radio combination question - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, so I just flashed a new firmware onto my m7 to get an updated radio, just for the fun of it. I might be crazy, but now I'm getting no more than 2-3 bars in my bedroom, and I recall getting full bars before hand. I'm on bell, running insertcoin 8.1.3 with elemental x kernel. I updated from the 4.19.401.1 to the 6.06.401.1 something firmware, which also included a new hboot 1.57. I had 1.44 before. I also have s-off. also, I changed my mid to pn0714000 from pn0120000 before the flash. Do you think this is a bad choice of radio/firmware for my phone/rom? Everything else I've tested seems okay. Any other info needed, just say so.

s-off update to latest firmware, need some pointers

I have searched to forums under HTC one and cant find the info I am looking for. I want to upgrade my phone to latest ATT firmware that is available(or latest recommended file to use). How do I go about the process. I updated my radio to 4A.17.3250.20 my software version is still 1.26.502.12 Am i supposed to flash the corresponding RUU, if so will this flash a new hboot. I am s-off revone and latest TWRP installed. ATT HTC One Black 64gb. Thanks.
If I take the OTA update from ATT for the latest firmware will this replace my currant hboot and custom recovery, I dont want to loose s-off. I am coming from sprint htc phones and am not sure if the update process for firmware updates is the same, on sprint I could just bootloader flash lates firmware file. Would this be the same process for ATT version htc phones.

If you already are s-off, you will remain s-off after upgrading to latest firmware.

You should be fine as long as your MID/CID weren't changed. Then you would need to change it back to whatever it was originally. Just don't switch to S-On.. you may not be able to get S-Off again

Thanks for the info guys, i am s-off stock ROM that came with the phone when i got it. I did not mess with CID just yet. I did have to revert back to htc stock recovery, update did not start up with TWRP.
problem with update
Okay, I took the OTA from ATT witch was around 225mb, it had a boot loop after install. When phone booted up an error said that update had problem and did not update correctly and I should wait for another update. My software number did change from 1.26.502.12 to .15 My WiFi will not turn one and camera app comes up for a second and vanishes from screen. I tried scanning for new update, says phone updated. How should i proceed now. Thanks for any pointers.

Hey man! what do you think about do the supercid, then flash the right Ruu, and start with a clear phone?
all is good
I could not find an ATT RUU for my phone on XDA but did find one off another forum. Ran the RUU and I am now back to stock. I did not loose my unlocked boot-loader or s-off. This time ATT OTA update came through with no problems.
My phones version radio is 4a.17.3250.20_10.40.1150.04L and software version 1.26.502.15 are these the latest available for att

Latest from AT&T, yes, but any of the international updates will work on your phone. Plenty of AT&T guys are running the the 4.3 leak with no problems.

How would i take one of the intentional updates, do change my CID for the phone to access the update, I want to be able to get the radio/firmware update, and I am not sure if I flash one of the custom roms the firmware/radio is not part of the ROM. Thanks for the info given.

You're s-off, you can install anything. Just flash the latest firmware from the firmware thread, then whatever rom you want. If you wait for AT&T, you won't see 4.3 until 2014.

[Q] Where do I start?

So here's the deal: I bought a HTC ONE back when it was released and I've enjoyed every minute of it, I loved the stock rom - it was smooth and worked like a charm. I have a lot of experience with flashing ROMS, had quite a few HTC phones before this one, but so far haven't tried ANYTHING with the ONE.
I got the update to the latest Android and I noticed there's something about HBOOT 1.44 vs. 1.54 - I checked and I have the 4.2.2 ROM running HBOOT 1.54.
I really want to get into custom roms and start testing a few out; but I have no idea where to start.
Normally I'd pick a guide and work the steps but I'm hesitant now that I've read bits and pieces about this HBOOT thing - I'm not sure what I means, why people are bummed out because they have 1.54 (which I have).
So yeah, I have no idea where to start. Can somebody give me a rundown, some guidelines, what does HBOOT 1.54 mean for me, where do I start?
Thanks,
Michiel.
From what I've read, having HBOOT 1.54 basically means that you can't S-off your device (as this is only available for 1.44). This means that you won't have access to deeper customisation for your phone (flashing different firmware and changing CID). CID determines what region your phone belongs to so this translates to how early you can get official OTA's as some regions get updates earlier than others. Also, if you want to fully transform your phone into a Google Edition HTC One, this is only open to units with a specific CID.
As for firmware, not really clear on what the differences between firmwares are but you can still flash different radios which are a component of firmwares (thus getting some of the benefits of newer firmware anyway).
That being said, you can flash the whole range of custom ROMs and kernels available on these forums provided that you've unlocked your boot loader. Directions for this can be found on the HTC website.
If you want an optimised stock ROM, try ARHD Sense which is basically your stock ROM with many performance improvements (especially when it comes to signal). For more customisation on Sense, you can try ViperOne.
Honestly there are so many excellent ROMs here that you can easily lose days trying every single one. The Google Edition ROMs are excellent too.
Hope this helps!

