Selinux permissive?! - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There has to be a way to get this to work. I've tried every method i could find on the internet (ie Wanam exposed method, root enforce to permissive etc) Do you think 4.4.4 with help solve this issue? or is ATT and samsung sticking to their guns? I really need this feature at the very least. I could care less about kernels and custom ROMs, im running dynamic ket right now and i love it.
Anything from the devs?

Not possible because of locked BL since we need custom kernel to change SeLinux status

Excuse my ignorance.. But what would someone need this for..?

Knox: rooting, custom ROMs and kernels

*** AS I SAID EARLIER I WILL UPDATE THIS OP (Original Post) IN ORDER TO REFLECT ANY INFORMATION THAT COULD BE OF INTEREST ON THE SUBJECT ***
Hi there!
I have bought my device a couple week ago and since I did not know about knox, I just allowed Samsung to install the 4.3 update that was pushed to my device.
I have since decided I want a custom ROM on my phone, and when I started researching, I found out pretty quickly that knox may cause issues.
I don't really care about voiding my warranty, because I have now tested the device and made sure it is works, and I'm usually careful about what I flash.
The thing is, I have read so many things about knox that I don't know what's true and what's not. Unfortunately I don't have all the links to everything I've read, but i'll update this OP with the links later (some posts were worth reading and very interesting)
So, what I've read about once you've got knox:
- You cannot get rid of it (everyone pretty much agree on this)
- There are ways to root without tripping knox to 0x1, so you keep your warranty, but what about unrooting? Or do you just flash a stock rom not rooted? I guess you keep the bootloader as it is?
- even flashing stock 4.3 will trip knox (really? always)
- if you have knox, you cannot flash anything below 4.3, even custom ROMs, or you'll have issues with wifi, etc. (this is what I've read somewhere, what seems to be a fact is that if you try to downgrade the bootloaer to anything smaller then you may break wifi and other features)
- and it gets better: once you've got knox, if you flash a 4.4 ROM (custom, of course, since there is no 4.4 stock for our device yet), there's no going back to anything smaller (not even 4.3)
Some of the above statements are clearly facts at the present time, until knox is cracked, if it is ever, but some of it sounds like BS, or at least i hope it is, because otherwise I'm not about to flash anything :-/
And this is just the beginning, I'll keep updating this post, and I'll try to separate fiction from facts. anyway, feel free to comment on these and give me answers if you know things for a fact (no guesses please).
Now I gotta go, sorry!
Cheers,
fa
Edit:
You will find a lot of threads on knox especially in the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 forums. But I guess most of the info on how knox works is valid for our device as well (I9305).
A lot of people seem to place a lot of hope in one of the greatest Android devs: Chainfire.
Here are a few links with info on knox, for those who like to read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447832
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2597774
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569349
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447832 <== This is actually a thread you want to follow. Very interesting, but there's a lot to read. If a solution comes to get rid of knox, that's probably one of the first places on XDA where they'll talk about it.
It would be great to know if there is hope to see a knox removal tool.
Meanwhile, I see the following different scenarios. Could you share your experience and tell me how it works for you? As answers trickle in, I'll update this post with the answers themselves or links to the posts where the answer is provided:
1) You don't have knox: lucky you, enjoy and DO NOT UPDATE TO 4.3 or flash a 4.3 ROM with knox bootloader, or you will one day regret it!
2) You have knox. So if I got it right, there is no way to change your bootloader, but there are various scenarios:
a) you don't care because you're happy with stock and no root (then keep moving, nothing to see here, I wonder why you are even reading this...)
b) you want to keep your stock ROM and default kernel, but you want to root. I have read many threads where it is said to be possible. WHAT'S THE BEST WAY FOR THIS?
c) you want to keep your stock ROM but you want another kernel: IS THIS POSSIBLE, and if so, WHAT KERNEL WORKS/DOESN'T WORK?
d) you want to get rid of the whole Samsung ROM, so you want to flash a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) and a custom ROM/Kernel. So what works, and what does knox prevent you to do in that case?
Cheers,
Fa

This is an idea, fabecoool. There would be nothing wrong if someone is responsible for making a guide/tutorial/ to our terminals in version 4.3 Stock with all this questions. There are many people who are lost right now and this would be helpful.
Many people do not know that really brings the version 4.3 and this will help them not to get into trouble.
I installed miui rom yesterday that has android 4.1 and it actually work very well
I was running cyanogenmod 11 and flash it successfully

Flashing stock wont trip knox. Once ur on official 4.4 with new bootloader u wont be able to downgrade no matter where u come from. Knox or no knox. Official 4.4 will have a new bootloader which prevents u from downgrading. Sounds like apple doesnt it. Lol

Thanks hayabusa08,
Do you mean that you won't be able to downgrade to a stock ROM smaller than 4.4, or to a ROM (included custom ROMs) smaller than 4.4.
Anyway, it does sound like Apple indeed.

