I have chmod'd to 400 on /data/data/com.android.providers.downloads/cache to keep GPlay Services from updating, but this is also where Xposed modules are downloaded to.
My questions are
1. Is there a better way to stop GPlay Services from updating? Permanently?
More importantly
2. Can Xposed Installer be modified(I guess this is a feature request) so the modules are downloaded to different directory- such as /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/cache?
I'm using Xposed Installer 2_4_1 on ics 4.0.3
GPlay Services does all I need it to, and the newer versions are excessively large(24MB). I keep it as system app, but that's no longer an option for me

I don't think it's possible to stop play services from updating...
Maybe if you unlink the app from the market with titanium backup?

I made text file, called it com.google.android.gms-2.apk, stuck it in /data/app
Then ran this:
busybox touch /data/app/com.google.android.gms-2.apk;
busybox chattr +i /data/app/com.google.android.gms-2.apk;
GPlay Services will update and download to the cache folder I mentioned earlier as file called .bin, but it won't actually install. From what I tested, this folder needs owner write permissions and google can push it. For Xposed to download permissions here must be 'at least' 331. And so with those permissions, the gms app will just sit there wasting space.
So I'm asking, for convenience sake, can the download directory be moved-
:banghead:
edit- another question, is what I'm asking possible, um, does the package manager install all downloaded apps from that folder?

You can't move the downloads directory without recompiling the Xposed Installer (and modifying it).
This sounds like an XY problem – you want to do something (stop an app from updating) and figure out a way to do it (a really bad way – you're possibly affecting many apps that rely on Android's download manager), so you ask how to make your own way work better...
Here's my advice: don't make the system downloader's cache directory read only. Seriously, just don't. It's a bad idea, and I can guarantee you'll break things in the future when you'll have forgotten all about it, and spend countless hours blaming other apps and developers or wasting your time.
You want to stop Google Play Services from updating? Decompile it and recompile it (without any changes), that should change its signature and ought to be enough. Alternatively, write an Xposed module to do it (or request one in the correct thread).
(Or just live with it, or clean up your system partition, or manually convert it to a data app every once in a while, etc. Just don't make the system's downloader's directory read only.)
Hello everyone, if my tablet I install play store services happens that the same becomes slow, no way to fix it?
thanks
i mean, what exactly moved into your brain to start writing about a tablet ( you don t even say the model) inside the Oneplus one THEMES AND APPS section? i'm pretty curious
obviously I was wrong section.
I apologize and ask if there is a section where I can post the problem that occurs with me play store services?

This tablet has no support I can see.. It's a bit old 2012, slower processor and limited 512mb of ram.. There's no way it can cope properly with Google's services.. If you use kingo root, remove some bloat, install disable services app and tune your system, you can eek out a bit more usability..
It still is running 4.0?
is 4.0.4

Do you want to modify it in hopes of improved performance?
no better than the performance because then I know not much but simply changes there are several apps that require the google play services. By installing the google play services these apps work, but the system slows down for example to open the virtual keyboard and write it takes some time and if the google play store there is this problem does not occur

You have low ram, 512mb is barely enough to run current apps, assuming there are no background apps.. You'll need to root to bring play services under control..
Go to settings, about device, build number (tap it 7 times) this unlocks developer options..
Go back to settings, developer options and enable android debugging..
On your computer install adb drivers
Download kingo root and install
Connect to your computer, run kingo root to root your device..
Once rooted, go to the play store and install SuperSu
Grant root to SuperSu and follow prompts to fully install it in your system.. (Don't try the recovery option)
Once installed, remove kingo...
Reply back when this is done.. Good luck..
hello
I installed a store looks different from play store but both play store and on that I installed there are several root kingo I could say that right?
thanks

