so I tried to flash another rom.
By mistake I wiped data, davlik-cache and everything else. So I don't have a backup. When I try to install another rom through TWRP is says that it failed and afterwards it says No OS installed, Are you sure you want to reboot?
Please I only want to return to the original stock rom and upgrade from that to ICS. I found the guide on how to update to ICS so all I'm asking for is how to get out of this No OS installed trouble.
I appreciate alll effort.

Hi Mate dont panic it´s easy to fix have u try any Nflash procedure yet ?
Try Stefans V28G via nflash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986097
Direct link: http://d-h.st/PNj
Installation NVFlash version (under Windows): (internal SD will be wiped, /data partiton can be saved and restored with 2nd generation builds)
download the ROM, unpack it with WinRar, 7Zip or similar to any folder you want
take battery out of phone, press VOL + AND VOL - simulataneously, and while doing this plug the phone via USB to your PC
screen of phone remains black, this is normal, but you should hear a sound that you plugged the device. Probably you have to install APX drivers at this point if you are asked. They are included in the latest NVFlash builds. Tutorial on driver installation: http://www.modaco.com/topic/335416-n...-links-active/
assuming that you already installed APX drivers: run the "flash_windows.bat" file in the folder where you extracted the ROM
follow the instructions
That's already it Usually no complications to be feared. Enjoy!

You can connect phone to pc and copy a cm10, don't reboot phone, you must mount mass USB storage. Copy and flash: )

Will try it out
Thanks Domfis and Creison, I will try it out and see what happens. I hope it works :fingers-crossed: out cause I really do not wish to change my phone now that official ICS is out. If I manage to do this I will wait till summer to change my phone. Currently using my old nokia 3310

i suppose you're on the old bootloader? then just use AIO Toolkit ->> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737
Use Option 4, then you'll get the new bootloader and CWM installed. Afterwards just flash a ICS Rom or CM10(ICS BL) via CWM!

Since data is lost anyway, try running AIO toolkit to reflash the bootloader which also fixes recovery and partitions.

[Q] Stuck at CM recovery after accepting newest official software update

Hi, device is rooted, and clockworkmod recovery 6.0.4.5 installed.
ROM is JB, the official update from LG. Today device reported there is an update to the installed firmware.
I rebooted in CM recovery, took a nandroid backup, booted, and accepted to download the official update to my official JB rom. After downloading I was asked to reboot (in order to install), and the phone reboots to the CM recovery.
From there I don't know what to do. I have tried rebooting, but again find myself to the CM recovery. I have tried "reboot to bootloader" and get stuck at the LG boot screen logo with the message "Now Ready!" in tiny white letters on the upper left corner.
I would try "install zip" but I don't know where the downloaded update is (if it even is in an acceptable zip format)
Phone isn't bricked, I guess I can always restore from the recently taken backup, but I really would like to know if there is a way to install this update.
Thank you

Sadly, this seems to be the case.. bummer.
Thanks everyone
Not even my nandroid backup can help me get to where I was before? So much for nandroid being the ultimate backup, a "snapshot image" of the device...
So, what if, I use CM recovery to install a custom rom, and then restore from my nandroid backup (being the official JB) ?
Flash with kdz flasher original ROM then flash cwm you can put back your backup. I think the problem starts that the update pushes something in the boot section that is expecting an other (read original) recovery . when you installed cwm it boots up cwm so that's why an nandroid backup doesn't work I think ( to be honest I'm not 100% sure this is correct)

Have you yet followed the advice and installed the KDZ?
Trying to avoid that, as it seems too much work for a phone that was working fine, and stuck to recovery due to some silly boot flag or something.
Saw it as a chance to try cyanogenmod. But it seems having CM recovery and the cyanogenmod rom on the sd card won't cut it! Talk about failure..

I don't think you will have a choice. If you created the nandroid backup on your SD card then you aren't going to lose it, so just flash the KDZ, root again and install your backup, or accept the LG update and rebuild all your software again.
Yes, one thing is for sure. I had to install the KDZ to be able to proceed with anything..
It's just funny having a working CWM recovery and a cyanogen rom on the device and after flashing it, still not having a device that boots. A "recovery"/flash tool, should be able to "recover" from such a situation..

You can't blame the recovery. It is clearly stated many, many times that you should never attempt an official OTA update with a non-standard (rooted or recovery installed) device. On other devices you could even hard-brick AFAIK, so consider yourself lucky that you only had to reflash a KDZ and start again.
For restoring stock rom use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2682146 I can confirm it works and it is (very) easy.
Yes that's what I used and I also confirm it works and is very easy.

Clockworkmod Recovery Galaxy s3 problems

Well guys this is my first time on the forums. My phone is rendered near useless right now. A few days ago, i rooted my phone via towelroot. as a friend reccomended, i installed ROM manager and flashed clockworkmod recovery. I backed up my stock, perfect ROM with CWM and decided to try installing cyanogenmod 10.3.1......... it wouldn't install. I even tried other apps like ROM installer. Then i came across the handy dandy Cyanogenmod Installer. This seemed great, i didn't have to do anything except click a few buttons on my PC. as i was ready to enjoy a new custom ROM, the following message popped up, "Root access possibly lost. Fix?". I was given the options of "No" and "Yes - Fix root (/system/xbin/su)". i chose the second one, and waited for my device to boot. when it did, it was stock Touchwiz Android version 4.4.2, just like i had initially. what's more is my imei and bandwidth version were both "unknown" and i my sim card was undetected. I decided that technology had gotten the better of my and i tried to flash my old stock ROM back on. i found the file in recovery mode but it kept saying "no files found" whenever i clicked on it. I tried the cyanogenmod installer again, this time choosing "No", resulting in exactly the same scenario. At this point, I would be fine having the stock ROM since i have had such bad luck with the "developer's world" of Android.......... PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Another note:
ROM manager now is telling me that CWM is not installed, yet it is present in recovery mode......

it´s the best if you also do a format of internal sd in recovery before changing the recovery, because sometimes there are some folders left of it in interrnal memory and you cant delete it, do that if this will be the case. but i think Philz and CWM use same folder, so if you flash philz it will be okay if im correct otherwise you can always format internal sd afterwards
Edit: dont use rom manager for recovery actions, use recovery itself, much more reliable