Well yes, you're lucky. Especially if you care about custom roms, if you do, don't flash official stock 4.3. Even if you like the Samsung UI (touchwiz), I would recommand you find a 4.3 stock without Knox. Just look for it in the forum.

I rooted my phone on 4.1.2, and flashed CM11 through CWM. Does this mean I have kitkat bootloader and can't downgrade to 4.3 roms?
Greetings!
There is a lot of paranoia theme Knox, from my point of view the only problem is the warranty for ODIN and flash an earlier version, I do not see another problem. However, those who want to return to a previous version do through recovery, I've done it many times and have not had any problems (have a look at my signature) those ZIP'S I've modified to share. Try!

[Q] galaxy s3 alliance ROM, PLEASE I need help

hey guys, and gals...I really need your help. so after holding off for over a year and a half i finally decided to root my gs3 and unfortunately I unknowingly accepted the 4.3 OTA update and well, you can probably guess the rest...so here it is. i used safestrap to get around the locked down bootloader and i installed the wicked_sensations ROM and had so many issues i decided that maybe this whole rooting thing was a lost cause...then i installed the alliance ROM and it worked much better....the issue i am having is that i cannot seem to get the wifi to work or the mobile hotspot either...i flashed the ROM and the ML1 modules and well, i just cannot seem to find a solution to my problem. I am relatively new to this android rooting process and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

[Q] Custom ROMs for i537 4.4.x

I've been digging around for a while without finding anything conclusive - am I correct in my assumption that there are no custom ROMs that will work on the i537 with the 4.4.x kernel?

Only TouchWiz-based ROMs will work on the i537 because the bootloader is locked. Do some research on SafeStrap.

Okay, I found out that safestrap is a program that lets you load a ROM side by side with your current one. Now what?

Search and read a lot more about what SafeStrap is, how it works, and how to flash ROMs. If you mess something up you could end up permanently bricking your phone. All the questions you have asked and are inevitably going to ask have already been answered, you just need to do a little searching and you'll be able to find everything you need.

Yeah, I got that much going. I just can't seem to locate any ROMs for the S4 Active on 4.4.2, they're all for the regular S4. Let me clarify that this is the i537 Active.

That is correct. You need to read a bit more about how SafeStrap works on the i537, but basically you can use the regular AT&T S4 ROMs on the i537, you just have to flash the appropriate modules afterward. It's all explained in the SafeStrap thread and a couple of threads in the general section.

Yes, TWRP will remain in-tact. I've dirty flashed and fresh-clean flashed this rom multiple times running some various tests for myself and haven't once run into an issue. This is an outstanding update to the phone and a solid rom to start with as a base for your tweaking and modding.

Software Used to Flash LG G4?
Hi All,
Coming directly from years of Samsung and I'm really digging this LG G4! I'd love to root it so I can adjust DPI/resolution as well as get rid of/freeze a bunch of the bloat. It looks like there are plenty of ROMs that will work for me which is fantastic! However, I have no clue where to begin flashing the bootstack and ROM. I was planning on trying the process described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/development/rom-g4-h811-10n-stock-rooted-rom-t3188858 but I am not sure what application/software to use in order to do this flashing. Can someone please point in the right direction as to the process of flashing the bootstrap and ROM? Many thanks in advance!
Kind regards,

A long-range wife will solve many life problems, so make sure you always marry one with sufficient range.
On a more serious note, here's the WiFi Calling thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/help/wifi-calling-errors-10n-update-t3191362
I hope we can figure out why Xposed breaks it and fix it.

If WiFi Calling doesn't work on a totally stock, unmodified phone, you either need a new SIM card, a certificate update sent to your SIM card, or update your E911 address. Contact T-Mobile Support to resolve these.

Tha'ts not the case. I'm running the "Unbloated stock rooted ROM" that this thread refers to. Wifi calling hasn't worked since. I see other posts in the original thread with the same problems. Unfortunately, due to my account being new, I can't post there...
Apparently, one person put the factory ROM back on the phone, did a factory reset, THEN re-applied the "unbloated stock ROM" and it they claim that fixed their issue. I'll give this a try and see what happens.

Why there are no ROMs for Desire 628?

I've already accepted the fact, that I bought a wrong phone and i won't be able to install custom roms like lineage os or cyanogenmod, etc. But I want to know why? Here on xda nobody even knows about desire 628, and I have to write in 626's forum.
Same reason there are no roms for the 626. Not a popular phone and no developer interest. Also most if not all 626's sold in the USA are locked down variants with rooting a mixed bag of results. My VZW 626 is rooted but that is the extent of any mods that can be done with it, No roms for it.