Kingo will likely need your computer to root.. Be careful with unofficial playstore's and random apk downloads due to malware.. The steps I mentioned gained root access on the off brand tablet I got for my daughter. It came "ad supported" so I rooted to remove the bloat, and installed the play store..
So use the previous post to gain root and then we'll move to the next step..
https://www.kingoapp.com (for windows) use the computer to root the tablet..
Hello!
Hope I am writing this thread in correct section.
I have Xperia SP with android 4.4.4, compilation number pa_huashan-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84P eng.nexusprime.20140928.205215 test-keys.
I have microG apps installed. They needs Xposed framework to work.
Now I want to login into Snapchat. I can't, because I have Xposed installed. If I uninstall all Xposed, Snapchat says that I need Google Play Services. I don't want to have Google Play Services, because I couldn't uninstall it last time (Last time I flashed gapps via recovery).
Does somebody have any idea?

Install Google Play Services, login to SnapChat, backup with Titanium Backup, uninstall Google Play Services, then see what happens. Idk if it'll tell you that after.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Oh, yeah, I didn't mention what I done.
When I uninstalled all microG apps, cleared cache via recovery, rebooted and installed Google Play Services, the Services started to crashing.
Is there any rescue or just flash new rom, flash gapps, login to snapchat, backup via Titanium backup and again flash new rom, install microG apps and then restore Snapchat?

When I had Google Play Services installed on this rom, always after reboot I had to go to "Disable service" app, disable and re-enable location service and hope it would work. Often it wouldn't work, so I had to reboot again and do same thing. Of course, I could disable all location services, but I need GPS. And, when I enabled GPS, did what I wanted, I too had to disable and re-enable location service. For example, when I was doing something with GPS on evening, then I forgot to disable services or it hasn't worked, I always woke up with battery drained for about 30-40%. 90%-40% = 50%. Battery has 3 years, so it will be dead untill noon.
To close.
I did what Curiousn00b said. (To uninstall Google Play Services I had to reinstall rom, but it worked).
Thanks!
I'm using a Galaxy S8, Android 7.0, Magisk 16.6. When I try to play Pokemon go, it gives me the "OS not supported" message. The 16.3 fix didn't work back when it came out and I haven't been able to play since then. I did check the app in Magisk Hide and I activated the setting to hide Magisk Manager with a random package name, but it still doesn't work. Is there anything else I should do?
The only thing you can do that will work is to completely uninstall magisk. That should let you play pokemon go.
Pokemon also looks for a bunch of known root apps on your device, not only Magisk. And MagiskHide can't hide other apps.

There are a whole bunch... Busybox installers, system cleaners, etc. There's an old list available somewhere in the Magisk PoGo thread (search), but that list might be outdated. Easiest thing is to uninstall some root apps and see if it works better.
An easier alternative, if you have the means to do it, is to use a clean spare phone/tablet for Pokemon Go, and keep your phone how you need/want it for everything else. Bluetooth data sharing is enough bandwidth to make PoGo work.
PoGo 0.115.3 not working, no login

Sure.
Make sure you have Pokemon on the Hide list.
Hide the Magisk Manager (in the Manager settings)
Delete the MagiskManager folder on your internal storage (next time you download/install a module through the Manager the folder will be recreated).
Edit: There will likely be an update to Magisk that will hide the MagiskManager folder. But for now this is a workaround.

Hmmm, tried all this, but still PoGo will not comply, even when I sandbox it in the work profile. (island app) The latter sounds a bit strange to me, as it should limit access to anything. (Magisk Manager gets installed, but is hidden)
To be honest, PoGo is just a test for when they start messing with Ingress as well. When it's getting to much trouble to have the app behave, it's out. They are just games, nothing to compromise my device for.
Also rename or delete every file or folder on your internal storage / sdcard that contains "magisk"

Any file? Not only the directory, but one that can be found somewhere on the device/external sdcard? (Like Magisk-v16.7.zip which you need to install it...)
Strange it should see it when sandboxed.
You can try, someone else said so, I did also do it and had no problem anymore so far.
But you should be right, that when its sandboxed it should not see it anyways...