Thank you both for detailed replies! This helped me ease my mind on the HBOOT-thing. Thanks!
What no one mentioned is that S-off allows you to remove the ****Tampered**** flag from the boot loader.
With S-off you can lock the boot loader. (With S-on it will show Re-Locked)
With S-off you can flash any RUU to return to stock. Without it you can only flash RUU's that match your CID and are newer than your current firmware.
These may not be important to you, but they're good to know before you jump in.

All you have to do is unlock your bootloader via htcdev.com (note, this will wipe your data) and then flash a custom recovery. You can use this tool http://d-h.st/mas to simplify the process.

Oh sweet I think I found something helpful. I just got my HTC one 6 days ago. I'm s-off so no tampered tag. Do I need to change my cid to flash any ruu? Do I need s-on to flash ruu's? I'm with Rogers in Canada. No RUU for me but there are ota's. Can I flash a different ruu and then the Rogers ota to bring be back to stock? I have s off can I leave it off so if the hboot gets updated by a future ota it will be ok? Thanks for any help.

No matter what, you should stay s-off, it does not affect OTA's or RUU's in any way whatsoever. To flash any RUU, you need to be with a cid of 11111111
It's not possible for you to flash an ruu for something else and then flash the rogers ota I don't think

[Q] LTE Signal Strength Bug in Dev and AT&T Roms, not in GPE!??!

I have an HTC One Black Edition from AT&T. It came with hboot 1.44. I was able to successfully achieve S-OFF using the rumrunner method and I've tried a few RUU roms (not sure if that's the right word).
I've noticed the following problems though which are getting on my nerves.
1) The default AT&T rom that came with it would NEVER connect to LTE no matter where I was and it would always be on H+. Also, it seems to be stuck on Android 4.1 and won't ever go up.
2) The Brightstar US ROM connects to LTE but only ever gives me one bar ..again no matter where I am. The phone consistently shows ****ty signal quality (RSRP(dBm):-13 and RSRQ(dB):-112 for example and I'm outside where two other devices are showing 4 bars of LTE). I don't however, notice any drops in speed and speedtests show that it's working fine (so I think it might be a cosmetic bug..?). This is the ROM I WANT to use because it's just Android 4.4 and Sense 5.5 and looks slick..etc etc
3) The Google Play Edition ROM succesfully OTA's to 4.4.2 and always reports good LTE signal when it should both with the bars and the strength being reported. Speedtests report screaming speeds and I dont notice that it's any slower than when I'm using Brightstar. I'm not a big fan of this ROM as it's too barebones and I actually like some of the HTC goodies.
Right now I'm on the Brightstar Rom and this is what my Bootloader looks like; just looking to get some input to see if I've done something wrong or if this really is a bug?

Fixed?!?
so...I changed my CID back to CWS__001 as I was about to try flashing a recently leaked 4.4 AT&T RUU when I accidentally rebooted my phone (still running Brightstar 4.4/Sense 5.5) and for whatever reason, my LTE signal issue has disappeared......I am now getting correctly reported strength, more bars but same speeds....weird.:victory:
Anyone know if having that CID will prevent OTA's?

where is this leaked 4.4 AT&T RUU you speak of ?
I would also like to know if changing the cid will prevent ota's. I have been having this same issue and will try changing cid when I get home.

HTC__001 OTA Problem

So I'm no stranger to running RUU's on my device as the amount of times I have changed from Sense to GPE is ridiculous. However I have been thinking about getting the M8 so went back to stock sense, locked everything back up and put S-On. When I turn the phone on everything is fine as normal, and it starts receiving ota's, however it wont update past 4.3. Does anyone know if there are any issues with the HTC ota's for HTC__001? It also won't go past with super cid, yet when I unlock and S-Off again I can convert it to H3G__001(not what it should be but I am with the 3 network) it updates absolutely fine to sense 6, 4.4.2.
If anyone knows anything that might shed some light it would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

That is very strange, got to be something to do with the HTC Servers, however, are you trying to update with super cid or with HTC__001 ? I ask as I e noticed that super cid isn't in any of the android info txt files for the 401 updates, I've returned to stock a few times, and never had any problems, but I always start from the 401 kitkat ruu which is 4.19.401.9
Thanks for the reply, I've used both Cid's in the past and both have updated to sense 6 no problem. The only reason I go back to such an early RUU is to S-On as after 1.28 if you try and S-On your phone becomes a paperweight.
Possibly a server thing I guess, but thanks again.

Has anyone else in the UK on HTC__001 had this problem recently?

no it doesn't become a brick, unless your using a modified firmware and then you should never s-on, what happens is after HBOOT 1.55 I think it is which will be 3.62.401.XX, if you s-on past that then you get the ***TAMPERED*** flag back.
Ahh ok thanks for that, always good to learn something new.

I Looked at all the posts and none of them helped me. I tried *#*#4636#*#*, I tried flashing new firmware (Radio, baseband). :crying: The 4g worked on stock rom before I flashed cyanogenmod 11, and ever since no rom fixed it even after RUUing to stock.
