Hello,
I want to become root to replace the hosts file and install some root needed apps.
What is the better way to root my phone ? (GT-i8190)
I tried to put a file in /tmp or Towelroots (tried modstrings leet [0-3] [0-1] 0 4 0) and it didn't work.
I can use Windows or Linux programs.
Can you help me ?
Thanks for replying.
You could try and use VROOT( google it, i can't post links yet ).
It will root your phone without losing your data, but all the apps/texts will be written in chinese or whatever asian language it is.
Afterwards, you can download SuperSu from the play store and it will overwrite the vroot one.
Hope this helps !
What will be unreadable ?
Is this official (may be an english version) ? www [dot] mgyun [dot] com /en/getvroot

Yes, that's the one I used. If I remeber right, the app names, settings names, etc will be written in an asian language.
But if you overwrite the vroot on the phone with SuperSu from PlayStore, all the names, all the text will be in english again.
Hey you have ever heard about vroot try with it no data will be lost

First flash custom recovery via Odin and then reboot to recovery and flash zip file with root.

Hi all,
I have read a lot about this, and I've tried to do it on my own but I've encountered some problems. I hope the experts here can help me out.
Here is what I've tried so far:
1) Rooted the device (success)
2) Installed ES File Explorer via SD card
3) I found there is no vending.apk in the system/apps folder on my tablet. So I copied (I tried several versions I have downloaded or stripped from ROMS) and tried to install there.
Problem: When I click to install the vending.apk, it simply tells me that it wasn't installed. Permissions are set to rw.
Next, I tried using ADB to install the vending.apk. When I use ADB, I get either INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS or (after I delete the vending.apk from the tablet and try again) I get INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK
At this point I'm at a loss. Am I trying to use the wrong vending.apk version or something?
-----
I have also found this post on a Chinese forum regarding the tab. I'm posting the Chinese and Google translate version (in case you can read the original).
BVis1N2k4N0VLTkE%3D
3. 下载谷歌服务包http://u.115.com/file/f5d6693df# system.rar

Spend a day of N posts and finally get, no need to brush ROM, follow these steps:
1. Get Root permission: Reference Links: http://bbs.gfan.com/android-586002-1-1.html, including the latest version of SuperOneClick program can be downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers. com / showthread.php? t = 803682 which also includes Samsung drivers
2 Download File Manager RE: http://bbs.gfan.com/attachment.p ... BVis1N2k4N0VLTkE% 3D
3 Download the Google service pack http://u.115.com/file/f5d6693df #% 20system.rar
4 install the service pack, will be one of the ETC directory of the Host file to the P1010's System / etc directory
5 At this point you can see Google account already in the system account to add, I once found Rom server, the system was actually found time and time differences between the actual result
6. If it is found in the electronic market will automatically download error and exit, mostly because of access problems, please refer to Citie address: http://bbs.xda.cn/thread-5266029-1-1.html Please note that one file name and we installed the service pack file names are different, we will be one of the com.android.vending.apk into the actual service pack can be installed vending.apk.
Now finally a clean, you can freely download the electronic market things!

The link to dowload the "Google service pack" is expired. What is this file? How do I get it, and what do I do with it?
Finally got the Market and other Google apps installed. Just needed the right version I guess.
Market opens. I can see apps listed and I can search. As soon as I try to view an app or click on My Apps, it force closes every time.
What would cause this?
Dear all,
I am desperately looking for a STK.apk from the ICS SDK.
I am currently unable to install the sdk since I have no access to a computer right now.
Can someone please post a link to the latest stk.apk?
Sent from my I9000 using XDA App
Edit:
I have found another STK.apk than the one from post 3. The latter one has been extracted from OneCosmic's ICS Beta 1. It works fine for me as well. Apparently my Dual SIM adapter does not need all functions of STK, so it may not work for sending provider codes.
Anyone who is able to use the attached STK with provider codes, please provide feedback for others.

mmeeetooo i need it plzzzzz
Success
To all it may concern:
I downloaded the STP.apk (SIM ToolKit) from the ICS Apps Dump , copied the apk to "system/app" and changed the permissions to Owner: RW, Group: R, Others: R
To do so, use any Root Explorer app.
As I am not yet allowed to paste links, please PM me if you want me to sent it to you.
Works like a charm now...
Steps:
1. Download 'stk.apk' and copy it somewhere on your phone
2. Move it to '/system/app' with a root enabled file manager
3. Change the permissions as described above
4. Reboot
F.y.i.: Root does not work on my ES File Explorer.
I use 'File Manager HD', cause it's easy to use and it is free.
Dont forget to enable root in the settings.
Permissions can be changed by long press on the file.