Before using the hide magisk manager option, make sure magisk manager is NOT a system app. This will successfully repack magisk manager.
Then delete magisk fodler from internal storage and hide PoGO.

May be other ROMs come with integrated Magisk. That was the case in mine. Convert it to user app first.
Then try magisk hide again and look for the package name in app info (It should be something random). Then continue with other steps as it is and it should work fine.
Let us know how it goes
Hi togehter,
if you use the Fake GPS Route, then uninstall via TWRP Magisk and then works PoGo (new version) perfekt, that works with my Samsung S5
I have a problem with my Samsung S7 edge, if I uninstall Magisk, then I have the problem, that the S7 go to a bootloop <--- Have anyone a idea?
Samsung S7 Edge
6.0.1
SecurePatch 01.12.2016
TWRP Recovery
If I install Magisk again, then boot the Samsung S7 without a bootloop, but then dont work PoGo
Xamel
Uninstall in the magisk app not by flashing a zip in recovery
Before I rooted my XZ premium I played pokemon go Just fine, afer Just enabling developer options (still locked bootloader and not rooted) it did not work Annymore, switching off developer options fixed pokemon go again.
Now with properly rooted Phone with magisk busybox, and whole bunch of rooted apps I am stuck as wel.... bonkers!!! !!
Could someone find a solution?

as the title says i have been having problems getting the youtube app to stop updating , i followed the instructions in the vanced post , i did the method 2 of the magisk installation (where you download the latest version from the page and install the module) placed the install via magisk module and the detach from playstore module on the download folder , all goes normal i even deleted all youtube data , and unistalled the app with titanium backup , and disabled the auto update tick box several times and it still ends up updating youtube and removing the vanced version :/

For the app should be enough.
that's what i always do and it still ends up updating , even with the detach module, maybe i'll have to disable it all together :l
That's werid stopping auto update from the play store should stop all that

Well, it doesn't. I'm experiencing the same.
i am using it on pie. is really frustrating the app update by itself.
SWITCH OFF AUTO UPDATE IN PLAYSTORE ARE NOT WORKING AT ALL.
detach in TB is NOT WORKING also.
but version on nougat doesn't have this issue, maybe google did something fishy on PIE?
I guess you should ask for help in the dedicated threads for Youtube Vanced instead of creating a new thread for this.

Same in Oreo. Never had problem with Nougat.
I installed it just like the OP, it would detach but play store would attach youtube back on the update list by itself every night. When the phone is restarted the detach module in magisk will detach it again, but the next morning, play store would put it back on the list.

After thatd download the files from the 3# post:

I've been trying to figure out this issue for a while.
Basically issue for me is on Google Pixel XL and now Pixel 3 XL and my friends Moto x4, all on both Android Oreo and Pie... Using Magisk repo install and uninstalling stock YouTube, and then adding enable_detach empty file in cache folder in root along with turning off "Enable auto update" in Google play store for YouTube . Usually this works for a few weeks but every now and then it ignores it and updates itself and turns on auto update without user explicitly allowing it. (Says YouTube was just updated).
I can easily fix it by uninstalling updates again but my friend doesn't know how to do this easily. I also tried to remove YouTube forcefully with titanium backup from system app and detaching months ago but that caused a lot more problems. Currently it gives option to attach to market forced despite it still showing up in market saying update (and auto update off for it)
I wanted to understand the plz and settings.sh options if using specifically Magisk method 1 (Magisk repo). Or are those only if using the other methods under magisk and/or root only option (no Magisk)?
Use the Sudohide xposed module.
This Module will prevent apps from detecting other installed apps on your device. Settings are done on per app basis.
Steps to hide VancedYT (A) from Play Store (B):
1. Select app A in the main list a new list view will be launched
2. Tick the checkbox next to app B in the newly opened list view
3. Press apply to save and back to exist
4. Restart luncher or reboot the phone.
Slow down.
Detach using titanium backup WORKS
For me I could only press "attach to playstore"
So I did. After I got button detach.
It worked and removed it
