[Q] Apps safe to freeze? - Moto X Q&A

I've been looking now for the past hour for a list of apps on our 4.4.2 Moto X that are safe to freeze. Me not finding the list tells me that it's probably right under my nose in a sticky or something but for the life of me I am not seeing it. I realize I am probably blind, but if somebody can link me to the thread (if there is one), I would greatly appreciate it.

[Q] Can you have separate ringtone and notifcation volumes?

My old Droid 4 (4.1.2) could do this, but is not available on my Moto X (or maybe post-4.1 Android?). Seems to be an issue across multiple phones in other forums as well. Anyone have a good workaround/app for this?

MOTO X Transparent caller screen

Can anyone post how to make it transparent the incoming caller screen as showed in the left side of screenshot below.mine is XT1052 stock rom.View attachment 2875405
Hi!
Its a MOD....so someone needs to create it. Not sure if there's one for the X....but here's how.....if it applies to the X, the thread is a bit old.

You can use the full screen incoming call screen option from Gravitybox, it looks same like the picture on the left I think.

You NEVER flash anything made for other devices. Good way to destroy your phone.

Course I'm Indian.
Rooting has nothing to do with overheat, we have a great dev like Paul, thus a great kernel like Faux. In fact if there's a problem with stock kernel then rooting should fix it.
Besides, this is one of the coldest phone I've used, absolutely no overheat, I actually use Performance governor, and sometimes I even play some games while the phone's being charged, still the heat is absolutely moderate. When I'm with standard Interactive governor the phone stays cold as hell. That's why I always find it surprising when people say X is overheating!
So then I'll root my device as you said...can you give me the root process and roms kernels you use.......

Unlocking your bootloader and rooting an unlocked phone are in this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603358
Most stay with stock rom, but there are stock based roms as well as aosp in the development sections. Kernels too. Just be sure whatever you think of flashing are for your device. ?
Yeah that guide is more than enough, however I unlocked the bootloader and rooted mine by just seeing this video thoroughly, as I had no idea about ADB before rooting that guide was not making any sense to me, I mean those commands

Moto display/voice ports

Y'all think they'll be available, seeing as how this seems to be based on the droid turbo with most of the same hardware?
I had a moto x (2013) and loved those features, just wasn't crazy about the battery life.
A nexus 6 with working active display/moto voice would be amazing.
It looks like Google has incorporated similar features into Android itself.
There's something new called Ambient Display, which is similar to Moto Display.
You can say "OK Google" with the screen off, which is functionally similar to Moto Voice — albeit without the custom launch phrases.
Moto Voice records your voice and then pipes that recording into Google Now. Since this new feature launches Google Now directly, it's probably a lot faster than Moto Voice.
Is there anything setting need to do before OK Google works with screen off?

To be honest I rather have Moto Display than Ambient Display, Google's version just has soo many flaws, and sometimes its not consistent and not only that, theres not much features
If porting the Moto Display and other goodies from the X will be possible I'll be keeping a close eye out
I exported most of the files required for it, but am stuck at the Motorola-specific signature process... And life is getting in the way as well.
Anyone see that China is getting the moto x pro? It's basically the nexus 6 without the nexus branding. Any bets on whether it'll come with the moto tweaks and that a ROM can be made for the nexus 6?
Does anyone know if the moto voice has been ported for the Nexus 6? I like that the moto voice will read your messages to you.

Not yet. I think the best bet would be perhaps getting a dump from the Moto X Pro, which is the Chinese variation of the Nexus 6. China doesn't have Google services, so the Nexus branding has been dropped and all Google apps, but Moto looks to have added their apps to it. Some pics here, which you can see some of the icons on the home screen (unsure if it will have all of the Moto apps though).

Theres a Moto X Pro system dump in this thread.
The Moto X Pro bootanimation.zip uses video files and videodesc.txt instead of .png images and desc.txt like Nexus 6, but it works by just copying /system/bin/bootanimation file from Moto X Pro to Nexus 6, changing permissions and rebooting. Can the same be said for the Moto Apps? Just copy all the apks from /system/priv-app on Moto X Pro to same place on Nexus 6, as well as the /system/lib and /system/bin files?
If anyone knows how to do this it would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime I'll be searching for threads that point me in the right direction and trying the method I mentioned to see what happens.

I'm the one who uploaded the system dump as an alternative to baidu , because it was too slow .I need to get an update-script to make this ROM.zip flashing process possible ,though I don't know how to do one , I won't be able to make this thing possible. If any of you wants to help me , shoot me with a PM .

Verizon Motorola X 2014 XT1096 Root?

If your one of the many that got in on the Cyber Monday deal for the Moto X 2nd Generation then you may be like me and want to root this phone. Does anyone know if this is possible yet? I can't find anything on it yet so figured I'd start a thread on it.
There are actually a few threads on this already (general & q/a). No luck on root yet...

My $0.02... If root is really important to you, return it.
I just need the wireless tether that's the main reason and custom roms of course.
We need to start a bounty thread for rooting the VZW version.

Correct. I wouldn't count on ever getting root for this phone. If root is that important to you, you should probably go a different route.

How confident are you on this? I didn't think there were any phones that root was not possible on. I really don't want to keep the iPhone 6 but I don't have much longer before my return period is up. The only good thing is I have tethering with it

Well I mean I can't say that it will never happen, but these newer phones are a lot more secure and locked down than android phones were a couple years ago. That, and the fact that most users of this phone purchased it because of the amazing motorola features that it comes with, so many users don't have the need or want for custom ROMs.

Tons of phones. My S5 was out for a solid year until geohot came out and saved the day with towel root. This phone could easily never gain root.
Yeah. I think too many ppl are being too negative about root. It might not happen today but I think it will eventually. If Devs can root any of the Samsung Knox filled crap phones than we should have more faith.
Btw, there is a bounty thread started so donate if u can, give a dev more reason to help us.
While I'm missing having a rooted phone, the x doesn't need it IMHO. That's not saying I would root this bad boy immediately though. I'm just happy right now with 5.0. I have other devices rooted to hold me over anyways.
No no not negative. Just being frank with someone who thought every android phone automatically gets root.
I'm optimistic. I pledged money as well.
CF Autoroot Possibly?

Active notifications?

I know this is a long shot but I'm coming from a Droid Turbo and I'm really missing the active notifications. Since I haven't been able to find anything on my own I was wondering if anyone has tried getting Moto Actions working on the N6?

That's what I kind of figured would be the case. I knew the Moto Actions were optimized for certain devices only so I guess its time to search the play store for a reasonable replacement. Adaptive display isn't doing it for me

There's also an app called active display but what I miss most from my 2013 moto x is spotlight player