Well I am on Onecosmics great RC1 with "updated" kernel, which is also 4.0.3 and it works perfect. It works even better than on GB.
I am using a dual SIM adapter which needs STK to switch between SIMs. On GB Stock, the process crashed from time to time and I had to restart the phone in order to be able to switch SIMs. Now, I doesn't crash anymore.
- Did you copy the file with a root-enabled explorer and assign the correct permissions?
- Do you have any radio related issues on your ICS installation? (e.g. incoming/outgoing calls working, no mobile data issues etc.)
I did all the things above, can't instal it....
Need other version of stk.apk?
Greetz
I don't think that you need another version, since this one is from the ICS System App Dump and it works perfect with 4.03
Do you receive any FCs on the Phone process? Can you copy stk.apk to system/app ? Did you check permissions (i.e. rw-r--r--)? Is the stk.apk still in the correct folder after reboot? Did you reboot?
A detailed description of what happens would be an asset if you want help.
I did everything as described here. Seems that app somehow works, but something isn't like it should be. My confirmation through stk doesnt reach back to server I guess.
STK depends on RIL!

I'm not surprised... this is the same behavior I saw on CyanogenMod 7.
SIM Toolkit is heavily dependent on the Radio Interface Layer (RIL) implementation. As I understand it, the RIL is the hardware/software component which interacts with the phone's modem/baseband in order to call, SMS, 3G, etc. SIM Toolkit and USSD codes are all dependent on separate functions in the hardware, and the software layer must also implement hooks for them to work properly. The original poster's SIM switching gadget might work because the functions it relies on are implemented, while the ones we need are not.
Also, I've noticed that certain operations work on Onecosmic's ICS which don't work on Teamhacksung's, such as *522#, my bank's mobile interface. STK has only ever worked for me on Samsung stock ROMs.
More info about Android's RIL software and how it interacts with the hardware: http://www.netmite.com/android/mydroid/development/pdk/docs/telephony.html
Thanks aorth, for this detailed insight.
So I must consider myself as a 'lucky guy'.
Could the issue be fixed by using or porting a Nexus S modem?
Sent from my I9000 using XDA App
Damn, it won't wok properly then?!
Thx, and I'll keep hoping
I did everything in the steps. It's installed. I can't seem to find it in the app drawer. Nothing in my app drawer is hidden. So, since i can't find it. I can't run it.
Solutions?
Hi, with 'installed' , do you mean 'copied to \system\app' with correct permissions and still there after reboot ?

You must be root and you need a file manager with root access.
c.f. instructions on first page, post #3.
If you are not used to do this kind of stuff, be cautious and follow the instructions step by step. PM me, if you are unsure.
Do it at your own risk. I am not responsible for whatever could be the consequences of your doing.
I've just downloaded and followed the instructions for installation at post #3 and it worked fine! I'm using Onecosmic's ICS RC3.1 in my SGS.
Thanks...

What exactly does not work? Do you have working root access?
If you are not able to copy the files to the specified location, then either your root is not working or you have not enabled it correctly.
In the app I mentioned, you must do the following:
- start 'file manager'
- press left button and select 'settings' from the context menu
- tick 'Root Explorer' and 'Mount system writeable' checkboxes
- allow the app root access whenever asked...

Sorry for the generic title buts its difficult to write exactly what i need to achieve.
I have a sim free UK HTC one.
I need to get rSAP working with the phone for my Audi car kit to work. I also have an added issue that my phonebook contacts don't sync at all.. (apart from that its a great bluetooth connection...lol)..
I've located the rSAP program but apparently when its downloaded from the play site. it doesn't work correctly. In order to get it working correctly, you have to manually load the files into the recovery section of a rooted HTC one. im using this program www.android-rsap.com
I've got a fully rroted HTC one. and I have downloaded the files from the above site. I've just no idea how to get the files onto the phone.. any pointers would be very useful. thanks...

You may optionally use these zip files in recovery for installation/deinstallation of the rSAP system files instead of the rSAP installer app:
when you have a write protected system partition (see above) and you don't want to install the kernel module or a different kernel
when you don't need other root functionality you may omit the installation of the Superuser app

Yes, i have the files you pointed to.. but (sorry this may be one of those noob moments) I don't know how to get those files onto the phone or even if they need to go onto the phone..
So if possible, i'm looking for instructions from this point onwards.. I have all the files, I'm rooted.. what do I do now?
Thanks again.

Hi thanks for the replies. Actually i have now found out how to do it and yes, i do feel a fool.. It was so easy.
For anyone else having the same issue..
simply download the files you need to load to your phone, Store them where you can find them.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode (your phone must be unlocked and rooted for this)
Simply pick install files and direct to the stored location of the files you downloaded.
Reboot the phone.

