[Q] Trojan Detection - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I decided to check on the progress of rooting the AT&T S5, and was pleasantly surprised to see it had been. My question and concern on the safety of the exploit, is due to ESET on my laptop flagging, quarantining, and blocking the page. Has anyone else run into this issue? I've attached a screen shot showing the threat detection. When I attempted to download it, that's when it was blocked and the tab in Firefox showed Problem Loading Page with an exclamation point inside a yellow triangle.

It's not a virus, it's fine. The s5 forums are full of people who have rooted, me included. You don't even need your computer. Go to towelroot website on your phone and download the apk and install. That's it. It's like magic.

Thanks!! Will definitely look into it. Just out of curiosity, will uninstalling the app remove root? Just wondering because I've been waiting for the day an app can root the phone, without the usb connecting and all that.

Once you root and reboot you can uninstall the app , root will remain. It is being detected as Trojan(general classification) because it is an exploit. This is nothing new it's rare to get root without somekind of exploit, that how it works.

Thanks for the information. After thinking about it I figured it's likely because it has to run from an outside source, so it's not what I initially thought it was. Thanks again though!!

[Q]How can I use my phone as a modem(tether)?

OK, so I'm new to Android and I've been reading non-stop for the last week, but it really is A LOT to take in. I'm completely satisfied with the stock eclair version it came with, although I haven't experienced the other roms so maybe I'm really missing out. The only thing I'd really like to be able to do is use my phone to get internet on my laptop. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the easiest way is to first root your phone, then add a tether app from the market right? Any suggestions on the best app to do this?
Also, is there a way to get flash enabled on the stock rom? I saw it was on the froyo rom, is that the only way to get it, by installing a new rom?
One more about rooting. Is it possible to just download the update.zip file, email it to myself, download it to my phone and move it into the root directory on my phone? or is there a way to root using just your phone besides z4root bc Ive tried that and it isn't working. I lost the usb cable that came with the phone and the new one i bought from a gas station only charges it, won't put the phone into usb mode for some reason.
You could always try one of the Froyo roms for tethering.
You can download app one click lag fix from market. It will root your phone. I would not use anything else from the app though

Thanks, the root feature has been removed from the app though. I guess I'm just going to buy a new cord so I can connect to my comp and do it that way. Still wondering about the flash though.

Anyone sucessfully tether?

I have been unable to start a wireless tether. When I open barnacle the default verizon hotspot app pops up and gets in the way. Anyone else experiencing similar behavior or find a way around it?
I attempted both the stable and beta versions of wireless tether to no avail (the AP starts, but with errors).

Even with the Droid3 being 3G and the Bionic 4G??? The different radios/modems don't make a difference?

I came across that walkthrough, but didn't want to be the first to try. Thank you for taking the gamble and spreading the news (this should probably get its own post).

I followed that tutorial and when I activate Mobile Hotspot in the Mobile Hotspot app this notification pops up:
"Checking Provisioning with the Verizon Server."
then the "On Device Provisioning" screen pops up in the background, followed by a notification saying:
"Retrieving terms and conditions.
Please Wait"
finally, it throws the error
"Your order could not be processed.
If you would like to subscribe to the service, call:..."
I rooted the device using Pete's oneclick and ran his scripts in DROID_3_remove_bloat_5_6_890.zip keeping the launcher, messaging apps, DLNA, social features, motoprint, and swype. Does anyone have any insight as to why I am getting this message or what I should try to get this to work?
Edit: I should note that I am trying this on 4G. I could see how this is only possible on 3G, as the radio may use different means of authentication for 4G. If this were to be the case, there might be a second set of parameters that can be modified.
I would love to use the droid 3 wireless solution but i have got to the step of plugging the phone into the computer after having all drivers and the radiocom program installed and it the phone info does not show up
please confirm anyone who has got this to work that the phone is to be in PC Mode.
Again I have all the drivers installed have .net installed and the radiocom program and the phone usb in pc mode
I am running windows vista home 32bit machine
has anyone ran into a similar problem and corrected it that you might share
thanks

No wi-fi after root

Rooted the phone with Doomlord's toolkit, but when i turn on wi-fi, the apps say "no connection" or "server error". Tried Play store, Gmail, Drive, G+, Chrome, Steam... But.. i think the weather app is working - eye in sky. I assume this is some kind of permissions problem, but couldn't find any settings for it. Using Generic ES 423.
Hi,
I have a question to Doomlord (or someone who knows that) too: (i'm restricted to post into the Development section)
I've heard about problems with the easyrootkit v15 that, when you mount the system as R/W, the phone reboots.
Can someone confirm that? I want to update my phone, but i want to be sure that root works afterwards without a problem.
Does one of the following apps need to mount the system as R/W?:
Titanium Backup
LBE Privacy Guard
or Greenify?
thank you
is the wifi actually connected to the network?
as for the r/w reboots. read the posts as there are fixes for it
It is connected, everything was working fine before the root. Doomlord said "not related to root", then what? I have't done anything else :/
I doubt it is root related, just coincidence, many have rooted and don't have that issue
when its connected to wifi to into settings - about phone - status and scroll to see if the ip address is valid, tried rebooting the router just incase?
I did a repair with pc companion, it was working. Restored the back up i made before that, and it stopped working. No idea what's wrong with it, but i guess i'll start from scratch. Will do a clean repair again without back up only for contacts and images, and will edit this post with the result.
Edit: So yes, apparently something in the backup was causing it, couldn't find out what.
Oh well... Just tried again with Generic BE 423, again after rooting, no connection. Haven't done anything else. ANYTHING. Can anyone help? Or i'm just gonna stay without root

