I bought a unbranded XPERIA SP two months ago and I am still stuck on Android 4.1.2 and the phone has the build number 12.0.A.1.211
Using the OTA and desktop update I keep on getting that my phone is up to date.
I looked up the customization number with *#*#7378423#*#* > 'Service info' > 'Software info' > 'Customization Version') and it is 1273-0043_R2A
Using XperiaUpdateChecker.exe and Google I cannot find anything about the customization number.
Based on advice from some users I rootded the phone and changed the Customization Version and still did not get the update.
How do I upgrade to the latest Android 4.3 version?

Thank you. Is there no official way to get 4.3 without having to flash my phone (with the risk of loosing data).
No you wont loose data.. See my guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658952

Thank you. This was helpful. I am now using the latest firmware and Android 4.3.
Unfortunatly I made a backup using Sony PC Companion and it does no longer allow me to restore all my files. So I have lost everything except pictures and the things Google saves, like contacts.!
For anyone reading this and want to update. Please do not use Sony PCC as a backup tool! Find some other way.

I had exactly the same problem. I used this guide to retrieve my data from the PCC backup:

The procedure is quite tedious, because you have to basically extract one app at a time from the backup. But it works.

Hi, and welcome to the xperia z corner.
As far as i can see it theres a small problem with win8 and the drivers ( see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240614 ->tutorial part 2)
Additionaly, this thread might be helpfull too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283673
can't guarantee any of it though as i'm still on rooted fw .434 (doomlords exploit, as mentioned in the second thread) and wait for the ota update to show up in my area (unbranded, germany).
hope i could help, and have fun with your new XZ.
thank you for ur help...windows 8 was driving me nuts so i tired flashing with win7 laptop & it worked like a charm......now it seems i have a new question... i am on the 350 firmware & rooted & custom recovery installed can i now install the 434 update via ota or do i have to flash through flashtools

That's actually the exact same way i ended up with FW .434, by getting the ota update after rooting the previous one with doomlords method.
I DID install another app called Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper (just in case) that is supposed to ensure that the system stays rooted even after an ota update.
If you're using SuperSU there's also an option called "survival mode" which should do the same thing as the rootkeeper app.
i'm not sure if that rootkeeper stuff is really neccessary, but i guess it can't hurt
i just ran into another snag.... i just flashed pureXaudio & now my recovery doesnt start...i had cwm recovery for locked bootloader.... i tried reinstalling it but it says recovery already installed & quits
installed dual recovery & tried to do a restore from a backup i created before the purexaudio but after the restore was done i tried to format cache & it was stuck there for like 10min....did a reset by holding power & volume up & after that my phone is stuck at bootanimation.....it doesnt go into a bootloop its just stuck at the animation....i tried to go back into recovery & wipe dalvik cache which was successful & then i tried to format cache but the same thing happened & now i cant get into recovery at all & its still stuck at bootanimation.......i am currently downloading a global .350 firmware for c6602 to flash through flashtool.....its gonna take 3hrs.....in the meantime... if anyone has a solution i will be very grateful.....this is freaking me out....i hope i didnt brick it or something
So here is my issue:
I have flashed a UK based .244 rom on my device awaiting the official push from t-mobile.
My dev: 6606 (tmo var) running UK based 224 rom
Tonight i receive notification that an update is available on my device.
Attempting to install reboots device and fails to install.
Updates states ver 10.3.1.a.0.244 which my device is already running (just a diff. region 6603 based rom)
Notification persist. Anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Should i rollback (factory) and install or is there a fix to install US patch or trick device into thinking update was completed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ty ^.^
performing factory reset now, hopefully i get update notif. and everything goes smoothly.
only thing i changed in old rom (uk .244) was build.prop device info to 6606 from 6603, for acurate sysinfo screen.
well it looks the factory reset didnt rollback to stock FW.
Looks like ill have to attempt a rollback via recovery or flash stock FW via recovery.
@ work now so well c.
Use pcc or sus to update.

Hi, I would like to post a request of solution to a problem faced by a number of Xperia Z series devices users out there. For the latest 4.3 build (10.4.B.0.569) from SONY, the OTA update could not be installed despite being able to be downloaded successfully. The file size is 318MB for my ZL. Once completed the download the phone will reboot itself into its recovery and soon after a few seconds it reboots itself and give an undismissable notification of "could not install". As reconfirmed with other users, root does not seem to be the problem. No official comment was given and close to none from XDA. Could anyone please help with poor users affected by this issue?

