Hey,
Like mentioned in the title i want to know which system apps of CM can be removed on the Kindle Fire HD without creating any Problems.
Something like Dialer, mobile Network connection and so on...
So that i just got the important system apps on my Device.
Thanks for your help.
I've removed the Google Plus app without any issue. Haven't tried with any others though.

I got my new kindle fire HD 7" and tried to install Google Music on it and my old Kindle Fire now that I have both. I got the latest APK's dl.dropbox.com/u/10727706/APKs.zip and followed these instructions jordanhotmann.com/2012/01/install-google-apps-on-your-kindle-fire.html
It worked perfectly on my original Kindle Fire. I was able to get everything to install on my Fire HD, but Gmail and Google Book open and immediately close like they are being shut down by the Amazon OS overlay (or whatever you want to call it that they throw on top of android OS)
I can open music, but w/o the other two programs running it doesn't sync. Anyone have any work arounds or know what is causing it to not work on the new Fire HD?
Thanks,
Carson

It is a permissions issue and can only be resolved by having root access. Sorry, but you have to root to install those items correctly.

Are you saying that is a change in the new HD kindle? Because as you can see, I did it today in my older kindle.

The old Kindle and the new Kindle HD have different OS versions and have different security settings.
So... yes, that is what I am saying.
Hey forum.
Before I begin, I'd just like to say this forum is incredible Been a massive help so far! So big thanks.
Anyway, I recently rooted my Kindle Fire HD 7". Incredible, and one of the bets decisions Ive made in regards to my tech.
However, after a few days, it seems to "de-root" itself. My Go Launcher HD disappears (reset to Home), the special offers come back (the ads on the lock screen - i change that as soon as im rooted), and the Superuser disappears. I still have Google Play Store etc, and can reinstall Superuser. The problem is, it still seems not to be rooted any longer.
I use ES3 file explorer, with the root manager, and after this rubbish happens, when I try to access the root manager i get "Test failed. Your phone is not compatible" or something like that.
So I simply reroot, and it's all back to normal (albeit with some annoyances such as having to reinstall Go Launcher).
I've not blocked OTA updates, so is it that?
Thanks for any help!
Ben.
I believe Amazon has updated the OS a few times over the last week or so. This will "de-root" the device each time.

wallpaper issue update 8.4.3
Since the first update to 8.4.1, i have been problems with wallpapers of my kindle fire HD 8.9''. I re-rooted the kindle many times, and actually i tried different launchers as nova or go launcher, however the wallpaper is impossible to change. ¿Some ideas to fix it?

On page 8 I posted a fix for the wallpaper, but I have hit and miss problems with bricking, suggest having a factory cable or twrp handy in case something happens. Feel free to try it.

There are some way to do this easier??? or what files we need to modify...
I see that you use CM10.1 why did you change it? I would like to change but there are a few issues with this so If i have a stable system (however the wallpaper doesnt work) why i should change?
I changed because I wanted to try cm10.1 then said to myself this is so much better, also I'm staying with cm10.1 because I don't like where amazon is going with the os, they just released another update that makes my fix not work because it now has an encrypted framework-res.apk, and I don't know if I can unobfuscate it, still waiting on someone to send me the new framework-res so I can analyze it. And i heard a rumor that they are going to patch the root exploit soon so i prefer stay in on something else that I don't have to constantly maintain and have compatibility problems with. Oh and despite then fact that cm is slightly unstable, i would call it stable enough to use overall. I having had the buggy mic issue yet nor have I had the 3d render issue when I played a 3d game, only problem I had was Google music related and I am not sure if other people have had it. I think HDMI may be slightly buggy but I don't know I have no minihdmi to HDMI cables. But having a full android is is worth it in my opinion, though if you use amazon prime I guess that would be reason enough to not change changes over because there's no such thing outside of kindle os from what I understand. Ironically most of my reading I do on a kindle isn't books but manga... So I have not really touched the bookstore.

Either flash CM10 or Hashcode's ROM that stops OTA updates.
While "playing" around with my rooted Kindle Fire HD, I managed to accidentally deleted the Launcher.apk under system apps. The Kindle would then run most apps but would require navigating the market and searching the said app to open it since there was no launcher. However, the problem started after I rebooted to see if my Apex launcher would automatically come into play after being installed, since launcher was deleted. The Kindle turns on but is stuck at the animated kindlefire startup screen. When removed from battery, it gives off the usual low battery warning, which might be a sign it isn't completely bricked?
ABD is enabled, but the computer no longer picks up the device under the devices folder. It does however give the standard connection sound when a device is connected. Idk.
I am NOT able to order the factory cable at the moment, and i'm looking for suggestions to enable without the factory cable.
I can upload my launcher apk if that helps since I have the kindle fire hd 7

Go over to the kindle fire hd 7" general forum and look for the kindle fire first aide thread. They might be able to help you there. (If you haven't damaged your bootloader)

The subject line says it all: under the Nova and Go launchers, I can launch all my apps (Amazon and otherwise, including Amazon app store, Audible, etc.), but cannot open Kindle. I touch the Kindle icon, and nothing happens.
Any ideas?
I'm running a rooted Kindle Fire HD 2013 (generation 3).
Thanks!
Bryan
What I did with regards to this, was to set up a behaviour to launch an app (the home app) by double tapping the screen. Pressing the home button returns to apex launcher.
I could never get the Kindle app to run straight from another launcher, unless it was already in memory.

If you can find a way to create a shortcut to launch a command (such as ROM Toolbox or something) you can use the command "am start -a com.amazon.kindle.otter.internal.action.SHOW_BOOKS". It will show all the books in your library.

I tried running that as root from a terminal, and got an "Activity not started; unable to resolve Intent" error.
That's not too bad a workaround...I think I'll try that for now.
The other thing I tried (that didn't work) was creating a shortcut to the Launcher->Books activity. I'll just have to settle for switching between Nova Launcher and "Home" for the time being...
My bad. It's supposed to be "am start -a com.amazon.kindle.otter.action.internal.SHOW_BOOKS"

That did the trick! I was able to create a shortcut to this as a Rom Toolbox command, and it works like a champ.
Thanks!
Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and didn't find what I was looking for...
I am currently running Kinology 3.2 and would like to switch to CM11, but I use several Kindle apps (such as this)
Will these apps still work if I'm running CM11?
Thanks
I don't know or not, most apps work, but I will say this I don't know about apps from Amazon's store, last time I transferred a free app from one kindle to another it threw a fit and said I didn't own it which I laughed at since it was free. If its in the Google market you can always get it that was assuming its free, or backup its apk and make a backup in twrp of kinology, then flash cm and install the app and see what happens.

Yes apps from the amazon appstore will work. I have cm11 and installed the appstore and downloaded apps I had on there.

I think he's asking if apps specific to Kindle work. There's several apps that have "Kindle Edition" versions. hamiltonfighter, I do not think they will work. But you can try, it won't hurt anything.