Sorry to post here, i'm newbie on this forum so can't submit on XZ dev forum... (hope is the right place).
Installed eXistenZ ultra 3.0.0 after full wipe then 3.1.5 on OTA.
Very Great ROM but I have a wifi issue (that seems common to all ROM based on indian 201 pre-rooted i tried) :
my MAC address changed from B4:XX:XX:XX:XX:CA (own original one) to 18:00:2D:38:EE:C9 (forced by ROM ?)
This forced MAC is the same on each IN201 based ROM i tried and seems to be the same for many XSP using these ROMs.
Is there a way to fix that (that could be a major security issue in some places) ? Tried to delete/recreate some symlinks to mac_addrX but no effects and i'm not enought skilled to go much further...
Tried to search on the forum but was not lucky...
Any help or advice is welcome... thx in advance

Hi Rems38,
Did you find a solution to this problem?
I am having the exact same problem with an Android v4.3 ROM (a pre-rooted ROM but as far as i know not the eXistenZ ultra 3.0.0) i used to upgrade my Xperia SP from android v4.12 to Android v4.3.
The mac address you mentioned in your post is the exact same mac address that i have now i.e.
18:00:2D:38:EE:C9
However if i use the service menu on the xperia sp -
i.e. open the phone app and dial
*#*#7378423#*#*
then go to > Service Info >WLAN MAC address what i see there is not the above MAC address (18:00:2D:38:EE:C9), which it appears now from your post is something to do with the ROM, and is also not what is in /data/etc/wlan_macaddr0 and the two should really be the same.
However what i see by going to > Service Info >WLAN MAC address is my actual hardware mac address (i know this because the first thing i did when i got my xperia sp 6 months ago was to record everything about it before making any changes to it) which is not the same as 18:00:2D:38:EE:C9.
I have tried using other methods to change this mac address or get the phone to acknowledge the actual hardware mac address to no avail.
Any comment or help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers mate.

Hi !
Yes after lot of tries I found something that worked for me (on my own pre-rooted Orange FR 4.3 201 but should work for all 201)
to correct this I did :
1/ have root
2/ mount rw /system (I did that with ES Explorer 3 + check root explorer + check rw for all)
3/ copy /data/etc/wlan_macaddr* to /system/etc/firmware/wlan/.
4/ go to /system/etc/firmware/wlan/
5/ if exists delete or rename macaddr*
6/ rename wlan_macaddr* to macaddr*
7/ reboot and check in service info menu : for me the 2 columns are now back to the same !
I guess on SEUS standard installation of 4.3 an install script do the correct symlink but on our 'custom' ROMs that use a 'generic' META_INF file, the updater-script does not...
I know that direct copy of these 4 files is not a really clean method but I firstly tried to do the job with a symlink(ln-s) + permission change (chmod) but that failed...(I had found somewhere on xda that somebody did that for another xperia ).
Hope this should help you...
Cheers.

Hi,
With the MAC change, you may have 2 problems :
- if you connect on a network that use mac filtering : with stock ROM you have your own MAC address so you can connect. when you try custom ROM, you will get the new 18:.....:C9 address so you will have to disable or update filtering, if you can (I could at home, but obvioulsy not at work...).
- If you want to connect 2 xperia SP with custom ROM on the same network your wifi router may really not like to see 2 times the same MAC... (I had this case at work and the router became crazy - my IT manager had to reboot it....

Yes, for me almost the same (but that may vary on different ROMs) :
- one folder (named 'prima' -> this one contains some config files for the wifi driver - better to not modify I guess)
- only one file named macaddr0 ( in fact not a file but something like a broken symlink to /data/etc/wlan_macaddr0).
The procedure only delete this symlink and recreate a text file that contains the right MAC address...
I don't know if it is useful to copy the 4 macaddr files or if only 0 is enough...

Hi,
how do I install the (7.2) A version of meizu as a G version?
among us there are "plenty of" guys who have not yet known how to do that, I will explain how it should be so that you have fun with your meizu phone as an G version.
firstly you have to root your meizu with A version from the settings, you know how to do it, right?
at the bottom of the root click on the ok -enter your pw- and your phone will be restart.
after you've root it your meizu phone you must install the fx file explorer and start it up (#system root => click on 3dut => click on mount read-write = now you can delete things) and than delete all the chinese apk's stuff etc from your phone.
very important: do not delete the AppCenter folder but the apk itself!!
you can remove any other chinese folders + apk's, no problem at all.
G version:
install the AppCenterInt (take it from my uploaded zip folder incl. other things.. almost everythings you needs in it) and run it, you gonna see there the google apps click on it and than install the google apps etc.

For other language than english install this apk: https://morelocale-2.en.uptodown.com/android
The rest you know how to do it.. right?
good luck