No idea what would be causing it, but try flashing one of the other FTFs? Say NL or HK? See if that makes any difference.
I found what's causing it... The proxy that adblock wants me to enter in the wi-fi settings - localhost, port 2020. Still no idea why it's connected to root, it was working fine without it.
adblock wants a proxy? not heard of that before,. but if you are using a proxy in the wifi settings that will more than likely stop it working

Yes in the website it says localhost and 2020 port. It's not working without it, although it says Ads are blocked on all connections.
As you are rooted, I can recommend AdAway for ad blocking purposes. It does the job without having to configure proxies etc.
Google removed it and all other ad blockers from the Play Store, but you can still get it for free from F-Droid.

Thanks, it worked! I didn't even know it existed.

Another quick ?

I , with much help, am rooted, gps files copied and permissions fixed, froze at&t software updates through titanium pro, no knox counter, or problems. Gps works fine, changing towers, plug or unplug charger no problem. Only thing noticed is the custom on the boot screen. Is there a way to correct it? Wanted to let others know, its simple to do, and the juice is worth the squeeze. Thanks to all u that helped....I will be back Im sure.
Install wanam xposed, in the setting security hacks you can set the device to official and that will hide the padlock.

NFL Mobile no longer works while the Cast Screen is active.

Up until the most recent update, I have been able to share my screen to my Chromecast and then open NFL Mobile.
Now, it displays a message on my TV stating to disconnect my device in order to use it.
Is there a way to prevent this check.
Thought would be to root, and allow the screen cast service to work without the phone reporting this is being done.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Am I the only one that this affects?
Or do some people in this community use a custom Rom that avoids this issue. Any response would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah this sucks, hopefully someone will figure out a work around.

Also having this issue and I am pretty pissed off about it. This was the only way for me to watch my beloved Denver Broncos out of network without paying over $100/month for tv I dont need or want.

It's affecting everyone - /r/Chromecast/comments/2isxbo/nfl_mobile_no_longer_casts_video/ (I can't post links?)
The change appears to have gone into affect at least yesterday.
It went into affect the moment I updated the NFL Mobile app on 10/6/2014. I am thinking, something could be done. If ruining a custom ROM, couldn't there be a way to ensure what ever flagged is engaged when the Cast Screen sevice is used to always show as off, so nfl mobile does not know it is being used.
This also affects the Samsung Allshare media cast device. (Mirror mode on my Note 3).

Makes sense. I did try the factory reset but the app says a new update is required...so I'm guessing rolling it back to the pre-10/6 version wouldn't work.
I believe a similar workaround was developed into custom ROMs for hiding HDMI connections but after searching online I can't find anything that references a similar cloak for the screen cast service.
Now, I am not opposed to rooting my phone and using some hdmi adapter. Anyone confirm if there is a ROM that allows the NFL Mobile to stream to the TV in any means necessary.

Supposedly the play store app no longer has rooted phone detection, but that update was about a year ago - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45088481&postcount=244

I'm far from an expert on this matter, but it seems to me it has something to do with the permissions enabled by the NFL Mobile app. With screen cast/mirroring, you connect these devices wirelessly and you may need to cloak this connection in order to throw off the NFL app? In any event, I'm having the same issue and was hoping someone could help.
A work around includes an app called screen stream mirror. NowI don't have the link to it, but it requires root. It can be used with a chrome cast to allow you to watch video which you normally wouldn't be able to. Cost is $5.00.
What's this teensie I've read about? Hacking your chrome cast, anyone heard about it?
Thank You. I will be making some modifications
Re:
NFL mobile app now checks to see if the phone has been rooted and/or has the developer options turned on. In either case it will not allow streaming to a bigger screen. Back in August 2014 they banned rooted phones altogether from watching preseason games, then because of an outcry, they have allowed them back in partially to watch from the phone but not project onto a big screen. They also have put a DRM protection in so you cannot set up a mock location with a gps spoofer app.
No audio with the "Screen stream mirror" app.

Email the developer. They will work with you.
If your audio does not work, I would assume 1 of 2 things.
1. Your media volume on your phone is turned all the way down.
2. Running a custom ROM that is interfering with how the application works.
Does the audio fall to transmit with every application you open on your phone?
Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, audio plays on the phone but does not cast with the video, have not tried other apps.

I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 and had the same problem. The recommendation that worked for me was rebooting the Chromecast - just unplug then reconnect the power to the Chromecast unit, wait for it to cycle back up and try again.