I'm not sure, but I think it's the CWM or TWRP, perhaps it's the boot.img ... don't know.... To update to newest FW follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565850

Am using stock recovery...….so don't think it is related to the recovery...
u said u did it ota so umm have u tried via pc companion to update ure phone ?
if youre not rooted may i suggest using pc companion or flashing the ftf via sony ericson flasher (sony rom ) required to update the phone
Beside you can also use EMMA, but think this will reset your phone to factory defaults.
For my phone it installed an older build (0.244) and then I was able to get the latest FW by OTA.

Following a number of guides I decided to downgrade to 4.1.2. I backed everything up using PC Companion and flashed the genereic uk 4.1.2 firmware.
when i tried restoring my backup only the photos appeared to restore. I decided to try a factory reset to see if that helped - no joy. I used the sony update service tool and it installed 4.1.2. but still no joy with the restore.
If i type in and call someone that would have been in my contacts list, their name does appear on the call log, so its almost as though the contacts are on my phone, just not in my contacts list.
Also now that I've rolled back to 4.1.2, both my phone and PC Companion recognise this as the most recent update. Does this mean when the 4.3 update comes out, i will have to wait for someone to post the firmware and flash it via flashtool rather than update via pc companion?
Thanks!
The backup you made will only work on android 4.3, root android 4.1 and flash android 4.3 ftf for keeping root, then restore your backup and create a new one using titanium backup(make sure you change the destination folder to a folder in your sd because flashing will format your internal memory) then flash android 4.1, root it and restore the titanium backup
Ah makes sense.
Thanks for the reply. Have you seen anywhere for 4.3 generic uk?
I can only find generic global.
Hello there, iam finally on 4.4.4 and i want to root the phone now, and so far iam quite aware of the process, atleast i think that iam, but check it for
yourself:
1) Getting lastest Flashtool from here: http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php ( 0.9.18.2)
Btw. i dont get this : "Since Xperia Z, sony added a new set of files I called bootbundle. Those files can be bundled from 0.9.13 and can be flashed from 0.9.13 only."
What do i really need to flash kernel .233 andn reflashing the .283 afterwards? 0.9.13 or the latest one? dont really get that one, and wouldn't like to hardbrick my C6603 neather...
Do i need the seperate "Flashtool-Driver"-Package or is that included in normal Flashtool-Package?
2) Getting rather the the "Kernel only" or a Stock-FTF .233 and uncheck everything except the Kernel.
3) Getting "Easy-Root" and enabling USB-Debugging on the Z, running Easy-Root and connecting the Z to the PC when Easy-Root says so...
Waiting... Reboot and Checking root-access via root-checker.
4) Getting stock-ftf or Kernel-only for .283, reflashing it.
5)Installing SuperSu, and be happy(?)
Further Questions:
6) Do i need an internet-connection when running Easy-Root on the HOST (aka PC)?
7) Could i theoretically remove root-access again after i modified Android to my like? (Removing Bloatware and installing Adwall/Adaware/Xprivacy) or woudn't this work out? E.g. No root, no more root-apps?
Thank you for your time and help!

Hey thank you for the reply but i've read this thread before, but it doesnt really answer the few questions that stayed unanswered to me
Like:
1) Which version of Flashtool do i need? Does it have to be 0.9.13 or can i download and use the latest variant available (see the Quote regarding 0.9.13)
2) Do i need an internet-connection on my PC to run the "Easyroot-Exploit"?
3) After removing the bloatware and installing some stuff that needs root (Adwall,Adaway,Xprivacy) can i remove root again(SuperSu Unroot) without losing the functionality of this previously installed root-apps?
Thats basically all that is still open to me, other than that everything is pretty clear
Thank you!

1. Use the latest version, which is currently 0.9.18.2. I linked to the Flashtool thread in my guide for a reason.
2. I don't believe so. Just use the built in root tool in Flashtool instead if you like.
3. No. You cannot unroot if you want to continue using apps that need root.

Thank you, that clears up a lot
I thought once you've granted them (Root Apps) permission they keep them, even if you unroot right after.
I guess there are no Questions left :highfive:
